Governments have been patiently watching blockchain technology develop and grow outside their control for the past eight years.
Libertarian supporters of blockchain celebrate this lack of government control. Yet, their celebration is premature, and their belief in the sustainability of powerful systems outside government control is naïve.
Governments don’t like competition especially when it comes to money. Governments know they cannot stop blockchain, in fact they don’t want to. What they want is to control it using powers of regulation, taxation, and investigation and ultimately more coercive powers including arrest and imprisonment of individuals who refuse to obey government mandates with regard to blockchain.
Blockchain does not exist in the ether (despite the name of one cryptocurrency) and it does not reside on Mars. Jim Rickards’ comment about “Big Brother” controlling buying and selling is consistent with biblical prophecies. Before going further, let me mention that I tried to explain the points that are in his last paragraph above to someone this week as I asserted that governments can control cryptocurrencies. And I asserted that on this page over four years ago:
There is no way governments will intentionally allow a system that gets around all of their financial espionage. China is starting to publicly state that, and the government of USA has also began to try to figure out how to handle Bitcoin (Congress has held one or more hearings).
FWIW, I have never had or traded in Bitcoins or other alternatives like that.
Now, getting back to his comments, a couple of days ago, Jim Rickards wrote:
A group of major companies, all regulated by government, have announced a joint effort to develop an open-source blockchain as a uniform standard for all blockchain applications. The group includes JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, State Street, SWIFT, Cisco, Accenture, the London Stock Exchange and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial. That’s not exactly five guys in hoodies working in a garage. That’s a sign of the corporate-state consortium taking over. …
Perhaps most portentously, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has weighed in. In a special report dated June 2017, the IMF had this to say about blockchain:
“Distributed ledger technology (DLT), in particular, could spur change in the financial sector. …. DLT can be categorized as “permissionless” or “permissioned” depending on who can participate in the consensus-driven validation process. Permissionless DLTs allow anyone to read, transact on, and participate in the validation process. These open schemes (that underlie Bitcoin, for instance) could be very disruptive if successfully implemented. By contrast, in permissioned DLTs, the validation process is controlled by a pre-selected group of participants (“consortium”) or managed by one organization (“fully-private”), and thus serve more as a common communications platform.” (emphasis added).
IMF releases require expert translation because they are never written in plain English, and the real meaning is always hidden between the lines. But, the thrust of this report language is clear. The IMF favors “permissioned” systems over “open schemes.” The IMF also favors control by a “pre-selected group of participants” or “one organization,” rather than allowing “anyone” to participate.
This paper should be viewed as the first step in the IMF’s plan to migrate its existing form of world money, the special drawing right or SDR, onto a DLT platform controlled by the IMF. In time, all other forms of money would be banned. …

“Big Brother” will work for more and more financial controls.
Related to financial controls, there are some who have believed that Bitcoin will become fully regulated/taken over to the point that it will be associated with the ‘mark of the beast.’ Here is one such comment from over four years ago:
If I’m allowed to get Biblical…”Rich man or poor man, free or bond, will not be allowed to buy or sell unless he accepts the mark of the beast.”
Bitcoin is a very smooth end run to achieve that objective.

The “mark of the beast” scripture is from the Book of Revelation which makes the following statements concerning the financial controls of the coming Beast power:
16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:16-18)
The Bible is clear that the time is coming when the Beast power will have implemented some type of strong financial control. (Watch also Sweden going to ‘666’ cashlessness?)
As far as what Bitcoin is, here are comments from what Bitcoin’s website said about it in the past:

Bitcoin uses peer-to-peer technology to operate with no central authority or banks; managing transactions and the issuing of bitcoins is carried out collectively by the network. Bitcoin is open-source; its design is public, nobody owns or controls Bitcoin and everyone can take part. Through many of its unique properties, Bitcoin allows exciting uses that could not be covered by any previous payment system.

Bitcoin is different than any currency you’ve used before, so it’s very important to understand some key points.
Bitcoin is backed by nothing. And although there is a type of limit on it, that is no assurance it will be worth anything. Especially since other crytocurrencies and alternative forms of electronic payment are also available.
Of course, the USA dollar is backed by nothing. And unlike Bitcoin, there has not been a real limit to how much of that has been made (yesterday, an agreement to raise the so-called debt limit for the US government happened again and today the US Senate voted to “suspend” the debt ceiling until December 8, 2017).
The time is coming when the USA dollar will be worthless. Bitcoin will be worthless at some point. And yes, the Bible tells that for a time gold will be worthless, but that does not happen to gold until years after the demise of the US dollar. But placing too much confidence in gold, currencies, or alternatives like Bitcoin will not truly save anyone (cf. 1 Peter 1:7). Yet, true repentance and turning to the Jesus of the Bible can.
Although the USA is not likely to repent to prevent this nationally, nor can Bitcoin prevent it, personally you can repent as well as physically take steps before the dollar-based economic system collapses.

America’s Day of Reckoning 2017 Dollar Collapse? Economist James Dale Davidson says that a financial bloodbath will hit the USA and there is nothing that Washington can do to stop it. He claims that at least 57 nations have gotten together to dethrone the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency. He claims this can happen any day or in a few months. He mentions China, Russia, the AIIB, and gold. He claims his track record in predicting massive shifts in the past should assure people that he is right about this. He claims that there will be massive unemployment, near elimination of social security benefits, and more. In a post he sent me a link to July 13, 2016, James Dale Davidson wrote, “During the next six months, you will see the stock market plummet by at least 50%, real estate will drop 40%, savings accounts will lose 30%, and unemployment will triple. It’s already starting to unfold.” Is James Dale Davidson possibly right on any of this? Sweden going to ‘666’ cashlessness? Sweden continues to reduce the amount of currency notes and coins in circulation as more and more Swedes turn to digital forms of payments.
