Pope Francis hailed a move for Greco-Roman unity on their twisted gospel:

Pope Francis hails declaration signed at Reformed churches gathering in Germany

Wittenberg, Germany – Pope Francis has hailed the signing of declarations by the World Council of Reformed Churches joining Lutherans, Methodists and the Catholic Church to affirm their basic understanding of the Gospel in the quest for greater church unity.

“Together with great joy, today’s formal act bring new challenges and responsibilities in our pursuit of fidelity to the Gospel and unity in truth,” the Pope said in message read out for him.

“May it mark a new stage of fellowship and cooperation in the service of justice and peace in our human family,” said Francis.

The Pope’s message was read to a congregation of about 800 Reformed clergy and lay people from all over the world and dignitaries representing the main Christian Churches, gathered in Wittenberg.

The town in the eastern part of Germany is where the 16th century Reformer Martin Luther lived and worked and set in motion the Reformation 500 years ago when he posted his 95 theses to a church door there protesting about corruption in the Catholic Church at the time. …

The World Council of Churches also welcomed the signing of the two ecumenical statements by the World Communion of Reformed Churches in which it seeks to overcome divisions of the past and to work with other Christian communions for unity and common witness.

The WCRC represents about eighty million Reformed tradition Christians and was gathered in the City Church, the Stadtkirche of Wittenberg where it signed an Association Agreement joining the Joint Declaration of Justification(JDDJ).

It was originally signed in 1999 between the Lutherans and the Catholics in the German city of Augsburg bringing to an end nearly five centuries of religious wars in the Western Church. The JDDJ was joined by the World Methodist Council in 2006. 07/05/17 http://www.ecumenicalnews.com/article/pope-francis-hails-declaration-signed-at-reformed-churches-gathering-in-germany/60375.htm

Pope Francis hailed that World Council of Reformed Churches move to agree to accepting unity in the Greco-Roman “gospel.” This, of course, is not unity for the Gospel of the Kingdom of God which is what this world needs. But instead is a false gospel. Such moves are part of what I have called ‘Satan’s Plan.’

Back in February 2014, Anglican Bishop Tony Palmer stated that the JDDJ agreement between the Church of Rome and Lutherans in 1999 ended the primary disagreements between those groups and then declared that the protests were over and told people that they were once again Catholic. (Specific details of the JDDJ, as well as more information about Tony Palmer, are included in the article Beware: Protestants Going Towards Ecumenical Destruction!).

In the wake of the JDDJ of 1999, round XI, “The Hope for Eternal Life” is seen as a precursor leading up to a shared Lutheran/Roman Catholic commemoration of the October 31, 2017, 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of his 95 Theses. It appears that the Church of Rome and many of the Lutherans wish to declare an end to much of the theological divides between the two groups on or by October 31, 2017. Pope Francis plans to attend this 500th anniversary (watch Pope Francis’ Celebration of Reformation’s 500th Anniversary).

Some feel that the above agreement has already effectively eliminated Protestantism and that Protestants and Catholics are now unified as the ‘justification doctrine’ is seen by many to have been amongst the most significantly theological differences between Roman Catholicism and Martin Luther’s movement.

What about ecumenical and interfaith goals that the Vatican and many others have?

The Bible is clear that a group of churches, led by one from the city of seven hills, is to be avoided and will end in disaster:

1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.

7 But the angel said to me, “Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

9 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. …

18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth. (Revelation 17:1-10)

The Bible does not teach that Christians will have the type of unity that many, like the World Council of Churches and Vatican, claim to want UNTIL AFTER THE FALL OF BABYLON. Notice that in Zechariah (a Catholic translation is shown below), the Bible warns against a coming ‘daughter of Babylon’ and shows that proper unity will not happen until after Jesus returns:

10 Look out! Look out! Flee from the land of the north — Yahweh declares- for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven — Yahweh declares. 11 Look out! Make your escape, Zion, now living with the daughter of Babylon!

