Israel says it has killed Iran’s intelligence minister in third assassination in two days

Israel’s Defense Forces said Wednesday that Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib had been killed in a “targeted strike” in Tehran, marking the third assassination of a high-ranking official in just two days.
“Khatib played a significant role during the recent protests throughout Iran, including the arrest & killing of protestors and led terrorist activities against Israelis & Americans around the world,” the IDF said in a post on social media.
“Similarly, he operated against Iranian citizens during the Mahsa Amini protests (2022–2023),” they added.
Iran has not yet commented on reports of Khatib’s death.
It comes after Israel said Tuesday that Iran’s top security official Ali Larijani and the commander of Iran’s Basij forces, Gholamreza Soleimani, had both been killed. Iran’s official judiciary news agency later confirmed the killing of Soleimani, the Associated Press reported.

IRGC launches ‘revenge strikes’ on Israel after assassination of Ali Larijani

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced early on 18 March a series of retaliatory missile strikes on Israel, launched shortly after Tehran confirmed the assassination of Supreme National Security Council chief Ali Larijani.
“Tel Aviv, the center of the evils of the savage Zionist entity, was subjected, in the sixty-first wave of operation ‘True Promise 4,’ to a barrage of missiles, including the multi-warhead ‘Khorramshahr 4,’ the multi-warhead ‘Qadr,’ ‘Emad,’ and ‘Kheibar Shekan,’ under the slogan ‘Ya Aba Abdallah al-Hussein,’ peace be upon him,” the IRGC said.
The operation was launched “in revenge for the blood of the martyr Dr Ali Larijani and his companions.”
The missiles, “in this rapid and intensive operation, and due to the collapse of the Zionist entity’s multi-layered and highly advanced air defense system, successfully struck more than 100 military and security targets in the heart of the occupied territories without any hindrance.” https://thecradle.co/articles-id/36555
Something like 50 high level Iranian leaders have been killed since 27 February.
There is a prophecy in Jeremiah related to Iran as prophetic Elam:
34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 “Thus says the Lord of hosts:
‘Behold, I will break the bow of Elam,
The foremost of their might.
36 Against Elam I will bring the four winds
From the four quarters of heaven,
And scatter them toward all those winds;
There shall be no nations where the outcasts of Elam will not go.
37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies
And before those who seek their life.
I will bring disaster upon them,
My fierce anger,’ says the Lord;
‘And I will send the sword after them
Until I have consumed them.
38 I will set My throne in Elam,
And will destroy from there the king and the princes,’ says the Lord.39 ‘But it shall come to pass in the latter days:
I will bring back the captives of Elam,’ says the Lord.” (Jeremiah 49:34-39)
While passages like Jeremiah 49:34-35 are consistent with Iran being neutralized in our age, some of the other verses there look to be for the distant future.
Some Protestants have wondered if the elimination of Iranian leaders is the fulfillment of the loss of “the king and princes” of Elam of Jeremiah 49:38 (Elam has prophetic ties to Iran). Notice also something published weeks before the elimination of so many Iranian leaders:
Jeremiah 49 Prophecy: Are We Watching Iran’s Judgment Unfold?

Joel Rosenberg is urging believers to step back and view the crisis through a biblical lens. … On a recent episode of The Rosenberg Report, he posed a sobering question: “Are we watching the prophecies of Jeremiah 49 come to pass?”
Rosenberg pointed directly to Jeremiah 49:34-39, a passage he described as “an absolutely fascinating” yet often overlooked prophecy concerning “Elam,” the ancient name for modern day Iran. He noted that both Jeremiah 49 and Ezekiel 38 and 39 speak of events unfolding “in the last days,” raising the possibility that current geopolitical shifts are prophetically significant.
“Behold, I am going to break the bow of Elam, the finest of their might,” Rosenberg read from the New American Standard Bible. He explained that in ancient warfare, the bow represented offensive military power. In modern terms, he said, it speaks to missile systems and strategic weapons capabilities. …
Jeremiah 49 also declares that Elam will be scattered “to the four winds.” Rosenberg connected that prophecy to the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the massive Iranian diaspora that followed. “We have seen an Iranian diaspora,” he said, noting that millions of Iranians have fled to the United States, Europe, South America and beyond over the past four decades. He believes this portion of the prophecy has already been fulfilled or is in the process of fulfillment. …
“If you face the fierce anger of God, you are facing judgment,” he said, adding that the judgment is directed at the regime’s leadership, not the Iranian people themselves.
Jeremiah 49:38 contains one of the most dramatic statements in the chapter: “I will destroy out of it king and princes.” Rosenberg did not hesitate in his interpretation.

Joel Rosenberg may well feel that his interpretation of Jeremiah 49:38 has been confirmed in the past three weeks.
Now, while I do NOT agree that the 1979 matters are the final fulfillment of the prophecy in Jeremiah, what has happened with the leaders in Iran, including the assassination of its Supreme Leader “king,” this did bring Jeremiah 49 to mind.
However, I believe that the final fulfillment of Jeremiah 49:34-39 must be for the distant future.

Yes, we must look at what the Bible actually says.
Yet, because there is often a duality in prophecy, with all the leadership assassinations, we certainly have seen something similar to the fulfillment of part of Jeremiah 49:38 with the destruction “of the king and the princes.”
However, since God has NOT set His throne in Elam, there still awaits a future fulfillment of parts of Jeremiah 49.
