Hamas released all 20 living Israeli hostages on Monday morning as part of the Gaza peace deal brokered by the Trump administration.
Why it matters: The Israeli hostages, most of them civilians, were held in captivity in Gaza for more than two years. Finally, all of the hostages who survived are now free.
- The hostage release started shortly before President Trump landed in Israel, as part of a Middle East trip aimed at cementing his Gaza peace plan.
- Their release was a key Israeli and U.S. demand for ending the war.
Driving the news: Hamas had to release all 20 of the live hostages by Monday at noon local time, according to the agreement.
- The first group of seven hostages was released shortly after 8am local time. The hostages were transferred by Hamas to the Red Cross, which delivered them to Israeli forces inside Gaza.
- The other 13 hostages were released two hours later. Before the second group was released, Hamas militants connected them to their families in video calls and asked the families to send those calls to the Israeli press. https://www.axios.com/2025/10/13/israel-gaza-peace-deal-hostages-freed-hamas
Liberation from captivity is a good thing.
Jesus came to proclaim liberty:

And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

To comfort all who mourn, (Isaiah 61:1-2)
US President Donald Trump made comments about the release and his plan:
Trump hails end of ‘age of terror’ and says this is the ‘historic dawn’ of a new Middle East
Trump declares that the ceasefire agreement marks the end of Israel’s war on Gaza, as well as the end of the “age of terror and death”.
Speaking to the Knesset, the US president said:
This is not only the end of a war. This is the end of the age of terror and death and the beginning of the age of faith and hope and of God.
It’s the start of a grand concord and lasting harmony for Israel, and all the nations of what will soon be a truly magnificent region. I believe that, so strongly. This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East.
Yes, we are to have faith in God. And in His Bible it is prophesied:
10 “Because, indeed, because they have seduced My people, saying, ‘Peace!’ when there is no peace — and one builds a wall, and they plaster it with untempered mortar — 11 say to those who plaster it with untempered mortar, that it will fall. There will be flooding rain, and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it down. 12 Surely, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the mortar with which you plastered it?’” (Ezekiel 13:10-12)
Notice also the following prophecies:
5 They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. … 25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:5,25)
12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)
12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:12)
Terrors looks to involve at least some Palestinians, such as those who could be involved with groups like Hamas.
There are concerns about Hamas in this deal. I do not believe that all those associated with Hamas have renounced terrorism.
Consider that if prior to the 2023 attack, the Hamas leadership in Gaza wanted to simply live in peace, the focus of the government there would have been economic prosperity, investing in things like irrigation for agriculture and tourist infrastructure. Instead, Hamas ran the place and its focus was on trying to figure out how to eliminate Jews from Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank of the Jordan river. Its extensive production of tunnels, to cite one example, shows that civic community benefits were not its focus. Preparing for its 2023 attack, however, was.
It is great that hostages have been released. It is great that there looks to be a cessation of fighting.
But, no Donald Trump, the age of terror is not over. And no, this deal is not leading permanent peace in the Middle East.
Hamas is not gone.
Do not overestimate aspects of this peace deal.
