Concerns from ‘Armageddon’

Top of Megiddo and Related Valley (Joe Freeman)

COGwriter

Not all in Israel support an attack against Iran, though some do.  Here are basically four views from some who live in the area many call Armaggedon:

It is just an 18-mile journey from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s private residence in luxurious Caesarea on the shores of the Mediterranean, to Har Megiddo – Armageddon, the hilltop ancient ruins of one of King Solomon’s palaces from where the Bible suggests the final battle between good and evil will be viewed…

A man who identified himself as Mordechai, who was giving away copies of a free newspaper outside local shops in Caesarea, said he fears the seemingly inevitable confrontation.

“I’m frightened” Mordechai said. “I don’t think we should attack Iran; it will start another world war. It’s also a big mistake to be talking about it here in the media.”…

Just a short drive down the road, in the Arab village of Baqa-Al-Gharbieh, few people were prepared to speak their mind. ‘Eid’, a shopkeeper, gave an insight into local Arab opinion.

“If he (Netanyahu) attacks Iran it will be a very big mistake,” Eid said. “The Jewish people don’t want to face facts. If the Palestinian problem was solved, Iran would have no reason or support to threaten Israel. We (Arabs) want peace. In life it is give and take, not like the Israelis, who take and take.”

At a gas station in another Arab town of Umm El Fahm, Samir bemoaned what war could do the already high cost of a gallon of gas. “If Netanyahu starts a war, $8 will seem cheap!” he observes. “It would be an economic disaster.”…

In the souvenir shop ‘Maya’ and ‘David’ (not their real names), gave the perspective of 30-something Israeli Jews.

“I believe Iran is close to getting the bomb,” David said. “Israel must not allow another Holocaust to happen. We must act first.”

Maya agreed: “I do” she said. “We must be sure though to bomb Iranian military targets and not civilian areas. And we must do it soon; before it’s too late.”  http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/08/25/taking-pulse-armageddon-as-israel-iran-showdown-looms/

Let us briefly look at each of those views.

First, if Israel attacks Iran it will not be World War III.  Nor will this be directly related to the troop gathering in Armageddon that the Bible tells of.  Notice what the Bible, in the only place that mentions the word Armageddon, actually says:

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.  (Revelation 16:12-16)

Since the above does not happen until more than 3 years AFTER the start of the Great Tribulation, and the Great Tribulation itself cannot start for years, if Israel launches an attack against Iran within the next several years, this is not ‘Armageddon’ as that event cannot occur until probably at least seven years from now.

Second, it is not true that the Palestinian issue is what drives Iran.  The leaders of Iran believe that it is their destiny to help usher in a leader that they call the Imam Mahdi, and that Iran needs to cause chaos/war for this to happen.  Palestine is really only a side issue for the Iranian leadership–it is not the driving force for Iran’s military and/or nuclear development.

Third, it is true that inflation economic, and other problems face Israel if it gets involved in a conflict with Iran.  The cost to Israel will exceed what many of the Israeli leaders seem to want to believe it will be.

Fourth, Israel most certainly is at risk if Iran acquires nuclear weaponry.  However, the cost to Israel will likely be higher than those who advocate attacking Iran realize.  Furthermore, considering the situation in Syria, Syria itself is likely to release chemical and/or biological weapons during such a conflict, which would increase the cost and damage.

As I have long warned, the cost to Israel (and likely the USA) for a regional war involving Iran and/or Syria will be higher than many in the USA or Israel believe. Israel, and possibly the USA, will be weakened by a regional conflict involving Iran. Between terrorist acts, sustained resistance, chemical weapons, biological weapons, emp-type bombs, and/or even disruptions of the internet, Iran and/or Syria can inflict significant damage to their enemies. Yet, the USA and the tiny of nation of Israel would not be “eliminated” by that–it will come later, by the King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:39) before he takes on the King of the South (Daniel 11:40). But since Iran will not be the King of the South and Syria apparently will support that King, the situation in those countries will change–and this certainly could happen from an attack involving Israel.  But this would not be the battle associated with Armageddon in the Bible.

Germany’s Merkel Calls for New and Stronger European Unity Treaty

Monday, August 27th, 2012

Angela Merkel

COGwriter

Germany’s Chancellor Merkel continues to push for a stronger political union in the EU:

Merkel Pushes for Convention to Draft New EU Treaty

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plans for a new treaty governing the European Union are becoming more concrete. SPIEGEL has learned that the German leader wants the EU to begin working on a draft this year, with the aim of providing Brussels with greater power to monitor budgets. But many countries are deeply opposed to the idea…The treaty would pave the way for deeper European integration and would create a new legal foundation for the bloc.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/merkel-pushes-for-new-eu-treaty-with-tougher-fiscal-rules-a-852292.html

There were difficulties getting the Europeans to approve the Lisbon Treaty.  It is likely that there will be difficulties in getting this one.  But change to Europe is coming.

Deeper political integration is consistent with biblical prophecy. The Bible shows that Europe will have to have a major restructure for deeper political integration, and yet, despite certain appearances of unity it will not stick well together:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. (Daniel 2:41-43)

The prophecies in both the books of Daniel (9:26-27; 11:20-44) and Revelation (13;17;18) point to a power that is to be based out of Europe (there are also European pointed prophecies in other books of the Bible, such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc.) that will fulfill many end-time prophecies.

The Bible shows that despite problems, Europe will have to reorganize and ultimately fulfill the prophecies in the Bible about being the final Beast power of Revelation, the final King of the North of Daniel 11. The fact that leaders such as Germany’s Chancellor Merkel are more and more publicly calling for European integration will help more and more set the stage for public acceptance of this in the future.

For details on those prophecies, check out the following:

Is a nuclear attack prophesied to happen to the English-speaking peoples of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand? When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? When does the Bible show that economic collapse will affect the United States?

American Academy of Pediatrics Now Advocating Circumcision

Monday, August 27th, 2012

COGwriter

The American Academy of Pediatrics made a useful proposal today:

The health benefits from male circumcision outweigh the risks, says the American Academy of Pediatrics in its latest guidelines on the controversial procedure published Monday…

The group’s previous stance said the procedure can prevent bladder infections and sexually transmitted diseases like HIV/AIDS, but also carried potential downsides like reduced sensation and infection.

