Interim Peace Deal for the Middle East

Notice a report today about an interim peace deal for the Middle East:

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has drawn up an interim peace deal for a Palestinian state on up to 50 percent of West Bank land, far below Palestinian demands, the Haaretz daily said on Sunday.

Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat told Reuters the idea of an interim deal is “entirely rejected”…

Haaretz quoted a senior source in the Foreign Ministry as describing Lieberman’s proposal as a “pre-emptive strike” before any wider international recognition of a Palestinian state throughout the West Bank, captured by Israel in a 1967 war.

With U.S.-brokered peace talks at a standstill, Israel has been alarmed in the past two months by a string of recognitions of a Palestinian state by Latin American states, including Brazil and Argentina…

Lieberman said in December there was no way Israel’s right-leaning coalition would be prepared to meet Palestinian demands and that he was finalising a “Plan B”, a long-term interim accord.

Netanyahu himself said an interim deal could result if no agreement could be reached on major issues at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  (Israel’s Lieberman charts interim peace deal- report.  Reuters, January 23, 2011.  http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCATRE70M0EM20110123)

The above proposal is consistent with biblical prophecy.  And even though the above “interim proposal” is not likely to be accepted, the reality is that since neither the Palestinians nor the Israelis can actually settle their differences with a permanent peace treaty (as there are people on both sides who hold positions that stop this from being a possibility now), some type of temporary/interim deal will ultimately be made.

Notice that Daniel records some type of temporary deal will be made (and that it will be broken):

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate (Daniel 9:27).

31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation (Daniel 11:31).

The deal in Daniel 9:27 is an interim deal as it is confirmed for only one prophetic week (seven years).  And even that deal will not bring seven years of peace as armies will surround Jerusalem (Luke 21:20) and the King of the North will break the deal (probably partially because others will partially violate it during its existence) after it is half over per Daniel 9:27 and Daniel 11:31.

For more about why this “one week” covenant in Daniel 9:27 is a “peace deal” and ramifications of it, please see the article Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2011, 2012, or 2013?

I would also like to add that it is interesting that Israel is partially reacting because the Latin American states are rising up against it.  The times of the Gentiles is at hand and Gentile nations, and no longer the Anglo-descended nations, are rising up and having more influence on world affairs.  Even this is consistent with biblical prophecy.  Jesus stated:

24 And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Luke 21:24)

And while the Latin American nations are not physically trampling Jerusalem, their actions are helping to cause events to lead to this occurrence.

World events continue to align with Bible prophecy.
