The so-called Islamic State killed people today in Yemen:

May 12, 2016

SANAA, Yemen — Yemen’s Islamic State affiliate claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing that struck a navy base in the southern port city of Mukalla on Thursday morning, killing at least six troops in a rare IS attack in a city once occupied by its rival militant al-Qaida branch.

Officers from a Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government have been seen recently at the base but it was not immediately clear if any of the coalition troops were present at the time of the attack.

The IS affiliate in Yemen, which has largely been eclipsed by the rival al-Qaida branch, emerged during the country’s civil war, seeking to expand its footprint amid the turmoil gripping the country. Since March last year, Yemen has been immersed in a conflict pitting the country’s Shiite Houthi rebels and their allies against President Abed Rabbo Mansour’s government, which is backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

In Thursday’s attack, the bomber rammed his car into a checkpoint manned by Yemeni troops outside the navy base, sending a plume of heavy black smoke into the sky, security officials said. Ambulances were seen rushing to the site and images of the aftermath were posted on social media.

In an online statement by IS supporters on Twitter, the group identified the suicide bomber as Hamza al-Muhajer, saying he detonated his vehicle at the headquarters of “Hadi’s apostate militias” — a reference to forces loyal to Hadi’s government.  http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/05/12/world/middleeast/ap-ml-yemen.html

This comes a day after the Islamic State killed many in Iraq:

May 12, 2016

(CNN) The Sunni terror group ISIS says it’s behind a series of attacks in Iraq’s capital Wednesday that targeted Shiites and left more than 90 people dead.

At least 64 people were killed when a car bomb went off at a market in Baghdad, according to Iraqi police. Another 87 people were wounded in that attack in the largely Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City. …

Later in the day, a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest detonated in a busy square in the Shiite neighborhood of al-Kadhimiya, killing 17 people and wounding 43 others, two police officials in Baghdad told CNN. A suicide car bomber exploded in the Sunni neighborhood of al-Jamia in western Baghdad, killing 12 people and wounding 31 others. The attackers targeted a checkpoint manned by Shiites.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks, according to a message on the Twitter account for Amaq, a media outlet linked to the group. http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/11/middleeast/baghdad-market-bombing/index.html

With such attacks, some might feel that the Islamic State is winning.  Instead, various ones see the attacks as acts of desperation.

Some of the Islamic State’s income has been greatly reduced:

May 11, 2016

Efforts to hack away at the Islamic State terror group’s wealth are making good progress but are not yet close to crippling its finances, according a senior U.S. treasury official.

“ISIL is suffering financially and it’s due in large part to the efforts we in the coalition have been taking,” Assistant Treasury Secretary Daniel Glaser said Wednesday during a talk Tuesday at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. ISIL is an acronym for Islamic State.

The most notable headway has come against IS’s budding oil ventures which, at one point, were bringing in an estimated $500 million a year.

The Treasury Department’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence believes such revenue has now been cut in half — to about $250 million a year — due to coalition airstrikes, counter-smuggling efforts and a drop in global oil prices.

‘Stranglehold’ on resources

A U.S. intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it is clear Islamic State is “feeling pressure” from persistent strikes against its oil infrastructure, as well as its cash stockpiles in Iraq and Syria, all of which is having a trickle-down effect.

“On multiple dimensions — manpower, new recruits and operating space — ISIL is at its weakest point,” the official added, using a line that has been gaining favor in recent weeks.

It is estimated that IS cash reserves alone have been slashed by as much as $300 million to $800 million, as U.S. and coalition partners have increased the tempo of airstrikes aimed at the group’s finances. http://www.voanews.com/content/islamic-state-cash-flow-cut-considerable/3326800.html

But it is more than cutting off money, the Islamic State will not succeed as it is because its approach is too repulsive for most of the Arab world.

Yet, its existence seems to be leading to something it wants.

Which is?

A coalition of Muslim nations.

Partially because of the Islamic State, Arab troops are now getting ‘real world’ battle experience in places like Yemen.

The Bible tells of a time when the King of the South will have a massive army:

25 And the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him. 26 Yes, those who eat of the portion of his delicacies shall destroy him; his army shall be swept away, and many shall fall down slain. (Daniel 11:25-26)

The Arabs have taken steps towards that already as earlier this year, Saudi Arabia hosted the world’s largest military exercise called “North Thunder” (see World’s largest military exercise taking place in Saudi Arabia–a prelude to the King of the South?) and has a significant presence in Yemen.

And the USA has been encouraging much of this. A coalition of nations in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Bible tells of a time of a coalition led by one called the final King of the South (NKJV) or “southern king” GWT):

40 “In the end times the southern king will attack him. The northern king will rush at him like a storm with chariots, horses, and many ships. He will invade countries, overwhelm them, and pass through their land. 41 He will invade the beautiful land, and tens of thousands will be defeated. But Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the Ammonites will escape from his power. 42 He will use his power against many countries. Even Egypt will not escape. 43 He will control gold and silver treasures and all Egypt’s treasuries. Libya and Sudan will surrender to him. (Daniel 11:40-44, GOD’S WORD translation)

The lands listed above are mainly Arab-dominated ones. While the current coalition has mainly Saudi leadership, the Bible indicates that Egypt will play a prominent role:

2 “Son of man, prophesy. Say, ‘This is what the Almighty Lord says:

Cry for that day!
3 The day is near. The day of the Lord is near.
It will be a gloomy day, a time of trouble for the nations.
4 There will be war in Egypt and anguish in Ethiopia.
Many Egyptians will fall dead.
People will take away Egypt’s wealth,
and its foundations will be torn down.
5 Sudan, Put, Lud, all the Arabs, the Libyans,
and people from the promised land will die in battle.

6 “‘This is what the Lord says:

All Egypt’s allies will die.
Egypt’s strength will disappear.
People will die in war from Migdol to Syene,
declares the Almighty Lord.

7 “‘Egypt will become the most desolate country in the world, and Egypt’s cities will lie in ruins. They will be ruined more than other cities. 8 Then they will know that I am the Lord, because I will set fire to Egypt and all her defenders will be killed. 9 On that day I will send messengers in ships to terrify those who live in safety in Sudan. The people of Sudan will be in anguish when Egypt is in trouble. That day is coming!
(Ezekiel 30:2-9, GOD’S WORD translation)

Now if one reads the accounts in Daniel 11:40-43 and Ezekiel 30:2-9, it is obvious that the King of the South coalition will eventually lose. And that is true.

Yet the Bible also shows that the King of the South will make one or more deals with the European King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:27; Psalm 83:3-8).

Some will say, who cares? Especially if terrorist groups like the Islamic State will be gone or controlled.

Well, while the Bible does teach the primarily Arab coalition will fail, it also shows that the USA itself will be taken over and destroyed before it is (Daniel 11:39; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

To deal with the Islamic State and other terrorist groups, the rise of a massive coalition/army in the Middle East and North Africa is beginning, it is being encouraged by the USA. Yet, it will NOT turn out well for the King of the South (Daniel 11:25; 11:40-43), and it will be a disaster for the USA (Daniel 11:39; Psalm 83:3-8) and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies (Jeremiah 30:7).
