Cuba has been in the news.
Last January, US President Donald Trump pointed to a possible regime change in Cuba (see Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico: US military action in Venezuela is further evidence of the breakdown of the world order; Donald Trump suggests Mexico, Cuba and Colombia could be next).
The situation in Cuba appears to be worsening:
The US and Cuba intensify negotiations as the island’s collapse deepens
May 15, 2026
The day before the Boeing C-40B Clipper landed in Havana with an official delegation headed by CIA director John Ratcliffe, Cuban authorities had announced a new and catastrophic fuel shortage. “We have absolutely no fuel. We have no more reserves,” said Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy on Cuban television. On the day of the announcement, the island suffered blackouts — a constant problem in recent months —that in some parts of the island lasted up to 22 hours. The fuel supply crisis is also triggering serious problems in basic services such as hospitals and transportation. Cubans, increasingly at their breaking point, are staging protests with pot-banging demonstrations, by setting fire to the piles of garbage on the streets, and by throwing stones at gas stations that are out of service. Amid the collapse, the Castro regime’s repressive apparatus is one of the few things that remains standing. …
Since Trump targeted Cuba, right after the surgical strike on Caracas to take Venezuela President Nicolás Maduro by helicopter to a New York jail, there have been a series of often contradictory signals about the island’s future. While imposing a severe energy embargo, the U.S. president also sent signals of openness toward a possible diplomatic path. In March the U.S. allowed through a Russian tanker with 100,000 tons of crude oil, which only temporarily alleviated another critical shortage, yet at the same time Trump issued statements about “taking Cuba.” https://english.elpais.com/international/2026-05-15/the-us-and-cuba-intensify-negotiations-as-the-islands-collapse-deepens.html
The CIA official said Ratcliffe was there “to personally deliver President Trump’s message that the United States is prepared to seriously engage on economic and security issues, but only if Cuba makes fundamental changes.”…
The Trump administration has deployed a full-court press on the Cuban government, but Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with the Cuban government’s ability to maintain power, officials told NBC News in a report published Monday.
The Cuban government said in Thursday’s statement that the meetings were held because of a request by the U.S. government.
The State Department said in a statement Wednesday that the U.S. is prepared to give $100 million in “direct assistance to the Cuban people” — which Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, called a first.
But the State Department statement was critical of Cuba’s government and called it a “corrupt regime.”
The State Department said in the statement that it has offered “support for free and fast satellite internet and $100 million in direct humanitarian assistance.”
“The regime refuses to allow the United States to provide this assistance to the Cuban people, who are in desperate need of assistance due to the failures of Cuba’s corrupt regime,” it added in the statement. …
The U.S. has imposed an embargo and sanctions against Cuba that go back to the Cold War. Although U.S.-Cuba relations were restored in 2015, during the Obama administration, Trump reversed most of those measures in 2017.
In January, the U.S. military carried out a military operation in Venezuela and apprehended President Nicolás Maduro, dealing a major blow to Cuba’s ally.
Venezuela had supplied Cuba with critical oil used to power the country. Cuba’s energy minister, Vicente de la O Levy, told state media Wednesday that the island has run out of oil. 05/14/26 https://www.nbcnews.com/world/cuba/cia-director-ratcliffe-meets-cuban-officials-havana-rcna345214
Yes, Cuba is having a fuel shortage. It appears to be getting worse.
Leaders in Cuba have objected to the Trump Administration’s plans for Cuba this year:
Cuban president promises ‘impregnable resistance’ to any US attempt to control island
Many in Cuba are suffering. In addition to decades-long issues, the current situation of blackouts and lack of fuel have made matters worse.
Some in Europe decided to send aid in March (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/3/18/as-cuba-found-flotilla-leaves-italy-europe-divided-over-stance-on-crisis).
Furthermore, more aid to Cuba from Europe was pledged in April:
EU announces a further $2.3 million in humanitarian aid for Cuba
The European Commission has released a further 2 million euros ($2.3 million) in aid for Cuba, it said on Wednesday, to tackle what it described as worsening humanitarian conditions in the country.
The U.S. cut off Venezuelan oil exports to Cuba after toppling Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on January 3. This has resulted in an energy crisis in Cuba and blackouts across the country, whose population stands at 10 million. Cuban health officials say the crisis has for Cuban cancer patients, especially children. “The EU stands with the people of Cuba in their hour of need. After Hurricane Melissa, we were there. And today, we are stepping up again with €2 million in humanitarian aid to help deliver food and safe drinking water to those who need it most. In a country facing an energy crisis and growing shortages, this support will help keep life-saving aid flowing to up to two million people in need,” said Hadja Lahbib, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, in a statement. https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/eu-announces-further-23-million-humanitarian-aid-cuba-2026-04-01/
So, what will happen in Cuba?
In the short run, people there will continue to suffer.
As I posted here in January:
I have long warned that Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America would align with Europe. Statements and actions by the Trump Administration are likely getting more in those lands to consider that now. (Thiel B. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico: US military action in Venezuela is further evidence of the breakdown of the world order; Donald Trump suggests Mexico, Cuba and Colombia could be next. COGwriter, January 3, 2026)
Irrespective of what the Trump Administration hopes, ultimately Cuba, like basically the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean, will align with the coming European Beast power consistent with prophecies such as Ezekiel 27:12-24 and Revelation 18:3,12-13.
While there are arguments in Europe about what to do regarding Cuba, the fact of sending food and other aid will likely be remembered favorably by the Cubans.
A new world order is in the process of being formed.
It will not be nice, but according to biblical prophecies, it will be led by a European dictator until Jesus returns (Revelation 17:12-13).
