Sons of Levi Resume Ancient Temple Service: Daily Psalm Sung at Altar Site”
June 26, 2026
For nearly two thousand years, the Temple Mount stood in silence — no Levitical choir, no sacred song, no music ascending from the stones where the altar once burned. That silence ended Tuesday morning.
A group of three Levi’im — Levites — ascended the Temple Mount and sang the Shir shel Yom, the daily psalm appointed for Tuesday, at the site of the ancient altar. The event, facilitated by the Beyadenu movement for the Temple Mount, marks what participants describe as the partial resumption of one of the most ancient sacred duties in Jewish history: the Levitical song that accompanied the korban Tamid, the daily morning offering, in the days when the Temple stood.
The Levites issued a statement following the ascent: “We were moved today to fulfill — partially — our dream as sons of Levi: to sing the song of God on the holy mountain. Today, thank God, there are several organizations of Levites preparing for the day when we can stand again on the platform, and we invite our Levite brothers to inquire and join.”
The Bible is explicit about what Levitical song meant in the Temple. It was not background music. …
The Hebrew announcement calls explicitly for additional Levi’im — young and old, with the ability to sing — who are willing to train and ascend to fulfill their ancestral role on the Temple Mount, and in the future, God willing, in the Temple itself. Qualified Levites interested in joining the growing choir are encouraged to contact the organization.
The Gaon of Vilna, the great 18th-century Torah sage, taught that the music of the Temple would be the last secret revealed before the coming of Mashiach — the Messiah. https://israel365news.com/419146/sons-of-levi-resume-ancient-temple-service-daily-psalm-sung-at-altar-site/
While the Bible does NOT teach that music needs to return to the Temple Mount for Jesus to return, some Jews believe that it is necessary in order to support daily sacrifices, which since they do not accept Jesus as Messiah, they believe still needs to be done.
The Bible, does, however, prophesy that the daily sacrifices will be stopped:
9 And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. 10 And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. 11 He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. 12 Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered.
13 Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who was speaking, “How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices and the transgression of desolation, the giving of both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled underfoot?”
14 And he said to me, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.” (Daniel 8:9-14)
27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering … (Daniel 9:27)31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. (Daniel 11:31)
11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. (Daniel 12:11)
Since the daily sacrifices will be stopped, the logical conclusion is that they must again be started.
Various groups in Israel (as well as outside of Israel) want the sacrifices to start.
And in order to do so, they have taken many steps.
Recruiting singers is another step they are taking.
Biblical prophecies will be fulfilled.
Here is part of number 21 from my list of 26 items to prophetically watch in 2026:
21. Jews Ready to Sacrifice
Essentially, since the destruction of Jerusalem and what is called the Second Temple in A.D. 70, the Jews stopped sacrificing animals as they had been doing.
Some claim that the reimplementation of daily animal sacrifices will require what is called a Third Temple in Jerusalem.
Yet, biblically, the Jews do NOT need a rebuilt Temple to sacrifice. They only need an altar, a qualified priest, and implements.
They claim to have all of that. Notice that the Bible recorded the following:
6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid. (Ezra 3:6)
One may argue that since it takes the participation of Jewish religious leaders in order for Jewish animal sacrifices to be resumed, that the above scripture is a moot point.
As it turns out, representatives of both the Sanhedrin and the Temple Institute have told me that they only need government permission to sacrifice, as they are basically otherwise prepared to do so.
Notice that the Book of Daniel tells of a time when daily sacrifices will be stopped:
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. (Daniel 9:27)
31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate. (Daniel 11:31)
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. (Daniel 12:11)
For the sacrifices to stop, they first must start. And the Sanhedrin as well as the Temple Institute are interested in them starting.
While it may take the devastation of Isaiah 22:5-11 to do so, it will happen.
For while the goal of the Temple Institute is to build another temple, only an altar is actually necessary for sacrifices to resume.
It will take political changes to get sacrifices re-implemented. …
I was of the view that a red heifer would be sacrificed in 2025 and it was. However, the Temple Institute is stating it did not count, whereas others disagree. The Temple Institute wants the resumption of daily sacrifices to occur, but it, along with the Sanhedrin, have not done that yet.
Despite what may happen in Jerusalem with the area called the Temple Mount, the Jews will one day reinstitute animal sacrifices and they do not need a Third Temple to do that (see also Why is a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem Not Required?).
The resumption of the daily sacrifices remains something to “Watch” (Mark 13:37).
