Bangladesh Buys Gold

The 220 kg Gold brick displayed in Taiwan

The relatively impoverished nation of Bangladesh, a country which had a per capita GDP in 2009 of only $654, just purchased gold from the IMF:

Bangladesh has became the latest nation to increase its official reserves of gold, buying 10 tonnes of bullion – worth about $400m – from the International Monetary Fund…It followed similar buying by India and Sri Lanka…

Analysts said that Russia and the Philippines had bought large amounts of gold this year from local miners, boosting their officials reserves. In the past two years, China and Saudi Arabia have also reported large increases in their official bullion holding…(Blas J.  Financial Times, September 10 2010. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/076b19ea-bcbe-11df-89ef-00144feab49a.html?ftcamp=rss)

The non-Western nations of the world are getting more and more concerned about the stability of paper money and several have been buying gold.

And while the amount of gold that Bangladesh purchased was not high by international standards, the fact that it did buy it suggests that it, like many other nations, has long-term concerns about currencies like the USA dollar.

And while the Bible is clear that gold will be worthless for a time, it is also clear that it will have value into the Great Tribulation (Daniel 11:40-43; Revelation 18)–which means it will have value longer than the USA dollar will.  Now this does not mean that gold could not drop in price relative to the USA dollar, as there will be ups and downs.  But it does mean that the more nations that decide they value gold, the less likely they are to value the USA dollar.

The world is slowly taking steps to try to reduce some of its exposure to the USA dollar.  Even including nations like Bangladesh.

Canadian Trade Deficit Hits Record High

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Parliament Hill, Ottawa, Canada

COGwriter

While Canada’s economy has seemingly fared better than the USA’s lately, there are major indications of problems there:

OTTAWA — The trade deficit shot higher in July as exports fell and imports hit a two-year high, Statistics Canada said Thursday.

The trade deficit rose to 2.7 billion dollars (2.6 billion US) — more than three times the level expected by analysts of 800 million dollars, following an upwardly revised deficit of 1.8 billion dollars in June. (APF, 9 September 2010.  http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hsxn3AxsCjnEa995VsLad56rtKxg)

TORONTO, Sept 9 (Reuters) – Canada had a record high monthly trade deficit in July and the housing market stalled, data released on Thursday showed, signaling sputtering economic growth as the third quarter got under way.

The weaker data came a day after the Bank of Canada raised its key interest rate by a quarter point for a third straight time this year, bringing the rate to 1 percent, but also cautioned that a weak U.S. economy would hamper Canada’s recovery.  (Reuters, Sep 9, 2010. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN0918060020100909)

Canada’s trade deficit widened more than expected in July as exports to the United States sankbecause of anemic demand while overall imports surged to their highest level since November 2008.

The shortfall in July totaled C$2.74 billion ($2.66billion), Statistics Canada said on Thursday, more than triplethe deficit forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll of C$810million. (FoxBusiness, 9 September 2010.  http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2010/09/09/canada-july-trade-deficit-swells-exports-slide/)

Although Canada has a more export-oriented economy than the USA (which is a Canadian strength), prophetically and militarily it is tied to the USA and is expected to suffer essentially the same fate.

Which is?

Unless there is national repentance, it will ultimately be taken over and probably have its lands divided.

Because of military and political considerations, in several years, the King of the North might give Russia all or parts of Alaska as well as possibly parts of Canada, as well as some people from those lands.

Canada has raised interest rates three times since June 2010 (the last time was yesterday).  Eventually, a rise in interest rates will massively and negatively affect the USA–though little has happened because of this yet.

The USA itself had a reduction in its trade deficit for July, but a reduction in deficit is not the same as a surplus.  It simply means that the USA decreased the rate of its fall–and increased the amount of money/goods/services that it owes foreign nations.

The reality is that the economies of the Anglo-nations will have ups and downs until they finally collapse (cf. Habakkuk 2:3-8) and are taken over (Daniel 11:39).

Three articles of potentially-related interest may include:

White Horseman Related to “Antichrist”

COGwriter

The Book of Revelation tells of a time that the first seal will be opened by Jesus.  Notice what happens:

1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. (Revelation 6:1-2)

In 1976, the old WCG taught:

In the book of Revelation we find a disturbing vision of four fearsome horsemen (Rev. 6:1-8).  Each of these horsemen is a symbol of the four major punishments to be inflicted upon a rebellious mankind — probably in the not-too-distant future! (Ritter G. The First Horse, False Religion.  WCG booklet, 1976).

LCG’s Dr. Meredith taught:

Rome’s constant promotion of the ecumenical movement—encouraging her wayward daughters to “come home”— will also resonate with increasing urgency throughout Europe and even here in North America. It is time for all Bible-believing Christians to WAKE UP! A MASSIVE religious/political union is now in the making in Europe.(Meredith RC. Is the —Beast— Awakening?, Tomorrow’s World, Sep-Oct 2000)

The relentless pressure of the ecumenical movement will also intensify.