In 1999, there was some data suggesting that there were some small medical benefits to circumcision…For the new policy statement, researchers formed a task force in 2007 to review evidence from 1,000 studies that took place between 1995 and 2010. They found that the procedure had preventive benefits, including a major risk reduction for male urinary tract infections – especially during the first year of life – and a lower risk of cancer, and heterosexual acquisition of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Specifically, risk for herpes was 28 to 34 percent lower for circumcised men and risk for HPV was reduced by 30 to 40 percent.

Thousands of years ago, God told Abraham to implement circumcision:

9 And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. 10 This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; 11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with money from any foreigner who is not your descendant. 13 He who is born in your house and he who is bought with your money must be circumcised, and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.” (Genesis 17:9-14)

Now, although the New Testament teaches that Gentile adult males do not have to be circumcised in order to be Christians (Acts 15:24-29), the Apostle Paul had Timothy circumcised anyway (Acts 16:3).

Even though the apostles ruled that adult Gentiles did not have to be circumcised in Acts 15, my own reading into early church history suggests that many Christians continued to circumcise their male babies after this declaration (though not necessarily in all Sabbath-keeping groups).

The early 20th century theologian J.J.L. Ratton reported:

The early Church at Jerusalem, retained most of the distinctive customs of the Jews, such as circumcision, kosher meats, the Jewish Sabbath, the Jewish rites, and worship of the Temple. Our Lord, Himself, lived the exterior life of a Jew, even so far as the observance of Jewish religious customs was concerned. The early Church of Jerusalem followed His example. The Jews looked upon the Hebrew Christians in Jerusalem simply as a Jewish sect, which they called the sect of the Nazarenes. (Ratton JJL The Apocalypse of St. John: a commentary on the Greek text, 2nd edition. R. & T. Washbourne, ltd., 1915. Original fromt he University of Michigan. Digitized Jun 12, 2007, p. 4)

Now, it should be mentioned that in the second century, non-Nazarene professors of Christ, like the heretic Justin, did not practice circumcision.

While the Bible does not list health benefits that come from circumcision, it would make sense that the Creator of the universe would only recommend physical practices that were beneficial for His human creation.

Earthquakes and Tsunami Hit El Salvador; Hurricane Isaac Headed Towards New Orleans

Two earthquakes and a small tsunami hit El Salvador:

Strong Earthquake Strikes El Salvador Coast

Published August 27, 2012…

A small tsunami hit the El Salvador port of Acajutla following the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The-7.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador followed an hour later by a magnitude-5.4 aftershock, authorities said early Monday. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries. http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2012/08/27/major-quake-hits-off-el-salvador/#ixzz24kqksWaP

Our family, actually because of airline problems, actually got to visit El Salvador (our flight stranded us there) in January 2012.  The people of El Salvador that we met were helpful and kind.

Other weather matters, such as Hurricane Isaac, are in the news as well:

Isaac crossing Gulf with New Orleans in crosshairs

August 27, 2012

KEY WEST, Fla.—

Tropical Storm Isaac targeted a broad swath of the Gulf Coast on Monday and had New Orleans in its crosshairs, bearing down just ahead of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

The potential for a landfall as soon as Tuesday prompted evacuations along a wide area of the Gulf Coast and sent people out to stock up on staples…Isaac blew past the Florida Keys and was rolling northwestward over the open Gulf of Mexico on Monday. The National Hurricane Center predicted it would grow to a Category 1 hurricane over the warm water and possibly hit late Tuesday somewhere along a roughly 300-mile stretch from the bayous southwest of New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle.

That would be one day shy of seven years after Katrina struck catastrophically in 2005, although Katrina was a much stronger Category 5 storm with winds over 157 miles per hour. Isaac is expected to have top winds of around 90 mph when it hits land.  http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-tropical-storm-isaac-20120827,0,3882755.story

Jesus, of course, warned about a time earthquakes and troubles:

8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

We may be at this prophetic point as all the weather, earthquakes, and other problems that have happened in the past couple of years or so could be considered as “troubles.” Perhaps the earthquake and weather problems can serve as another wake-up call to people everywhere that the world can change very quickly and that the time to repent is now:

30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)

There are troubles and repentance is needed.

Death and Life of Wayne Pyle

Wayne Pyle

COGwriter

As I reported a couple of days ago at my News of the Living Church of God page, Wayne Pyle died.  Here is some additional information about that:

Obituary for Louis Wayne Pyle, II

Louis Wayne Pyle II, a native Californian, died at his home in Matthews, NC at the age of 65 years on August 25, 2012, after a valiant two year battle with cancer. Mr. Pyle was born in San Francisco on September 28, 1946. At 6’3” tall, Mr. Pyle was a big man with a big, compassionate heart who put his whole being into everything he did.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Suzanne Kloster Pyle, three children and two grandchildren. His son Michael Pyle married to Mayuko of California. His twin daughters are Angela married to Dwight Mullis, of Charlotte, NC, their sons Aiden, age 19 months and Easton, age 2 weeks; and, Kathleen Pyle of California. His brothers are David Pyle from California,Gary Pyle from Pennsylvania, and Jeffry Pyle from California. He also had two stepbrothers, Fred and Timothy Hackett and two stepsisters, Elizabeth Hackett and Catherine Hackett Welch. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Pyle and Frances Hackett and one brother, Ernie Pyle.

Mr. Pyle was 1972 graduate of Ambassador College in Pasadena, California. He worked for the college and the Worldwide Church of God until 1995 in various capacities over the years in Transportation, Mail Processing, and in the Media/Circulation Departments. In the years following that, he became a part of the Living Church of God as Media Coordinator.

Mr. Pyle came to North Carolina with the Living Church of God in 2002, to serve God‘s Work and God’s people. As a long time deacon, his devotion to his duties was legendary. If there was a job to be done he was there to do it until his failing health made it impossible for him carry on.

He had many interests which he pursued with his usual passion. His lifelong love of mountaineering brought him national recognitions as an expert on the mountains of North America, but none of his interests was more important to him than his family and his church brethren.

The family deeply appreciates the over whelming expressions of concern and condolences from so many people around the world, and the loving, heartfelt care Mr. Pyle received.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday in the funeral home Chapel. The family will have a reception immediately following the service at the funeral home.

An online guestbook is available at www.heritagefuneral.net

Wayne Pyle was always nice and kind to me and I enjoyed working with him. He worked for WCG, then GCG, and finally LCG. His family is in my prayers.

I suspect the first thing Wayne Pyle might say to me in the resurrection (presuming that I could be amongst the first he would speak with) would be: “Well, how did it all turn out?  I want the details.”   With the “it” being finalizing the work of getting the Gospel out and through the time of Jesus’ return.  Wayne Pyle will be missed and I miss him already.

