Pete Hegseth drew controversy for saying, “Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late?”

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invoked migration during a speech marking the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

Speaking at the American cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, Hegseth said: “different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies.”

He added: “Beaches in Spain and Italy and Greece and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive,” before asking: “When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late?” He added: “I pray not, and I believe not.”

Hegseth did not explicitly mention immigration, but the broader Trump administration has criticised Europe’s migration policies and border security. Hegseth’s comments come as the EU prepares to implement its most ambitious migration overhaul in years. The measures are designed to complement the Migration and Asylum Pact, which reforms asylum processing, border screening, and responsibility-sharing among member states.

EU institutions and migration experts estimate that only 20-30% of people ordered to leave the bloc actually do. The European Commission says immigration is needed to address labor shortages, with the EU workforce shrinking by around 1 million people a year.

The EU’s migrant population reached a record 64.2 million in 2025, including 46.7 million people born outside the bloc, according to a recent Berlin-based study using Eurostat and UN data.

The US defence secretary, Pete Hegseth, has been accused by historians and rights campaigners of “grotesque stupidity” and desecrating the memory of the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy after he sought to link immigration to the D-day anniversary, saying Europe was facing a different “invasion” of its shores.

More and more in Europe are being offended by the USA and the Trump Administration. The USA continues to push friends to becoming enemies (cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).

That said, here is more on the EU’s newest migration plan that came out Monday, June 1, 2026:

BRUSSELS — The European Union has moved forward with a vast overhaul of its migration policy, aiming to ramp up deportations and ink controversial deals to build detention centers abroad, in what rights groups compare to the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration policies.

“The new regulation will speed up the return process and increase returns of persons who have no legal right to stay in the EU,” said Nicholas Ioannides, deputy migration minister for Cyprus, which holds the rotating presidency of the 27-nation bloc.

The deal was struck between the EU’s three main institutions — the European Commission, the European Council and European Parliament — during a so-called “trilogue” Monday evening.

Basically, the EU hopes by preventing more from asylum seekers staying in the EU , that they will be outside of it until processed and that the EU will be able to deport more it wants out.

While some will leave voluntarily, many will not.

When pressured more, expect civil unrest and rioting from some migrants in Europe.

Eventually, Europe will reach a breaking point and change.

The Bible shows that Europe will reorganize and a strong leader will emerge:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13, NKJV)

The final European Beast leader, who is also known as the final King of the North, will ultimately promote his religion (Daniel 11:36-38; which will not be Islam, he will at first feign and claim a form of Roman Catholicism). He will make a deceptive deal with the leader of a confederation of peoples in North Africa and the Middle East (cf. Daniel 11:27; Psalm 83:3-8). The confederation will include Syria and Turkey, but Turkey will eventually back out of it and then support the European beast (for details, see Turkey in Prophecy).

This leader will be militaristic and be given power by Satan the dragon for 3 1/2 years:

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. (Revelation 13:1-5)

Islamic issues will be a factor in the rise of this Beast leader–the Bible shows that a European Beast leader will, after destroying the USA (Daniel 11:39), push against and overwhelm a power from the Middle East and North Africa (Daniel 11:40-43).

It should be noted that this Beast leader is NOT Russian (see also Is Russia the King of the North?). Despite claims from Protestant Joel Richardson, this Beast leader is NOT Islamic (see also Is There an Islamic Antichrist?).

Notice a Roman Catholic prophecy:

What kind of a dance?

One that will impact Muslims (as well as another type that will overpower the UK, cf. Daniel 8:24-25; Isaiah 17:3).

There are many Greco-Roman Catholic private prophecies telling of a time of civil war in Europe–and pushing out Islam. Notice that the first one considers civil war is a major sign of end time events:

They will invade Europe. I saw the hordes coming from the West to the East’, and he described to me the countries one by one: from Morocco to Libya to Egypt, and so on to the eastern parts. The southern Slavs will form a great Catholic Empire and drive out of Europe the Turks (Mohammedans), who will withdraw to North Africa and subsequently embrace the Catholic faith. (Dupont, p.76)

Notice that the ‘great prince of the North’ is expected to subdue an Islamic Empire. Notice that the Bible teaches that the ‘king of the North‘ will go into the Middle East and North Africa and eliminate the leader called the ‘king of the South.’ The lands of the ‘king of the South’ are currently Islamic. Perhaps it should be mentioned that Syria is expected to support the confederation of the king of the South (see also Ezekiel 30:2-8), though the time will come that its capital will be destroyed (Isaiah 17:1).

As I have written in the past, European nations will decide that they must take stronger steps against the growing number of Islamic immigrants (see also War is Coming Between Europeans and Arabs).

It appears that migrant issues will be one of the triggers to get Europe to ultimately reorganize as the Bible teaches it will in Revelation 17:12-13, Daniel 11:21-38, Daniel 2:41-43, and other passages.