12 For Yahweh Sabaoth says this, since the Glory commissioned me, about the nations who plundered you, ‘Whoever touches you touches the apple of my eye. 13 Now look, I shall wave my hand over them and they will be plundered by those whom they have enslaved.’ Then you will know that Yahweh Sabaoth has sent me! 14 Sing, rejoice, daughter of Zion, for now I am coming to live among you -Yahweh declares! 15 And on that day many nations will be converted to Yahweh. Yes, they will become his people, and they will live among you. Then you will know that Yahweh Sabaoth has sent me to you! 16 Yahweh will take possession of Judah, his portion in the Holy Land, and again make Jerusalem his choice. (Zechariah 2:12-16, New Jerusalem Bible-NJB)

(NOTE: The NJB verses for Zechariah 2:10-16 are shown as Zechariah 2:6-13 in the NKJV/KJV.)

The Bible tells that the ecumenical/inter-faith movement will also end in destruction (Revelation 18 & 19). This is not something that Protestants nor Catholics nor the Eastern Orthodox should want (see also Why Should American Catholics Fear Unity with the Orthodox?). The ecumenical and inter-faith plans that many are promoting are clearly condemned by the Bible and should not be encouraged.

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul also taught that true unity of faith would not happen until after Jesus returns:

13 until we all reach unity in faith and knowledge of the Son of God and form the perfect Man, fully mature with the fullness of Christ himself. (Ephesians 4:13, NJB)

Those who believe this unity comes prior to Jesus’ return are in error.

The ecumenical movement is part of what I have called ‘Satan’s Plan.’

And Satan’s plan will have a certain success for a time. But that will change when Jesus returns and eliminates Satan and the world’s armies that will support him (Revelation 19:11-21).

While these plans will have some temporal success (cf. Daniel 9:27), they will not last, but will bring on destruction.

Only the return of Jesus Christ and the millennial kingdom will bring lasting peace.

Anyway, while Pope Francis was hailing the acceptance by more of his ecumenical agenda, details came out related to perhaps others reasons that Pope Francis fired Cardinal last week:

A new scandal is rocking the Vatican as police recently raided a drugs and gay sex party at a cardinal’s apartment near the city.

Without revealing the name of the occupant of the apartment, police said that the person is believed to be a priest who serves as a secretary to cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, the head of the Pontifical Council for Legislative texts and a personal adviser to Pope Francis.

According to Italian daily Il Fatto Quotidiano which first published the news, police raided the apartment in June after complaints from neighbours who reported unusual behaviour among people visiting the apartment.

The newspaper quoted the police as saying that they found drugs and a group of men engaged in sexual activity when they entered the apartment.

The police have arrested the priest and taken him for questioning, presumably on drugs charges. It is not a criminal offence to engage in private same-sex activity in Vatican City.

The apartment belongs to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, whose duties include investigating clerical sexual abuse. … 07/05/17 http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/vatican-police-bust-gay-sex-party-cardinals-apartment-1628975

Police in late June found widespread drug-use and men engaged in homosexual activity during the bust at the home owned by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to Il Fatto Quotidiano, an Italian newspaper that first reported the incident. Among its duties, the congregation guides the Church’s response to clerical sexual abuse cases. …

Pope Francis also removed German Cardinal Gerhard Mueller as prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to The Associated Press. It is unclear if the reported drug arrest played any part in the pope’s decision. 07/05/17 https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2017-07-05/vatican-police-find-drugs-sex-in-raid-of-cardinal-secretarys-apartment

The initial reports about the removal of Cardinal Mueller suggested that he was simply too slow to deal with sex abuse allegations against priests (see Pope Francis removes Cardinal Mueller related to sex abuse matters). Now we see drugs and homosexuality matters may also have been involved.

Many, like the World Council of Churches, will chalk this up as just another scandal associated with the Church of Rome. Yet the Vatican’s doctrines and practices, including its celibacy requirements and its administration, are factors that have encouraged such immoral behaviors. This latest scandal is another sign of the deep corruption associated with the Vatican.

Ecumenical agreements do not eliminate the sexual and doctrinal corruption that the world’s churches have been involved in. Instead of the tainted trying to accept each others doctrines, all should repent, believe the Bible, and move to promote “the faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3).

And that faith was not Roman Catholic, Protestant, nor Eastern Orthodox. For details, check out the free online booklet: Continuing History of the Church of God.
