Cuba has been in the news.
Last January, US President Donald Trump pointed to possible regime change in Cuba (see Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico: US military action in Venezuela is further evidence of the breakdown of the world order; Donald Trump suggests Mexico, Cuba and Colombia could be next).
He also mentioned Cuba this week and some are protesting there:
The sound of freedom: Cuba’s regime is running out of time — now the US must act
March 18, 2026
A Cuban night is no longer quiet. It is filled with the metallic rhythm of thousands of families striking spoons against empty pots in the darkness. This is the sound of a funeral for a failed ideology. The brutal communist regime imposed on Cuba by the Castro family is collapsing in real time. Its economy is in free fall, its people are hungry and the dictatorship is running out of money and fuel. …
Thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the United States has restored a clear policy toward authoritarian regimes. …
Every night, thousands of Cubans take to the streets in towns across the island. In the City of Moron on the eastern side of the island, the townspeople even set fire to the Communist Party’s headquarters during a massive protest. …
This moment demands clarity and resolve from the United States. We are closer than ever to ending the tyranny imposed by the Castro family and their loyal enforcers in Havana, but only if we maintain a firm strategy. …
More than 1,400 political prisoners remain behind bars, patriots whose only crime was demanding freedom. President Donald Trump has an opportunity to help change the course of history. If the regime once again resorts to massacring its own people, as it has in the past, the United States must make clear that such brutality will not be tolerated. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/sound-freedom-cubas-regime-running-out-time-the-us-must-act
President Trump escalated his threats to seize Cuba this week — raising questions about whether he might seek to topple the Communist Caribbean island’s leader Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The big picture: As Cuba’s totalitarian government faces a deepening energy crisis that saw an island-wide blackout amid a U.S.-imposed oil blockade, Trump told reporters Monday he believes he’ll be “having the honor of taking” the island. …
What’s different about these protests compared to previous ones is “the geopolitical context has changed” and the blackout was due to oil rationing, Adrian Hearn, a professor of Latin American Studies at Australia’s University of Melbourne who has years of research experience in Cuba, …
- said in a Tuesday phone interview “there are many people in Cuba who are loyal to the Cuban revolution.” They would need someone with “the right credentials” to “bring about a change behind the scenes.”
- This could result in another Castro ruling Cuba.
Zoom in: Axios’ Marc Caputo reported last month that Secretary of State Marco Rubio held secret talks with Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro — the grandson of influential former leader Raúl Castro and nephew of the late Communist Party of Cuba founder and leader Fidel Castro.
- He’s one of three members of Cuba’s powerful family to emerge as potential successors to Díaz-Canel, the island’s only non-Castro leader since Fidel Castro’s guerrilla forces overthrew the Batista regime in 1959. https://www.axios.com/2026/03/17/trump-cuba-castro-family-next-ruler-contenders
Well, let me point out that leaders in Cuba are objecting to the Trump Administration’s plans for Cuba:
Cuban president promises ‘impregnable resistance’ to any US attempt to control island
Many in Cuba are suffering. In addition to decades long issues, the current situation of blackouts and lack of fuel have made matters worse.
Some in Europe have decided to send aid:
European groups join aid convoy to Cuba amid crippling oil blockade
Millions have been plunged into darkness in Cuba as the US’s total blockade has meant no fuel shipments for three months.
18 March 2026
As Cuba faces a nationwide blackout and energy crisis, the first members of a global aid mission taking more than 20 tonnes of food, medical supplies and solar panel equipment arrived in Havana on Wednesday.
Organised by an alliance of progressive groups, Nuestra America Convoy to Cuba (NACC) is being pitched as an act of humanitarian support for the island nation and a protest against the United States’ total oil blockade on Cuba.
The convoy includes representatives of European left-wing political parties, trade unions and advocacy groups, who left from Milan on Tuesday.
Since the US’s January operation to remove the Venezuelan president and Cuban ally, Nicolas Maduro, Washington has piled maximum economic pressure on Havana with a complete oil blockade, meaning that no foreign fuel shipment has reached the country in the last three months. …
Prior to the current crisis, the EU had urged the US to end the embargo against Cuba, with most European countries voting against sanctions during last year’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). …
As it suffers from a severe fuel shortage, Cuba faces total humanitarian collapse, the UN has warned.
The governments of China, Chile, Mexico and Canada have either sent or pledged to send humanitarian aid to the island. Spain has also promised to channel aid.
The Cuban crisis comes at a time when European powers are questioning their relationship with the US, as it, along with Israel, wages war on Iran. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/3/18/as-cuba-found-flotilla-leaves-italy-europe-divided-over-stance-on-crisis
So, what will happen in Cuba?
In the short run, people there will continue to suffer.
As I posted here in January:
I have long warned that Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America would align with Europe. Statements and actions by the Trump Administration are likely getting more in those lands to consider that now. (Thiel B. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico: US military action in Venezuela is further evidence of the breakdown of the world order; Donald Trump suggests Mexico, Cuba and Colombia could be next. COGwriter, January 3, 2026)
Irrespective of what the Trump Administration hopes, ultimately Cuba, like basically the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, will align with the coming European Beast power consistent with prophecies such as Ezekiel 27:12-24 and Revelation 18:3,12-13.
While there are arguments in Europe about what to do regarding Cuba, the fact of sending food and other aid will likely be remembered favorably by the Cubans.
A new world order is in the process of being formed.
It will not be nice, but according to biblical prophecies, it will be led by a European dictator until Jesus returns (Revelation 17:12-13).
