A variety of weather and other non-human occurrences are affecting the planet, and are currently in the news.  The first two I would like to mention are locusts and caterpillars:

Swarms form on the horizon
Sydney Morning Herald – Dec 11, 2008

The drought has eased in NSW but plague locust conditions have worsened.

After spring rain, 55.5 per cent of NSW was drought declared in November, down from 62.8 per cent in October, while the area declared marginal fell from 17.4 per cent to 14.3 per cent.

The same rain, however, provided feed for locusts and made it difficult to control them with aerial spraying.

The flying swarms that started to form in the Riverina and the Central West early last month have laid eggs which are expected to start hatching before Christmas.

“Unfortunately, surveillance of current plague activity is indicating a much larger new generation will start hatching,” said the Minister for Primary Industries, Ian Macdonald.

“Widespread hatching over more than 130,000 hectares is expected to peak between December 18 and the new year. Regular rainfall – while it has been good for the drought – has provided an ongoing feed supply, delayed spraying activities and discouraged locusts forming swarms large enough and dense enough to spray.” http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/swarms-form-on-the-horizon/2008/12/10/1228584929894.html

Government agencies to collaborate on Yandaran caterpillar plague

The Australian – Dec 11, 2008

QUEENSLAND government agencies and an insect expert will investigate a caterpillar infestation in the state’s southeast.

Residents of Yandaran and surrounding suburbs north of Bundaberg say a caterpillar plague has been affecting their health and lifestyle for the past 18 months…

The species is a processionary caterpillar, which is a sub-species of the bag-shelter moth.

Caterpillar hairs cause skin irritations, can make dogs sick and have been linked to horse miscarriages.

One local woman says she has to wear a protective suit to stave off the insects.                                       http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,24784363-2702,00.html

The Bible indicates that when there are a lot of grasshoppers, that God expects His people to pray to Him:

28 When there is famine in the land, pestilence or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers; when their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is; 29 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows his own burden and his own grief, and spreads out his hands to this temple: 30 then hear from heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men), 31 that they may fear You, to walk in Your ways as long as they live (2 Chronicles 6:28-31).

I would categorize what is happening in Australia as pestilence.  Notice the following scriptural warning:

23’And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, 24 then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins. 25 …when you are gathered together within your cities I will send pestilence among you (Leviticus 26:23-25).

And notice the following about weather:

Rare 50 year Arctic Blast Sets Sights On Southern California
OWSweather – Dec 8, 2008

With a week away, and a sure sign of things to come, OWSweather.com is making preparations on the server to handle the traffic from this next event. UJEAS is in line with the majority if not all the other models in keeping a near historical arctic air mass into the Southern California region…

Temperatures in Siberia, Russia will be -81 degrees this week, “said Martin. “With those type of temperatures the arctic air mass has to spill somewhere. Our answer of the exact track will become more clear this week. All residents in the mountain communities should prepare this week for very cold, winter weather, with snow.”.

Indications are a second, colder storm could hit near the 18th-22nd time-frame. The details on that will have to be sorted out. http://www.venturacountystar.com/news/2008/dec/08/rare-50-year-arctic-blast-sets-sights-on/

Drought parches much of the U.S., may get worse

CNN 12/11/08 By John Blake…

At least 36 states expect to face water shortages within the next five years, according to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office

Yet most people don’t need a federal agency to tell them there’s a water shortage. Plenty of cities have implemented water bans while state squabbles over water usage are common in some regions. What may surprise people, though, are the causes for the recent drought.

It’s not global warming, some climatologists say. The droughts are caused by rapid population growth and unwise agricultural choices. http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/12/11/drought.problem/index.html

Surprise flurries warm Houston hearts
Fluffy flakes bring delight to some, consternation to others — and tie a 64-year-old record
Houston Chronicle – Dec 10, 2008

Falling snowflakes glimmered in streetlights, so wide that they billowed to the ground like parachutes, and so tantalizing that even awestruck adults reached out their hands or stuck out their tongues to catch one.

By Wednesday evening, the flakes were big enough to hold their shape for a moment on the street before melting into the pavement, and a dusting had collected on parked cars in some parts of town.

The flurries tied a record for Houston’s earliest snowfall ever…

Paul Ramirez spent several minutes digging through his truck Wednesday evening outside the Fry’s electronics store on West Road, trying to find something he could use to scrape the ice and snow from the windshield of his truck.

“It’s really coming down,” said Ramirez, 33, as he tried dragging a large envelope across his window. “This is crazy. It’s Houston — we shouldn’t need to keep ice scrapers in our cars.” http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6156862.html

We live in perilous times.  We are near the time that Jesus called “the beginning of sorrows: (Matthew 24:8).

The end (meaning the Great Tribulation) is coming, but not for a few years.

Iraq & the King of the South

There was an interesting item in the news later today:

Iraq plans EU-style Middle East union
EUobserver – Dec 10, 2008

Iraq has unveiled plans for the creation of a regional economic and security union for the Middle East explicitly modelled on the European Union.