TW: Australia Declaring Their Sin as Sodom

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

COGwriter

The latest TW News & Prophecy from the Living Church of God has the following:

Declaring their sin as Sodom.

IThe polarizing debate of whether or not the Australian states should “go it alone” on the issue of homosexual marriage rose to the fore last week as rallies were held in most major cities by those who want to change the definition of marriage. State premiers from South Australia and Tasmania along with the Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (where the country’s federal government is located) threw their weight behind efforts to legislate and legalize homosexual marriage.

Jay Weatherhill, Premier of South Australia, stated on the steps of the Parliament that “People should be entitled to express their own identity in any way they wish and the law shouldn’t become a barrier to prevent them from doing that.” He went onto say, “from my perspective, it’s a simple question of the dignity of the individual.” In a stunning comment, Australian Marriage Equality national convener Alex Greenwich told the Sydney rally that individual states and territories could legislate same-sex marriage “if the federal government fails the aspirations of our nation” (Australian Associated Press, August 11, 2012).

Long ago, the prophet Isaiah, warning against the wickedness of ancient Israel, wrote: “The look on their countenance witnesses against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves” (Isaiah 3:9). If our Israelite-descended peoples continue to thumb their collective noses at God and His laws and refuse to turn to Him in repentance, then our cities and our countries will surely fall because our “tongue and [our] doings” are against the Lord (Isaiah 3:8).

Be sure to read more about God’s expectations for mankind in our free booklet, The Ten Commandments

There were other societies that have had their own issues of openly advocating sin relationships that their residents seemed to view as acceptable. Notice what happened in a couple of such towns between three thousand and four thousand years ago:

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)

And why did it happen?

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

Why mention this in the 21st century? Because God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6,
NKJV)

National repentance is the only real long-term hope for the Anglo-peoples (and it seems to be too late for that).

Keeping the Ten Commandments reflects love. Breaking them and/or condoning those that do is evil. This should be clear to those who believe the God of the Bible. Children should be raised by God-fearing heterosexual couples–for God wants godly offspring:

4…Because the Lord has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth…Yet she is your companion
And your wife by covenant. 15 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one?
He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. (Malachi 2:14-15)

Same-sex unions are not endorsed in the Bible and were not what God intended humans to be in to raise children.

But Australia does not seem inclined to truly listen to those who are strongly advocating changes in the moral direction of the land. Nor do those in New Zealand or the other Anglo-dominated lands.

Did the ‘Lady of Fatima’ Wear a Short Skirt?

Sunday, August 26th, 2012

COGwriter

Since publishing my latest book, Fatima Shock! as well as posting about it at youtube (see Fatima Shock! YouTube), I have received a lot of criticism from those who will not believe the truth about what appeared at Fatima, Portugal in 1917.

The fact is that according to the only three witnesses (three little children aged 7,9, and 10), what appeared in/near Fatima, Portugal in six times in 1917, was a being in a short skirt.  Lucia, the oldest, provided the most testimony on this.

Yet, certain people pretending to be defending the Church of Rome have made a variety of inaccurate charges against my Fatima Shock! book and Fatima Shock! YouTube.

So, to try to make the record plainer, let me state that it was the Roman Catholic Fatima Sanctuary in Fatima, Portugal that released the facts about this short skirt in 1992.  Since I do not read Portuguese, after reading one translation of parts of the description, I actually hired someone in Portugal (Carlos Duarte) to purchase a book on this  in Portuguese and translate the relevant passages into English for me, and those sources are cited in my Fatima Shock! book.

All three children who claimed to see the “Lady of Fatima” said that what appeared wore a short skirt–and they were the only claimed eye witnesses.  And this was investigated and confirmed by at least 4 Catholic priests at the time.

Additionally, after noticing that some supposed “Catholic” criticized my book Fatima Shock! online, Dr. Joaquim Fernandes  who is Professor of History at the University of Fernando Pessoa in Porto, Portugal (a town close to Fatima) wrote some comments confirming my book.  Here is part of an email communication with him on August 23, 2012:

According the original documents (the Parochial Inquiry conducted by the priest Jose Ferreira de Lacerda, probably in October 1917) it was Lucia that made the description of the Lady wearing a short skirt. The same description had been made yet previously to the Fatima priest Manuel Ferreira Marques, in August 21, 1917. The features of the “celestial being” was compared to another 12 years old local child, named Virginia, who measured around 1.10 meters high. All three children confirmed this. But was it Lucia who transmitted the most detailed description relating the strange “white skirt” as well the others features that the priest Manuel Marques took in his important report. Several comments from Catholic clergy members, such as Canon Barthas, agree that this strange Lady was very different from any other of the classic Our Lady images. Although some seem to wish to re-write history, in the original 1917 documents we can not see any witness provide details of the Lady wearing a long dress, which is how the Lady is normally now shown.

Furthermore, I just made another youtube titled Did the Lady of Fatima Wear a Short Skirt? for those  who would like to see me discuss this.

For those of you who have been hesitating about getting Fatima Shock! or my other book, 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, here is a special offer I mentioned earlier this month, and which only has five days left:

For those unfamiliar with Fatima, Fatima was the name of Muhammad’s favorite daughter. According to Islam, Fatima and Mary are among the only four “perfect women.” A small town in Portugal was renamed Fatima after a Muslim princess named Fatima converted to Roman Catholicism. In 1917, three children claimed to have a series of monthly visits from an apparition who finally identified herself with the rosary. The apparition is known as “Our Lady of Fatima” or “the Virgin of Fatima” (she never referred to herself as Mary). Hollywood did a movie about this decades ago called The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (which I have seen). Some Muslims claim that it was Muhammad’s daughter that appeared in Fatima.

Fatima Shock! explains why what was seen in Fatima is not what most people think. If Catholics realized what was really seen, they would not believe that it could possibly have been Jesus’ mother Mary.

Fatima Shock! explains how certain messages from the “Lady of Fatima” contradict scripture as well as COG and Roman Catholic saints.

The REAL Miracle of “Our Lady of Fatima” is that any Catholics still believe in it (but multiple millions do), and none would if they truly understood the facts–facts that are not in other “Fatima” books and where also not in the The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima movie. And those facts are documented in Fatima Shock!  Believing in “Our Lady of Fatima” is dangerous and teaches a false message about Mary and God’s plan of salvation.

