More species are expected to become extinct:

Planetary Collapse Threatens Our Survival: A New Study Says That More Than 1,200 Species “Will Almost Certainly Face Extinction”

We are witnessing a worldwide environmental collapse, and nobody seems to know how to stop it. … a study that was just released that looked at more than 5,000 species of birds, mammals and amphibians discovered that nearly a quarter of them “will almost certainly face extinction”. …

According to this new study, over 1,200 species will soon be extinct unless dramatic action is taken.  The following comes from the Guardian

More than 1,200 species globally face threats to their survival in more than 90% of their habitat and “will almost certainly face extinction” without conservation intervention, according to new research.

Scientists working with Australia’s University of Queensland and the Wildlife Conservation Society have mapped threats faced by 5,457 species of birds, mammals and amphibians to determine which parts of a species’ habitat range are most affected by known drivers of biodiversity loss.

Once these species are gone, they will be gone forever.

And remember, this study from Australia only included larger creatures such as birds, mammals and amphibians.  The situation is far more dire when we look at what is happening to the insect world. …

Our planet is literally dying, and there is only a very, very limited amount of time to do anything about it.

Meanwhile, western civilization is dying as well. … Time is running out for our exceedingly vacuous society. We are literally destroying ourselves and everything around us, and here in the western world we have completely lost our values. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/planetary-collapse-threatens-our-survival-a-new-study-says-that-more-than-1200-species-will-almost-certainly-face-extinction retrieved 03/15/19

Yes, there is a major crisis in values and that is part of why we are seeing declines and extinctions of various species.

Yes, physical survival is at risk as Jesus prophesied “unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved” (Mark 13:20).

As far as the insect world goes, see the posts: BBC: Global insect decline may see ‘plague of pests’ and ‘The world’s most popular pesticide probably killed England’s wild bees’.

In the 20th century, more began to be realized about modern chemicals and pollution:

We are dosing the environment with materials that poison virtually everything. Some of these poisons are extremely persistent and are absolutely everywhere! (Ehrlich P. Our Environmental Crisis. Plain Truth magazine, 1970)

Many poisons have affected the environment and are factors in the loss of species.

The United Nations held a meeting this week in Kenya on the environment. Here are two reports related to that:

15 March 2019

Environmental groups involved in talks at a United Nations conference in Kenya have accused the US of blocking an ambitious global response to plastic pollution. … a coalition of environmental groups at the conference condemned the US for blocking the ambitious attempts to tackle plastic pollution at source as well as downstream. …

“It’s hard to find one solution for all member states,” Siim Kiisler, the president of the UN environment assembly, told Agence France-Presse before the final decision. “The environment is at a turning point. We don’t need verbose documents, we need concrete commitments.”

When asked whether the US had pushed to have the commitments watered down during the week’s negotiations, Kiisler said: “I will not answer that question.”

David Azoulay, from the Center for International Environmental Law, condemned the weakening of the commitment.

He said: “The vast majority of countries came together to develop a vision for the future of global plastic governance. Seeing the US, guided by the interests of the fracking and petrochemical industry, leading efforts to sabotage that vision is disheartening.” https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/mar/15/us-accused-of-blocking-ambitious-global-action-against-plastic-pollution-un-conference-environment

Mother Earth got a bad health report from the United Nations this week, and the scientific team that conducted the exam didn’t shirk from delivering the bad news. The word “dire” comes to mind.

The assessment is contained in the sixth Global Environmental Outlook, a 708-page compendium of the planet’s ailments that was released at a U.N. environmental conference here this week. The Earth’s condition has continued to deteriorate since the first global outlook was prepared in 1997 and “urgent action at an unprecedented scale necessary to arrest and reverse this situation,” the team warned.

“The science is clear,” Joyce Msuya, acting executive director of U.N. Environment, said in a briefing. “The health and prosperity of humanity is directly tied with the state of our environment.”

She added the planet stands at a crossroads: the Earth’s ailments are treatable, but not for a lot longer if people don’t make fundamental changes in what they consume, how they create energy, dispose of waste, and generally decrease the human footprint that is degrading air, water, and land. …

Overall, the Earth suffers from land degradation; biodiversity loss; air, land and water pollution; and the effects of climate change—and must prevent and manage further risks and disasters. Without changes, the situation looks bleak for all of its inhabitants. A major extinction event is underway, compromising the globe’s “ability to meet human needs,” the report warns.