The Great Mother Church will be calling with increasing fervor for her daughters to come “home.”  Within the next several years, the “second” Beast of Revelation 13 will appear on the scene. We read of this man in Revelation 13:11–14: “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.”  This coming powerful religious leader will look like a “lamb.” In Revelation 14 we see that Christ is described as the “Lamb.” So this coming religious leader will appear to be like Christ! But, John writes, he “spoke like a dragon.” (Meredith RC. Who or What Is—The Antichrist? LCG booklet, March 2008)

even many evangelical Christians—and their ministers—will eventually be caught up in the euphoria of this powerful Babylonish system! For it will be part of the “ecumenical movement.” It will seem like “the thing to do.”(Meredith RC.  The Two Babylons.  Tomorrow’s World, May-June 2004)

LCG’s Richard Ames taught:

Some commentaries wrongly interpret the first seal to mean that Christianity will evangelize the world and conquer it spiritually. But when we examine Christ’s words in Matthew, we come to a very different conclusion. Jesus warns his followers: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4). Compare this to Revelation 6 and we can see that the first horse and its rider represent FALSE Christs and FALSE religion.  (Ames R.  Mystery of Revelation. Tomorrow’s World, Jul-Sep 1999).

LCG’s Dr. Winnail taught:

The Roman Church is leading an “ecumenical” drive to bring all professing-Christian churches together under one umbrella, even though it has made clear that it considers itself the one true Church (see Isaiah 47:1–8). The Roman Church is promoting a united Europe, in which it can regain the prominent role it played in the “Holy Roman Empire.”…

The history of medieval Europe sheds light on how a deceptive and militant false form of Christianity will operate when the first horseman of the Apocalypse begins his ride. We are watching these prophecies come alive today! (Winnail D. The Mysterious First Horseman.  Tomorrow’s World, Nov-Dec 2004)

Two of the most significant events in the last 2,000 years of religious history were the Great Schism and the Reformation. In 1054ad, church leaders in Rome and Constantinople mutually excommunicated each other over doctrinal differences, creating the Great Schism that has separated the western Roman Catholic Church from the Eastern Orthodox Church for almost a thousand years. The 15th century saw the birth of the Protestant Reformation… Many ecumenically minded church leaders believe that the Holy Spirit is leading them toward greater unity. (Winnail D.  A Return to Rome?  Tomorrow’s World, Nov-Dec 2008).

There have been many interesting ecumenical developments since the Feast of Trumpets in 2009.

In September 2009, the Eastern Orthodox held a significant pan-Orthodox conference; working towards unity was one of the objectives (World Council of Churches Inter-Orthodox Preparatory Consultation Towards the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation (IEPC) Leros, Greece. 15-22 September 2009).   By itself, the meeting does not seem like too much, but it was partially in response to the World Council of Churches and later Orthodox developments suggest that it might have been important.

On October 15, 2009, the Vatican’s then top ecumenical official reported:

The official dialogue between the Catholic Church and the mainline Protestant Churches — Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed and Methodist — is entering a new phase, says the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.  Cardinal Walter Kasper pointed this out Thursday during a press conference at the Vatican…(Cardinal Kasper on 40 Years of Dialogue Says Catholic-Protestant Relations Entering New Phase. Zenit, October 16, 2009)

Notice this was called “a new phase” in the official dialogue, suggesting that major changes were occurring.   On the next day, the Vatican and the Orthodox began a new round of ecumenical negotiations.

The eleventh meeting of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church took place in Paphos, Cyprus, a city with a rich history, having received three Apostles, Paul, Barnabas and Mark. The meeting took place from 16-23 October 2009…The Orthodox meeting discussed among other things the negative reactions to the Dialogue by certain Orthodox circles, and unanimously considered them as totally unfounded and unacceptable, providing false and misleading information. (Comminique. JOINT INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH  AND THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. 11TH PLENARY SESSION.Paphos, Cyprus, 16-23 October 2009.  Paphos, Cyprus, 22 October 2009.  http://www.ec-patr.org/docdisplay.php?lang=en&id=1124&tla=en).

The International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church has progressed in its reflection on the role of the bishop of Rome. The meeting was attended by 20 Catholic members; all Orthodox Churches were represented, with the exception of the Patriarchate of Bulgaria. The commission worked under the guidance of two co-presidents: the Catholic representative was Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; and the Orthodox representative was Metropolitan Ioannis Zizioulas of Pergamum. (Orthodox-Catholic Commission Studies Primacy of Peter Concludes 11th Plenary Session in Paphos. Zenit, October 23, 2009)

As reported here previously, I personally was told when I was in Istanbul in May of 2008 at the office of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, that the Vatican stated that it would compromise doctrine to attain unity with the Orthodox.  The Vatican basically wants the Orthodox to bend on the primacy of Peter/Rome issue, as it is willing change on most of the rest of the doctrinal differences.  So, it is interestingly that both groups had a major meeting on the “primacy of Peter” subject.

On October 20, 2009, the Vatican announced that it would amend its constitution to allow for the change to allow the Anglicans to be in communion with Rome–without the Anglicans really having to do much of anything.   Obviously, the decision was made prior to this formal announcement.  The timing of this seems to have been meant to send a signal to the Eastern Orthodox that if they want something like was offered to the Anglicans, Rome would also offer them unity while allowing their priests to be married, and without changes to their liturgy.