Despite the truth, the reality is that because of Fatima and other apparitions, many do not have sufficient love of the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10), and many will be inclined to accept signs and lying wonders (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12; Matthew 24:24).

Tens of millions of people visit the sites of “Marian” apparitions each year. And the Fatima sanctuary is one of the biggest tourist draws for the entire nation of Portugal. Catholic prophecy, consistent with biblical prophecy (Isaiah 47), teaches that Marian apparitions will become public in the future and will help turn the world to follow the final ecumenical religion, that will likely call itself “Catholic,” that Satan will support.

I wrote Fatima Shock! to warn people that apparitions that most people will think are Mary will likely be part of the signs and lying wonders that the Bible warns will deceive the world. Notice what Dr. Roderick C. Meredith of the Living Church of God warned about in his May 2012 semi-annual letter:

All kinds of “miracles,” visions of the Virgin Mary and other strange sights and events will begin to take place—startling many…(Meredith RC. Semi-annual TW subscriber letter, May 18, 2012)

Although most non-Catholics do not think that Fatima can affect them, if they live long enough this century, they will find that this is not the case. Fatima is a much bigger deal than people realize and seems to tie into a variety of prophecies throughout the Bible (e.g. Isaiah 47, Matthew 24, 2 Thessalonians 2, Revelation 17). How apparitions are likely to affect the world at the end seems to be a missing dimension in understanding prophecy by most who profess Christ. Although Dr. Meredith has warned about the sorcery of “Lady of the Kingdoms” in Isaiah 47 affecting end times in at least one booklet, relatively few in the Church of God truly understand how important it is to better know the truth about that “Lady.” The dangers, and even more details, are covered in my book Fatima Shock! What the Vatican Does Not Want You to Know About Fatima, Dogmas of Mary, and Future Apparitions.

The truth about Fatima, the messages of Fatima, the “secrets” of Fatima, the Vatican’s views of Fatima, and how Fatima is expected to impact the future are all covered in detail in Fatima Shock!

Fatima Shock! also, and mainly from Catholic writings, exposes where the “rosary” came from, where many “dogmas of Mary” came from, and explains how Satan has used apparitions in the past to interfere with the Church of God and to promote non-biblical “Christianity.” Fatima Shock! also explains what appears to be Satan’s plans for apparitions in the future based upon biblical and other prophecies.

Do you really know how Satan has used Marian and other female apparitions to support his plan? Can you explain this in detail to others?

While you may think that future apparitions could not possibly deceive you, are you sure that they will not be able to deceive all your friends and loved ones?

Fatima Shock! provides concerned Christians enough Catholic-documented facts needed to effectively counter every false Marian argument. The Apostle Peter’s admonished Christians, “always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks” (1 Peter 3:15).  Are you truly ready to deal with those who will believe the type of signs and lying wonders that Fatima represents?

Fatima Shock! is available at www.fatimashock.com; Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Fatima-Shock-Truth-Future-Apparitions/dp/0984087176/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1336687621&sr=8-3); AmazonKindle (http://www.amazon.com/Fatima-Shock-ebook/dp/B0081APXBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336687621&sr=8-1); Barnes & Noble Nook (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/fatima-shock-bob-thiel/1110624059?ean=2940014385640)

If you want a deeper understanding of these matters than can be covered in news posts, you should read Fatima Shock! If you are not shocked by what you will learn from reading Fatima Shock! I would be surprised. Most in the COGs make a variety of mistakes concerning their knowledge of Marian apparitions and dogmas, Fatima Shock! documents what true Christians should know about this subject that will greatly affect the world in the future.

Superbugs, Death, and Coming Pestilences

Superbugs and others pests cause disease and death:

August 25, 2012…

JUAREZ–As health officials in Texas work to control West Nile virus, those along the border must keep an eye on another illness spread by mosquitoes—Dengue fever.

Preliminary testing in the border city Juarez indicates the presence of mosquitoes carrying Dengue fever.

The disease prevalent in parts of Mexico with a tropical climate but until now had not been seen this far north.

The mosquitoes caught in traps set out weekly in both El Paso and Juarez help officials identify which breeds of mosquitoes are in the area and if they’re carrying any diseases.

“Remember some mosquitoes can travel up to a mile and some mosquitoes can travel up to five miles so they’ll be able to cross that border pretty quick,” said Danny Soto, code enforcement supervisor with the city of El Paso Environmental Services Department.  http://www.khou.com/news/Mosquitoes-carrying-Dengue-Fever-spotted-futher-north-on-the-border–167389585.html

Washington Post – Aug 24, 2012 excerpt…
It’s an especially tight corner that hospital physicians find themselves in. Ten years ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 1.7 million annual hospital-borne infections in the United States caused 99,000 deaths. The CDC is now updating those figures.
In a recent survey of infectious disease specialists, Spellberg said, 60 percent reported encountering infections resistant to every antibiotic.
“That’s the real crisis,” said Henry Masur, chief of NIH’s Critical Care Medicine Department, who last year watched six patients die from the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae when even colistin, that old warhorse, stopped working.
Although about one third of the above number die in automobile accidents in the USA, many do not realize the current effect of certain pestilences have on mortality (plus many more are made miserable by them each year).
In our area, the West Nile virus is starting to appear, as I saw a news report on that earlier this week.

Notice part of the reason for terror and pestilences:

14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments,
15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant,
16 I also will do this to you:
I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart.
And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.
17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies.
Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)

21 ‘Then, if you walk contrary to Me, and are not willing to obey Me, I will bring on you seven times more plagues, according to your sins.
22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and make you few in number;
and your highways shall be desolate.

23 ‘And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me,
24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.
25 And I will bring a sword against you that will execute the vengeance of the covenant;
when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you;
and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.   (Leviticus 26:21-25)

Superbugs of various kinds may be part of the pestilences that the Bible warned about for the end times. Jesus taught:

7…And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:6-8)

We seem to be in the time Jesus called “the beginning of sorrows.”  There have been “earthquakes in various places” this year. However, what will be coming will be worse (see ).

As Jesus said:

37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:36-37)

LCG: Middle East About to Explode? COGwriter Reports EMP Threat to Iran and USA

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

COGwriter

In its latest TW News & Prophecy, LCG has the following:

Will the Middle East powder keg explode soon?

