China’s economy greatly impacted by coronavirus: ‘Peak China’? A factor leading to a new world order?

There are concerns that the coronavirus is having a major impact on the global economy:

The novel coronavirus has the world economy in its most “precarious position” since the 2008 financial crisis, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Monday in its latest forecast.

“The global economy faces its biggest danger since the financial crisis,” the OECD warned. “Containing the epidemic and protecting people is the priority.” … The new coronavirus – which causes a disease named COVID-19 – has infected more than 89,000 people, killed at least 3,000, and spread to upward of 60 countries. …

The Chinese economy is experiencing a sharp slowdown in the first quarter of 2020. “As China accounts for 17% of global GDP, 11% of world trade, 9% of global tourism and over 40% of global demand of some commodities, negative spillovers to the rest of the world are sizeable,” the OECD said on Monday. “There is mounting evidence of sharp declines in tourism, supply chain disruptions, weak commodity demand and falling consumer confidence.” https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/oecd-slashes-2020-global-growth-outlook-on-coronavirus-fears-2020-3-1028954418

China indicates it is close to being economically back to normal:

Coronavirus: China says over 90 per cent of state firms back in business after manufacturing index hits all-time low

The 48,000 subsidiaries under the 96 central government-owned firms supervised by the oversight agency have reported a 91.7 per cent work resumption rate
In contrast, small and medium-sized businesses continue to struggle to get back to work following the various quarantine and work-from-home policies …

Economic production has been sharply curtailed since late January, when Beijing extended the Lunar New Year holiday for a week, with several provinces announcing further extensions until mid-February, prompted by the effects of the coronavirus outbreak, which had caused more than 79,000 infections and over 2,800 deaths in mainland China as of Sunday.

NASA and ESA data, like the photograph at the beginning of this post, suggests that China’s economy has taken a hit:

NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) pollution monitoring satellites have detected significant decreases in nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) over China. There is evidence that the change is at least partly related to the economic slowdown following the outbreak of coronavirus.

At the end of 2019, medical professionals in Wuhan, China, were treating dozens of pneumonia cases that had an unknown source. Days later, researchers confirmed the illnesses were caused by a new coronavirus (COVID-19). By January 23, 2020, Chinese authorities had shut down transportation going into and out of Wuhan, as well as local businesses, in order to reduce the spread of the disease. It was the first of several quarantines set up in the country and around the world.

The maps on this page show concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, a noxious gas emitted by motor vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities. The maps above show NO₂ values across China from January 1-20, 2020 (before the quarantine) and February 10-25 (during the quarantine). The data were collected by the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) on ESA’s Sentinel-5 satellite. A related sensor, the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on NASA’s Aura satellite, has been making similar measurements.

According to NASA scientists, the reduction in NO₂ pollution was first apparent near Wuhan, but eventually spread across the country. Millions of people have been quarantined in one of the largest such actions in human history. As of February 28, 2020, the virus had been detected in at least 56 countries.

1. The limits of force in restoring China’s economy to pre-pandemic levels.

Beneath the surface, confidence has been eroding for years. Despite the “permanently positive news” of bogus GDP statistics, China’s economy has been stagnating for the past few years, and the trade war was not the primary cause: unnoticed by a myopic Western financial media, China’s economy has shifted from a dependence on increasing production and direct foreign investment (FDI) to a largely hidden dependence on speculation. …

Yes, China has a trust issue. And while I believe that the Chinese government is working to try to improve the economic situation there, China’s economy has taken a hit.

Various ones, including Bloomberg News, are claiming that we have seen “Peak China”:

Plenty of experts have lived to regret their predictions of the downfall, the collapse — the peak of anything China. But here it is. I have warned for many years that China would NOT be the power to lead the world’s economy in the 21st century as the Bible points to Europe doing that. Notice one such posted warning:

Now the Bible shows that Europe (Revelation 13 & 18), and not Asia, will be the major economic leader in the future prior to Jesus’ return (watch Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?). But what about China?

Some believe that it is surpassing the USA and the rest of the world, and hence, China will be the leader of the 21st century. The Bible does not teach that it can hold that position for much time, if at all. (Thiel B. BRICS have a political agenda? China to soon be less relevant? COGwriter, January 25, 2014)

While China has grow tremendously economically, one of the things that most Westerners do not realize is that China has a system that prevents its citizens from agrarian areas from having the same rights as those in urban areas. It is called the hukou. Here is more information about that:

Through a rigorous and rigid household registration system designed to control the movement of China’s 1.3 billion people, the central government classifies all its citizens as either city dwellers or rural peasants. The registration, also known in Chinese as hukou, determines not only a citizen’s residence but also what kind of social services individuals are eligible for…In Beijing, which has an estimated 5 million migrant workers, none of these people are allowed to obtain state-sponsored health care or schooling if their hukou is registered in their hometowns—which most likely it is. As a result, their children—many of whom are born in the Chinese capital—can only attend privately-run and unapproved schools. (Mong A, Gu B. In Beijing, 40,000 students stranded. Even people who move from agrarian regions to the cities, still are registered as agrarian/rural and do not get the same rights or even education for their children. This disparity, combined with severe pollution, corruption, and a host of other problems, will affect China more than most realize–despite its generally rising wealth–a lot of which is invested in places that may default.

Now the Bible does say that all trading nations will have become wealthy trading with Babylon (the restored European Empire–not Asia), and that they really will prosper during the beginning years of the great tribulation:

3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury (Revelation 18:3).

13 Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders. They bartered human lives and vessels of bronze for your merchandise. 14 Those from the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses, steeds, and mules (Ezekiel 27:13-14).

Thus, merchandising Asia (Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and others), as the world’s most populous region, is prophesied to attain wealth from the coming restored European Empire, but it will not then be the economically most powerful block of nations in the world. It may well be because of debt defaults and internal unrest that China will not have the abilities to lead the world this century as it seems to hope.

The coronavirus may be one of many factors that will reduce China’s influence to help allow for the coming European dominated new world order. This does not mean that pestilences such as the coronavirus will not impact Europe and its economy–it has already had significant negative effects in parts of Italy. But we may be past peak China–as the domination of China over the world exports may be decreasing.

While US President Trump seems to believe that the US will greatly benefit from China exporting less, we are getting closer to a world order where the Americans and the British no longer dominate.

Expect to see change in Europe and China.
