Macarius & Early Apostolic Succession
Macarius of Edessa, according to the Byzantine encyclopia known as the Suda, founded a theological school that emphasized the literal understanding of scripture. This was established shortly after Nepos of Arsinoe wrote his ‘Refutation of the Allegorists.’ Makarius is believed to have trained Lucian at his school. Lucian later moved to Antioch and founded his literalist school. These leaders are believed to have preached a literal millennium and to hold to what is know as the binitarian or semi-arian view of the Godhead.

Richie White discusses gold in the Bible. He goes over many scriptures related to gold in the Old and New Testaments. He mentions that gold is frequently seen on people wearing jewelry of various types. Gold is a precious metal. The Bible warns against of making idols of gold. In the Hebrew scriptures, gold was used for offerings, making the Ark of the Covenant, and Solomon’s Temple. God is compared to gold in the Book of Job. God’s people are to be refined as gold. Prophecy shows that the King of the North will value gold and that gold will have value a few years after the Great Tribulation starts, but the time will come when people will toss away gold. The Bible warns of the deceitfulness of riches. Christians are to rely on God over physical wealth. Faith is more precious than gold. Gold is shown to be part of God’s Kingdom. Jesus will return wearing a crown of gold. Trials are a refining fire, similar symbolically to gold. We are to develop golden character. The true Church of God is compared to gold in the Book of Revelation.
