Hamas attacks and Netanyahu says, ‘We are at war’

Hamas launched an attack from Gaza into Israel, today, which is a biblical and Jewish holy day:

October 7, 2023

The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea, catching the country off guard on a major holiday.

Several hours after the invasion began, Hamas militants were still fighting gunbattles inside several Israeli communities in a surprising show of strength that shook the country. Israel’s national rescue service said at least 22 people have been killed and hundreds wounded, making it the deadliest attack in Israel in years.

At least 561 wounded people were being treated in Israeli hospitals, including at least 77 who were in critical condition, …

“We are at war,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised address, declaring a mass army mobilization. “Not an ‘operation,’ not a ‘round,’ but at war.”

“The enemy will pay an unprecedented price,” he added, promising that Israel would “return fire of a magnitude that the enemy has not known.” https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-gaza-hamas-rockets-airstrikes-tel-aviv-11fb98655c256d54ecb5329284fc37d2

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad said its fighters have joined Hamas militants in shock attack on Israel.

Multiple reports have suggested Hamas is actively kidnapping soldiers of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and parading them as captives on military trucks.

In response to the attacks, the IDF has announced a large-scale operation called “Swords of Iron” to defend its citizens.

Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant has also authorised mobilisation of military reservists in a bid to fight back against the dawn raid. https://www.the-sun.com/news/9272531/death-thousands-rockets-fired-israel/

The Palestinians are mad, but as the tweet at the beginning of this post indicates, the Gaza leadership seems happy about this attack.

Yet, notice that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is basically saying that Israel expects to take strong military action–war–not just a minor retaliation–against this.

If so, this may upset the Syrians and Iranians and get them to also publicly attack.

The Iranians may already be involved:

Hamas said it fired 5,000 rockets at targets across Israel, including Tel Aviv, while dozens of gunmen from the group infiltrated across the border to conduct attacks. …

Republican Senator Ted Cruz released a statement accusing “Iran-controlled Hamas terrorists” of launching “a literal war against Israel.”

Kari Lake, a prominent, Donald Trump-supporting Republican who is expected to run for an Arizona Senate seat, posted: “Hamas Terrorists have launched war against Israel.” https://www.newsweek.com/us-embassy-israel-issues-warning-ted-cruz-condemns-atrocities-1832831

A strong Israeli response may upset the world if its response is considered to be some type of “war crime.”

Interestingly, notice the following Roman Catholic writings:

Abbot Herman of Lehnin (died 1300) Towards the end of the world “Israel will commit a terrible crime for which it will suffer death.” (Culleton, R. Gerald.  The Prophets and Our Times. Nihil Obstat: L. Arvin.  Imprimatur: Philip G. Scher, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno, November 15, 1941.  Reprint 1974, TAN Books, Rockford (IL), p. 151)

Roman Catholic priest and writer R. Gerald Culleton (20th century): Towards the end of the world the Jews are to commit some atrocious crime for which they will be greatly persecuted…the Great Monarch…This Lion Monarch… together with the Great Pope or Angelic Pastor, shall appear after socialism…(Culleton R. Gerald. The Reign of Antichrist, Reprint TAN Books, Rockford, IL, 1974 pp. 25,27,28,50)

Perhaps “after socialism” may mean after communism falls, like it mainly did in the late 20th century.

Today’s statements from Benjamin Netanyahu, if carried out as he implied, could turn more of the world against Israel and/or possibly get the Syrians and Iranians to cause great damage to Jerusalem per Isaiah 22:6-9.

The reality is that the Palestinians have been outraged by the demolition of homes and Israeli positions on Jerusalem and other territories.

Hamas called for “an intifada that must not stop” in the past which is essentially a call for violence until Hamas accomplishes its objectives.

Notice something from one of Hamas’ official founding documents:

THE COVENANT OF THE HAMAS – MAIN POINTS . . .

Goals of the HAMAS:
——————
‘The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine.’ (Article 6)

On the Destruction of Israel:
—————————–
‘Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.’ (Preamble)

Hamas wants Israel gone, but that does not mean that it will not be open to some type of timed withdrawal or peace deal.

Israel has a major confidence in its military prowess.

