Israel’s new government gets to work after Netanyahu ouster

June 14, 2021

JERUSALEM (AP) — For the first time in 12 years, Israelis on Monday woke up to a new government and a new prime minister, after Naftali Bennett secured the backing of parliament and ousted longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu.  …

Under a coalition agreement, Bennett will hold office of the premier for the first two years of the term, and then Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, the architect of the coalition, will become prime minister. …

Topaz Luk, a Netanyahu aide, told Army Radio that the former prime minister — now opposition leader — is “full of motivation to topple this dangerous government as soon as possible.”

World leaders have congratulated Bennett on becoming the 13th person to hold the office of Israeli prime minister. …

The Knesset vote capped a chaotic parliamentary session and ended a two-year period of political paralysis in which the country held four deadlocked elections. https://apnews.com/article/government-and-politics-middle-east-israel-26478abe63c32f0d22a2c27029a8ce68

The vote in the Knesset was 60 to 59. This coalition is fragile.

I expect that the new Israel coalition will collapse in a time of crisis. It may collapse, even without a military crisis.

Some believe that Benjamin Netanyahu will be back. NewsMax reported the following:

Netanyahu ‘May Be Back’ in Charge of Israel

June 14, 2021

Israel’s centrist leader Yair Lapid is to replace the country’s newly elected Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in two years, but Fred Fleitz, the president and CEO of the Center for Security Policy, told Newsmax Monday that he doesn’t think the new coalition government will last that long and former leader Benjamin Netanyahu “may be back.”

“I don’t see how this government it’s going to stand up to the growing security threats it’s going to be facing,” Fleitz said on Newsmax TV’s “Wake Up America.” “I don’t know how it’s going to stand up to dealing with the United States and its efforts to get back in the Iran deal, so I think before two years are up, we’ll see. We’ll see more elections.”

Bennett and Lapid are leading an eight-party alliance with a wide range of religious and political persuasions, and Fleitz said  that “all they agree on is that they hate Netanyahu.”

Bennett is an Israeli nationalist who opposes a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine and settlements on the West Bank, but many of his coalition, including from the “radical Islamist party,” do not agree with him, said Fleitz, and he doesn’t see how their government can function. https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/fleitz-israel-bennett-netanyahu/2021/06/14/id/1024978/

Yes, this new coalition is fragile. We may well see a ‘no confidence’ vote if there is another set of rockets going back and forth between Hamas and Israel as the Arab faction may object to how the new Prime Minister would handle such a situation.

Beyond that, having such an odd coalition proves a view that I have long held. Notice something from 2008:

Because Israel has a parliamentary system of governance and is normally governed by a coalition of parties, I believe that at some point in time a coalition party that insists on animal sacrifices will become part of the top governance and the sacrifices will then begin–though they may last only a very short period of time–but long enough for the King of the North to stop them per Daniel 11:31. (Thiel B. Animal Sacrifice Planned for April 6? COGwriter, April 3, 2008).

Naftali Bennett is reportedly the first Orthodox Jew to become Prime Minister of Israel. If he is truly Orthodox, and not just posing for political reasons, he may be inclined to be more open to the idea of regular animal sacrifices.

This is something that his Arab supporters would not seem to be willing to accept, yet such will happen some day in Israel consistent with prophecies in Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11.

The reality is that certain Jews (including one or more other current members of Israel’s Knesset) want a ‘third temple’ as well as the right to perform daily animal sacrifices.

At some point in time, a new coalition will form. Eventually, the time will come when Israel will allow daily sacrifices  That will be an important prophetic sign.

The fact of a fragile coalition in Israel of ‘right’ and ‘left’ Israeli politicians and Arab ones shows that other coalitions that many would not expect can happen as well.

Does the ‘Cenacle’ deal have prophetic ramifications? After a 20 year negotiation, the Church of Rome has negotiated the right to have Catholic mass in the building known as the Cenacle. It is in the area where the Church of God on Jerusalem’s Western Hill once stood. This is believed to be the location of the earliest Christian church building.