Biodiversity helps regulate climate, filters air and water, forms soil, and mitigates the effects of natural disasters, the team explains. Yet, populations of species are declining and extinction rates are rising. Presently, 42 percent of land-based invertebrates, 34 percent of freshwater invertebrates, and 25 percent of marine invertebrates are at risk for extinction. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/03/un-healthy-planet-report-environment/

Once again, the Trump Administration is being blamed for not supporting international standards related to pollution–this is something I warned would happen before Donald Trump began his term of office (see, for example, my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse).

That being said, plastic pollution is a problem. And yes, change is needed.

Yet, the changes that the politicized climate change advocates are proposing will not stop this.

While pollution reductions are always a good thing, the societal agenda that the United Nations, Vatican, World Council of Churches, etc. tie in with their environmental plans will not work.

As far as how Christians should view the environment, going to the book of Genesis is a good place to start.

Notice:

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. (Genesis 2:15)

Humans were to be stewards over God’s creation.

Now notice something else about it:

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. (Genesis 1:24-31)

Pollution, which harms the creation, is not good. And we should try not to unnecessarily pollute. We should try to avoid, or minimize, the use of synthetic chemicals where it is feasible. And yes, we can separate trash for recycling, as well as try to reuse items instead of throwing them away and replacing them.

The Continuing Church of God has the following sermon at its ContinuingCOG channel related to the environment:

1:11:07

Christians and the Environment

How should Christians view the environment? Does the Bible give any clues? Did God make the earth good? Does the Bible give clues to prevent environmental problems? What are some of the effects of air, water, and land pollution? What will happen to the earth? How will Christians be involved? Does the Bible have warnings for those that are destroying the Earth?Dr. Thiel addresses these and other points.

Here is a link to the sermon: Christians and the Environment.

However, some religious leaders have essentially gone so far as to promote their ‘climate change’ agendas as a real gospel, but that is false. We made the following videos:

9:31

A Different False Gospel

While there have been a variety of false gospels since at least the time of Simon Magus and the Gnostics, there is a relatively new one being pushed by major leaders of the world’s churches. Essentially, leaders are teaching that ‘climate change’ is related to salvation, the unpardonable sin, and something called the ‘social gospel.’ This is being pushed by leaders including Pope Francis of the Church of Rome, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Olav Tveit of the World Council of Churches. Is this a false gospel consistent with Galatians 1:6-11? Are these angels of light or something else (cf. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 )? While it is good to not pollute, will the ecumenical climate change agenda work according to the Bible? Dr. Thiel address these issues and more.

Here is a link: A Different False Gospel.

19:43
On September 7, 2016, Olav Fykse Tveit, Church of Norway Pastor, and the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, essentially declared that those who ignore ‘climate change’ are committing the ‘unpardonable sin’ against the Holy Spirit. Are those two even related? In this video, Dr. Thiel answers that and explains from the Bible what the ‘unpardonable sin’ is and how you can avoid it. He also discusses aspects of Christianity and the environment.

Here is a link to our video: The ‘Unpardonable Sin’ and ‘Climate Change’?

This false gospel is one that does not involve repentance towards God, does not require accepting Jesus as the only name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), nor does it embrace “the faith once delivered to the saints.”

The UN, Vatican, and others are promoting a worldly view that without repentance, but through international cooperation of unconverted leaders, the world will be able to solve its problems.

While trying to pollute less is a proper goal, the Bible shows that what the UN and others are working towards will not succeed.

Twice the Bible warns:

There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12, 16:25)

As far as the ecological situation, the Bible shows that ‘global warming’ will get much worse:

8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. (Revelation 16:8-9)

However, the above prophecy is for several years into the future–we are not too near that yet. But the United Nations will not prevent this from happening.

Furthermore, with international efforts to push towards globalism, often now without the USA, the world will create something claimed to fulfill the vision of Pope Francis, Europe, and the UN. But that will not bring lasting peace–it will end in death and destruction.

Jesus will have to stop humanity from destroying all life:

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. (Matthew 24:21-22).

15 Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

16 And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned. 18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.” (Revelation 11:15-18)

The Bible is clear that a new world will then come, led by the returning Jesus.

That will be the millennial Kingdom of God, not the contents of the Vatican’s Laudato Si or something like what the UN is pushing.

As Christians, something Jesus instructed us to do that appears related to the spiritual and physical pollution in the world, is to pray:

9 Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”

Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20)

Jesus will lead the charge to fix the environmental and other problems that the world is unwilling to properly fix now.

The Kingdom of God is the Solution.

In this age, a rule that I try to live by is “waste less, want less.” We all have wants, but the less we waste, the less we excessively contribute to various types of pollution.

We should have proper concern for the environment and live as Christian stewards.

Remember, God is going to come to destroy those that destroy the Earth (Revelation 11:18).
