Iran vs. Donald Trump: Europe facing pressure

Iran is not pleased with various actions by the Trump Administration. In addition to claiming that the USA supported protests against the regime there (see Iran blames USA ‘Tweets’ for its protests and unrest), Iran is not pleased with a military move:

January 16, 2018

Iran has condemned the American plan to create a 30,000-strong force inside Syria to protect territory held by the Kurdish-Arab coalition that helped it oust the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) from most of northeastern Syria.

The U.S.-led coalition worked with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), made up of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia and Arab militiamen, to defeat ISIS in Raqqa.

Now, Washington is working with the SDF to create the force that would secure territory along the northern Syrian border in Turkey.

Every state actor involved in the Syrian conflict bar the U.S. has moved to denounce the plan.

“The U.S. announcement of a new border force in Syria is an obvious interference in the internal affairs of this country,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA. He said that all U.S. forces should leave the country.

“It is a clear intervention of [the] U.S. in internal affairs of other countries and makes [the] Syrian crisis more complicated, creates more instability and fans the flames in this country,” Qasemi added.

Russia too said that the U.S. move was unilateral and risked further conflict in the country ravaged by war between the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, moderate rebels and jihadi factions. http://www.newsweek.com/iran-says-trump-fanning-flames-war-new-syria-force-782069

But the bigger issue between Iran and Donald Trump has to do with the nuclear deal:

President Trump said it was the final waiver extending Iran nuclear deal. He did it with strings attached. The president’s demands include: immediate inspections at sites by international inspectors and “denying Iran paths to nuclear weapons forever” (instead of 10 years as stipulated under current law). New sanctions were issued against 14 people and entities involved with Iran’s ballistic missile programs and a crackdown on government protesters. The president wants the deal to cover Iran’s ballistic missile programs.

Restrictive measures were extended three times last year. And Donald Trump never certified the agreement. Senator Bob Corker, the current chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Relations, said “significant progress” had been made on bipartisan congressional legislation to address “flaws in the agreement without violating US commitments.”

According to President Trump, there are only two options: either the deal is fixed or the US pulls out. This time he wants to pass the buck, emphasizing that the decision to do it the last time is explained by his desire to secure the agreement of US European allies to fix what he calls “the terrible flaws” of the Joint Commission Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the Iran nuclear deal. Europeans have 120 days to define their position. From now on, Europe is facing a real hard choice: it’s either dancing to the US tune or being adamant in its support for the deal. The latter will bring it closer to Russia.

Germany said on Jan.12 that it remained committed to the deal and that it would consult with “European partners to find a common way forward”. The European Union remains committed to support the implementation of the JCPOA.

The US plan hardly has a chance of success. Even if Europe joins the US, which is not the case, at least for now, the introduction of any changes to the deal requires the consent of other participants: Russia, China and Iran. Tehran has taken a tough stance, flatly refusing any talks on changes.

Another element of US proposal is also a tall order. The president wants a separate follow-on deal on Iran with the EU “to enshrine triggers that the Iranian government could not exceed related to ballistic missiles.” The consent of other participants is not needed but a separate agreement will bury the JCPOA as the provisions of the two deals will contradict each other. Iran will have to pull out and it will not be its fault and responsibility.

A unilateral US withdrawal is the most feasible option. But it will provoke an international outcry. https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2018/01/15/us-urges-eu-fix-iran-deal-brussels-between-rock-and-hard-place.html

Iran wants the deal in place. Europe and Russia do as well.

Withdrawal by the Trump Administration would seemingly result in Europe and Russia being a bit closer, as well as result in additional US sanctions against Iran (and maybe some from Europe and other lands). Iran does not want sanctions.

Europe would prefer to get along with the USA, but its attitude towards Donald Trump may embolden it to resist the USA more than usual. One day, I believe Europe will make a deal with Russia, related to the taking over the land of the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39).

As far as the nuclear deal goes, it freed up billions of dollars worth of Iranian assets–which meant that Iran got access to its own assets. When that deal was finalized, I posted the following here nearly two years ago:

The lifting of sanctions deal will give Iran access to about 90-150 billion dollars of frozen assets that Iran can use again. Some of those assets will likely be used for its economy and Iran will likely rebuild parts of its military with the intent to use it offensively. (Thiel B. Iran pleased that sanctions have ended–so what is next for Iran? January 17, 2016)

On August 13, 2017, Iran’s parliament voted to spend more on missiles (see Iranian parliament votes to spend $520 million more on missiles and other military matters), which verifies my view of what Iran would do with some of the released funds.