Tensions between Israel, Iran and Lebanon are heating up. Israel is threatening an attack on suspected nuclear sites in Iran, while Iran appears to be “itching for a fight” with Israel to show off its military hardware (YNet News, August 21, 2012). In a recent speech, Iran’s president asserted, “The very existence of the Zionist [Israeli] regime is an insult to humankind and an affront to all world nations” (New York Times , August 17, 2012). Hezbollah’s leader recently stated that if Israel attacks Lebanon, Hezbollah will “…turn the lives of hundreds of thousands of Zionists into a living hell” with its new missile technology (Al Arabiya News, August 17, 2012). The U.S. and its allies have also coordinated an unprecedented buildup of naval and air defenses in the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz in the last six weeks, preparing for an impending attack (Star Tribune , July 3, 2012).

Long ago, God prophesied of end-time trouble in the Middle East. For decades, this Work has also instructed its readers to “watch the Middle East.” Today we see Bible prophecies coming into play that God prophesied thousands of years ago. Jerusalem is to be a “cup of trembling” and a “burdensome stone” for the surrounding nations (Zechariah 12:2-3, KJV)–something clearly apparent today. Events in the Middle East will explode one day soon.

One way the Middle East powder keg could “explode” would be with the use of electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) weapons.

I have written for some time that since Iran is NOT the prophesied King of the South that it will likely somehow be neutralized and an EMP attack from Israel could possibly do that.

Some have reported that Israel could use such weapons to drive Iran into the “stone age”:

Israel’s EMP Attack Can Send Iran Back to the Stone Age…

Israel’s dilemma is focused singly on the use of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) without informing the U.S…

So  the game-changer would be a significant EMP event that would take Iranians back to the Stone Age.

What would an EMP attack look like?

If Israel chooses one of its Jericho III missiles to detonate a single EMP warhead at high altitude over north central Iran, there will be with no blast or radiation effects on the ground.

Coupled with cyber-attacks, Iranians would not know it happened except for a massive shutdown of the electric power grid, oil refineries and a transportation gridlock. Food supply would be exhausted and communication would be largely impossible, leading to economic collapse. Similarly, the uranium enrichment centrifuges in Fordo, Natanz and widely scattered elsewhere, would freeze for decades.  http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/12017#.UDjTAqP0-aQ

Is Israel planning EMP attack on Iran?

WASHINGTON – Analysts say because Israel now believes diplomacy has failed to halt Iran’s nuclear program and the Jewish state’s very survival is at stake, Israelis have not ruled out a Jericho III missile launch to detonate a single electromagnetic pulse warhead at high altitude over central Iran…

Meanwhile, top religious and political officials in Iran have issued repeated warnings they plan to obliterate the Jewish state…

Given that Iranian sites may be hardened against a conventional military attack, several Israeli and foreign sources believe that Israel has a nuclear device to create an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, that would produce little radiation on the ground but could knock out all of Iran’s electronics.

Israel also is assessed to be able to launch nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles from its German-supplied Dolphin electric submarines that could carry a one-kiloton or more device and explode over Iran, effectively neutralizing all of Iran’s electronics.

This would include Iran’s command and control capabilities and its ability to launch ballistic missiles in retaliation to a pre-emptive Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear sites, which Western intelligence has assessed is a cover to make nuclear weapons.  http://www.wnd.com/2012/08/is-israel-planning-emp-attack-on-iran/

And Israel very well may launch an EMP attack against Iran.  How such an action would turn out is hard to be certain of as this type of EMP attack simply has not been attempted on a large-scale before.

But this does not just have to come from Israel.  Iran is believed to have the capability to deliver such weapons itself.

For some time, the USA has been aware of the potential threat of an EMP attack. Iran, as some believe, has been aware of this for some time and may be planning on using this against the USA. Notice also the following:

In written testimony delivered to the United States Senate in 2005, an EMP Commission staff member reported:

The EMP Commission sponsored a worldwide survey of foreign scientific and military literature to evaluate the knowledge, and possibly the intentions, of foreign states with respect to electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack. The survey found that the physics of EMP phenomenon and the military potential of EMP attack are widely understood in the international community, as reflected in official and unofficial writings and statements. The survey of open sources over the past decade finds that knowledge about EMP and EMP attack is evidenced in at least Britain, France, Germany, Israel, Egypt, Taiwan, Sweden, Cuba, India, Pakistan, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, Iran, North Korea, China and Russia. (Wikipedia. EMP. Accessed 07/17/12)

So for years, Iran has been believed to have sufficient knowledge for using EMP weapons for some time. And it may do so.

While I do not believe that Iran would be able to truly prevail against the USA, it seems to have plans to try (see Iranian Leader Calls for Vanishing USA and Israel from the Universe and Khamenei Has Claimed Iranian Nuclear Weapons Need for the Arrival of the 12th Imam).  And the USA could be hurt badly.  Notice the following:

The International Atomic Energy Agency has verified that Iran has test-launched ballistic missiles off ships in an exercise similar to an EMP attack.

Studies have shown that a successful EMP attack would devastate America, slaughtering up to two-thirds of the United States population within a year of the attack. Read more: KAHLILI: Iran’s radical rulers close in on the bomb – Washington Times

Iran has accelerated its forced projection and tested ballistic missiles delivery system in an EMP mode with North Korean assistance…

The reality on the ground is revealing: Iran needs only one or two nuclear bombs to start a thermonuclear war against Israel and the United States, to hasten what these religious nuts believe is the coming of the Islamic messiah.

Evidentially, a nuclear-capable Iran can unleash a single atomic bomb on Israel with simultaneous asymmetric proxy attacks in the U.S. and other western targets. But thanks to heaven – and Israel – the Islamic republic is not there yet.

In addition, intelligence sources have now indicated Iran is within two years of bringing the Islamic revolution to the U.S. in the form of an EMP attack.   http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/12017#.UDjTAqP0-aQ

An EMP attack on the United States, for example, from a 30-kiloton nuclear weapon exploded at an altitude of 62 miles, or 100 kilometers, effectively would knock out 70 percent of electrical systems up to a thousand miles in every direction. A similar explosion at a higher altitude of some 250 miles would virtually affect all electronics from Boston to Los Angeles and from Chicago to New Orleans, according to experts.  http://www.wnd.com/2012/08/is-israel-planning-emp-attack-on-iran/

It is possible that because of its potential to attack the USA with EMP-type weapons, dirty bombs, terrorism, etc., this may be why Iranian leaders have repeatedly made public statements that they would essentially eliminate the USA (see Iranian Leader Calls for Vanishing USA and Israel from the Universe and Khamenei warns America “will soon be defeated”)–yet the USA will not be eliminated by Iran.

