Mike Gendron: ‘Could This Be The Year?’

COGwriter

In his newsletter today, Mike Gendron had the following:

Could This Be The Year?

Each new year we begin with the excited expectation that this could be the year our Lord returns for His Church. Until He comes, we know the fields remain white for harvest (John 4:35).

It continues to be our joy to equip and encourage the Body of Christ to be faithful to the Great Commission (Mat. 28:19-20).

Could this be the year we see “the fullness of the Gentiles” come to Christ (Rom. 11:25)? The apostle Paul’s theme in Romans 11 deals with the partial hardening that has happened to Israel. It began when Israel rejected Jesus as her Messiah, and it will continue until the complete number of Gentiles chosen by God have come to salvation. This should encourage the Church to be faithful witnesses in these last days. Can you even imagine what it will be like when the last Gentile responds to the Gospel with repentance and faith, and the Lord Jesus descends from heaven, calling us home (1 Thes. 4:16)?

Mike Gendron brought up two points to address here.

Romans 11:25 and Jesus’ return.

First, lets look at Romans 11:

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; 27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.” (Romans 11:25)

The late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong wrote about this:

Now study carefully beginning verse 25: “Blindness in part is happened to Israel [HOW LONG? Forever? No — note it], UNTIL the fulness of the Gentiles be come in” — the end of this age during which God is calling a people from among the gentiles to bear His name (Acts 15:14). And so, says Romans 11:26, “all Israel SHALL BE SAVED [how?]: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” The Deliverer, Jesus Christ, is coming again!

When He comes, the gentile times will be over — the BLINDNESS will be removed from the Israelites — and their opportunity — their FIRST chance — of salvation will then come to those whom God had blinded! This is at the time when He comes to REIGN on HIS THRONE — the throne of David, with the saints made immortal reigning and ruling with Him — and the time is DURING THE THOUSAND YEARS!

Notice verse 31. These blinded Israelites have not now, in this age, received mercy, that through the mercy of the gentiles saved in this age, they MAY, THEN, obtain mercy and salvation. How? Because these saved gentiles will then be kings and priests, assisting in this wonderful Work! (Armstrong HW. Where Will The MILLENNIUM Be Spent? Tomorrow’s Word magazine, September 1971)

In the Continuing Church of God we have seen massive growth in the Gentile-dominated continent of Africa. We have also had significant growth in other areas. We expect more growth in 2019.

By the way, it should be mentioned that we did not go out and seek growth from Africa or other Gentile areas per se. Basically, what we did was to put out websites, articles, literature, sermons, and messages to reach around the world (Matthew 24:14, 28:19-20), and Gentile leaders contacted us.

The Bible shows that more of the Gentiles had to be called–and that is happening.

Consider that the end does NOT come until the ‘gospel of the kingdom’ reaches enough nations (Matthew 24:14) and the full number (as the NIV, NLT, BSB, CEV, GNT, HCSV, ISV, and NET Bible, put Romans 11:25) of Gentiles God wants in this age come in.

If you really are praying for the kingdom to come as Jesus taught in Matthew 6:10, then you should support CCOG.

That being said, Romans 11:25-27 will not be fulfilled in 2019.

Why?

Because we are years away from Jesus’ return and the fulfillment of 1 Thessalonians 4:16.

Why?

Because according to the Bible, other events needed to occur first.

There are various clues in the Bible, in such books as Daniel and Matthew, that make the prospect of Jesus returning in 2019 impossible.

The Bible shows that Jesus will return AFTER the tribulation, not before it. Notice the following passage from Matthew:

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24:29-31)

Yet, the pre- and mid-tribulation rapturists ignore or try to reason around these scriptures. More details, including some of the scriptures they tend to claim support their view, are documented in the article Is There A Secret Rapture for the Church? When and Where is the Church Protected?

Since the Great Tribulation has not begun, there is no possible way that Jesus will return in 2019.

But make no mistake about it–the end is coming and fairly soon–and most probably, sometime in the next ten or so years. But the Great Tribulation will not start in  2019 nor 2020 (if there is a major war in the Middle East that is resolved by the Fall of 2019, then maybe 2023).

As far as the timing of the Great Tribulation, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) has the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

19:26

Might the Great Tribulation start in 2019?

Is it possible that the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21) might begin in 2019? What about 2020 or 2021? Various ones claim based upon calendar information, shemitah cycles, and other things that it and/or the Rapture will. What were the signs that Jesus said to look for? When does Jesus return? What about the prophet Daniel and the abomination of desolation? Does Daniel 9:26-27 need to be confirmed first by a prince who will later become the King of the North? Do Daniel 9:26-27 and 12: 11 point to three and one half years? Will Europe reorganize? Has Matthew 24:14 been fulfilled? Dr. Thiel goes through biblical passages to show the earliest time that the Great Tribulation can begin. He also goes over some of what Jesus said to do now about it.

Here is a link to the sermonette video: Might the Great Tribulation start in 2019?

Anyway, if you are willing to believe the Bible, you can understand that Jesus will not return in 2019.

However, whether or not you are a Gentile, God could be calling you now.

Notice something from the Book of Acts involving the Apostle Paul:

17 Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. (Acts 17:17)

Now notice something that the Apostle Paul taught in that same chapter:

30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

Perhaps 2019 is the year that God is calling you to be part of the end time Philadelphian church.

Could this be the year for you?

The Continuing Church of God has this sermon available on its ContinuingCOG channel:

1:19:59

One of the most important questions to know the answer to is, “Is God calling you?” And if He is, what should you do about it? Contrary to the views of many, God is not calling everyone now. Are some elect now? Are some predestined to be saved? Are others predestined to be lost? Are you willing to be chosen and faithful? Might God NOT be calling you? Does God have a plan to offer salvation to all? Is the Gospel of the Kingdom to be preached to the world as a witness? Will those called now assist others in the age to come? Are many called and few chosen? Dr. Thiel cites many scriptures to provide biblical answers to these questions.

Here is a link to the sermon: Could God be Calling You?

And as far as what has been going on in the most faithful remnant of the Philadelphia era of the Church of God, the Continuing Church of God is pleased to announce this sermon from its ContinuingCOG channel:

CCOG 6 years: Philadelphians understand scriptures others miss

On December 28, 2012, the Continuing Church of God was declared to begin. What has gone on in these past six years? What are scriptures that Philadelphians seem willing to understand, but that other Christians are not? Does God still use dreams? Is there any role of prophets after the Book of Revelation was written? What are the fruits of a true prophet? Does CCOG have those fruits? What type of reach has the CCOG had? What type of literature has it produced? Is CCOG helping to fulfill Matthew 24:14, Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 13:28-37, and Romans 11:25? Do other churches have serious prophetic and other doctrinal misunderstandings that CCOG does not have? Should Philadelphians support the CCOG?