Iran does have striking capabilities and those it opposes could be greatly damaged from emp, chemical, biological, nuclear, ballistic, and/or other weapons.

Because of the nuclear deal with Iran, many international sanctions were lifted and Iran got access to around 100 billion dollars worth of assets. Assets that it wants to use to rebuild its economy as well as destroy Israel and takeover the world. Iran simply does not have the financial and human assets needed to do all of that (though it may well destroy part of Jerusalem: cf. Isaiah 22:1-14). Yet, even though Iran will not become the leader of the final King of the South (a coalition of Islamic nations in the Middle East and North Africa; cf. Daniel 11:40-43), this will not stop it from possibly striking out at Israel, or even possibly the USA.

Regarding Iran and Donald Trump, here is something from my book Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse:

Iran and Prophecy

Donald Trump has stated that he wants to eliminate or at least change the “nuclear deal” with Iran (Wilkinson T. Trump’s plans to scuttle or amend the Iran nuclear deal remain a work in progress. Los Angeles Times, November 14, 2016).

He also might be more willing than the Obama Administration to trigger enforcement provisions if he feels Iran has violated portions of the agreement.

Iran would not like to see either of those actions and continues to show some of its nuclear ambitions: after Donald Trump’s election, Iran declared it would pursue development of nuclear powered ships (Norman L. Europe Hopeful Trump Will Stick With Iran Nuclear Deal. Wall Street Journal, December 13, 2016).

Because  Bible  prophecy indicates  that it  will  be  primarily Arabic nations that support the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:1-8), though with some (probably temporary per Daniel 11:25-26) support from Turkey (and possibly Pakistan), it is not biblically possible that Iran can truly be the leader of the Islamic world as it seems to want to be. Also, because it is basically due east of Jerusalem, Iran should not be considered to be a candidate to be the final ‘King of the South’ of biblical prophecy.

Despite its posturing and relative military strength, Iran will be somehow effectively neutralized (cf. Ezekiel 32:24). This could perhaps be from an attack involving Israel and/or internal civil unrest — this could also include electromagnetic (EMP) or similar weapons used against Iran (Jeremiah 49:34-39).

It is of prophetic interest to note that the small nation of Israel is prophesied to one day be attacked by some that seem to have connection to Iran (Isaiah 22:1-14).

Iran may decide to strike out against Israel, and possibly Jerusalem (cf. Isaiah 22:7-8) if a Trump Administration and/or Israel takes actions it does not like.

Iran has weapons that can cause damage. Furthermore, the U.S.A. itself (as well as is the State of Israel) is vulnerable to EMP type attacks and/or items such as biological weapons, chemical weapons, terrorism, nuclear weapons, dirty bombs, etc. because of a conflict involving Iran, Syria, and/or others.

But should this occur, this would NOT be the final destruction of the U.S.A. Prophetically, Iran would not end up faring well (cf. Ezekiel 32:24-25). (Thiel B. Donald Trump and America’s Apocalypse. Nazarene Books, 2017)

We may very well see a regional war involving Iran, Syria, and Israel, with perhaps some USA involvement. A war that could see all of them damaged according to Bible prophecy (Isaiah 17:1; 22:1-14; Jeremiah 49:34-38). But also a war that might lead to another ‘deal’–perhaps one day the deal of Daniel 9:27 that will signal the final countdown to the end–the start of the Great Tribulation.

That being said, despite the view of certain Protestant prophecy watchers in the past couple of years, it needs to be pointed out that Iran is not about to be totally aligned with Russia to invade Israel or somehow fulfill Ezekiel 38 (see also Ezekiel 38: For Russia & Iran in Our Day? and/or watch Russia, Iran, Syria, & the Bible (Code)). Ezekiel 38 is NOT fulfilled until well AFTER Jesus returns.

Iran is committed to its military agenda. One that may not end up well for Israel, nor itself (Jeremiah 49:34-38). And the USA could be affected.
