While the Iran war and related matters dominates much of the news, the European Union continues to work to increase trade with other lands, triggered in part by trade policies of the Trump Administration. Notice the following related to parts of Southeast Asia:

Trust in EU grows in Southeast Asia, but challenges remain

10 April 2026

Europe’s standing in Southeast Asia has improved over the past year, a regional survey released this week has found.

For the sixth consecutive year, the European Union emerged as the region’s most preferred “third party” to hedge against US-China rivalry, according to the latest State of Southeast Asia survey, an annual poll published by the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute.

Some 37.7% of respondents, up from 36.3% last year, said the EU is ASEAN’s preferred and trusted strategic partner.

The survey also found that 19.2% of respondents saw the EU as the main champion of the global free trade agenda, ahead of the United States, though still behind ASEAN itself and China.

According to the survey, 55.9% of respondents said they trusted the EU to “do the right thing” to contribute to global peace, security, prosperity and governance, up from 51.9% last year. Over the same period, distrust fell from 27.8% to 22.3%.

The EU is ASEAN’s third-largest trading partner, after the US and China, and the bloc’s second-largest source of foreign direct investment. …

The EU already has free trade agreements in force with Singapore and Vietnam and concluded negotiations last year on a major trade deal with Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy.

Brussels is also seeking to finalize agreements with the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand, viewing bilateral deals as building blocks toward an eventual region-to-region trade agreement with ASEAN. …

“Not only are the EU and ASEAN confronted with identical challenges, but they also share an interest in promoting international law and multilateralism,” said Alfred Gerstl, an expert on Indo-Pacific international relations.

“As the two strongest regional organizations in the world, they have a strong incentive to collaborate more closely to defend the rules-based order,” he told DW. https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/4/10/california-hospice-fraud-crackdown-expands-into-probe-on-patient-eligibility-1227

Let me add that the EU is the biggest trade partner with Africa and several months ago, they held a summit meeting in Angola in order to try to further increase trade with Africa.

In the meantime, Europe is planning on increasing trade with South America:

EU-MERCOSUR Agreement to provisionally apply from 1 May 2026

The European Commission has formally notified Mercosur countries of the European Union’s decision to proceed with the provisional application of the EU-Mercosur interim Trade Agreement (iTA).

The notification was made through a note verbale addressed to Paraguay, the legal custodian of Mercosur treaties, completing the final procedural requirement in line with the Council Decision of 9 January 2026.

As a result, the agreement is set to apply provisionally from 1 May 2026 between the European Union and those Mercosur countries that have completed their ratification procedures and notified the EU before the end of March. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay have already completed this process, while Paraguay has recently ratified the agreement and is expected to notify shortly. 03/27/26 https://eurometal.net/eu-mercosur-agreement-to-provisionally-apply-from-1-may-2026/

8 April 2026

In March, after decades of negotiations, the free trade agreement between Mercosur nations and the European Union (EU) was ratified by Paraguay, the last founding member of the Latin American bloc to give the green light to the deal. Already in its final stage, the document will be provisionally implemented in May, 2026, according to the European Commission.

The agreement is being hailed as an economic boon for both EU and Latin American nations. https://news.mongabay.com/2026/04/as-eu-mercosur-agreement-goes-into-effect-environmentalists-raise-red-flags/

While news reports point to 780 million people in the EU and Mercosur block, if you add the associated member countries, this is over 1 billion people.

Therefore, yes, the EU is making trade moves away from the USA.

It also made a major trade deal with India this year (see EU makes ‘mother of all deals’ with India–another step to become ‘Babylon the Great’ for trade?).

Regarding trade, now notice something from my free eBook titled Unintended Consequences and Donald Trump’s Presidency: Is Donald Trump Fulfilling Biblical, Islamic, Greco-Roman Catholic, Buddhist, and other America-Related Prophecies?:

Trade …

The morning after his reelection, I wrote:

… Europe will get more serious about trade deals with others internationally, such as being more motivated to approve the trade deal with the Mercosur block of South America. …

One of the unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs and other trade matters is that it is motivating nations he has threatened to look to trade more with each other.

