Republicans propose an extension of debt ceiling, Obama expresses interest, but…

The expected result of the ‘shutdown’ is still an increase in debt:

October 10, 2013

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner, says his Republican caucus has agreed to a short term extension of the federal debt ceiling, to avert a possible default next week. The political impasse has kept large parts of the U.S. government shut down for 10 days…

“Democrats are prepared to make sure that the government pays its bills,” said Hoyer. “But good policy, good economics and building confidence for the American people would be extending it for a substantial period of time so the markets will have the confidence of where we are going to be next week, next month and next year.”

Republican congressional aides said the proposal offered by Boehner would extend the debt ceiling until November 22nd, with no conditions attached. http://www.voanews.com/content/reu-souce-says-house-republicans-weighing-debt-ceiling-hike-without-add-ons/1766922.html

WHITE HOUSE — President Barack Obama and Republican and Democratic congressional leaders are meeting in an attempt to resolve the U.S. government shutdown and debt limit stalemate.  Obama cautiously welcomed a Republican proposal for a temporary increase in the U.S. debt limit.

Before the White House talks began, House Speaker John Boehner and other Republican leaders announced their proposal to extend the debt limit for six weeks until November 22.

They assert this would open the way for “good faith negotiations” on broader budget issues…Press secretary Jay Carney said Obama is happy that “cooler heads” seem to be prevailing and that there seems to be a recognition that government default is not an option.

Carney said Obama continues to prefer a longer debt extension with no conditions attached, but would sign a temporary extension to remove the threat of default.  http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-encouraged-by-offer-of-debt-limit-deal/1767272.html

WASHINGTON — House Republican leaders are proposing a six-week increase in the nation’s $16.7 trillion debt ceiling as a way of avoiding a first-ever U.S. default on debts. The White House has indicated that it might be something President Obama could accept, depending on the details of the bill.

If there is enough support within the party, the House is expected to vote on the bill Friday. Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, proposed the plan to the full Republican conference Thursday morning. The plan would extend the debt ceiling to Nov. 22.

The decision to seek approval for a short-term increase is in part because Obama and congressional Democrats have declined to engage with Republicans in budget talks. The Treasury says the nation will hit its debt ceiling Oct. 17 and would begin defaulting on debts shortly thereafter.  http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/10/10/house-gop-debt-limit-six-weeks/2957931/

A Republican proposal to approve a short-term increase in the debt ceiling was thrown into doubt late Thursday, as Senate Democrats insisted the partial government shutdown be lifted before talks can proceed — and a White House meeting broke up with no deal announced.  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/10/boehner-pitches-short-term-debt-ceiling-hike-ahead-white-house-meeting/

I would like to briefly common that good economic policy is not trying to extend increasing the debt limit over long periods of time as Congressman Steny Hoyer was suggesting above.  Good economic policy is to try to encourage greater production of goods and services that will benefit others, while paying down debt, and encouraging citizens to practice biblical morality.

However, many in Washington, D.C. do not seem to be able to see this.  Notice also the following scripture:

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.  (Romans 1:28-32)

What the USA truly needs to national repentance (which I am not expecting at this point).  The physical reality is that there are carnal solutions that the USA could do now (such as several related to energy production, regulatory relief, and tariff policies) that could help extend the situation.  Yet, because too many of its leaders have rejected God and have the type of “reprobate mind” that allows them to approve sexual and other immorality that prevents them from properly seeing even those physically “convenient” options (cf. Romans 1:18-32, KJV). In my view, most political leaders (including those involved with finance and economics) truly do not understand production, economics, job-creation, nor the Bible. As I have mentioned in the past, since legalizing abortion, the USA has gone from creditor nation to the largest debtor nation of all time (watch also the video Abortion, the Bible, and US Debt).  Promoting abortion is also something that the Obama Administration has done.  But repentance is not something it seems to consider.
Increasing debt and otherwise inflating the amount of US currency will help destroy the USA dollar.

US debt, combined with programs such as the Federal Reserves’ quantitative easing, are sending signals to the rest of the world that the US dollar needs to be replaced as the world’s primary reserve currency.

The pride of the USA’s power is being broken. That pride has long been associated with its military and economic strength. Various sins and increasing debt is weakening the USA in many ways.

Without national repentance the USA is doomed. Of course, personal repentance is still possible.

Simply kicking the debt limit can down the road again is not what the USA truly needs.
