LCG: Perils Test Our Faith

World Financial Markets Have Been Dangerously Unstable

In his latest update, LCG’s Dr. Winnail wrote:

Perils Test Our Faith: The Apostle Paul warned, “know this, that in the last days perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1).  Jesus predicted that the end of the age would be marked by trials and turmoil on a global scale (Matthew 24).  Jesus also wondered aloud “when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) and He prayed that Peter’s faith would not fail when he encountered trials and tribulation (Luke 22:32).  When the challenges of life begin to mount, we need to remember that faith is one of the fruits of God’s Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and that God gives His Spirit to those who trust Him and obey His instructions (Acts 5:32).  We must do our part to stir up God’s Spirit to help us overcome our fears (2 Timothy 1:6-7).  We can ask for more faith (Luke 17:5).  We need to remember that faith comes from hearing (and studying) God’s word (Romans 10:17), which states plainly that God is faithful (Deuteronomy 7:9) and that He is like a rock and a fortress that protects and preserves His faithful people (Psalm 31:3, 23).  James wrote, “the testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:3-4).  We can build our faith by studying the examples of faith recorded in Hebrews 11, as we strive to please God and stay focused on His plan.

Notice a couple of news reports on one current peril:

ALMOST ARMAGEDDON

MARKETS WERE 500 TRADES FROM A MELTDOWN
New York Post – Sept 21, 2008

The market was 500 trades away from Armageddon on Thursday, traders inside two large custodial banks tell The Post.

Had the Treasury and Fed not quickly stepped into the fray that morning with a quick $105 billion injection of liquidity, the Dow could have collapsed to the 8,300-level – a 22 percent decline! – while the clang of the opening bell was still echoing around the cavernous exchange floor. http://www.nypost.com/seven/09212008/business/almost_armageddon_130110.htm

Apocalypse Now?:  New world order could have devastating implications for Western nations

Daily Mail, UK – Sept 21, 2008

Almost exactly seven years ago Al Qaeda terrorists targeted their hijacked planes into the Twin Towers at the heart of New York’s financial centre — and the world was transformed.

There were no deaths this week, but the effects of the carnage on the financial markets will be far more profound and destabilising than the 9/11 atrocity.

For almost all of us, it will, I predict, be a change for the worse, and for a large minority the consequences will be extremely distressing.

The Western world — Britain, Europe and the U.S. — has moved from excess to austerity overnight. This week’s financial typhoon will savagely impact living standards.

In due course, it will topple governments and lead to a permanent transfer of economic and political power from Europe and America to the emergent and, in some cases, such as China, semi-barbarous economies in the East.

I know I will be accused of being unnecessarily apocalyptic and irresponsibly negative, but I believe that the greatest mistake we can now make is to downplay the seriousness of the situation and bury our heads in the sand.

The seismic events which have seen the near-destruction of the investment banking sector and the collapse of insurance giant AIG are on the scale of the Great Crash of 1929. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1058601/Apocalypse-Now–New-world-order-devastating-implications-Western-nations.html

Even more perilous times are coming as the Apostle Paul wrote and Jesus indicated, but “the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6; Mark 13:7).

But, the while the Anglo – America powers are going to be devastated shortly (and the end, meaning the Great Tribulation, will come to them first), Europe will not really be devastated economically for a few years later.
