Democrats debate tonight, but social scientist says human brain is not built for democracy

WASHINGTON — The 10 leading U.S. Democratic presidential candidates are debating Thursday night, but the focus is likely to be on the three top-polling contenders — former Vice President Joe Biden and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. The other seven will have to scramble to try to edge their way into the top tier of challengers.
The nationally televised debate in Houston, Texas, is the third in a string of Democratic presidential debates ahead of next year’s party election contests to pick a nominee to face President Donald Trump, the Republican incumbent trying to win a second White House term in the November 2020 national election.
The three-hour debate is the first since late July. It also is only a single encounter this time on one night rather than two consecutive nights. Ten more trailing candidates failed to meet Democratic Party requirements to merit a spot on Thursday’s debate stage — campaign donations from at least 130,000 people and at least 2% support in four polls across the U.S. or in states with the earliest voting next year. https://www.voanews.com/usa/us-politics/biden-sanders-warren-finally-square-democratic-presidential-debate
Many people are excited about this debate and several of the candidates. Many others are horrified by the prospective of any of them getting elected. Many are also horrified at the prospect of Donald Trump getting re-elected.
None of what I watched, heard, or read suggests to me that any of the candidates understand the fundamental problems facing the USA. And none have called for repentance nor turning to biblical morality.
What is happening is a ‘recipe for disaster’ no matter who wins (Republican or Democrat) in 2020.
Is democracy the answer?
Biblically, the answer is no. Notice something that the prophet Jeremiah was inspired to write:
23 O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. (Jeremiah 10:23)
Consider those statements as biblical proof democracy is not the way for humanity to go. Now, there is a social scientist who has concluded that the human brain is not made for democracy:
Everything was unfolding as it usually does. The academics who gathered in Lisbon this summer for the International Society of Political Psychologists’ annual meeting had been politely listening for four days, nodding along as their peers took to the podium and delivered papers on everything from the explosion in conspiracy theories to the rise of authoritarianism.
Then, the mood changed. As one of the lions of the profession, 68-year-old Shawn Rosenberg, began delivering his paper, people in the crowd of about a hundred started shifting in their seats …
As much as President Donald Trump’s liberal critics might want to lay America’s ills at his door, Rosenberg says the president is not the cause of democracy’s fall—even if Trump’s successful anti-immigrant populist campaign may have been a symptom of democracy’s decline.
We’re to blame, said Rosenberg. As in “we the people.” …
His prediction? “In well-established democracies like the United States, democratic governance will continue its inexorable decline and will eventually fail.” …
Rosenberg, who earned degrees at Yale, Oxford and Harvard, may be the social scientist for our time …
Citing reams of psychological research, findings that by now have become more or less familiar, Rosenberg makes his case that human beings don’t think straight. Biases of various kinds skew our brains at the most fundamental level. For example, racism is easily triggered unconsciously in whites by a picture of a black man wearing a hoodie. We discount evidence when it doesn’t square up with our goals while we embrace information that confirms our biases. Sometimes hearing we’re wrong makes us double down. And so on and so forth.
Our brains, says Rosenberg, are proving fatal to modern democracy. Humans just aren’t built for it.

Well, as the passage from Jeremiah shows, questions about democracy preceded Plato.
Democracy is not the answer for what ails the USA, the Kingdom of God is.

Various politicians have announced their intentions to run for the office of the President of the United States in 2020. ‘Politico’ ran an article about the ‘sorry state’ of various candidates. Some candidates have felt the need to apologize for previous statements in support of biblical marriage and the need to endorse items of the LGBTQ agenda. Many also support abortion and other anti-biblical actions. Are these ‘American values’? Should the English language be changed to eliminate male/female and singular pronouns? Does the Bible warn about female leaders? Does the Bible warn about leaders that lead people to err? What about condoning sexual immortality? Do the presidential contenders fit prophecies warned about in 2 Timothy 3:1-5? These are some of the subjects that Dr. Thiel addresses.

Pray for the Kingdom of God to come (Matthew 6:10). Also pray as Jesus taught:
34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)
We can expect troubles and tribulation before Jesus returns (Mark 13:8-20).
And that will happen no matter which party wins the 2020 US Presidential election.