However, the USA, despite its military strength, is vulnerable to being hurt by EMP weapons, chemical weapons, dirty bombs, terrorism, and biological weapons.  All of which Iran and/or its closest ally Syria seem to possess.  And while the USA will NOT to eliminated by this type of conflict, the USA certainly could be partially or even greatly weakened by these type of attacks.

The situation in the Middle East is dangerous and the danger level seems to be rising.  And the danger is not limited to the Middle East.

“And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37).

GCI Makes RCC Claim on the Godhead

Saturday, August 25th, 2012

COGwriter

In its latest newsletter, Grace Communion International (GCI, the group that took over the old WCG) had the following related to a message from J. Tkach:

Central Truth

The central biblical truth that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit actually shapes our faith and our lives as Christians.

This is essentially also the position of the Roman Catholic Church.  Notice what The Catholic Encyclopedia claims:

The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion (The Blessed Trinity, 1912).

Thus, GCI seems to be even more directly pushing the RCC message.  A message that is not biblical in this case.

The drawing shown at the beginning of today’s post is used by Trinitarians to explain the Trinity, even though it clearly violates laws of logic. The Trinity does not have a biblical basis, nor was it taught by the early church.

So was the trinity a central doctrine of the New Testament?  Here is what one modern historian has written about it:

Like other doctrines that became central to the faith, however, belief in the Trinity was a historical development, not a “given” from the early years of the faith. A. The basic notion of the Trinity is that there are three persons in the Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These are all equally God and of the same substance, but despite the fact there are three persons, together, they compromise only one God, indivisible in nature. B. This doctrine does not appear to be a doctrine pronounced by the historical Jesus, Paul, or any other Christian writer during the first hundred years or so of Christianity. C. It cannot be found explicitly stated in the earliest Christian writings. The only passage of the New Testament that declares the doctrine (1 John 5:7-8) was not originally part of the text but was added by doctrinally astute scribes at a later date (it is not found in any Greek manuscripts until the 11th century) (Ehrman B. From Jesus to Constantine: A History of Early Christianity, Part 2. The Teaching Company, Chantilly (VA), 2004, p. 43).

Regarding the New Testament, even a trinitarian scholar has admitted that the Bible promotes a binitarian view, and does not teach what is now considered to be the trinity:

The binitarian formulas are found in Rom. 8:11, 2 Cor. 4:14, Gal. 1:1, Eph. 1:20, 1 Tim 1:2, 1 Pet. 1:21, and 2 John 1:13…No doctrine of the Trinity in the Nicene sense is present in the New Testament…There is no doctrine of the Trinity in the strict sense in the Apostolic Fathers…(Rusch W.G. The Trinitarian Controversy. Fortress Press, Phil., 1980, pp. 2-3).

The terms trinity, threeness, or trinitarian are not found in the Bible. The Protestant reformer Martin Luther himself taught:

It is indeed true that the name “Trinity” is nowhere to be found in the Holy Scriptures, but has been conceived and invented by man. (Luther Martin. The Sermons of Martin Luther, Church Postil, 1522; III:406-421, PC Study Bible formatted electronic database Copyright © 2003, 2006 by Biblesoft, Inc. All rights reserved.)

The Catechism of the Catholic Church admits the Church (not the Bible) had to come up with terms of “philosophical” (pagan/Greek) origin to explain it::

251 In order to articulate the dogma of the Trinity, the Church had to develop its own terminology with the help of certain notions of philosophical origin: “substance,” “person,” or “hypostasis,” “relation” and so on (Catechism of the Catholic Church. Imprimatur Potest +Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Doubleday, NY 1995, p. 74).

Earliest Trinitarian History

Pagan religions sometimes had a form of a trinity of deities. This dates at least from the time of ancient Babylon:

The ancient Babylonians recognised the doctrine of a trinity, or three persons in one god—as appears from a composite god with three heads forming part of their mythology, and the use of the equilateral triangle, also, as an emblem of such trinity in unity (Beck TD. The mystical woman and the cities of the nations: or, Papal Rome and her secular satellites. 1867. Original from Oxford University, Digitized Aug 15, 2006, pp. 22-23).

The Assyrians did as well:

On one cylinder of translucent green felspar, called amazon stone, winch I believe to have been the signet, or amulet, of Sennacherib himself, is engraved the king standing in an arched frame as on the rock tablets at Bavian, and at the Nahr-el-Kelb in Syria. He holds in one hand the sacrificial mace, and raises the other in the act of adoration before the winged figure in a circle, here represented as a triad with three heads…the triune god, the supreme deity of the Assyrians, and of the Persians, their successors, in the empire of the East. Of the information as to the religious system of the Assyrians… It is difficult to understand such a system of polytheism, unless we suppose that whilst there was but one supreme god, represented sometimes under a triune form (Layard AH. Discoveries in the ruins of Nineveh and Babylon: with travels in Armenia, Kurdistan and the desert : being the result of a second expedition undertaken for the trustees of the British Museum. Murray, 1853. Original from the Bavarian State Library, Digitized Oct 20, 2009, pp. 160, 637).

Sennacherib is mentioned in the Bible (2 Kings 18:13) and reigned from about 720 BC to about 683 BC. Furthermore, notice:

Mithra, who was originally subordinate to Ormuzd, and even reduced to the third place in the triad, subsequently rose practically to the first place, supplanting Ormuzd himself. Such a process, by which the mediating member of the trinity, as the special friend and savior of men, should become first and nearest in the thoughts, and affections, and hopes of men, and hence in time first in the divine order of the gods, is most natural, and we have already found it a marked feature of the historical evolution of most of the Ethnic trinities. Thus in the Babylonian triad Marduk, the mediating sun-god, usurps the place of Ea, his father. The same was true of Vishnu-Krishna in the Hindoo trinity, who, in his capacity of god- man and mediator, reduced Brahma to almost a shadow. So Mithraism pushed Ormuzd back into a place of inferiority, or rather he was quietly displaced and forgotten. The triad was practically reduced to unity in the Mithraic faith (Paine LL. The Ethnic Trinities and Their Relations to the Christian Trinity: A Chapter in the Comparative History of Religions. Kessinger Publishing, 1901 Original from the University of California, Digitized Nov 20, 2007, p. 84).

