U.N. and Others Upset With Syrian President

As Libya seems to be changing, more pressure will likely face the President of Syrian.  Here are a few news items giving some carnal reasons why:

Washington Post – ‎22 August 2011

UNITED NATIONS – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday accused Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of failing to live up to his pledge to halt security operations against protesters, saying the Syrian leader “has not kept his word.”

Syria Incidents on Monday– 22 August 2011

Two people were killed and four wounded early Monday morning in the city of Mesyaf in Hama province when regime supporters opened fire, the London-based activist group said.

Syrian activists and oppositions reported many night demonstrations along with gunfire and arrests reports in Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Idleb and Daraa along with its suburbs too.

In his televised interview on Sunday, President al-Assad said that Syrian military has not targeted peaceful protesters; despite widespread reports from witnesses, medical officials and diplomats in the country, according to international reports and foreign news agencies.

Obama Administration Picks Muslim Brotherhood in Syria?

As I have written before, I believe that the current regime in Syria will likely change–and whether it does or not, Syria ultimately will support the final King of the South of Bible prophecy (Daniel 11:40).

Syria is mentioned in Bible prophecy:

8 For the head of Syria is Damascus (Isaiah 7:8).

Notice what the Bible shows will happen to Damascus:

1 An oracle concerning Damascus:
“See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. 2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. 3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus;the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites,” declares the LORD Almighty. (Isaiah 17:1-3)

3 Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment…5 I will also break the gate bar of Damascus,
And cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven,
And the one who holds the scepter from Beth Eden.
The people of Syria shall go captive to Kir,”
Says the Lord. (Amos 1:3, 5)

It is possible that the future King of the South may for a time be in Damascus and this may be part of why it will be destroyed or it could be destroyed prior to that because of other issues involving the current government.  If instead it is for years from now, this destruction may be related to the prophecy of the King of the North eliminating the King of the South in Daniel 11:40-43. The government military actions currently going on in Syria will not prevent this either way.

It may be of interest to note that at least some holding to Islamic prophecy look forward to a time where an Imam Mahdi (sometimes spelled Medhi) will lead an Islamic caliphate and be based in Damascus:

The Mehdi is a normal man who is going to follow the true Islam. His name will be Muhammad and his father name will be Abdullah. He is a descendant from Ali and Fatima (daughter of the prophet Muhammad) so he will be descendant from al-Hasan or al-Hussain or both. The Mehdi will be very just and his capital will be Damascus. The Mehdi is NOT a prophet but he is the final Rightly Guided Khalifah.  (http://www.nooredarwesh.com/main/imam-mahdi-as viewed 05/01/10)

A Caliph (Khalifah above) is a hoped for multinational Islamic leader that groups like the Muslim Brotherhood (which has a presence in Syria, see  Obama Administration Picks Muslim Brotherhood in Syria?) want to see rise up (hence he sounds a lot like the prophesied King of the South in Daniel 11).

Perhaps it may take a regime change in Syria for the final King of the South to rise up.  If so, it may not be too very long.
