Watched the Ukrainian President’s speech last evening.

Here are reports related to it–the second one is by Tucker Carlson:

Zelensky Appeals For Tanks & Warplanes, Invokes FDR’s “Absolute Victory”, Before Enthusiastic Congress

December 21, 2022

Summary: Zelensky spoke for a little over 30 minutes and in English, at times invoking key US historical moments from the Battle of Saratoga to the Battle of the Bulge (and comparing the courage of Ukrainian soldiers), after he was greeted as a ‘hero’ in a minutes-long standing ovation. He asserted that Ukraine is winning “against all odds”. He was throughout frequently interrupted by standing ovations from a partially filled Congress, which was missing a lot of Republicans, in part given a number of lawmakers had already traveled home for the holidays ahead of the unexpected in-person visit, and facing incoming severe weather.

Zelensky peppered the speech with positive and optimistic statements like “Ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender,” and “but our defense forces stand” – especially offering the latest example of Bakhmut, in the Donbas. As expected, a major theme was the need for continued US support, for which he thanked the Biden administration, Congress, and the American people.

“The occupiers have an advantage in artillery and much more heavy equipment like tanks and airplanes,” he began a section of the address in which he appealed for continued aid. “Your support is crucial… to get to the turning point on the battlefield.” …

On the potential for a negotiated peace, he called attention of his prior “10-point plan” which he said should be implemented (and which Russia previously firmly rejected), and which he said Biden approved of during the Wednesday meeting at the White House. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/biden-announce-patriot-missiles-ukraine-zelensky-arrives-dc

American taxpayers declare Joe Biden will continue to give Zelenskyy whatever he demands for, quote, “as long as it takes.” Tellingly, Biden never specified what “it” is. As long as it takes to do what? Push the Russian army back to pre-invasion borders? Sounds reasonable.

That’s what most Americans likely assume, those who are still paying attention. But that is not what Zelenskyy means, and it is not what he is asking for. Zelenskyy is demanding regime change in Russia, just like in Iraq and Libya, and a long list of other failed states. Except this time, in the heart of the Eurasian landmass, next door to the entire civilized world. That’s what Zelenskyy has called for repeatedly, and every dollar we send to him goes toward that end. At this point, he’s getting a lot closer to achieving it. …

So what happens if he “wins?” What does the ensuing chaos look like? Thought about that? Who’s going to secure the world’s largest nuclear arsenal once we help Zelenskyy topple the Russian government? Who replaces Putin? Strangely, those topics did not come up today because that wasn’t the point.  …

This was bipartisan masochism. …

No rational person assessing the issues ever would have predicted this moment. If you were a Republican officeholder and Zelenskyy came to Washington, maybe you would for a moment, ask him about his current and ongoing war against Christianity in Ukraine. Especially if you were, say, Mitch McConnell or John Cornyn and a lot of your own voters go to church on Sunday. They might care about that issue. But McConnell and Cornyn didn’t mention it. They didn’t say a word. You will not hear a word on television tonight about the fact that Zelenskyy has banned an entire ancient Christian denomination in Ukraine and then seized churches and then thrown priests into jail. According to Mitch McConnell, who apparently hasn’t left his office since the mid-eighties, anti-Christian despotism is what most Republicans want above all. They don’t get enough. They’re just begging for it.  12/21/22  https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tucker-carlson-zelenskyys-visit-represented-bipartisan-masochism

The governments of Ukraine and the USA want fighting to continue. Russia wants peace on its terms, so the fighting will continue.

Thus, there will be more death and more destruction.

The situation in Ukraine is already very difficult and escalations in warfare will further affect the people there, as well as in Russia.

Notice the following:

3 When He opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come and see.” 4 Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword. (Revelation 6:3-4)

Somewhat paralleling the ride of the second horseman of Revelation 6:3-4, Jesus warned about wars and disturbances:

6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. (Matthew 24:6-7a)

“Nation … against nation” is literally “ethnos … against ethnos” in the original Greek. Notice how the Orthodox Jewish Bible translates the first half of Matthew 24:7:

For there will be an intifada of ethnic group against ethnic group,

Consider that the opening of the second seal (Revelation 6:3-4) is to result in less peace on the Earth.

While this is commonly called the red horse (or horseman) of war, that is not quite what is stated. Notice that he “takes peace from the earth AND that people should kill one another.” Could it be that events in 2020, such as COVID-19, and then Russia’s ‘special military operation’ into Ukraine are consistent with taking “peace from the earth”?