This decision to amend the Vatican’s constitution to allow for the Anglicans would have involved many Catholic leaders, and one of them might become the False Prophet (the final Antichrist).  This Vatican announcement allowed married Anglican priests to remain married and still be part of the clergy.  This is something that the Eastern Orthodox would also likely insist upon to end its “schism” with Rome.

Interestingly, even the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill started to sound “ecumenical” in later 2009.  Yet, then Metropolitan Kirill was so opposed to unity with the Vatican, that a few days prior to his election to his current post in January 2009, he publicly stated “there is no room for compromise” with the Vatican.  However, by mid-November 2009, he apparently changed his mind (Cooper R.  Russian Orthodox and Catholic church may end 950-year rift.  Telegraph, November 13, 2009).

In February 2010,  leaders of the Ecumenical Lutherans had a:

“2010 Ecumenical Journey,” and…visited Anglican, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic world leaders…In its 22-year history, the ELCA has established full communion relationships with the Episcopal Church, the Moravian Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Reformed Church in America, the United Church of Christ, and most recently the United Methodist Church.  (ELCA Delegation, Roman Catholic Ecumenists, Discuss Future Vision.  ECLA News Service, February 14, 2010)

The Lutheran leaders met with the Vatican and others in that “ecumenical journey”.

Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople (who has a certain primacy among the “sees” of the Eastern Orthodox) even came out in an encyclical and publicly warned against those who would oppose Vatican-Orthodox unity in late February 2010 (Patriarch of Constantinople’s new encyclical defends Catholic-Orthodox dialogue.  Catholic News Agency, February 20, 2010).

In May 2010, a meeting between the leaders of the somewhat estranged Eastern and Russian Orthodox (Kishkovsky S.  Orthodox leaders meet to heal a rift.  New York Times, May 24, 1010.).  The top two leaders of this group, however, have long had a personal working relationship, prior to being elevated to their current positions (Lipich O.  The visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Russia is intended to strengthen intra-Orthodox ties.  Voice of Russia, May 22, 2010).  Ecumenism is blooming amongst the Orthodox (though there will likely be some problems).

Behind the scenes in early February 2010, a Catholic Bishop from the German-speaking portion of Switzerland, by the name of Kurt Koch, privately accepted Pope Benedict XVI’s offer to be president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.  This was not publicly announced until July 1, 2010.

Zenit (a pro-Vatican news agency) reported two different, but interesting, but perhaps related, ecumenical items a little while ago:

Benedict XVI says that dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox is at a “crucial point” and invited heartfelt prayer to the Holy Spirit for progress to continue.  The Pope said this today when he addressed members of a delegation from Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I… Benedict XVI highlighted the work of the Orthodox-Catholic mixed commission, saying it “is at a crucial point, having begun last October in Paphos…” (Pope Praises Orthodox Commitment to Unity.  Zenit, June 28, 2010).

Bishop Kurt Koch of Basel, Switzerland, has been appointed to succeed Cardinal Walter Kasper as the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

The announcement of Archbishop Koch’s appointment was made today, coming simultaneously with elevation to the dignity of archbishop…

The 60-year-old archbishop has already served on the pontifical council since 2002, as well as being a member of the International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. He also has formed part of the International Catholic-Lutheran Commission for Unity.  (Swiss Bishop Tapped for Unity Office.  Zenit, July 1, 2010.)

So, negotiations between the Vatican and the Eastern Orthodox were at a “crucial stage” a few weeks ago, and now a new Vatican leader for ecumenical matters has been installed.

Orthodox Metropolitan Hilarion, head of the department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, officially endorsed Archbishop Koch’s appointment in July 2010.  Mark S. Hanson (presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit (general secretary of the World Council of Churches), and others also did so as well in July.

About his appointment, Catholic Archbishop Kurt Koch himself stated:

The Holy Father told me in February, in a personal audience, his desire that I would begin to lead this council. It is a great joy for me because ecumenism has always been in my heart since in my country, Switzerland, Protestants are very close to us and I have also had a particular interest in the Orthodox Churches…

The Holy Father has done much. In the first homily after his election he said openly that ecumenism is a challenge that comes from Jesus Christ and that, at this time dialogue finds good foundations in the documents of the Second Vatican Council.

In pastoral journeys he has always dedicated a part to ecumenism. Let us consider for example the trip to England, which will take place in September. It won’t be easy because the Anglicans’ situation isn’t easy. It’s said that Benedict XVI wishes especially to foster ecumenical dialogue with the Orthodox. For me it is impressive.

The Holy Father has asked me to do this work and an element that he has stressed much is that he wants a bishop who knows the churches of the Reformation not only in books but by personal experience. This tells us how close the Holy Father is to the churches of the Reformation.  (Why a Swiss Bishop for the Unity Council.  Zenit, July 13, 2010.  http://www.zenit.org/article-29881?l=english)

Notice that Kurt Koch has his new position to get the Protestants (”the churches of the Reformation”) and the Eastern Orthodox to be part of an ecumenical deal (though he differs from Pontiff Benedict by calling the Protestant groups ”churches”).  This is ecumenical plan is consistent with biblical, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox prophecies.   And while he will likely have issues this month with many of the Anglicans in the UK, he and the pontiff plan to move ahead with their ecumenical agenda.

