The aftermath of Hurricane then tropical storm, Hilary has been impacting Mexico, Nevada. and Southern California:

Flooding, mudslides, water rescues − and Hilary’s destruction not done yet …

August 21, 2023

The remnants of Hurricane Hilary lashed the U.S. Southwest from the mountains and desert to the Pacific Ocean beaches Monday, the storm downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone after triggering mudslides, flooding and water rescues across Southern California.

Rain and debris washed out roadways and left vehicles stranded in standing water. In Rancho Mirage, 120 miles east of Los Angeles, crews pumped floodwaters out of the Eisenhower Medical Center. In San Diego, rescue teams pulled 13 people from knee-deep water in a homeless encampment along the rising San Diego River.

The storm remained capable of “life-threatening and locally catastrophic flooding” for parts of the U.S. Southwest, the National Weather Service warned.

As the storm rolls north, parts of Oregon and Idaho could get hit with up to 5 inches of rain through Tuesdaymorning, resulting in some “significant” flash flooding, the weather service said. But Southern California was not free of Hilary’s wrath.

“Across interior Southern California, road and rail line closures due to major flooding, washouts and mudslides are likely, putting a significant strain on infrastructure,” said Dan DePodwin, AccuWeather director of forecasting operations. …

Palm Springs could get a year’s worth of rain in 2 days

In the desert 100 miles east of Los Angeles, Palm Springs had been deluged by more than 3 inches of rain by Monday morning. Almost an inch of rain fell in one hour Sunday afternoon in a city that typically picks up less than half an inch all summer, AccuWeather said. Palm Springs averages less than 6 inches of rain a year and could get that in 48 hours, AccuWeather said. https://www.aol.com/flooding-mudslides-water-rescues-hilarys-123405789.html

A deadly Category 4 hurricane

Updated August 21, 2023

Tropical Rainstorm Hilary formed on Aug. 16 off the coast of Mexico and underwent rapid intensification to become a Category 4 hurricane over open waters before making landfall late in the morning on Aug. 20, 2023. The storm moved ashore in Mexico’s northern Baja California Peninsula as a tropical storm. One person near Santa Rosalia, Mexico, was killed by floodwaters, the government reported Sunday. …

Hurricane Hilary’s track into Southern California was unusual. Primarily due to colder waters, which are similar to Atlantic Canada in August, tropical storms don’t typically survive intact when they approach the state. … Tens of thousands of power customers in California were without power from the storm, …

To add insult to injury, at 3 p.m. PDT on Aug. 20, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake was reported in Ojai, California, northwest of Los Angeles, where shaking was felt. No damage was reported. The earthquake was the strongest at that location since 1941. https://www.accuweather.com/en/hurricane/deadly-hilary-hits-mexico-floods-parts-of-southern-california/1571898

Tropical Storm Hilary brought flooding rains to southern California and Nevada as forecasters warned of life-threatening and catastrophic conditions from the rare storm as it moved inland.

The U.S. National Weather Service urged people to stay off roads in the Los Angeles area due to dangerous flooding.

Many of the areas in the path of the storm, which was expected to weaken to a tropical depression as its center moved into Nevada later Monday, are not used to seeing the type of rainfall associated with a tropical storm.

Forecasters said some desert areas could end up with 12 to 25 centimeters of rain.

“In some places in the desert, that’s a year’s worth,” Alex Tardy, a senior meteorologist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in San Diego, told a news briefing. “The normal rainfall in Southern California and San Diego is nothing in August. So, a very unusual event is unfolding here.” …

Around here in San Luis Obispo County, it was abnormally warm in the beach areas, but there was no rain. Although my wife and I did not feel the earthquake, some near us did.

Years ago, the Continuing Church of God put out the following video on our YouTube channel called Bible New Prophecy.

Does God Use Weather?

Are weather calamities totally random? Does God control the weather? What does the Bible say? Are there biblical prophecies for weather blessings and weather curses? Are those affected by hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, droughts, and floods necessarily worse sinners than those not as affect? Does God use weather to try to get people to change or repent?

This YouTube video answers those questions.

As regular readers of this page are aware, I have repeatedly warned of weather problems coming. Back in 2009, in my book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, I wrote that the following was about to happen:

Odd weather patterns result in food shortages and natural disasters. Matthew 24:7
The world is actually in a berserk transition, as the real age of peace is not yet here. It may be a period of chaos. It is the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24:8

Since that was published, we have had record smashing heat and odd weather problems. These weather issues should serve as a wake-up call.

As far as hurricanes go, the Continuing Church of God has the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

Hurricane Harvey dropped the greatest amount of rainfall in any USA storm. Hurricane Irma was the strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic. Hurricane Irma wiped out most of the island of Barbuda, caused a million to lose power in Puerto Rico, devastated St. Martin’s, hit Cuba, and hit Florida. A news headline stated ” ‘Nature’s gone crazy’: Winds, fire, floods and quakes plague North America.” Is there any tie to prophecy? Are heavy winds and rains discussed in the Bible? Any ties to homosexuality and other forms of immorality? What about Donald Trump and Jennifer Lawrence? Does God control the weather? What does God want people to do? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.

Apocalyptic Weather?

Michael Snyder wrote that we are experiencing ‘apocalyptic weather’? Why? What has been happening with heat, drought, flooding, and weather extremes? What have news agencies been reporting? Is there a way, according to the Bible, that this could change? Is weather totally random or does God control the weather? Are groups like the United Nations, the Vatican, and the World Economic Forum proposing ideas related to changes in weather (which they tend to call ‘climate change’)? Could weather at all be related to obedience or disobedience to God’s laws? Does the Bible show that God sometimes uses weather as a warning as well as to encourage people to repent? Does the Bible tell of more extreme weather happening after the start of the Great Tribulation? What about “troubles” during the beginning of sorrows? Steve Dupuie and Dr. Thiel go over these issues.

Here is a link to our video: Apocalyptic Weather?

The flooding news and local heat brought to mind the following from scriptures:

7 “I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.
8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord. (Amos 4:7-8)

13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “I will cause a stormy wind to break forth in My fury; and there shall be a flooding rain in My anger, and great hailstones in fury to consume it. 14 So I will break down the wall you have plastered with untempered mortar, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be uncovered; it will fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 13:13-14)

The Bible is clear that God controls the weather and various calamities, but wants people to heed His prophets:

6… If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?

7 Surely the Lord God does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. (Amos 3:6-7)

The Bible tells of weather-related blessings for obedience and weather-related curses for disobedience. Weather is not as random as many people seem to want to believe.

The Bible shows:

30 God … commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30)

And weather-problems are one tool that God uses to urge people to repent (cf. Haggai 2:17; Amos 4:7-12). But most will not. Nor will most Christians as they should (cf. Revelation 3:14-18; see also The Laodicean Church Era).

Most will ignore weather changes and simply believe that weather changes all the time and the changes do not have to do with God or disobeying His laws.

Jesus taught:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:7-8).

8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

The sorrows and troubles are just beginning and will get much worse.

Severe weather is consistent with the troubles that Jesus spoke of.

The Bible teaches that weird, severe, and odd weather patterns are part of the warning messages that God gives.

Are you paying attention to those messages?
