Angela Merkel again says EU ‘can’t rely’ on USA, FPIF says ‘Europe should bolt NATO’

US President Donald Trump has shaken up relations with Europe and this is pushing certain ones to want to expand Europe’s military abilities:

Having been called a “foe” by President Trump last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed that she was right to say a year ago that Europe could no longer rely on the United States to impose order on the world, and that it needed to take matters close to home into its own hands.

“We can’t rely on the superpower of the United States,” Merkel told a news conference in Berlin.

As AntiWar’s Jason Ditz notes, Merkel did not elaborate on exactly what this “order” meant, but it comes in the context of recent polls showing German voters resistant to her desire to increase military spending. Europe Should Bolt NATO

Europe should take advantage of Trump’s hostile attitude to get out of a relationship that’s brought more drawbacks than benefits.

Donald Trump hasn’t shown a lot of love lately toward America’s European allies.

On his recent trip to Europe, he dismissed Germany as Moscow’s minion and called the European Union a “foe.” He’s also treated NATO as an alliance to be bullied into submission rather than as the premier method of coordinating security policy with friendly nations. He even threatened to pull the United States out of the alliance. …

Today, Europe finds itself caught between a more aggressive Russia and a more unpredictable United States. … Europe is also shocked by Trump’s imposition of tariffs on European goods and the president’s open hostility toward European values. … Europe should bring an end to its Cold War relationship with the United States. …

Europe has already taken steps to create its own independent military force. In December, 25 of 28 EU member states agreed to finance European military capabilities and begin integrating their militaries. A Franco-German brigade, established in 1989, could serve as the foundation of a European army.

Together, Europe has enough firepower to deal with any external threat. France and Germany together spend nearly twice what Russia does on the military. …

So, various ones want Europe to beef up its military.

In December 2017, the Europeans agreed to an arrangement called PESCO, which some consider an alternative to NATO (see PESCO: EU’s alternative to NATO?).

As far as a “European army” goes, the Bible teaches that Europe will have a great army:

25 “He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. (Daniel 11:25)

The “He” is identified as the final prophesied European King of the North in Daniel 11:40 (watch also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).

Europe does not have a great army yet, but PESCO may be the instrument such an army is developed under.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Trump came late to the meeting where Ukraine and Georgia were banging on about the Russian threat, started ranting about spending and blew up the decorous charade. …

President Trump … stamps out of NATO leaving them quaking: if you say Russia is the enemy, why do you act as if it isn’t; and if you act as if it isn’t, why do you say it is? And firing, over his shoulder, the threat: 2% by next January.

I believe it is a threat and a very neat one too:

Well, when Europe concludes it not only does not need the USA, but that the USA is in its way and it can take it down, it will actually defeat the USA militarily.

The Bible clearly shows that Europe will be a warring power (Daniel 11:39-44). It also shows that the success of the European Beast, King of the North, power will cause the world to marvel as well as defeat the strongest military power:

3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:3-4)

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. (Daniel 11:39)

The Beast of Revelation 13 and the “he” of Daniel 11:39 is a European leader, also called the King of the North in Daniel 11:40. Notice that Daniel 11:39 states that the strongest military power–which currently is the USA–will be taken over.

The Europeans are mad at the USA for many reasons (including its President Trump), the UK for the Brexit vote, and will decide that places like Canada are too connected to them to remain.

The USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies will be defeated (Daniel 8:24-25; Isaiah 17:3; Jeremiah 30:7).

Donald Trump’s actions will be a factor in the rise of the European King of the North Beast power.
