NPR reported the following about the latest Democratic debate:

5 Takeaways From The Last Democratic Debate Before The New Hampshire Primary

February 8, 2020

The Democratic candidates for president debated once again Friday night, just days after the Iowa caucuses and days before the New Hampshire primary Tuesday.

The stakes were high for each of the seven candidates who debated. Here are five takeaways from the debate:

1. Urgency is setting in for the candidates

Unquestionably, the Democratic candidates Friday night see time slipping away. They tried to draw clear lines and distinctions between each other. …

2. Establishment hand-wringing over Biden might be warranted

It was a remarkable moment at the beginning of the debate, when Biden said Iowa voters “didn’t miss anything” and that “I’ll probably take a hit here. …

Biden was clearly lowering expectations in New Hampshire, but he’s not inspiring confidence in moderate voters to go his direction. Iowa proved that. After all, a majority of Democratic voters who turned out in Iowa identified as moderates, and they were split between Biden, Buttigieg and Klobuchar.

3. If the black vote is up for grabs, where does it go?

The risk for Biden is South Carolina — where 60%-plus of Democratic voters are black — is still more than three weeks away. And wealthy venture capitalist Tom Steyer is making hard pitch for them. …

4. Warren, missing in action

This debate was more proof that Warren is struggling to find her groove in this campaign. She is stuck — between progressives with a renewed interest and faith in Sanders and college-educated whites who like Buttigieg. …

5. Real talk for Democrats

Steyer had this plea for Democrats and Democratic voters: “We gotta win or we are in deep trouble.” He said everyone on the stage was “right” about their policy directions, and that everyone is mostly in agreement on the big issues.

He’s right about that. If you’re not in power, then you can’t implement any of these policies — no matter how bold or incremental.

Perhaps as a backlash to Trump, some liberals seem to have less patience for moderation. https://www.npr.org/2020/02/08/804023695/5-takeaways-from-the-last-democratic-debate-before-the-new-hampshire-primary

A headline from the satirical site The Babylon Bee was “Trump Wins Another Democratic Debate.” That can be argued, but as far as the actual presidential election goes, that is still many months away.

Of course, after the debacle with the Iowa caucus this week, the Democrats are eager to that behind them.

The Washington Post put the following out:

February 8, 2020

IT HAS become an unchecked assumption about the Democratic presidential race: The candidates are fighting an ideological war between “left” and “center.” This narrative is false, and it is hardly benign. …

Yes, some candidates in the race are to the left of others. …

But the fact that Mr. Sanders’s and Ms. Warren’s positioning puts them decidedly to the left of others in the race does not make their competitors “centrist.” All, in fact, have put forward ambitious, progressive platforms for reducing inequality and promoting access to health and education. …

Then there are the policy moves that practically all Democrats agree on: giving legal safe harbor to the young immigrants known as “dreamers”; reviving and expanding President Barack Obama’s climate regulations; reengaging with Iran; raising the minimum wage; keeping abortion legal; cracking down on guns.

Yes, all the major Democratic party candidates are pushing what The Washington Post considers as a leftist agenda. All are dedicated to keeping the murder of unborn babies ‘legal’ as well as far as I can tell, they want taxpayers to fund it where feasible. They all also want to push the LGBTQ agenda.

On abortion, the LGBTQ agenda, pornography, and other areas, the USA needs repentance and the Kingdom of God. None of the candidates (including the current President, though his anti-abortion position is refreshing) advocates that.

Whoever wins in 2020 will be dangerous.

The Continuing Church of God put together the following sermon from on its ContinuingCOG channel:

1:06:46

Identifying the USA and its Destruction in Prophecy

Various religious leaders have wondered if, and where, the United States of America may be identified in the Bible. Some claim Daniel 7, some say in Revelation 13, and some say it is gone because of destruction or a pre-tribulation ‘rapture.’ Could the terms in the Hebrew scriptures such as Joseph, Manasseh, Israel, and/or Samaria help identify the USA? Is the USA the power with the strongest fortresses that gets defeated in Daniel 11:39? Could this be World War 3 (WWIII) and the start of the Great Tribulation? Did Barack Obama and Donald Trump claim that the USA has the world’s strongest military? How can the strongest military be defeated? Why will this defeat come? Who defeats the USA, a European King of the North or could it be an Islamic power that the Bible identifies as the King of the South? What about Germany? What about Russia, China, the Turks, or the Arabs? Where did the Catholic saint Jerome say Asshur/Assyria ended up? Did the United States fulfill the prophecy given to Manasseh in Genesis 48? Does the USA have a fraternal, brotherly, or sibling relationship with the United Kingdom or Canada? Does the Continuing Church of God agree with Irvin Baxter, Walid Shoebat, Greg Laurie, Ed Mlynar, or ‘Time’ on any points related to the fate of the USA? Do biblical references to eagles need to be referring to the USA? What can we see in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Habakkuk, Hosea, Amos, Zephaniah, and Revelation? Dr. Thiel goes over scriptures, writings, and historical evidence to address these matters.

Here is a link to the sermon video: Identifying the USA and its Destruction in Prophecy.

There are also calls for the ‘right’ and the left’ for violence if their preferred party does not win the November 2020 election.

We may very well see violent civil unrest in the USA because of the election for this year.

Sadly, people on both sides of the political spectrum have wrongly suggested/promoted violence if they do not get their way. This is not good for the USA. As Jesus said:

25 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. (Matthew 12:25)

17 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. (Luke 11:17)

The divide in the USA is growing as many of its sins (including hypocrisy) become more blatant.

Strife (#7) and the US Presidential election (#20) were among the 20 items to prophetically watch in 2020 (here is a link to a related sermon: 20 Prophetic Items to Watch in 2020).

What is happening is a ‘recipe for disaster’ for the US no matter who wins (Republican or Democrat or ?) in 2020.

Despite Republican President Donald Trump claiming that the USA has its strongest economy ever (or some similar superlative), the debt of the USA continues to rise. The reality is that the US is in the process of bankrupting itself economically and morally. It is basically already there, but it looks like many want to accelerate the fall of the US, and several of the Democratic candidates have been proposing economic plans which look to do that. Nor, it should be added, has Donald Trump proposed a plan to truly reverse that.

Of course, by virtue of the timing, whoever is elected in 2020, Democrat or Republican, will be apocalyptic.

Within a decade or so, the US will be taken over (cf. Daniel 11:39) and debt and sin will be factors (Habakkuk 2:6-8) (see USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses and Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).

Related to the 2020 campaign, the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put out the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

11:23

Various politicians have announced their intentions to run for the office of the President of the United States in 2020. ‘Politico’ ran an article about the ‘sorry state’ of various candidates. Some candidates have felt the need to apologize for previous statements in support of biblical marriage and the need to endorse items of the LGBTQ agenda. Many also support abortion and other anti-biblical actions. Are these ‘American values’? Should the English language be changed to eliminate male/female and singular pronouns? Does the Bible warn about female leaders? Does the Bible warn about leaders that lead people to err? What about condoning sexual immortality? Do the presidential contenders fit prophecies warned about in 2 Timothy 3:1-5? These are some of the subjects that Dr. Thiel addresses.

Here is a link to the sermonette video: Sorry state of the 2020 presidential campaign.

Pray for the Kingdom of God to come (Matthew 6:10). Also pray as Jesus taught:

34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)

We can expect troubles and tribulation before Jesus returns (Mark 13:8-20).

And that will happen no matter which party wins the 2020 US Presidential election.