Europe will get more serious about trade deals with others internationally …

  • Pushing tariffs and other policies that foreign nations do not like is contributing to other nations looking to bypass the USA dollar, as well as trade more with each other and less with the USA. This will further push various globalist’s moves forward without the USA. This is also helping set the stage for the coming European Babylonian Beast to dominate international trade.

Such moves are happening in Europe.

Notice also number 8 of my 26 items to prophetically watch in 2026:

8. Trade

Not all warfare is militaristic. There is also economic warfare.

This often involves trade.

The major use of sanctions, mainly pushed by the USA, has been continuing.

This is affecting trade and pushing trade away from the USA. … The EU will decide that Mexico and the rest of Latin America are in more agreement with it and thus make some type of serious trading agreement with most (or all) of Latin America.

These things are happening. Even the USDA noted: Mexico and the European Union are expected to sign the Modernized Global Agreement in 2026.

Notice also number 9 of my 26 items to prophetically watch in 2026:

9. European Trade Moves

And Europe?

Donald Trump’s tariffs, threats, etc. are a major concern for Europe and its trade.

In 2018, I wrote:

The Europeans have been working with Latin America, China, Russia’s Eurasian Union, and other areas of the world to try to set up its dominance of world trade as well as standards for world trade. (19 items to prophetically watch in 2019)

Such deals have been happening. But expect more concrete action, at least partially because of the reelection of Donald Trump, along with J.D. Vance.

Europe will reach out to various ones in Asia and Africa, as well as Latin America. In the next several years, deals and more trade will occur with Africa, Asia, Mexico, and South America.

Energy and climate change issues will affect trade in 2026. …

Expect more trade conflict between Europe and the USA.

The Bible shows that Europe will, for a time, dominate trade (cf. Revelation 17 and 18).

Europe will get more serious about trade deals with others internationally, such as being more motivated to approve the trade deal with the Mercosur block of South America.

That said, in 2026 Europe will work on getting more of the world to accept its standards and trading matters. This will help Europe ultimately dominate trade.

For a time, Babylon will dominate world trade:

2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” (Revelation 18:2-3).

While ‘Babylon’ will not fully reign in 2026, with the USA pulling out of trade deals and/or wishing to change them, steps are occurring that are pushing Europe to dominate trade (watch Trade Wars: Are COG warnings coming to pass?).

Expect Europe to reach out to various Gentile nations in Asia, Africa, South America, and elsewhere to make trade deals.

The final time of the Gentiles is approaching. We are seeing BRICS, the Global South, the EU, and others working on ways to trade and not have to deal with the descendants of Ephraim (UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) and Manasseh (the USA).

The Europeans will work with many nations to secure stronger trade agreements.

The Europeans are doing this, and Southeast Asia, India, Africa, and Latin America are all part of the Global South.

Properly understood biblical prophecies are coming to pass.

Related to European trade, we put together the following video:

While the world has been focused on Iran and related issues, the European Union has been busy working on trade deals all over the world. Southeast Asian nations now trust the EU the most, the EU is Africa’s biggest trading partner, the EU made a trade deal with India, the EU is planning on a trade deal with Mexico, and the EU is about to implement its deal with South American Mercosur nations. Is this prophesied? Will Europe emerge as the end time Babylonian beast power? Dr. Thiel and Steve Dupuie address these matters.

Some items of possibly related interest may include:

Trade Wars – and the Winner will be … US President Trump imposed tariffs on a global scale. Those tariffs were imposed on friend and foe alike. It seems as if President Trump is no respecter of nations. But how will this work out for the United States? Will these tariffs result in other nations drawing closer together that have had rather cold, and even not so cold, relations in the past? Will global tariffs result in trade wars? Were the events which are happening predicted by any in the Continuing Church of God? Is Europe drawing closer to China? Is Europe drawing closer to Latin and South America? With the exception of a few of America’s allies, is the net result of these tariffs a worldwide scramble to create new alliances and new trading partners to the exclusion of the United States? What will be the future result of these new alliances? Many of the nations that are now seeking new alliances were just recently America’s allies. They were her friends. Dr. Thiel brings to light the fate of America and her allies at the hands of her former friends, as revealed in the book of Lamentations. As we rapidly approach the end times listen in to this video as Dr. Thiel brings to light world events. Also listen as he shines the light of Bible prophecy directly on the questions raised from these world events.
