US President Donald Trump announced a deal related to Greenland and he asserts that there is no cost:

Actually, for at least two reasons, that is not the case.
First of all, any expansion of the US military in Greenland does have financial costs.
Secondly, one of the unintended consequence of how Donald Trump has threatened and handled this matter has riled not only those in Greenland and Denmark, but also in Europe and elsewhere.

A revised defence pact with Denmark and Greenland is a modest improvement, but annexation threats were a costly blunder
THE ARCTIC is a safer place for America and its allies today. Due credit must go to President Donald Trump, a self-styled man of peace. He has, after all, lifted the shadow of imminent invasion from Greenland, the vast and hard-to-defend island that guards NATO’s high north. In the longer term a new defence agreement announced by the Trump administration, Denmark and Greenland on September 18th represents a modest advance on previous treaties. As the first article headline suggests, the US really did not gain much, if anything, it already did not essentially have.
As the second article’s headline states, damage has been done.
Donald Trump’s threats and pressures have STRONGLY upset the Europeans and many others related to this. And basically for nothing.
The US could have negotiated new terms with Denmark without the bullying rhetoric.
Just because Donald Trump brags about this, there are real costs for how he and his Administration went about it.
These have been and will be more unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s statements and policies.

Donald Trump’s foreign policy statements have unsettled many—in the USA as well as foreign nations. He is believed by many to be more unpredictable than Richard Nixon. Many have rightly pointed out that he often acts as a bully.
Greenland
There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the USA, Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.
Consider, for one example, that after his reelection, Donald Trump stated that the United States needed to have Greenland for defense and economic purposes. Not only did that offend the governments of Denmark and Greenland, the Danish government then announced that it would greatly increase the amount of money it would spend on the defense of Greenland.[i]
On January 7, 2025, Donald Trump refused to rule out military or economic actions to acquire Greenland.[ii] The next day, European leaders warned they would not tolerate an attack on Greenland and that the continent of Europe was strong.[iii] …
The Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2)—some statements by Donald Trump are pushing “friends” (NATO allies) into being enemies. …
The USA will be attacked by “friends” consistent with the following:
1 How lonely sits the city
That was full of people!How like a widow is she,
Who was great among the nations!The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!
2 She weeps bitterly in the night,
Her tears are on her cheeks;
Among all her lovers
She has none to comfort her.All her friends have dealt treacherously with her;
They have become her enemies. cf. Lamentations 1:1-2).Notice the one who was “great among the nations” will be conquered by friends, who will become enemies.
The USA was prophesied to be “great” in Genesis 48:19 and is considered by international sources to be great among the nations of the world today.[v]

Yes, the Bible teaches about a great power who will be destroyed by its friends, who become enemies (Lamentations 1:1-2). Donald Trump offending the Europeans is leading to that.
