NBC: U.S. ‘Military action is coming’ to Syria

Damage from Syrian Conflict

NBC is reporting the following:

August 26, 2013
By Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Jessica Taylor

*** Military action is coming: All the action and body language over the weekend suggests that the United States is preparing for some kind of military response to the suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria. The question is: Just what kind of response will it be?…

Indeed, as NBC’s Andrea Mitchell reported on “TODAY,” the United States and its allies are considering military options — most likely, cruise missiles from Navy destroyers and submarines in the Mediterranean or U.S. fighter jets targeting Syrian airfields from where chemical attacks could be launched. “I do think action is going to occur,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) said on “TODAY.” The question no longer seems to be “if”; rather, it’s “when,” “how,” and “how long.”

*** Will it work? And here’s another question: Will some kind of U.S. response actually work? Eliot Cohen — who worked in the George W. Bush administration — argues that it won’t in a Washington Post op-ed. “A minority regime fighting for its life, as Bashar al-Assad’s is, can weather a couple of dozen big bangs.” Yet writing in the Sunday New York Times, Edward Luttwak makes a different point: The U.S. should work to achieve a stalemate in the Syrian civil war. “[I]t would be disastrous if President Bashar al-Assad’s regime were to emerge victorious after fully suppressing the rebellion and restoring its control over the entire country… But a rebel victory would also be extremely dangerous for the United States and for many of its allies in Europe and the Middle East. That’s because extremist groups, some identified with Al Qaeda, have become the most effective fighting force in Syria.”  http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/08/26/20196657-first-thoughts-military-action-is-coming?lite

Monday, three key American allies indicated that they would back the Obama administration if it decides to take action against Syria in response to the alleged attack, even without a United Nations mandate. The U.N. Security Council has been stymied in taking strong action on Syria by veto-wielding Russia, a longtime ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The alleged chemical attack appears to cross a “red line” set by Obama a year ago regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Assad government…The United States has been consulting with its allies about possible responses, and on Monday the foreign ministers of Britain, France and Turkey said in separate radio interviews that they would be prepared to back U.S. action outside the parameters of a United Nations mandate. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/un-team-headed-to-site-of-alleged-chemical-attack-comes-under-sniper-fire-turns-back/2013/08/26/5ea074c8-0e3f-11e3-8cdd-bcdc09410972_story.html

Syria is blaming the rebels/terrorists for the recent chemical attacks.   Conflict is coming to the region. And while Israel and the USA will likely not be unscathed, this will not end well for Syria as ultimately its capital city Damascus will be destroyed per Isaiah 17:1.

The reality is that the cost to the USA, Israel, and/or the UK for a major regional war involving Syria and/or Iran will be higher than many in Israel believe. Between terrorist acts, sustained resistance, chemical weapons (Syria Reportedly Has Loaded Chemical Weapons into Bombs), biological weapons, EMP-type bombs (EMP attack can do more than knock-out electricity), and/or even disruptions of the internet (Iran Believed to be Behind Cyber-Attacks Against US Banks), Syria (along with its closest ally Iran, as well as allies such as Hezbollah) can inflict significant damage to their enemies.

Syria has made a variety of threats in the past (see Syria threatens Israel with ‘all options;’ Israel bolsters defenses; Russia and China express concerns).

However, since the Bible tells of a time when a confederation of territory, currently dominated by Islamic nations, will get together, there will be changes in Syria.  Because the Bible predicts this type of confederation in the end times (see Ezekiel 30:1-8; Daniel 11:40-43), it will come to pass.

Since Syria is one of the countries that will support the final King of the South (Daniel 11:40), and its President Assad is basically on the outs with other Arabic nations, something (like him and his government) will have to change there.

Statements from the governments of the USA, UK, France, Turkey, Syria, and Israel strongly suggest that they are all moving towards military conflict.
