Afghanistan has been mainly taken over by the Taliban:

Afghan president flees the country as Taliban move on Kabul

August 15, 2021

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan’s embattled president left the country Sunday, joining his fellow citizens and foreigners in a stampede fleeing the advancing Taliban and signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan.

The Taliban, which for hours had been in the outskirts of Kabul, announced soon after they would move further into a city gripped by panic throughout the day as helicopters raced overhead to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy. Smoke rose near the compound as staff destroyed important documents. Several other Western missions also prepared to pull their people out.

Civilians fearing that the Taliban could reimpose the kind of brutal rule that all but eliminated women’s rights rushed to leave the country as well, lining up at cash machines to withdraw their life savings. The desperately poor — who had left homes in the countryside for the hoped-for safety in the capital — remained in their thousands in parks and open spaces throughout the city.

President Ashraf Ghani flew out of the country, two officials told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to brief journalists. Abdullah Abdullah, the head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council, later confirmed in an online video that Ghani had left.

“The former president of Afghanistan left Afghanistan, leaving the country in this difficult situation,” Abdullah said. “God should hold him accountable.”

In a stunning rout, the Taliban seized nearly all of Afghanistan in just over a week, despite the billions of dollars spent by the U.S. and NATO over nearly two decades to build up Afghan security forces. Just days earlier, an American military assessment estimated it would be a month before the capital would come under insurgent pressure. https://apnews.com/article/afghanistan-taliban-kabul-bagram-e1ed33fe0c665ee67ba132c51b8e32a5

KABUL – The Taliban have reached Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, and say they are awaiting a peaceful transfer of power.

Taliban sources told VOA that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s resignation was accepted during talks in Kabul. They said leaders and elders from Afghanistan will travel to Doha where the transfer of power to the Taliban will take place. There was no immediate comment from Ghani’s office.

Earlier Sunday, the Taliban took over Jalalabad, capital of Nangarhar province and the last major city outside the capital to have been under government control.

Various reports said security forces were also retreating from other districts of Nangarhar province, which borders Pakistan and holds one of the key border crossings into Pakistan via Torkhem.

Also Sunday, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said their fighters took control of Bagram Air Base and the prison there and freed its inmates. There were high-profile Taliban prisoners at Bagram, which served as the main base for the U.S.-led foreign military mission in Afghanistan.

The speed of the Taliban offensive has shocked both locals and the international community. While violence in the country has been high since 2020, after the Taliban signed a deal with the United States, the latest campaign against Afghan cities has been unexpectedly fast.

Many in Afghanistan see the proverbial ‘handwriting on the wall’ (cf. Daniel 5). Whether or not they actually support the Taliban, they see it makes little sense to actively fight them.

The many assurances by US military officials that the Afghan army could defeat the Taliban have proved hollow.

As long-term readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, this was not unexpected.

Notice something posted here on January 1, 2009:

the following truly is from Nostradamus, and followed with the Comment from a Catholic writer named Yves Dupont:

Quatrain 50:

Under the sign of Libra, America shall reign, Shall hold power in the sky and on land, Shall never perish under Asian forces, Until seven Pontificates have passed. (Yves Dupont, p.94)

Comment: As a great world power, the U.S.A. began its “reign” during the first World War–but it was not the greatest world power; in 1918 … In 1945, however, the U.S.A. was, by and large, the greatest world power. I think it is from the reign of Pius XII that the seven Pontificates must be counted, and this brings us to the last Pope according to St. Malachy’s list–when the world will end. (comment is from the Catholic writer Yves Dupont personally in 1973, Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement, p.94)

It appears that these Catholic writings suggest that the end of the USA will thus be in the 21st century as that is when the last pope would need to appear. As far as Asian forces go, this could be interpreted to include terrorists from places like Afghanistan and others parts of Asia (Thiel B. Nostradamus’ Predictions of Obama: A Hoax? COGwriter, January 1, 2009)

Now with the Taliban in Kabul, in a real sense America has been defeated by “Asian forces.” And irrespective of Nostradamus’ writings, the end of the USA is near (watch Is the USA prophesied to be destroyed by 2028?).

