What do Americans and many others find immoral?
Adultery tops the list.
Notice the following:
What Do Americans Consider Immoral?
We asked about behaviors that are, at least in part, morally debated in society today. We did not focus on behaviors that nearly everyone would likely say are morally wrong (like murder or stealing) or that everyone presumably would find acceptable (like asking for directions or picking up litter).
Consequently, the finding that Americans think many things are morally permissible doesn’t mean the public thinks everything is morally permissible.
Indeed, there is one item on our list that most Americans do find immoral: having an extramarital affair. Nine-in-ten U.S. adults say that married people having an affair is morally wrong. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2026/03/19/what-do-americans-consider-immoral/
On Pew’s chart, it showed that 90% of Americans considered married people having an affair was immoral, followed by 52% condemning viewing pornography, 47% against having an abortion, 39% condemning homosexuality, and only 34% denouncing euthanasia.
Of course, all of those are immoral.
The seventh commandment, from the Book of Exodus, states:
14 “You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14)
Here are other scriptures related to that:
23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, 24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress. 25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids. 26 For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. 27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned? 28 Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared? 29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent. (Proverbs 6:23-29)
5 But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 5-7)
27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery’. 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:27-28).
22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)
13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. (Leviticus 20:13)
Pew also, in a related article, had the following:
39% of U.S. adults say homosexuality is morally wrong – far more than take that position in Germany or Sweden (5% each) but far fewer than in Indonesia (93%) or Nigeria (96%).
Still, the U.S. is among the countries whose inhabitants are most likely to condemn extramarital affairs as immoral. Nine-in-ten Americans say that married people having an affair is morally wrong, similar to the share of people in Indonesia and Turkey (92% each) who take the same position. Adults in Germany (55%) and France (53%) are among the least likely to say that having an affair outside of marriage is morally unacceptable. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2026/03/05/in-25-country-survey-americans-especially-likely-to-view-fellow-citizens-as-morally-bad/
In the above survey involving 25 countries, 49% condemned pornography, 32% condemned abortion, and 28% condemned homosexuality.
Irrespective of personal opinions, the Bible condemns sexual immorality and murder (which includes abortion and euthanasia).
Related to the seventh commandment, the one against adultery, the Continuing Church of God put out the following sermon on its ContinuingCOG channel:
1:10:14The Seventh Commandment teaches that people are not to commit adultery. Why? What is adultery? What about fornication, masturbation, pornography, fantasy sex, sexting, and same-sex relations? Are there societal costs for violating the 7th Commandment? What about crime and disease? What did Jesus say about marriage, adultery, and divorce? Is there such a thing as spiritual adultery? Were Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed for their abominations and going after ‘strange flesh’? Was Sodom also destroyed for pride? Do those destroyed in Sodom and Gomorrah have any possible hope? Does the Bible condemn cross-dressing? Does the Bible teach the condoning of homosexual and lesbian relationships? Could marriage be a God-plane relationship teaching us about Christ and His church? Was adultery called a sin before God wrote the Ten Commandments down on Mt. Sinai? Should all that breathe be concerned about avoiding sexual immorality? Were problems with sexual immorality prophesied for the last days? Is marriage supposed to be about love and not lust? What about faithfulness?

Regarding attempts to have an adulterous affair online, there once was a website called Ashley Madison. But it had troubles over a decade ago when its client list was hacked. Related to that, the Continuing Church of God put out the following video on our Bible New ProphecyYouTube channel:
The pro-adultery ‘Ashely Madison’ website was hacked and information released on many of its claimed 37 million registered members. Ashley Madison claimed that ‘life is short, so have an affair’ and that it was confidential. The vast majority of registered members were male). NBC offered tips for those whose identities are being released. What does the Bible teach about adultery or even seriously considering it? Is adultery wicked? The Bible warns that in the last times people will be inventors of evil things and whisperers like Ashley Madison promotes. Is adultery grounds for divorce? What did Jesus teach about this?
