UK Leader Wants Jerusalem Divided, While USA Leaders Tell Israel Not to Strike Iran

The UK’s Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Alistair Burt, is calling for the division of Jerusalem:

UK Minister Calls For Divided Jerusalem

Burt also said that the building of settlements beyond the so-called ‘Green Line’ is counter-productive and insisted Jerusalem would have to be divided. Observers say Burt’s comments carry a characteristic British undercurrent of criticism for Israel while remaining pointedly silent on the abject refusal of PA officials to come to the table for two years running.

His position is consistent with one some in the EU and UN have also taken.

This position on Jerusalem also seems to be consistent with the following biblical prophecy:

2 For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem;
The city shall be taken,
The houses rifled,
And the women ravished.
Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. (Zechariah 14:2, NKJV)

If half the city is Jewish and the other half not, then there would be a reason for only one half the city to go into captivity.  The Bible is clear that Jerusalem will be an issue in the end time:

2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. 3 And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.  (Zechariah 12:2-4)

World events continue to align with Bible prophecy. An apparent peace deal will come (Daniel 9:27), though it may take a war to persuade some of the parties to make the deal, and it may involve the enforced dividing of Jerusalem.  Which is something that Israel currently will not accept.

As far as the nation of Israel, USA leaders are trying to discourage it from attacking Iran:

U.S. Warns Israel Against Iran Strike

Wall Street Journal – Jan 13, 2012

WASHINGTON—U.S. defense leaders are increasingly concerned that Israel is preparing to take military action against Iran, over U.S. objections, and have stepped up contingency planning to safeguard U.S. facilities in the region in case of a conflict.

President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and other top officials have delivered a string of private messages to Israeli leaders warning about the dire consequences of a strike. The U.S. wants Israel to give more time for the effects of sanctions and other measures intended to force Iran to abandon its perceived efforts to build nuclear weapons.

Currently, with the death of an Iranian nuclear scientist, the effects of the embargoes against Iran, and USA pressure, Israel may wait before having a direct major attack in Iran.  On the other hand, the problems in Iran and Syria may encourage those nations to attack Israel or at least more directly provoke Israel to attack.

Since Bible prophecy tells of a time when Damascus will cease being a city (Isaiah 17:1), the idea for war in the area is consistent with end-time prophecy.