Yet, one day, the nation of Israel will lose territory (for details, see the prophecies in the article Gaza and the Palestinians in Bible Prophecy).

The entire 47th chapter of Jeremiah is a prophecy involving the Philistines, including Gaza–notice also that Ashekelon is mentioned:

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

2 Thus says the Lord: “Behold, waters rise out of the north, And shall be an overflowing flood; They shall overflow the land and all that is in it, The city and those who dwell within; Then the men shall cry, And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail. 3 At the noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses, At the rushing of his chariots, At the rumbling of his wheels, The fathers will not look back for their children, Lacking courage, 4 Because of the day that comes to plunder all the Philistines, To cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains; For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines, The remnant of the country of Caphtor. 5 Baldness has come upon Gaza, Ashkelon is cut off With the remnant of their valley. How long will you cut yourself? 6 “O you sword of the Lord, How long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard, Rest and be still! 7 How can it be quiet, Seeing the Lord has given it a charge Against Ashkelon and against the seashore? There He has appointed it.” (Jeremiah 47:1-7)

Problems were thus prophesied for the Palestianians including those of Gaza–since there is a duality to some prophecies (e.g. Malachi 4:5 & Matthew 17:10-13), this looks to have future application. It should be noted that Ashkelon is currently part of Israel, Hamas recently targeted it, and the Palestinians will either control it again or be so numerous in it that they are affected.

Ultimately in this age, Jerusalem will not be the ‘undivided’ capital of Israel (cf. Daniel 11:31) like former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted. Furthermore, the nation of Israel will lose territory to the Palestinians.

Egypt warned of “grave consequences” from an escalation in tensions between Israel and the Palestinians in a statement from the foreign ministry carried by the state news agency.

It called for “exercising maximum restraint and avoiding exposing civilians to further danger”.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri also held a call with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell to discuss developments, stating that both sides should exercise restraint to avoid serious risks. …

The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah issued a statement saying it was closely following the situation in Gaza and was in “direct contact with the leadership of the Palestinian resistance”.

Following events involving Gaza fighters who fired a barrage of rockets into Israel, the statement added that it was a “decisive response to Israel’s continued occupation and a message to those seeking normalisation with Israel”. …

An adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei said that Iran supported the Palestinians’ attack, the semi-official ISNA news site reported.

“We congratulate the Palestinian fighters,” it quoted adviser Rahim Safavi as saying. “We will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.” …

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that the Palestinian people have the right to defend themselves against the “terror of settlers and occupation troops”, the official news agency WAFA quoted him as saying. …

Qatar’s foreign ministry issued a statement saying Israel alone was responsible for the ongoing escalation of violence with the Palestinian people.

It called on both sides to exercise utmost restraint and calls on the international community to prevent Israel from using these events as an excuse to launch a disproportionate war against Palestinian civilians in Gaza. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/7/we-are-at-war-reactions-to-palestinian-hamas-surprise-attack-in-israel

Note that Egypt wants Europe to get involved and Iran favors the attack. Let me add that various reports suggest that Israel has already killed about 9 times as many in Gaza than were initially reported as killed in Israel–and Israel does not appear to be finished.

As I have long written, we are likely to see war or at least major violence in that region before the ‘peace deal’ of Daniel 9:27 is confirmed. What is happening now could lead to that (see the article The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Consider that Jesus warned:

7 For there will be an intifada of ethnic group against ethnic group, (Matthew 24:7, Orthodox Jewish Bible)

Hamas publicly had called for an intifada in Jerusalem that will not stop. Presumably, it is intended to stop when Hamas gets full control of Jerusalem. It has now launched more of a full-scale attack to presumably attempt to do so.

Contrary to past statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Jerusalem will NOT remain the “undivided capital of Israel.”

The situation will change.

The Palestinians will, for a time, accept a temporary peace deal according to the Bible.

Peace deals normally happen after major conflict.

Thus, it is probably safe to conclude that the acceptance by the Palestinians and the Israelis of the Daniel 9:27 deal is likely to come after an escalation of violent conflict in the Middle East–probably involving Iran (cf. Isaiah 22:6-9).

Expect violence to get worse in the future, before a temporal peace deal is somewhat accepted.
