Times of India: ‘China to conduct world’s first gene editing trial on humans’

The Times of India reported the following:

BEIJING: Chinese scientists are set to perform the world’s first genetic editing trial on human beings this month. The idea behind using this controversial technique on cancer patients at a hospital in Chengdu city, is to find a cure for lung cancer, scientists said. …

Gene editing is disallowed in most countries because of fears that it can lead to dangerous consequences as scientists try to produce “designer babies” with extremely dangerous mental and behavioural traits.

What triggered me to post about this is that I saw an August 8, 2016 post at BBC’s site a few hours ago. But when I went back to it for this post, it was gone. So, I did a search there and elsewhere and only found the Times of India report–which has a lot of the same information that the later BBC post had.

That being said, do not think that China is necessarily acting “less moral” than the USA.

The USA itself is starting to allow experimentation that could some day provide data used by those who want to make genetically-modified babies (see Time: ‘Human-Animal Chimera Studies Are Now Allowed In the U.S.’).

Scientists often are motivated by greed, money, and ego, and thus will do what they think is in their best interest–irrespective of morality.

Science fiction entertainment, like the Japanese manga/comic strip Terraformas, has featured GMOs that were supposed to be part human. Sadly, now, the development of such creatures is getting closer.

The world, including the Chinese and the Americans (and the Brits, see Pig-Human GMOs proposed), are losing normal sensibilities, and moving into areas that are wrong.

When God created everything in Genesis 1, He said everything He made was good:

31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)

Notice how God made the creation:

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” (Genesis 1:20-22)

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:24-25)

Ultimately, GMO humans are about humans producing the creation in their own distorted image and stopping life from reproducing after its own kind. This clearly violates Genesis 1:22. But that is what is the likely result of some of this GMO-human research.

Genetic manipulation of human beings is not what humanity needs.

The world needs repentance and the Kingdom of God. Genetically-modifying humans will not save humanity. Only Jesus can do that.
