NPR: Philippines Says It Will End U.S. Security Agreement; COGwriter: An opening for China and the ‘kings from the east’?

The Philippines took another step to push away from the USA. NPR reported the following:

Philippines Says It Will End U.S. Security Agreement

At the direction of President Rodrigo Duterte, a fierce critic of the United States, the Philippines announced Tuesday that it would scrap a security pact that allows American forces to train there.

Duterte’s foreign secretary, Teodoro Locsin Jr., tweeted Tuesday that the Visiting Forces Agreement with the U.S. would be terminated — a move that could have consequences for a counterinsurgency against Islamist extremists in the country’s south,

“It’s about time we rely on ourselves, we will strengthen our own defenses and not rely on any other country,” Philippine presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said at a regular press briefing, quoting Duterte.

He said Manila would be open to similar agreements with other countries. “As long as it is favorable to us and there is a mutual benefit to both countries, we are open,” he said.

The 1999 Visiting Forces Agreement exempts U.S. military personnel from passport and visa regulations when they come and go for joint exercises and training of troops in the Philippines.

The move to end the pact follows anger over Washington’s reported decision last month to cancel the U.S. visa of Philippine Sen. Ronald dela Rosa. The former chief of National Police, dela Rose enforced Duterte’s brutal war on drugs, which has killed thousands and been widely condemned by international human rights watchdogs. …

The U.S. Embassy in Manila issued a brief statement on Tuesday calling Duterte’s move “a serious step with significant implications for the U.S.-Philippine alliance.” …

The Philippines, a former U.S. territory that gained independence in 1946, has long viewed Washington as its strongest ally. Besides the VFA, it also has a Mutual Defense Treaty with the U.S. that dates back to the 1950s. But some analysts say that pact, along with the Obama administration’s Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, could be in jeopardy if the agreement governing visiting U.S. forces is scrapped. https://www.npr.org/2020/02/11/804751958/philippines-says-it-will-end-u-s-security-agreement

So, more distance between the USA and the Philippines. This is also an opening for China.

The notice comes as President Rodrigo Duterte has been warming up to China and increasingly distancing Manila from the United States, its longtime ally.

MANILA — The Philippines said Tuesday it had officially informed the United States that it was scrapping a military pact that has given the longtime American ally a security blanket for the past two decades.

The notice to terminate the pact, the Visiting Forces Agreement, comes as President Rodrigo Duterte has warmed up to China while distancing himself from the United States, the Philippines’ former colonial ruler. As long-time readers of this news page are aware, I have written about the Philippines moving away from the USA and towards China for years.

So, despite the conflicts currently between China, Vietnam, and the Philippines there is still interest in developing a Pax Asia-Pacifica to replace Pax-Americana. This is consistent with biblical prophecy as it indicates that a confederation of Asian powers will come together at the end and many will gather at Armageddon.

The fact that Fidel Ramos hopes for/expects it in the next 5 -10 years is also of interest and is consistent with my own prophetic understanding of these matters.

While one would think that the Philippines would be more wary of the USA than China, at least one major Philippino leader believes that the future is one in which the USA is not the guarantor of peace. That is now happening!

As far as military cooperation goes, that too is prophesied.

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Revelation 16:12-16).

The above shows military cooperation between Asian powers–it is Asia that is in the far east. This includes China and would seem to also include the Philippines.

Perhaps I should add that this shift away from the USA will not end well for Australia or New Zealand (see Australia and New Zealand in Prophecy), or even the Asians (see Armageddon).

While we are at least seven years away from the fulfillment of Revelation 16, world events are aligning for the fulfillment of this.
