Ireland elects Catherine Connolly as President, but there are fears on the streets because of migrant attacks

Ireland’s president for the next seven years is an independent lawmaker who has long spoken in support of Palestinians and has been vocal about her distrust of European Union policies.

Left-wing independent Catherine Connolly, 68, secured 63% of votes in a landslide election victory on Saturday, comfortably defeating her center-right rival, former Cabinet minister Heather Humphreys.

The politician won after Ireland’s left-leaning opposition parties, including Sinn Féin, united to back her, and she is expected to be a voice unafraid to challenge Ireland’s center-right government.

While Irish presidents hold a largely ceremonial role and do not have executive powers like shaping laws, they represent Ireland on the world stage and are often seen as a unifying voice on major issues. Connolly will succeed Michael D. Higgins, a popular president who has been vocal about the war in Gaza and NATO spending, among other things.

A 15-year-old Irish girl, Kaiden McKenna, an active boxer in her hometown of Castleblayney, delivered a moving speech against mass immigration earlier this week. In the video, she describes her fear of taking public transportation and simply going for a jog in her hometown — all due to rising immigration and the presence of migration centers in her area.

“As a young person, especially a young girl, I feel more unsafe now than ever…After a few scary encounters, I can’t even walk alone to the bus anymore,” says McKenna,

“I’m here to give my perspective on the IPAS centers and the unvetted (migrants) moving into our town,” she says.

Ireland is just getting angrier

There was something medieval about it, in the end: a horse-drawn cart charging into riot police; a man actually wielding a pitchfork. On Tuesday night, in a leafy exclave of West Dublin, thousands of protesters-turned-rioters clashed with police in an attempted advance on an asylum hotel. Men waved Irish tricolours, many were pepper-sprayed, women watched on and called the police traitors, chants of “get them out” were ambient. We are familiar with the scene by now.

The events leading up to the skirmish make it all seem inevitable. On Tuesday morning, a man in his twenties was charged – via an Arabic translator – in connection with the sexual assault of a ten-year-old girl. Mary Lou McDonald, leader of Sinn Féin, said he had been issued a deportation order earlier in the year, yet he remained in the Republic of Ireland. There had already been local opposition to the government’s decision to make the CityWest hotel for asylum seekers in the small town of Saggart. And so, this familiar convergence of factors tumbled into street violence. Perhaps it was always going to.

Think back to the clashes in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, in June – which were preceded by the court appearance of two 14-year-olds accused of sexual assault on a teenage girl, litigated through a Romanian interpreter. Or to the Bell Hotel protests in Epping, Essex – which were preceded by an asylum seeker charged (now convicted) with sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, days after arriving to the UK. https://www.newstatesman.com/international-politics/2025/10/ireland-is-just-getting-angrier

The latest attack spurred many nights of protests to take stronger actions against migrants.

Irrespective of the election of Catherine Connolly, many in Ireland are afraid and/or upset because of the migrant issues there.

Eventually, Ireland along with much of the rest of Europe, will reach a breaking point and change.

The Bible shows that Europe will reorganize and a certain strong leader will emerge:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The final European Beast leader, who is also known as the final King of the North, will ultimately promote his religion (Daniel 11:36-38; which will not be Islam, he will at first feign and claim a form of Roman Catholicism). He will make a deceptive deal with the leader of a confederation of peoples in North Africa and the Middle East (cf. Daniel 11:27; Psalm 83:3-8).

Islamic issues will be a factor in the rise of this Beast leader–the Bible shows that a European Beast leader will, after destroying the USA (Daniel 11:39), push against and overwhelm a power from the Middle East and North Africa (Daniel 11:40-43).

It should be noted that this Beast leader is NOT Russian (see also Is Russia the King of the North?). Despite claims from Protestant Joel Richardson, this Beast leader is NOT Islamic (see also Is There an Islamic Antichrist?).

Migrant issues will be one of the triggers to get Europe to ultimately reorganize as the Bible teaches it will in Revelation 17:12-13, Daniel 11:21-38, Daniel 2:41-43, and other passages.