Around the world people are AFRAID. The feeling of normalcy is gone for many, around the globe. Consider that the travel restrictions are basically because of fear (and often politics). The media and government officials are saying everything will not go back to how it was and that we need to accept what they have called “the new normal.” Speculatively, could this be related to the opening of the second seal?

Not since World War II have we seen the entire planet so much.

The world needs Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to return. Here is something that the old Worldwide Church of God published:

Because Christmas is supposed to celebrate Christ’s birth, who hasn’t heard these two passages quoted widely? —

“For unto us a child is born… and his name shall be called… Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

And “… on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14).

Men identify Christmas with their longing for peace. Even normally hardheaded journalists become quite sentimental at this time of year.

For example:

“Someday the spirit of Christmas will mean more in national and international affairs than it does today.
“Someday there will be peace on earth.
“Someday there will be good will toward men.”

Those words were written 25 years ago in U.S. News and World Report by the late editor David Lawrence. But as is obvious, that “someday” is not today. We have not yet reached that biblically prophesied millennium of world peace.

Consider a popular folk song that says that man can create a peaceful world by himself:

“Last night I had the strangest dream I ever dreamed before; I dreamed the world had all agreed to put an end to war.”

Peace Without God?

Man believes he can create a peaceful world. The idea, most often put forth by the religious leaders of this world (who of all people should know better!), is that if only the nations can agree to put down their weapons and be nice to each other, war can be ended. Of course, such fluffy idealism has never worked in the last near 6,000 years of human history. But that doesn’t seem to make any difference to them.

In 1979, for example, at the World Conference on Religion and Peace, in Princeton, New Jersey, there met 337 representatives of the world’s religions Christian, Buddhist, Confucianist, Hindu, Jewish, Jainist, Moslem, Sikh, Shintoist and Zoroastrian. Their declaration showed their high expectation for what man can accomplish by himself in this world:

That “the power of active love, uniting men and women in the search for righteousness, will liberate the world from all injustice, hatred and wrong.”

That “modern civilization may someday be changed so that neighborly good will and helpful partnership may be fostered.”

That “all religions will increasingly cooperate in creating a responsible world community.”

Funny that religious leaders should leave God out as a necessary part of any attainment of a peaceful world! (But then, they cannot even agree on who or what God is!) …

The plain truth is that what man calls “peace” is not good enough. The one who wields superior force must also have right character with which to wield that power for the benefit of the governed. And that can only mean a government of God, not man.

Return of the King

Christ’s message was nothing so wimpy (to use a word currently in vogue) as going around to people preaching sweet nothings about peace. Christ knew — and knows — human nature. He announced that as long as man is subject to Satan’s attitude, peace can come only when one party overpowers another.

And that is the way peace will be restored to this earth. One who already has the right character needed to wield superior force will exercise that force to bring peace. Christ Himself leading an army of angels; from heaven, will literally have to militarily subdue the nations of earth:

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called the Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and Clean” (Revelation 19:11-14).

This is not the weak Christ of the world’s conception who has no practical, hardheaded way to peace. This is the picture of a military commander who knows He must put down resistance by force if there is ever to be peace — a conquering, returning King.

This is why the true Gospel — the good news of God’s soon-coming government — reflects the kind of hard-headed realism that this world’s religious leaders do not reflect in their own statements on peace.

And it is also why the Gospel is good news. The public — unlike many religious leaders — knows that empty platitudes of “peace, peace” will not bring peace. Just a few years ago, for example, 66 percent of the public told a Harris poll that it did not foresee “lasting peace in my lifetime,” and a majority said wars could not be avoided.

But when the conquering King returns, wars will be avoided. They will be avoided because Christ will have all power, and so none will be left over to fight with: “And he [Christ] shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (Isaiah 2:4).

Yes, as David Lawrence wrote more than 25 years ago, “Someday there will be peace on earth.” It is prophesied in your Bible. (Calkins J. When You Say PRINCE OF PEACE Do You Really Know What You’re Talking About? Plain Truth, December 1980)

The Bible warns:

8 The way of peace they have not known,
And there is no justice in their ways;
They have made themselves crooked paths;
Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:8)

We need to pray for the return of the Prince of Peace and the establishment of the millennial Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:10).

But there will be more war (cf. Revelation 6:3-4) and troubles (Mark 13:8) until then.

The positions of many world leaders ensure that there will be wars and troubles.
