Unsurprisingly, Cardinal Koch supports Vatican II

The Vatican’s Cardinal Kurt Koch made the news today:

16 January 2013

The Vatican’s chief official in charge of relations with the Jews has vowed that the Catholic Church would not reverse its historic declaration ‘Nostra Aetate’ of 1965 which forms the basis of its outreach efforts to other religions. Cardinal Kurt Koch told the Italian religious news service SIR that the church. “The Catholic Church will not go back on the Nostra Aetate declaration because it cannot call the [Second Vatican] Council into question; this is unthinkable,” Koch, the president of the Vatican’s Commission for Religious Relations with Jews, said.

His statement was made ahead of the Day of Jewish-Christian Dialogue which will be celebrated across Italy on 17 January.  http://www.worldjewishcongress.org/en/news/12925/cardinal_koch_pope_s_commitment_to_dialogue_with_jews_not_negotiable_

(JTA) – Ahead of the Catholic Church’s annual “Day of Judaism,” a leading Vatican official slammed breakaway traditionalist Catholics for anti-Semitic positions and reaffirmed the Vatican’s commitment to fostering positive relations with the Jewish world.

“The Jews are our older brothers,” said Cardinal Kurt Koch, president of the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews, reiterating the terminology first used by the late Pope John Paul II during his landmark visit to Rome’s main synagogue in 1986.

As President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kurt Koch’s objective is to get Protestants, Eastern Orthodox, and eventually Jews and others to unite behind the Church of Rome.

Ecumenical unity, as well as reaching the Jews, was part of what Vatican II was all about.  Here are some quotes from the Vatican’s website on Vatican II:

The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council. Christ the Lord founded one Church and one Church only… the Gospel “is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and then to the Greek”. (DECREE ON ECUMENISM Unitatis Redintegratio.  http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decree_19641121_unitatis-redintegratio_en.html viewed 011613)

In our time, when day by day mankind is being drawn closer together, and the ties between different peoples are becoming stronger, the Church examines more closely her relationship to non-Christian religions. In her task of promoting unity and love among men, indeed among nations, she considers above all in this declaration what men have in common and what draws them to fellowship…Indeed, the Church believes that by His cross Christ, Our Peace, reconciled Jews and Gentiles. making both one in Himself…She also recalls that the Apostles, the Church’s main-stay and pillars, as well as most of the early disciples who proclaimed Christ’s Gospel to the world, sprang from the Jewish people…Since the spiritual patrimony common to Christians and Jews is thus so great, this sacred synod wants to foster and recommend that mutual understanding and respect which is the fruit, above all, of biblical and theological studies as well as of fraternal dialogues…True, the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ;(13) still, what happened in His passion cannot be charged against all the Jews, without distinction, then alive, nor against the Jews of today. Although the Church is the new people of God, the Jews should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God, as if this followed from the Holy Scriptures.  (Nostra Aetate PROCLAIMED BY HIS HOLINESS POPE PAUL VI ON OCTOBER 28, 1965. http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_decl_19651028_nostra-aetate_en.html viewed 011613)

What many outsiders do not realize is that the Church of Rome believes that many Jews will become part of the Roman Catholic Church prior to the end of the world as we know it.

The Pope calls an Ecumenical Council which will be viewed as the greatest in the history of the Church. The world is spiritually and materially prosperous as never before and many Jews, Mohammedans, heathens and heretics will enter the Church.  Birch, DA. Trial, Tribulation & Triumph: Before During and After Antichrist. Queenship Publishing Company, Goleta (CA), 1996, p. 555/556)

Blessed Anna Maria Taigi (died 1837): “described to me the great ordeal ahead. Rome would be battered by revolutions…Millions of men would die by the sword in war and civil strife, other millions would perish in unforeseen death. Then entire nations would return to the unity of the Church, and many Turks, Pagans and Jews would be converted and their fervour cover with confusion the original Christians. In one word she told me that our Lord was intending to cleanse the world and His Church…” (Bessieres A. Wife, Mother and Mystic (Blessed Anna Maria Taigi). Nihil Obstat: Carlos Davis, S.T.L. Imprimatur: E Morrough Bernard, Westmonasteri, die Februari, 1952. Reprint TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1982, p. 166)