Almost amazingly the Catholics and Orthodox are being portrayed as “Europe’s Brothers”:

High-ranking representatives of the Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches embraced on Monday in a moment reflecting a will for unity between the two Churches.

A photo of the embrace between Cardinal Peter Erdo and Metropolitan Filaret was printed with the title “Europe’s Brothers.”

…The Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches are already united in their common stance on many issues affecting Europe…  (Catholic, Russian Orthodox Churches Embrace: Cardinal and Metropolitan Show Will for Unity at Rimini Meeting.  Zenit, August 24, 2010)

Thus, the idea of unity is becoming more and more public.

Perhaps I should state that the Eastern Orthodox have long believed that they will get the Vatican to change.  Notice what my “2012” book reports:

The Orthodox have long taught that the Church of Rome (known sometimes as Latins) will change doctrines to those of the Orthodox.  A document known as the Anonymou Prophecy of 1053 refers to this as the “Deferring of the Latins to the error-free faith of the Orthodox.”

Unity has long been both a Vatican and Eastern Orthodox goal.  However until recently, it seemed more of a longing than something anyone would try to resolve.  But now, that is changing.

The old WCG (Ritter G. The First Horse, False Religion.  WCG booklet, 1976) and the current LCG recognize that the four riders in Revelation 6 are in the same order as the first four events Jesus listed as part of the “beginning of sorrows” in Matthew 24.  Partially because of this, we understand that the rider of the first horse represents a deceiving religion that claims that Jesus is the Christ (e.g. Matthew 24:5; Revelation 6:3).  Since the Bible, in several places, suggests a world-encompassing religion (Isaiah 47:6-9; Revelation 13:3-4; 13:12-17; 17:17-18; cf. Daniel 11:37-39), some type of ecumenical meetings likely need to take place before “ecumenical unity” is attained.

From August 27-30 2010, a conference was held by the Pope with Kurt Koch the primary speaker:

L’Osservatore Romano reported that the main speaker for this year’s study weekend will be Archbishop Kurt Koch, the new president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity The Swiss prelate will give two lectures, one on “Vatican II Between Tradition and Innovation” and another on “Sacrosanctum concilium” and the reform of the liturgy…

The topic chosen is central to Benedict XVI’s pontificate. He has often indicated that the council was not a rupture with tradition, but a deepening of the Church’s 2,000-year history.

In his first address as Pope to the Roman Curia, he pointed to two opposing interpretations of the council, which Archbishop Koch will address in his first lecture.

The Holy Father said…”On the other, there is the ‘hermeneutic of reform,’ of renewal in the continuity of the one subject-Church which the Lord has given to us. She is a subject which increases in time and develops, yet always remaining the same, the one subject of the journeying People of God.”  (Ratzinger Students to Consider Vatican II.  Zenit, 26 August 2010.  http://www.zenit.org/article-30162?l=english).

Archbishop Koch’s intervention examined “The Second Vatican Council between tradition and innovation” and “Sacrosanctum concilium and the post-Conciliar reform of the liturgy.”  (Pope and Past Pupils Interpret Vatican II.  Vatican Radio.  31 August 2010.  http://www.oecumene.radiovaticana.org/en1/Articolo.asp?c=419039)

Based upon what Zenit reported from the Pontiff, it appears that the Vatican is coming up with ways to rationalize how to change yet claim to be “always remaining the same”.  This somewhat contradictory view is likely to be held by whoever becomes the final Antichrist (one who I believe will be an “antipope” in the sense that he will profess, but not truly believe, the Catholic religion).

Here is a report of a little of what Kurt Koch said (more details have been difficult to come by) in that conference:

Archbishop Koch told L’Osservatore Romano (LOR) on Wednesday that the meeting of the Pope’s former theology students was “a concrete, lively and positive experience.” He said that the participants’ conclusion after examining the reform of the Second Vatican Council over the weekend was that “(l)oyalty to tradition, openness to the future: is the most correct interpretation of Vatican II, which remains the magna carta of the Church also in the third millennium.”…

Although he shared few details of his audience with Benedict XVI on Monday morning, the archbishop did tell LOR that he and the Pope spoke about his “new ecumenical challenge because the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity is not independent (from the Pontiff) but it has a mandate from the Pope to see how dialogue may develop in the future.”  (Archbishop Koch pledges unity with Pope as he assumes new Vatican post. Vatican City, Sep 1, 2010. http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/archbishop-koch-pledges-unity-with-pope-as-he-assumes-new-vatican-post/)

The use of “Vatican II” (a major meeting of the Church of Rome which opened under Pope John XXIII on 11 October 1962 and closed under Pope Paul VI on 8 December 1965) to justify many things has raised questions for decades amongst those who consider themselves affiliated with the Church of Rome.  Many Catholics have questioned how the Vatican can claim to be the same while making changes.

Now, it appears that Vatican II will be part of the cover being used to promote unity with other faiths.

Ecumenical Council?

On February 21, 2010, after blasting critics of Roman Catholic-Eastern Orthodox unity as “fanatical”, Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople stated that:

“union between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches…is not decided by theological commissions but by Church Synods” (Bartholomew I. Patriarchal and Synodal Encyclical on the Sunday of Orthodoxy. Prot. No. 213, February 21, 2010. http://www.ec-patr.org/docdisplay.php?lang=en&id=1168&tla=en).  This is actually a hint that Bartholomew I expects an ecumenical synod, or what some in the Orthodox world have called the 8th synod or ecumenical council (the Orthodox accept seven councils as authoritative and ecumenical).