Yet, back in 2012, that Barack Obama essentially claimed victory for the USA in Afghanistan (cf. https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2012/05/01/obama-afghanistan-speech/).

Back on 1/27/18, I posted:

Islamists figured out some time ago that they can often outlast the USA if they wait long enough. Although President Obama said that the Taliban was defeated, it does not act like it accepted that ‘defeat.’ (Thiel B. Taliban terrorist kills close to 100 in Afghanistan. COGwriter, January 27, 2018)

I have warned for some time that the situation in Afghanistan was not going as well as the USA has publicly declared or hoped.

Back on March 9, 2013 (see Taliban suicide bombing in Afghanistan: Considered to be a warning?), I wrote:

Unless the USA keeps enough troops in Afghanistan (which it is not intending to do), the situation there will change to something that the USA has claimed that it does not want. The Taliban, other Islamic groups, and tribal leaders will pretty much insure that.

Notice another news item from the past:

October 26, 2014

Officials with the U.S.-led coalition say the Afghan forces held their own this summer fighting season and did not lose any significant ground.

“I’m cautiously optimistic they will be able to sustain themselves,” said Brig. Gen Daniel Yoo, the commander of Regional Command (Southwest), said of the Afghan forces.

He said the success of the Afghan security army and police depended on leadership, continued development of logistics and confidence.

“They’ve got to want it more than we do,” he said of Afghan forces that have been losing hundreds of soldiers and policemen each month in battles, assassinations and suicide attacks by insurgents. http://www.voanews.com/content/afghanistan-troop-withdrawal-us-marines-british-combat-forces/2496918.html

In response to the above on October 26, 2014 (see USA and UK cease combat operations in Afghanistan: What’s next?), I wrote:

The ceasing of combat operations by the UK and USA is not a victory in Afghanistan. It is a pause so that troops can be pulled out. It will not bring real peace to the region. At least some in Afghanistan will likely support the rise of a leader that the Bible refers to as the final King of the South.

On April 22, 2015, I wrote (see Taliban to begin new offensive in Afghanistan):

The USA did not defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan–it basically ‘kicked the can further down the road.’ After seeing what happened to Iraq after the USA ceased ‘combat operations’ this should make it clear that Afghanistan is not secure. …

Since the Bible prophesies terrorism and we may well see more coming in and/or from Afghanistan.

On January 10, 2016, I posted (see VOA: ‘A Try for Peace in Afghanistan as 4 Nations Meet’):

The Taliban wants to control Afghanistan. They do not just want peace in some section. The “political solution” that Afghanistan needs is the Kingdom of God. …

There will be no lasting peace in Afghanistan. As I have repeatedly written, Afghanistan needs the Kingdom of God.

Expect to see some shifts in Afghanistan as it likely will give some support to the final caliphate known as the King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40-43).

On June 3, 2017, I posted (see Afghanistan: Clashes, terror, quagmire, and death):

The situation in Afghanistan is not encouraging.

There will be no lasting peace in Afghanistan–though a temporal peace is likely to affect it and elsewhere (cf. Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Afghanistan has been called the USA’s longest running war. And the USA has not been able to bring peace. Afghanistan is a mountainous region that is broken up into various tribal areas. Afghanistan was a financial drain on the old Soviet Union and some believe that this is part of the reason the Soviet Union finally broke up.

Afghanistan is not secure. Afghanistan needs the Kingdom of God.

On August 10, 2021, I posted the following:

The USA did not win in Afghanistan. The USA will lose. (Thiel B. VOA: US Admits Afghanistan ‘Not Going in the Right Direction’.COGwriter, August 10, 2021)

Yes, the USA did lose.

And even more significant losses are expected against the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39).