Magdalene Porsat (19th century): A grand event shall have to take place in order to terrify the wicked to their advantage. After this, Mary, all-powerful, shall change all men into good wheat. All shall be good. The Pharisees (the hypocrites) will be the last (to be converted); the great brigands (great sinners) will arrive beforehand. The Jews who have refused to receive Jesus Christ in his humiliation will acknowledge him at the glorious arrival of Mary…The hour is not far distant. It is Mary in person! (Rossi, G. THE CHRISTIAN TRUMPET, OR, Previsions and Predictions about Impending General Calamities, The Universal Triumph of the Church, The Coming of Antichrist, The Last Judgment, and The End of the World. Compiled by PELLEGRINO [Gaudentius Rossi], A Missionary Priest with Superior’s permission. Boston, THOS. B. NOONAND & CO., 1873, p. 135)

This is part of why the Vatican keeps trying to have a dialogue to encourage cooperation between itself and representatives of the Jews (on the other hand, there are many anti-Jewish writings within Catholicism as well, some of both are in the article Catholic Prophecies: Do They Mirror, Highlight, or Contradict Biblical Prophecies?).

What Cardinal Koch wants the world to believe is not truly the original apostolic faith. And I base that upon not only the Bible, but writings of Catholic leaders and scholars who have looked into related matters (for one example, see What Do Roman Catholic Scholars Actually Teach About Early Church History?).

I have reported about Kurt Koch since he replaced Cardinal Walter Kasper as President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity back in 2010 (e.g. Swiss Bishop Appointed as Ecumenical Head: Antichrist Role?). He has risen in rank and stature since (see Kurt Koch Made a Cardinal: Might He Become the Antichrist?, Kurt Koch Spoke on Vatican II: More Compromise Coming?, and Pope Sends Unity Message to Eastern Orthodox, and Earlier Called Cardinal Koch Venerable). I believe that if he lives long enough, Cardinal Koch will either become the final Antichrist, support the final Antichrist, or be decide that he will have to oppose him.

To take this a step further, yes, this means that I believe that someone who calls himself “Catholic” and somehow may become pope will be the final Antichrist (Some Doctrines of Antichrist). And I also will add that it is NOT “Catholic bashing” to consider that the final Antichrist will call himself “Catholic” as this is the position of certain Catholic mystics and currently living Catholic priests (quotes from these sources are included in the article Some Doctrines of Antichrist). I also retain my belief that most non-Anglo-nation-based Protestants will support this (as well as a significant number in the Anglo lands, but not the current majorities in them).

Now, as I do not personally know Kurt Koch, I am not saying that he is necessarily anything other than a loyal Catholic bishop and cardinal trying to do his job. But that job, from a prophetic perspective, is dangerous.

The Bible shows that an ecumenical unity for the world is coming out of Europe (cf. Revelation 13:3-4,8) and it will not be faithful to the early and true apostolic traditions or sacred scripture.

While trying to be supportive of the descendants of Abraham is a good thing (cf. Genesis 12:3), ecumenical unity will be a disaster for the world (cf. Revelation 13, 17, & 18). American Catholics will find such unity with the Eastern Orthodox especially disturbing if they understood the plan of the Orthodox in this area, or even the Anglicans (who will apparently be less successful with their agenda than the Eastern Orthodox will be).

While proper cooperation with the Jews should be encouraged (cf. Genesis 12:3), the Cardinal Koch’s real goals of unity with them on his terms should not be.

More details can be found in the following:

The Similarities and Dissimilarities between Martin Luther and Herbert W. Armstrong This article clearly shows some of the doctrinal differences between in the two. At this time of doctrinal variety and a tendency by many to accept certain aspects of Protestantism, the article should help clarify why the genuine Church of God is NOT Protestant. Some Doctrines of Antichrist Are there any doctrines taught outside the Churches of God which can be considered as doctrines of antichrist? This article suggests at least three. It also provides information on 666 and the identity of “the false prophet”. Plus it shows that several Catholic writers seem to warn about an ecumenical antipope that will support heresy.

What Do Roman Catholic Scholars Actually Teach About Early Church History? Although most believe that the Roman Catholic Church history teaches an unbroken line of succession of bishops beginning with Peter, with stories about most of them, Roman Catholic scholars know the truth of this matter.
