Bulgarian leader warns that Pope Francis is pushing Antichrist unity

Pope Francis has been in Eastern Europe pushing his ecumenical and other agendas:

SKOPJE, North Macedonia — Pope Francis paid a 10-hour visit to North Macedonia on Tuesday https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/pope-francis-prays-mother-teresa-memorial-north-macedonia-n1002691

The Vatican said that much of the purpose of that trip was for Pope Francis to “focus on unity” (https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2019-05/pope-francis-north-macedonia-apostolic-journey-skopje.html).

Pope Francis was in Bulgaria yesterday. Notice the following report from Ecumenical News:

Bulgarian Orthodox prelate gives icy response to Pope Francis’ quest for church unity

The Pope said he met many Christians “who have learned to see with God’s own eyes”, a God who is not worried about details..

But on the second day of the visit Francis got a frosty reception from the dominant church in Bulgaria.

A high-ranking figure in the Bulgarian Orthodox church, Metropolitan Nikolai of Plovdiv, dismissed the papal visit as political and condemned in strong terms Francis’ efforts to improve ties between the churches, The Times reported.

“The goal of all of this is to unite all the religions around the Pope, so that when the Antichrist comes, for the Pope to welcome him, and through him, all who are coming along with him,” Nikolai told a congregation in a church in Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second-largest city.

“How to unite everyone?” he declared, in remarks first reported by Pod Tepeto, a Bulgarian news site. “It is not possible to unite the light and the darkness.”

Francis began his three-day visit to Bulgaria and North Macedonia on May 5 aimed partly at improving relations with the Orthodox Church.

Orthodox leaders said, however, they would not take part in joint services or prayers with the Pope in Bulgaria, the BBC reported.

REJECTION OF JOINT SERVICES

The Pope met Orthodox leaders in Bulgaria in a Sunday visit after they had rejected taking part in joint services or prayers with him. 05/06/19 https://www.ecumenicalnews.com/article/bulgarian-orthodox-prelate-gives-icy-response-to-pope-francis-quest-for-church-unity/60675.htm

A “Metropolitan” is a bishop of a major area, sort of the equivalent of an “Arch Bishop” in the Church of Rome, but can actually be a little above that.

Anyway, I would say that Metropolitan Nikolai’s comments were more than “icy.” I had read several days ago that the Bulgarian Orthodox leaders would not have joint services or prayers with Pope Francis. And they followed through with not having such services.

The comments from Metropolitan Nikolai are important for people to consider, as were some of the comments from Pope Francis.

Pope Francis said God is not concerned with details. Well, there are many “details” in His Word that He does expect us to listen to and follow.

Consider also that the ecumenical and interfaith movements that the Vatican and many other religious leaders are promoting are clearly condemned by the Bible and should not be encouraged:

3 … contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. (Jude 3)

17 “Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6:17)

Early Christian leaders did NOT seek unity wtih those who were heretical or not Christians–instead they denounced those views (see Continuing History of the Church of God).

Details do matter.

Jesus taught:

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. (John 4:24)

17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (John 17:17)

The truth is that the type of unity the Roman pontiff is promoting is not what real Christians would wish to be part of.

Is Metropolitan Nikolai correct that Pope Francis is pushing for a type of unity that the Antichrist will ultimately be part of?

Sadly, yes, it appears so.

The Beast and the Antichrist will be factors in getting much of a unified world to fight against Jesus when He returns:

19:6 And I heard what seemed to be the voices of a huge crowd, like the sound of the ocean or the great roar of thunder, answering, ‘Alleluia! The reign of the Lord our God Almighty has begun;… 19 Then I saw the beast, with all the kings of the earth and their armies, gathered together to fight the Rider and his army. 20 But the beast was taken prisoner, together with the false prophet who had worked miracles on the beast’s behalf and by them had deceived those who had accepted branding with the mark of the beast and those who had worshipped his statue. These two were hurled alive into the fiery lake of burning sulphur. 21 All the rest were killed by the sword of the Rider, which came out of his mouth, and all the birds glutted themselves with their flesh… 20:4 Then I saw thrones, where they took their seats, and on them was conferred the power to give judgement. I saw the souls of all who had been beheaded for having witnessed for Jesus and for having preached God’s word, and those who refused to worship the beast or his statue and would not accept the brandmark on their foreheads or hands; they came to life, and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. (Revelation 19:6,19-21; 20:4, NJB)

Notice that Jesus will have to destroy a world of armies unified against Him. Then He and the saints will reign. That is when there will be proper unity of the faith. Even the NJB, a Roman Catholic translation of the Bible, concurs. The nations will be united AGAINST Jesus.

Pope Francis often seems to be promoting that type of unity. And Metropolitan Nikolai is right that light cannot be part of darkness and that Pope Francis seems to be aligned with the Antichrist agenda.

Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants, Muslims, and others need to be concerned about the type of unity that is actually being promoted and what the ecumenical and interfaith agendas are really about.
