US Military Urges Washington to Heed Warnings on China

WASHINGTON – A top U.S. military intelligence official is voicing concern that key policymakers and lawmakers may not be taking the threat posed by China seriously enough.

For much of this year, officials with U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies have repeatedly warned about the threat from a rising China, from its growing military might to what they describe as Beijing’s ever bolder forays into cyberspace and brazen espionage campaigns.

Navy Rear Admiral Michael Studeman, Indo-Pacific Command’s director for intelligence, worries it has not been enough.

“I’m wondering in Washington how many folks are truly persuaded,” Studeman told a webinar Wednesday hosted by the nonpartisan Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA). “Frankly, it’s hard to get a lot of attention to certain kinds of scenarios.”

Studeman said part of the difficulty is that while many in the United States see war as unlikely, countries like China view it as a more organic part of their struggle. And Beijing under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, in particular, is prepared to go to great lengths to surpass the United States as a preeminent global power.

“Xi Jinping is very Machiavellian. The end justifies the means,” Studeman said. “The dream justifies achieving that dream at almost any cost.”

This is not the first time Studeman has warned about a rising China.

During a virtual conference this past March, Studeman said the world was already getting “a taste of what it means to be led by China,” predicting that Chinese military leadership would soon be in position to send troops to wherever it feels its interests are being threatened.

And Studeman is not alone.

The former commander of U.S. forces in the Indo-Pacific, retired Admiral Philip Davidson, told lawmakers earlier this year that China appeared to be “accelerating their ambitions” to supplant the U.S. on the world stage.

Administration officials have insisted they are taking the threat seriously.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has also repeatedly described China as the Pentagon’s “pacing challenge,” while Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines has said China is “an unparalleled priority for the intelligence community.” 07/07/21 11:58 pm https://www.voanews.com/east-asia-pacific/us-military-urges-washington-heed-warnings-china

Whether or not the US takes China’s military seriously enough can be debated, but the idea that China is an item of concern to the US is not new.

Hillary Clinton is considered to have been an early promoter of what has been called the pivot strategy towards Asia (Clinton, Hillary. America’s Pacific Century. Foreign Policy, November 2011; Clinton, Hard Choices, pp. 41-46). This result of this ‘Asian pivot’ has partially been responsible for a decreased USA military presence in Europe.

As China’s influence increases, the USA wants to take steps to halt it and increase its own influence. One such proposal is some type of Western ‘Silk Road” project to counter China’s Belt and Road Initiative (see G7’s counter ‘silk road’ will assist European trade).

However, that will not restore USA influence, nor halt China.

That being said, a major blind spot in USA foreign policy is the fact that its leaders do not believe and understand biblical prophecy.

Because of that, various presidential administrations have made major policy moves which what pushed Europe to increase its military potential.

During the Obama-Biden Administration, the Europeans became incensed about U.S.A. espionage to the point that various Europeans believe this has caused irreparable damage to relations with the U.S.A. (see also The Snowden Leaks are Leading to the Destruction of the USA). Hillary Clinton is believed to have approved many of the spying actions that the Europeans are incensed over (Clyne M. Dick Morris: Hillary Surely Knew About Govt Eavesdropping. Newsmax.com, April 6, 2015). The Obama-Biden Administration also pushed the Europeans to spend more on their militaries.

Then the USA got Donald Trump, which further infuriated the Europeans. Donald Trump also pushed the Europeans to spend more on their militaries. His election also led them to decide to form a pan-European military organization called the Permanent Structured Cooperation, PESCO (watch PESCO and a Great European Army).

All of this will hurt the U.S.A. later as the Bible shows it will be taken over by a European power called the King of the North (Daniel 11:39).

Furthermore, the Apostle Paul warned:

20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:20-22)

The USA’s political leadership basically does despise prophecies, does not test all things, does not hold fast to what is good, and most certainly does not abstain from every form of evil–sadly, it encourages evil in many ways.

None of this means that the USA has no legitimate concerns about China.

But, while the USA focuses more and more on China, it will not see what is prophesied to rise up in Europe as a major threat until it is too late.

In December 2017, 25 European nations agreed to be part of a military alliance called PESCO. Europe also has NATO and IEI. Will Europe end up with “a great army”?
