Korea extends its air zone to include area that China recently said it would control

Tension are rising in Asia as South Korea has boldly proclaimed that it is extending its air control space:

South Korea has declared an expanded air defense zone that partially overlaps one recently announced by China.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday that the new zone, which will take effect on December 15, will include Ieodo, a submerged reef in waters off the south coast, which China calls Suyan.

The U.S. State Department said Sunday that the South Korean government had conferred with the United States in advance of Seoul’s decision, including in a meeting Friday between U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and President Park Geun-hye in Seoul.

A statement said Washington has been and will remain in close consultation with allies and partners in the region to ensure their actions contribute to greater stability, predictability, and consistency with international practices.

South Korea’s announcement came in response to China’s November 23 decision to create a new air zone that overlaps territory claimed by South Korea and Japan in the East China Sea. China said all aircraft intending to enter the zone must first submit a flight plan, with Chinese officials reserving the right to deny access.

Vice President Biden said in a speech Friday at a university in Seoul that the United States does not recognize China’s air defense zone.

In Beijing Thursday, Biden said China’s new defense zone has created “significant apprehension” in the region.

The U.S., Japan and South Korea have sent military planes into the zone in recent days, defying China’s demand they notify Beijing beforehand. Some believe that China thought that it might get away with what it did as it seemingly felt that the USA would not be so willing to confront it in Asia.

The reason all of this is of prophetic interest is NOT because of a major prophesied war being South Korea and China. The reason is that the actions by China have somewhat forced the USA to conclude that it needs to shift more military resources to Asia. This will also force the USA to conclude that it must trust the Europeans to represent more USA military interests. This will result in the USA sharing even more military technology with Europe. And this will assist in the prophesied rise of a military power in Europe (Revelation 13:4), which is also prophesied to takeover the land with the strongest military fortresses (Daniel 11:39) in the world (the USA).

The USA simply does not have economic resources (as it is currently functioning with) to significantly increase its military commitments to Asia (which it says that it will do, see USA’s Biden rejects China’ fly zone requirements and confirms plan for more focus on Asia-Pacific) without also reducing its commitments to other areas. Since China is not prophesied to be the end time threat to the USA (watch Is China THE Threat to the United States of America?), but Europe is (watch Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).

Perhaps I should add that because of prophecies involving “the kings from the east” cooperating at the end (cf. Revelation 16:12; Daniel 11:44), we in the Churches of God have long taught that a temporary Asian confederation would form (or at least work more closely together) prior to the return of Jesus Christ. The literal translation of Revelation 16:12 is “the kings of the sunrise” and thus this would seem to have to include Korea and China–which are amongst the most eastern of the nations.

But, it should be noted that the Bible does teach that the true gospel of the kingdom will reach the world as a witness (Matthew 24:14) and this will include those in Asia.