Mithraism entered the Roman Empire about a century before the crucifixion of Jesus and became influential among the emperors, including with Emperor Constantine (see also Do You Practice Mithraism?). According to Roman Catholic sources, the term trinity, in relation to the Godhead, did not come until the late second/early third century. Yet, the idea of the trinity was apparently voiced by the heretic Montanus and developed by a famous Gnostic heretic named Valentinus in the mid-2nd Century. One of the so-called Montanist Oracles, spoken by Montanus was:

“I am the Father and the Son and the Paraclete.” (Didymus, De trinitate iii. 41. 1.) (Assembled in P. de Labriolle, La crise montaniste (1913), 34-105, by Bates College, Lewston (Maine) http://abacus.bates.edu/Faculty/Philosophy%20and%20Religion/rel_241/texts/montanism.html 01/31/06).

This is one of the first references to a trinitarian view of the Godhead (the other earliest one was from the heretic Valentinus–it is unclear which was first). The paraclete is a term used to signify the Holy Spirit (it is from the Greek term parakletos). Eusebius records (Eusebius. Church History, Book V, Chapters 18-19) that church leaders in Asia Minor and Antioch, such as Apollonius of Ephesus, that Serapion of Antioch, Apollinaris of Hierapolis, and Thraseas of Eumenia opposed the Montantist heresies (Apollinaris of Hierapolis and Thraseas of Eumenia were Quartodecimans, and Apollonius likely was as well). However, Roman Bishops would not renounce the Montantist heresy until sometime in the third century, and that after Rome accepted certain Montanus beliefs (see Montanists in The Catholic Encyclopedia)! Here is what it is recorded that a one-time Catholic bishop named Marcellus of Ancyra wrote, around the middle of the fourth century, where certain aspects of trinitarianism came from–paganism:

Now with the heresy of the Ariomaniacs, which has corrupted the Church of God…These then teach three hypostases, just as Valentinus the heresiarch first invented in the book entitled by him ‘On the Three Natures’. For he was the first to invent three hypostases and three persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and he is discovered to have filched this from Hermes and Plato (Source: Logan A. Marcellus of Ancyra (Pseudo-Anthimus), ‘On the Holy Church’: Text, Translation and Commentary. Verses 8-9. Journal of Theological Studies, NS, Volume 51, Pt. 1, April 2000, p.95 ).

Valentinus also wrote this in the heretical ‘Gospel of Truth’,

The Father uncovers his bosom, which is the Holy Spirit, revealing his secret. His secret is his Son! (Valentinus. Gospel of Truth. Verse 17. English translation by Patterson Brown).

Hence Valentinus is the earliest known professing Christian writer to make clear trinitarian claims (though he, himself, did not come up with the term trinity). It also should be noted that Valentinus was denounced by Polycarp of Asia Minor, when Polycarp visited Rome as a heretic (Irenaeus. Adversus Haeres. Book III, Chapter 3, Verse 4) and is considered to have been a heretic by Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, most Protestants, and those in the genuine Church of God.

Additional Trinitarian History

The position of the Roman Catholic Church is that the term ‘trinity’ (from the Latin trinitas) was developed 85 years after the last book of the Bible was written:

In Scripture there is as yet no single term by which the Three Divine Persons are denoted together…The word trias (of which the Latin trinitas is a translation) is first found in Theophilus of Antioch about A.D. 180…Afterwards it appears in its Latin form of trinitas in Tertullian (“De pud.” c. xxi) (The Blessed Trinity. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume XV Copyright © 1912 by Robert Appleton Company Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight).

But the claim regarding Theophilus, who wrote in Greek, is not accurate as “trinity” (as trinitas) is a Latin, not a Greek word. So, the first time it was used was by Tertullian (roughly 100 years after John finished penning the last book of the Bible).  And all should realize that Tertullian had left the Church of Rome near that time to follow Montanus, whose followers the Church of Rome condemned in the early third century. In the fourth century, debates on the Godhead got quite heated. So much so, that the Roman Emperor Constantine decided to appoint himself a lay bishop (even though he had not been baptized at that stage) and convene what has been called the first “ecumenical council” in Nicea in the year 325. According to historical accounts, the attendees at this council were split into three factions:

1) Arians – Supporters of the position of Dr. Arius, about 10% of the attendees. 2) In-Between – Those who held a position between the Arians and Proto-Trinitarians, about 75% of the attendees. Eusebius was the main spokesperson for them. 3) The Proto-Trinitarians – Those who supported the views of Athanasius, about 15% of the attendees.

Notice that even within the Catholic/Orthodox Council, the majority of attending bishops did not hold to the trinitarian view before the Council. No matter what one may feel about the truthfulness of the trinity, how can any say that the acceptance of this doctrine is necessary for Christians as it was not the apparent belief of the majority of church leaders in the early fourth century? Although Eusebius led the biggest group at this Council, after an impassioned speech by Athanasius, Emperor Constantine arose. And since he was the Emperor (plus he was dressed as a golden “angel”), his standing was noticed by the bulk of the attendees who correctly interpreted the Emperor as now supporting Athanasius (Emperor Constantine has familiar with a trinitarian viewpoint as he had practiced Mithraism, which had a type of triad leading it, see Do You Practice Mithraism?). And because of Athanasius’ speech and the Emperor’s approval, the bulk of the attendees decided to come up with a statement that the Arians could not support. This solved the Emperor’s concern about unity of his version of Christianity, and pretty much drove the Arians out. But even some of the strongest supporters of Athanasius’ position, such as Marcion of Ancyra, actually did not believe in the trinity as now taught (that is why this paper used the term “Proto-Trinitarians” above). Also notice that the Emperor Constantine was heavily involved:

Although Constantine is usually remembered for the steps he took toward making Christianity the established religion of the Roman Empire, it would not be wrong to consider him the one who inaugurated the centuries of trinitarian orthodoxy. It was he who proposed and perhaps even imposed the expression homoousis at the Council of Nicea in 325, and it was he who provided government aid to the orthodox and exerted government pressure against nonconformists. (Brown HOJ. Heresies: Heresy and Orthodoxy in the History of the Church. Hendrickson Publishers, Peabody (MA), 1988, pp. 332-333).

