Furthermore, various ones in Europe (and elsewhere) have said that the tentative deal was accepted because Donald Trump is a bully who forced it upon the EU (e.g. see https://theweek.com/politics/tariffs-trump-winning-trade-war).
What triggered today’s post was something that the World Economic Forum (WEF) put out in an email today. Here is perhaps the most relevant part:
Tariffs, Tensions, and Trade-offs The EU–US steel and aluminum deal averts tariffs but exposes Europe’s industrial vulnerabilities amid the US’s new trade regime. While US tariff revenues have surged, the costs have hit domestic firms and consumers. Europe faces a strategic dilemma: align with US industrial policy or forge independent competitiveness in a world shaped by protectionism and geopolitical rivalry.
The WEF is basically saying that the European Union needs to decide if it wants to put up with the USA or become independent.
Well, I would suggest that it wants both. It will put up with the USA until it feels it no longer needs to, while it also works to forge trade deals with others around the world. The WEF has long wanted the EU to rise up and become the leading region to dominate a new world order–and that is what many leaders in the EU wish to do.
There are many unintended consequences of tariffs, sanctions, and bullying policies–the USA will one day regret them.
That said, many believe that the EU lost the trade war with the USA by agreeing to what it has so far (e.g. see European Union and United States trade deal will foster more than resentment).
While in many ways that is true, I would suggest that the EU made a strategic retreat, lost the immediate battle, but is forging ahead with its own plans to one day dominate world trade.
Related to the deal, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg made the following comments during an interview on MSNBC:
It is based on utterly false assumptions … it was just a further hit on stability … is not a good deal for Europe. … This is something I would connect with the term coercion …

To bring that down from the threatened 30 percent, the EU promised that its businesses will invest $600 billion in the U.S. by 2028. It also promised to spend $750 billion on U.S. energy over three years. …
“The trade deal is a humiliation for the EU, but it reflects the imbalance of power,” Clemens Fuest, president of German think tank the Ifo Institute, posted on X. “The Europeans need to wake up, focus more on economic strength, and reduce their military and technological dependence on the U.S. Then they can renegotiate.”
“Europe’s dependency on America’s security guarantee was a further argument against trade confrontation, especially for the bloc’s eastern and northern members,” wrote the Financial Times. “Fears that Trump would cut off weapons supplies to Ukraine, pull troops out of Europe, or even quit nato overshadowed the talks, diplomats said.”

And world events are forcing Europe in this direction. Revelation 17 and 18 describe a “beast power” led by “10 kings,” or 10 nations. Revelation 18 describes its total dominance of the global economy. Once it falls, the businessmen of the earth all weep.
Other passages describe the U.S. and Britain being shut out from this world trade system, brought low until they are conquered.

Yes, the deal itself looks like a loss to Europe. It appears to give the USA most of the advantages.
Do not expect those in Europe to simply take it and take no other actions.
Europe seemed to feel it had no other choice than to accept it–for now.
Yet, Europe will take other actions. It will not just resent it.
Things will not turn out as Donald Trump hopes (cf. Daniel 11:39).
Bible prophecies show that Europe will emerge from its crises to become the dominant end time trading power, the end time Babylon, but that it will not last.
The Bible shows that a major reorganization is prophesied to happen and push Europe to a strongman leader called the Beast:
12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)
Economic issues will be one of the factors that will get Europe to decide to reorganize and support a dictator that the Bible calls the Beast.
There is an expression that “the enemy of your enemy is your friend.” The USA is turning friends into enemies, and that is consistent with biblical prophecies (e.g. Lamentations 1:1-2). Expect the European Union to trade more with other nations.