But he neglected to pointed out that theological commissions seem to be the vehicle that leads to synods.  And that he likely expects such a synod.  Interestingly, there is an old Orthodox prophecy and a Roman Catholic one, that Patriarch Bartholomew I should be aware of, which tells of a coming ecumenical synod/council:

Saint Nelios the Myrrh-Gusher (died 1592): During that time the Eighth and last Ecumenical Synod will take place, which will satisfy the contentions of the heretics…(Tzima Otto, Great Monarch and WWIII, Verenikia Press, Rock Hill (SC), 2000, p. 111)

Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (Born in the 17th century, in Germany): There will be an ecumenical council which will be the greatest of all councils.  By the grace of God, by the power of the Great Monarch, and by the authority of the Holy Pontiff, and by the union of the most devout princes, atheism and every heresy will be banished from the earth.  The Council will…be believed and accepted by everyone (Dupont, Yves. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1973, p. 40).

This “synod” should not be looked forward to, but feared.  By satisfying “heretics”, clearly this council compromises and changes the religion, which will be called “Catholic”.

A Catholic prophecy shows that after its church is changed (reformed below), the Orthodox will come back:

Roger Bacon (died 1294): There shall arise a…priest to reform the Church.  The Greeks will return (to the Church)…there will be one fold, one shepherd. (Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times, p. 149)

Also notice the following warning from a Catholic nun:

Anna-Katarina Emmerick (October 1, 1820): The Church is in great danger…The Protestant doctrine and that of the schismatic Greeks are to spread everywhere.  I now see that in this place (Rome) the (Catholic) Church is being so cleverly undermined, that there hardly remain a hundred or so priests who have not been deceived.  They all work for the destruction, even the clergy.  A great destruction is now at hand…

(April 22, 1823): I saw that many pastors allowed themselves to be taken up with ideas that were dangerous to the Church.  They were building a great, strange, and extravagant Church.  Everyone was admitted in it in order to be united and to have equal rights: Evangelicals, Catholics, sects of every description.  Such was to be the new Church (Dupont, pp. 66, 71).

Various events around the globe suggest that people of many faiths are getting to the point where they are likely to accept some type of ecumenical religion.

Notice carefully the following Catholic prophecy:

Frederick William Faber (died 1863):…Antichrist…Many believe in a demonical incarnation—this will not be so—but he will be utterly possessed…His doctrine as apparent contradiction of no religion, yet a new religion…He has an attending pontiff, so separating regal and prophetic office (Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, p. 87).

That prophecy, which is in a book with an official imprimatur from a Catholic bishop (as well as others), suggests that there soon may be a change to the “Catholic” religion that will make it the religion of the final Antichrist.

This change will not seem to be a contradiction, but it will be a new religion—like a new order within the Catholic religion.

All (Catholic or otherwise) should be careful, compare their teachings with the Bible, pray to God, and not accept doctrines that are unbiblical for the sake of this coming ecumenical unity.

Since the Feast of Trumpets in 2009, many steps have taken place which appear to be setting the stage for the long expected ecumenical religion.  And that seems to be an important event we should be watching for.  Since the Red Horseman of war is listed after the White Horseman in Revelation 6, ecumenical issues logically were expected to intensify.  Warring activity may increase as well relatively soon (Atonement) as much has happened on the ecumenical front already.

Those who wish to learn why the ecumenical discussions are dangerous may wish to read the following articles:

Blowing of a Shofar

COGwriter

Tom Roberts of CG7 Meridian (not to be confused with the vastly larger CG7-Denver) wrote the following:

In 1858, Gilbert Cramer from the Marion Party, founded eight churches which would ultimately become the Church of God Seventh Day. Out of this ministry arose the Remnant of Israel under the leadership of G. G. Rupert who definitely advocated the meaning of Holy Day observance. (“Remnant of Israel”, G. G. Rupert, Vol 10, No. 11, September, 1929) Some today are suggesting that G. G. Rupert was a delegate at the 1888 Seventh Day Adventist Conference which began the change of direction of the SDA Church from its founders with the departure of Wagner and Jones. This conference was very significant because its theme was “Righteousness by Faith” and was needed to free Sabbatarians from legalism. Unfortunately, as the years passed, many of the founding voices of Adventism who once gave support to the Seventh Month Movement were no longer influential. Ellen White even stated that the Adventist camp meetings should replicate the Feast of Tabernacles…

As the years progressed, Adventist scholars such N. L. Andreason, Raymond Cottrell, Ken Richards, Desmond Ford, and many others began to question the classical Adventist positions taught about the history of their beginnings and the direction the church was taking.  There were those who wanted to go back to the non-trinitarian, Holy Day, Kingdom of God on earth positions of the church.  Others such as Desmond Ford, wanted the church to move in an evangelical direction while some at La Sierra University have tried to place the church on a more progressive path.   Once again, the church is beginning to denounce all feast day keepers.  Angel Rodriguez, PhD, and others have denounced the entire feast day movement.  In spite of this, the ethos of feast day movements are still are behind the thinking of much of Seventh Day Adventist theology.  One such example is Leslie Hardinge’s In the Shadow of His Sacrifice.  He does an absolutely brilliant job of teaching Christianity the meaning of the Holy Days and the lessons that should impact their thinking about the Messiah.

