Jordanian intelligence foils ISIS attack on IDF troops

July 27, 2021

Jordanian intelligence agents have thwarted a potential Islamic State attack on Israeli troops on the border the two countries share, Jordanian daily Al Ra’i reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, Jordanian intelligence agents uncovered the plot in February, and after a lengthy investigation, arrested four ISIS operatives implicated in the plan.

The four are suspected of planning to ambush Jordanian Border Police forces near the border, seize their vehicles and weapons and use them to ambush IDF soldiers operating along the Israeli side of the border. …

In 1994, Jordan became the second Arab country to sign a peace deal with Israel, following Egypt in 1979. Jerusalem and Amman consider each other strategic partners in the effort to maintain regional stability and maintain close security ties as part of the war on terror. https://www.israel365news.com/195326/report-jordanian-intelligence-foils-isis-attack-on-idf-troops/

As far as the Islamic State goes, a report from Voice of America last night says it is not gone:

Islamic State Resilient as Ever in Iraq, Syria

July 26, 2021

Intelligence agencies studying the fate of the Islamic State in Iraq fear the terror group is not going anywhere, even as U.S. combat forces in the country prepare to “recede deep into the background” and leave the brunt of the work to Iraqi forces.

The assessment is one of the key findings in a report released by the United Nation’s sanctions monitoring team, which warns that despite setbacks, IS, also known as ISIS or ISIL, is poised to be a problem for some time to come in Iraq and in neighboring Syria, as well.

“The group has evolved into an entrenched insurgency, exploiting weaknesses in local security to find safe havens and targeting forces engaged in counter-ISIL operations,” according to the report released Friday, which was based on member state intelligence.

“Attacks in Baghdad in January and April 2021 underscore the group’s resilience despite heavy counter-terrorism pressure from Iraqi authorities,” the report added. IS “is likely to continue attacking civilians and other soft targets in the capital whenever possible to garner media attention and embarrass the Government of Iraq.”

In addition to IS’ ability to launch attacks in Baghdad, U.N. member state intelligence agencies see the terror group reasserting itself in the Diyala, Salah al-Din and Kirkuk governorates, where its operatives have carried out a series of attacks on roads linking one area to another.

Intelligence agencies also expressed concern that IS operatives are successfully exploiting poor communication and coordination among different Iraqi provinces. https://www.voanews.com/middle-east/islamic-state-resilient-ever-iraq-syria

Furthermore, the Taliban has been expanding its control over more parts of Afghanistan as the BBC reports:

27 July 2021

The resurgent Taliban have taken more territory in Afghanistan in the last two months than at any time since they were ousted from power in 2001. …

It appears the Taliban have been emboldened in recent weeks by the withdrawal of US troops – retaking many districts from government forces.

Research from the BBC Afghan service shows the militants now have a strong presence across the country, including in the north and north-east and central provinces like Ghazni and Maidan Wardak. They are also closing in on major cities such as Kunduz, Herat, Kandahar and Lashkar Gah. …

By control, we mean districts where the administrative centre, police headquarters and all other government institutions are controlled by the Taliban. …

About 15 million people – half the population – were reported to be living in areas either controlled by the Taliban or where the Taliban were openly present and regularly mounted attacks against government forces. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-57933979

Many terrorists associated with the Islamic State and the Taliban still exist. Some will continue to fight and terrorize.

That being said, what about Jordan?

Jordan has taken military action, going back at least a half-dozen years against the Islamic State (see Jordan again bombs Islamic State).

Despite that, a confederation of basically Islamic nations, including Jordan will form.

It will include ‘extremist’ as well as ‘moderate’ elements.

But it will not last.

Here is something from my article Is the Future King of the South Rising Up?:

[T]he Bible teaches that the King of the South will be betrayed. Notice, this time from the New Jerusalem Bible, that as well as notice which nations escape the wrath of the invading King of the North:

25…The king of the south will march to war with a huge and powerful army but will not succeed, since he will be outwitted by trickery. 26 Those who shared his food will ruin him…

40 ‘When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king of the north will come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He will invade countries, overrun them and drive on. 41 He will invade the Land of Splendour, and many will fall; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of the sons of Ammon will escape him. (Daniel 11:25b-26a,40-42, New Jerusalem Bible)

Those that escape seem to include Turkey (Edom; see the article Turkey in Prophecy watch also the video What Should You Know About Turkey in Prophecy), Jordan (Moab and sons of Ammon), and those in the Arabic gulf/peninsula (Moab and sons of Ammon). And while not all in the modern nations may escape, those are the peoples that basically escape. Since ‘trickery’ is involved, it appears that some who seem to temporarily support the King of the South (which Turkey, Jordan, and the Arab peninsula will likely do), will betray him to the King of the North.

What does that mean?

It means that while Jordan will likely temporarily be part of the confederacy of nations that will support the coming Middle Eastern/Northern African King of the South, that it will ultimately side with the coming European King of the North. This was also the position of the late Herbert W. Armstrong as he wrote:

‘ … but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.’ The Turkish people today are ‘Edom,’ and the people of Jordan are the p resent· day descendants of Moab and Ammon – descended from Lot, Abraham’s nephew, They will still be in that land. (Armstrong HW. Personal. Plain Truth, June 1967, p. 4)

Decades ago, the old Worldwide Church of God also published the following:

Military forces out of Europe attempting to stabilize the volatile Middle East, will sweep into the “Glorious Land” — the Palestine region (Dan. 11:41, Revised Authorized Version). Many countries will be taken over.

Significantly those ancient lands described as “Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon” — comprising the area of the kingdom of Jordan today — will escape. The reason could be because of Jordan‘s deepening economic ties with Europe, as well as the decision of Jordan‘s King to remain wary of entanglements with his near neighbors. (Hogberg G. “HOLY WAR” to Sweep the Middle East? Plain Truth. March,1984)

While King Hussein died, the kings of Jordan have tended to be more oriented favorably towards the West, including Europe and Israel, than other nations in that region.

The fact that it cooperated with Israel to protect some Israeli forces is actually also a demonstration along those lines.

Jordan will play prophetic roles.

Jordan is expected to be a nation that will agree to the coming ‘peace deal’ associated with Daniel 9:27 (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Furthermore, leaders from the old Worldwide Church of God met leaders including royalty there. Something else related to that, involving one or more current COG leaders, is likely to occur in the future.

From a prophetic perspective, perhaps it should be added that Petra, which is located in Jordan, has been speculated as a place of safety in the wilderness for Philadelphian Christians (cf. Revelation 3:7-12; 12:14-16; see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Near Petra).

While Petra may not be the actual location, a place in Jordan near it may well be.

Dr. Thiel goes over those reasons, plus goes over the REAL reasons that they do, by explaining verses in the Bible that the Islamic State’s articles either ignore or do not understand, including some about Jesus. Additionally, Dr. Thiel agrees with some of the Islamic State’s criticisms of the West, but not their solution. This is a video.
