There is some good news to report:

Nigeria Chibok girls: At least 80 freed by Boko Haram

May 6, 2017

Islamist militants of the Boko Haram group have released about 80 schoolgirls from a group of 276 they abducted in north-eastern Nigeria three years ago, officials say.

The release reportedly came after talks with the government, though few details are confirmed.

The abduction of the so-called “Chibok girls” triggered a global outcry and sparked a huge social media campaign.

Before the latest release, about 195 of the girls were still missing.

Agence France-Presse quoted a senior minister as confirming the release.

The Sahara Reporters website quoted a source as saying the freed girls were now in the town of Banki in Borno state, awaiting an airlift.  http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-39833309

Some few girls have successfully escaped over the years and the government of Chad helped free some a while back.

Boko Haram calls itself the Congregation of the People of Tradition for Proselytism and Jihad. It is a deviant Islamic faction. It, in certain ways, is similar to the group calling itself the Islamic State in Iraq. It basically, however, has less arms and less money. The goal of terror and forced conversion to Islam seems to be shared by both groups.

I was horrified about this kidnapping and threat to sell the schoolgirls since I learned of it back in the Spring of 2014. The girls and their families have been in my prayers.

The Bible condemns kidnapping:

16 “He who kidnaps a man and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death. (Exodus 21:16)

In addition to being kidnapped, the schoolgirls also are at risk of being sold into prostitution (cf. Leviticus 19:29). This is wrong and the so-called Islamic leaders of Boko Haram should realize this.

Kidnapping is wrong. Prostitution is wrong.

Hopefully, more of those kidnapped by Boko Haram will be freed soon.