Today there is a growing but small number of small groups of Adventist Holy Day Keepers who are attempting to resurrect the Seventh Month Movement in the Adventist Church.  Dr. John Vandenberg is leading the charge along with a few other scholars and pastors by showing the Seventh Month Movement should never have been buried in Adventist history but instead modified to exclude its theological errors.  It should have retained the spirit of Holy Day keeping in the worship and the life of the church.

Let us all pray and support this movement and fellowship with them as offer our love and service.

The reasons for the term “Seventh Month Movement” include the fact that the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar is called Tishri, the first day of it is the Feast of Trumpets (which is today), and all the Fall Holy Days occur in the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar.  Hence “Seventh Month Movement” connotes observance (to some degree) of the biblical Fall Holy Days.

There are some within the Seventh-day Adventist movement that endorse the holy days, but they are a minority.

The late SDA scholar Samuele Bacchiochi not only endorsed the biblical holy days late in his life, he also wrote books about them (which I purchased and read) explaining why he felt that they had biblical and historical support for their observances, as well as even some statements from Ellen White hinting that she supported their observance.

Every now and then, I hear from some associated with the SDA movement who recognize that doctrinal compromise has occurred within it and that they lean more towards Church of God doctrines in certain areas.

Feast of Trumpets and Return of Jesus Christ

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

A shofar made from the horn of a Greater kudu

An animal horn trumpet.

COGwriter

The Feast of Trumpets has arrived to much of the entire world by now, arriving at sunset on September 8, 2010.  We in the Living Church of God observe it.

Yet, most who profess Christ do not observe it.  Most consider that it is a “Jewish” holiday.  While the Jews do observe it (and refer to it as Rosh Hoshanah), it is a holy day that prophetically points to the end of this age and the return of Jesus Christ.

While most who profess Christ recognize that Jesus was the Passover lamb sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:7; John 1:29) and that the Holy Spirit was given on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-3), they seem to take the position that the rest of the biblical holy days do not have Christian applications.

That position is in error.

In the Hebrew scriptures, the Feast of Trumpets was a time for the blowing of trumpets (Leviticus 23:23-24).  Most prophecy watchers are familiar with the fact that trumpets are associated with end time prophecies, including the return of Jesus Christ:

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  (1 Corinthians 15:52)

1 When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. 3 Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4 And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. 5 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. 6 So the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. (Revelation 8:1-6)

30…and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other (Matthew 24:30-31).

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. 17 And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

And this is part of what the Feast of Trumpets pictures–the trumpet plagues and the return of Jesus Christ.  And it is a day to be observed by faithful Christians.

Build a Mosque? Burn a Q’uran? Blessed are the Peacemakers

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Cover of Koran/Quran

COGwriter

The mainstream media has had a lot of coverage related to what has been referred to as the proposed “ground zero mosque”.  Furthermore, in the past week or so a lot of attention had been directed towards a Florida Protestant pastor who intends to burn one or more copies of the Islam’s most important book, known as the Q’uran (which in English means recitation) on September 11, 2010.

Both the proposed builders of the “Islamic Community Center” (the ground zero mosque) and the proposed burner of the Q’uran claim that they have the right under the Constitution of the United States of America to do what they wish to do.

And both are correct.  Constitutionally, they both have that right.

Yet, wisdom suggests that perhaps they should reconsider–though at this instant neither side intends to back down.

The Mosque May Send a Statement of Islamic Conquest

Supporters of the proposed “Islamic Community Center” claim that this center will promote interfaith dialogue and help heal the rift between Islam and other faiths.  Opponents to claim that having this building so close to where the twin towers once stood is insensitive, dishonors the deaths of those that were killed in the 9/11/01 attacks, and will increase the rift between Islam and other faiths.

The proposed “Islamic Community Center” was originally intended to be called the Cordoba House, or “victory house”.  “This term refers to a mosque built atop the demolished site of a non-Islamic shrine in territory taken by Muslims in a holy war of conquest”  (http://dailycollegian.com/tag/911/).   Because the building that is supposed to be demolished to build this “Islamic Community Center” was partially damaged during the 9/11/01 attack, some have suggested that any type of mosque containing building at this site will be interpreted as a monument/statement of Islamic conquest.  Others have pointed out that one of the statements that is included in the Islamic call to prayer (which tends to come from all mosques up to 5 times per day) was the last statement that one or more of the terrorists who crashed the jet planes cried out before crashing–and that having that so near “ground zero” is insensitive and/or inflammatory.

Hence, some consider that the location is insensitive and indicates an intentional Islamic plan to inflame non-Muslims.  Although supporters of the mosque deny that, their actions suggest that they are not highly concerned about the feeling of the families and others affected by the attacks.

Furthermore, “Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of Ground Zero mosque says plan will move forward” despite the fact that he is aware that it has inflamed and upset many (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2010/09/08/2010-09-08_imam_feisal_abdul_rauf_of_ground_zero_mosque_says_plan_will_move_forward_in_oped.html?r=news/national#ixzz0ywoPdGji).  But it is not just those associated with Islam that have such tendencies.