Thus a pagan emperor, proposed and militarily imposed, a doctrine on his own. And this did not come from the Bible into the world’s largest churches, but from a pagan (Constantine still honored the pagan sun deities after his supposed conversion to Christianity and was not even baptized into the world’s church until his death bed–and even then he insisted upon being buried in a grave dedicated to a pagan deity). However, the trinity as now taught was not completely adopted until many decades after this 325 A.D. the Council of Nicea. It was not even the necessary position of the bishops of Rome or Constantinople in the middle of the fourth century. And at least one now claimed to be Pope (Liberius) was believed to have been Semi-Arian. Notice some of what The Catholic Encyclopedia teaches:

The second Formula of Sirmium (357) stated the doctrine of the Anomoeans, or extreme Arians. Against this the Semi-Arian bishops, assembled at Ancyra, the episcopal city of their leader Basilius, issued a counter formula, asserting that the Son is in all things like the Father, afterwards approved by the Third Synod of Sirmium (358). This formula, though silent on the term “homousios“, consecrated by the Council of Nicaea, was signed by a few orthodox bishops, and probably by Pope Liberius (Benigni, Umberto. “Council of Rimini.” The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 13. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1912. 11 Jul. 2008 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/13057b.htm>). Pneumatomachi…The majority of this sect were clearly orthodox on the Consubstantiality of the Son; they had sent a deputation from the Semi-Arian council of Lampsacus (364 A.D.) to Pope Liberius, who after some hesitation acknowledged the soundness of their faith (Arendzen, John. Pneumatomachi. The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 12. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1911. 11 Jul. 2008 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12174a.htm>) Semiarians and Semiarianism A name frequently given to the conservative majority in the East in the fourth century…showing that the very name of father implies a son of like substance…rejected the Divinity of the Holy Ghost…(Semiarians and Semiarianism. The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 15. Nihil Obstat. October 1, 1912. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York. Robert Appleton Company, 1912. 26 May 2010 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/15058a.htm>)

So the scholars of the Church of Rome admit that the “conservative majority in the East” were not Trinitarians in the middle of the fourth century. There were also many “Semi-Arians” in the West at this time as well of course.

Notice that the Orthodox bishop of Constantinople, Macedonius, in the fourth century held to some form of Semi-Arian view:

Towards the middle of the fourth century, Macedonius, Bishop of Constantinople, and, after him a number of Semi-Arians, while apparently admitting the Divinity of the Word, denied that of the Holy Ghost (Forget J. Transcribed by W.S. French, Jr. Holy Ghost. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume VII. Copyright © 1910 by Robert Appleton Company. Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight. Nihil Obstat, June 1, 1910. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York).

Thus, into the middle of the fourth century, the two major leaders of the Greco-Roman churches endorsed Semi-Arian, non-trinitarian positions. There were also many leaders in other major Greco-Roman churches in the century who did not accept the trinity. Here

Here is another important semi-Arian bishop according to The Catholic Encyclopedia:

St. Cyril of Jerusalem Bishop of Jerusalem and Doctor of the Church, born about 315; died probably 18 March, 386… He appeared at the Council of Seleucia in 359, in which the Semi-Arian party was triumphant… He belonged to the Semi-Arian, or Homoean party, and is content to declare that the Son is “in all things like the Father”. (Chapman, John. St. Cyril of Jerusalem. The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 4. Nihil Obstat. Remy Lafort, Censor. Imprimatur. +John M. Farley, Archbishop of New York. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1908. 3 Feb. 2010 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/04595b.htm>)

The trinity was finally formally adopted at the Council of Constantinople in 381–though many in the Roman and Orthodox Church believed in versions of it prior to this.

To insure that people would be forced into accepting the trinity, shortly after the 381 council, Emperor Theodosius’declared:

…let us believe in the one diety of the father, Son and Holy Spirit, in equal majesty and in a holy Trinity. We authorize the followers of this law to assume the title Catholic Christians; but as for the others, since in out judgment they are foolish madmen, we decree that the shall be branded with the ignominious name of heretics, and shall not presume to give their conventicles the name of churches. They will suffer in the first place the chastisement of divine condemnation an the second the punishment of out authority, in accordance with the will of heaven shall decide to inflict…(Theodosian Code XVI.1.2. Cited in Bettenson H, ed., Documents of the Christian Church, London: Oxford University Press, 1943, p. 31).

So the trinity need the force of Roman punishment against non-trinitarians.

Though adopted, even in 381 it was not exactly the same trinity teaching as now understood. Notice the confirmation from a Protestant theologian:

The doctrine of the Trinity is fundamental for the Christian faith, even though the doctrine was not clearly formulated and generally accepted by an ecumenical council until the fourth century..The Council of Chalcedon, the decisions of which were reaffirmed at the Trullanum of 680-681, gave us the formulation of Christological doctrine we now call orthodox. (Brown HOJ. Heresies: Heresy and Orthodoxy in the History of the Church. Hendrickson Publishers, Peabody (MA), 1988, pp. 127,192-193,194).

A bishop of the Orthodox Church confirmed its late acceptance:

…the councils defined once and for all the Church’s teaching upon the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith — the Trinity and the Incarnation. All Christians agree in regarding these things as ‘mysteries’ which lie beyond human understanding and language…the first two, held in the fourth century…formulated the doctrine of the Trinity…The work of Nicea was taken up by the second Ecumenical Council, held in Constantinople in 381…While Athanasius emphasized the unity of God — Father and Son are one in essence (ousia) – the Cappadocians stressed God’s threeness: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three persons (hypostasis) (Ware T. The Orthodox Church. Penguin Books, London, 1997, pp. 20-23).

Trinity Today and the “New” WCG/GCI

Despite the fact that up until late in the fourth century, most who professed Christ did not clearly hold to a Trinitarian view of the Christian Godhead, over time (and partially due to Imperial pressure), the Trinity became accepted by the majority of those who professed Christ.

In modern times, this has happened to groups such as the old Worldwide Church of God, which is now called Grace Communion International, and is based in Southern California (although any pressure would have come from the desire to confirm to majority Protestant positions as opposed to any governmental influence).

The old Worldwide Church of God held to a Semi-Arian (sometimes referred to as a binitarian) view of the Godhead. After the death of Herbert W. Armstrong in 1986, the leadership that took over abandoned that church’s historical aversion to the Trinity. Those that disagreed with such changes to the historical Christian teachings left and many of the older leaders are now part of the Living Church of God.

Grace Communion International recently published the following:

Have you ever wondered why the doctrine of the Trinity is so important to Christian faith?

The fact that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three in one and one in three means that Jesus Christ and the Father are not separate Gods. And that means you don’t ever have to worry about what God thinks about you, how God feels about you, or what is going to happen to you when you die. (Tkach J. Trinity: More than a doctrine. GCI Together, April-May 2010)

Some may find that to be a suitable explanation, while others will realize that since the original Christian church did not teach the Trinity, it could not have been an important doctrine. But despite that, many will be observing Trinity Sunday.