Burning of Q’uran is Not the Way of Peace

A Florida pastor named Terry Jones (who seems to be some type of Protestant) has declared September 11, 2010 as “International Burn a Koran Day”.  I saw him interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night and he does not seem to care how his statements come across to the world.  In the interview, he also stated he would not back down on his plans to burn one or more copies of the Q’uran this Saturday evening.  He also made other statements that have been reported:

He has called the Quran an evil book and urged all Muslims to convert. “We are burning the book. We are not killing someone. We are not murdering people. We are not dragging people out of the cars, who are doctors, and killing them. We are simply burning a book. The General needs to point his finger to radical Islamists and tell them to shut up. Tell them to stop. Tell them that we will not bow our knees to them,” he said.

Jones added: “I wish all Muslims would get saved. I wish they would all convert to Christianity. Christianity is the one and only true religion. The Quran, in our opinion, is an evil book.”  (CNN, September 8, 2010. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/florida-pastor-firm-on-his-plan-to-burn-quran/130570-2.html?from=tn)

Now, as I wrote, he has the right under the US Constitution to burn the Q’uran.  In Islamic countries, various fanatics have had a variety of public burnings.  But do Christians “fight fire with fire”?  Water (symbolizing the love as a gift of the Holy Spirit, cf. Galatians 5:22) would seem to be the more Christian thing to do.

Perhaps I should mention that once certain pagans were converted in the New Testament, they did burn their own books (Acts 19:18-19).  This was apparently a sign of their repentance and to show that they did not intend to return to their previous beliefs.  But what is planned in Florida is not like that.  It is intended to be inflammatory.

When Anderson Cooper asked Terry Jones if he ever actually read the Q’uran (other than a few lines of it), Terry Jones said no.  This indicates to me that he, himself, was not converting from Islam to Christianity, nor burning the books to reduce his own tendency to return to those beliefs.  Thus, while legally allowed, I do not believe that this planned burning is a wise decision on Terry Jones’ part.

The burnings will unnecessarily inflame Muslims.  And while Terry Jones feels that he is standing up to Islam, the reality is that this will likely be one of the many reasons that Muslims will wish to make a deal  to destroy the USA (cf. Psalm 83).  This burning could even be a factor in the rise of a leader known as the Imam Mahdi who seems to be the same one as the King of the South (Daniel 11:27-40) that the Bible foretells.  Declaring September 11, 2010 “International  Burn a Koran Day” could be that inflammatory.

Blessed Are the Peacemakers–What Would Jesus Do?

While Jesus would not endorse the Q’uran, would He expect His followers at this time to intentionally enrage unbelievers in such a manner?

No.

Jesus taught:

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)

Neither the actions to build a mosque near ground zero nor having an “International Burn a Koran Day” seem suggestive of peacemakers.

Jesus, who Muslims also are suppose to consider to have been a prophet, also taught:

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,  45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven… (Matthew 5:43-45)

While the proposed mosque builders and Q’uran burners may have prayed for their enemies, their actions suggest that perhaps they really do not follow what has been called “the golden rule”:

31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. (Luke 6:31)

Would the proposed mosque builders want a cathedral near the site of some successful attack of the “crusaders”?  Would the expected Q’uran burners want Muslims around the world to burn as many Bibles as they could?

I do not think so.

Also, notice what the Apostle Paul taught:

19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.  (1 Corinthians 9:19-22)

This suggests, to me at least, that Paul was not encouraging Christian leaders to intentionally try to inflame those that they hoped to reach.

Perhaps Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and Pastor Terry Jones will consider what Jesus’ and Paul’s statements should mean for today.  Blessed are the peacemakers.  Both groups should ponder that.

China to Build Railroad To the Middle East

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Chinese Soldiers

COGwriter

A reader sent me an email today titled “CHINA building Railway towards Euphrates River”.  He also sent a news article with the following headline:

China to build $2bn railway for Iran
China is poised to sign a $2bn (£1.3bn) deal to build a railway line in Iran in the first step of a wider plan to tie the Middle East and Central Asia to Beijing.

The Bible tells of a time when the “kings of the East” will send a 200 million man army that will cross the Euphrates river:

14…”Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind. 16 Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them. (Revelation 9:14-16)

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared.  (Revelation 16:12)

Only Asian powers such as China could possibly field such an army, and it has only been in the last century or so that it would have been possible to have that many males in such an army.

And while such an army could theoretically walk from places like Korea and China to get there, it may be that many will be transported by other methods, including trains.

Thus, this new railroad to Iran may possibly be involved in supporting the fulfillment of end time prophecy.

Speaking of China, it has various problems still.  Here is something from the latest LCG World Ahead Weekly Update:

Flooding and Devastation. So far this year, more than 230 million people have been affected by flooding in China—that is equal to two thirds of the U.S. population or nearly half of Europe’s population! Also, more than 3,000 people have died in the flooding, resulting in $50 billion dollars in damage. The August floods alone claimed nearly 1,500 lives (ChinaDaily.com, September 1, 2010). In Pakistan, August floods affected one fifth of the nation and more than 20 million people—equivalent to Australia’s population! Five thousand miles of roads and railway have been washed away, along with 7,000 schools and 400 health care centers. Rescue workers have been forced to destroy roads and railroads in order to divert flood waters away from towns and villages. So far, the damage has exceeded the total aid given to Pakistan for the past five years (New York Times-Global Edition, August 24, 2010). Bible prophecy specifically warns that various kinds of natural disasters will increase in frequency and intensity as the end of the age approaches (Matthew 24:7; Mark 13:8). The disastrous flooding in China and Pakistan certainly fits these prophecies. The U.S. and other nations have invested billions of dollars in Pakistan, only to see much of it literally washed away in the floods. These catastrophes may be one more way the U.S. and other Israelite-descended nations will be brought low–by giving their resources to help others in need. Sadly, the “god of this age”—Satan the devil—is angry and relishes the sufferings of human beings made in the image of God. God speed the day of Satan’s removal from the face of the earth (Revelation 20:1-3)!

Pakistan, of course, is in a bad way and those people in areas hit by disasters can use our prayers.

Julia Gillard Remains PM of Australia

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Julia Gillard

COGwriter

Two and one-half weeks after its election, it seems that Australia’s Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will keep her job:

Australia’s Julia Gillard forms new government on shaky ground

Australia’s Julia Gillard barely squeaked into power. But her slim majority means that passing any legislation will be tricky. (Christian Science Monitor, September 7, 2010. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-Pacific/2010/0907/Australia-s-Julia-Gillard-forms-new-government-on-shaky-ground)

She originally began in that role on June 24th of this year.

Why might any of this be of prophetic interest?

Because this partially fulfills a prophecy in Isaiah 3:12:

As for My people, children are their oppressors, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths…

Of course, women are influential in the English-speaking nations and it was not absolutely required that Australia would have a woman prime minister or that she will remain in power for very long.  But since this has happened it is at least a partial, but significant, fulfillment of that prophecy.

Both biblical and Roman Catholic prophecies indicate the destruction of the English-speaking peoples and it would seem that a major attack by the European Beast power will occur in the next 4-12 years.  And if any of those Anglo-descended nations are to have female leaders to fulfill Isaiah 3:12 (the UK had Margaret Thatcher as prime minister and the USA has Hillary Clinton is Secretary of State), they need to have them prior to this destruction as it will result in the end to their nations.

Certain biblical, Chinese, and other prophecies, mentioned in the Arroyo Grande, California published book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, discuss that how Australia itself may become taken over.

By virtue of her timing, Julia Gillard may inadvertently pursue policies that will lead to the fulfillment of various end time prophecies.  Her role as Australia’s new prime minister will have prophetic ramifications.

Fall Holy Day Season Begins Wednesday Evening

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

A shofar made from the horn of a Greater kudu

An animal horn trumpet.

COGwriter

The Fall holy day season is almost upon us. Wednesday at sunset begins the month of Tishri, and the first day of this month is observed by the Living Church of God as the Feast of Trumpets.

Jews also have an observation, but they normally use the term Rosh Hoshanah.

We in the Living Church of God believe that the holy days on the Old Testament all have applications for Christians in the New Testament.

There is partial agreement of this even amongst Catholic and Protestant theologians as they accept that Christ was the Passover lamb and that Christians are to be unleavened (which is what the Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 5:7). They also accept that God gave the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4).

These dates occur in the Spring.

However, many of Catholic and Protestant theologians seem to have a different view of the Fall holy days. And most fail to grasp the prophetic significance of them.

But all do realize that the New Testament is full of references to trumpets being blown.

We in the Living Church of God believe that two of the many things that the Feast of Trumpets pictures is the return of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of His people when the last trumpet is blown.

Notice the following scriptures:

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-18).

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed– 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed (1 Corinthians 15:50-52).

These verses will be fulfilled. And they reflect doctrines that the Christian observance of the Feast of Trumpets teaches.

Scotish Episicopals Change References to God

Monday, September 6th, 2010

COGwriter

Educated people sometimes ignore the obvious as the following somewhat suggests:

God no longer male, Scottish Episcopal Church rules
A new order of service produced by the Scottish Episcopal Church has caused controversy by removing masculine references to God.

The fact that Jesus was a man and called God “Father” makes the masculine references to the Godhead appropriate.  The Scottish Episcopal Church is being quite foolish.  It also has no authority or real basis to rule that God is not male.

(The Holy Spirit is another matter as the Hebrew references–Old Testament–are feminine and the Greek references–New Testament–are mainly neuter.)

The Bible is clear that the Father and the Son are both God.  And all people, even the educated, should realize that fathers and sons are males–they are part of the masculine gender.  The Godhead is currently best described with masculine terms as that is what the Bible clearly does.

The Bible warns about some of the “wise of this world”:

20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (1 Corinthians 1:20-21)

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools… (Romans 1:20-22)

Now, it is not just some Scots that have succumbed to the political correctness movement on this point (other apostates have done this in the relatively recent past), it is just that the Scottish Episcopal Church is the latest that I am aware of.

Discounting what the Bible actually says is becoming more and more “acceptable” amongst many who profess Christ.  But that is not the way to develop sound doctrine.