Official government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh announced the proposal on Tuesday (9 December) in Washington at the Institute of Peace, a US government-linked think-tank, saying that talks on the plan with the country’s neighbours were already underway.

Mr al-Dabbagh said there was “great interest” in the project, according to AFP.

Informal discussions on “Regional Economic Partnership” have reportedly been launched with Kuwait, Syria and Turkey, though not yet Iran. The aim would also to be to bring on board Jordan and Saudi Arabia and – in a subsequent phase – the Gulf states of Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, but not Israel.

The proposed bloc would look to lower trade barriers and develop joint economic projects, as well as sharing water resources and electricity. Resolving border disputes and common perspectives on combating militant extremism would also be on the agenda.

Iraq’s plan, a”vision” of Mr al-Dabbagh’s government, would also aim to improve oil and gas transit and construct roads between the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean.

“The new Iraq could convert the region into the EU model,” the UK’s Daily Telegraph quotes the Iraqi official as saying at the meeting. “Iraq is going to play a major stabilising factor,” he added.

Iraq sees a “necessity for regional security and economic co-operation,” Mr al-Dabbagh said. http://euobserver.com/9/27277

There are a couple of different frameworks in place that could lead to the prophesied King of the South (see Islam Claims Judas, Not Jesus Was Crucified and Deal Leading to Psalm 83?).  But an EU-like organization which may also, for a while, be a subset of the Union for the Mediterranean States certainly could fit that role fairly nicely.

The nations specifically discussed are consistent with those in Psalm 83 (Deal Leading to Psalm 83?) as well as those that we in the Living Church of God have suspected would support the final King of the South.

Irish Pork Problem

Pork has another problem:

Irish pork crisis may cost £1 billion and thousands of jobs

International Supermarket News – Dec 9, 2008

The crisis in Irish pork has already started to have major ramifications for workers within the entire pig industry. The SIPTU union said that up to 6,000 jobs in the industry were at risk.

Overall, 2,000 workers in the pig industry have been put on protective notice. Rosderra Meats has confirmed that it has placed 850 workers on protective notice ‘with immediate lay-off’ as a direct result of the contamination issue. The company said it had no alternative, because of the uncertainty in the industry caused by the recall of all Irish pork products.

The Association of Pigmeat Processors did not return to slaughtering yesterday as they insist they need a massive financial package to help them cope with the recall of pigmeat. The processors say they may need up to €1 billion from the Government because all of the recalled product will come back to them.

They say that legally they cannot buy a pig at the moment because they cannot quantify their financial exposure. The association was meeting the Taoiseach and the Agriculture Minister last night but no outcome is yet known…

IEA chief executive John Whelan said severe damage to the export trade was inevitable. He called on the Government and Bord Bia to support the industry and respond with ‘positive marketing’ in the aftermath of this incident. http://www.internationalsupermarketnews.com/index.php/the-news/221-irish-pork-crisis-may-cost-p1-billion-and-thousands-of-jobs

Of course, we in the Living Church of God follow the example of those in the Bible and do not eat pork.  We will also not be persuaded to do so by the intended so-called “positive marketing” intended by those in Ireland who make their livings supplying unclean animals.

Contrary to the assertions of many, no one in the entire Old or New Testaments that was called of God ever is shown to have eaten any unclean animals (see also The New Testament Church and Unclean Meats).

According to Catholic sources, the consumption of pork became acceptable after Bishop Eleutherius declared it to be acceptable:

He dispensed with the obligations of Christians to follow dietary laws of Judaic origin (The Popes: The lives of the pontiffs through 2000 years of history. Futura Edizoni, Roma, 1997, p. 5).

The above book should have said the obligations of biblical origin as the dietary restrictions began with God and not Jews (the distinction between clean and unclean animals was known by at least Noah’s time, since God so declared in Genesis 7:2-3). Perhaps it needs to be stated that no one called of God in the Old Testament is ever shown to have consumed unclean meat. Hence the Catholics (and the Protestants that follow this edict) are relying on a possible pronouncement of a bishop of Rome for justification of eating unclean meats more than they may realize.

So how come consumption of unclean meat became common?

Well in addition to the Gnostic writings (such as the falsely titled Epistle of Barnabas), the answer might partially lie in a Catholic document titled Liber Pontificalis.  Here is what the Liber Pontificalis ascribes to Bishop Eleutherius:

He also decreed that no kind of food in common use should be rejected especially by the Christian faithful, inasmuch as God created it; provided it was a rational food and fit for human kind (Book of the Pontiffs (Liber Pontificalis) 2nd edition. Translation by Raymond Davis. Liverpool University Press – Translated Texts for Historians, Liverpool, 2001, p.17).

Now, I should add that the Liber Pontificalis was composed in the fifth/sixth centuries and has a reputation, even amongst Roman Catholic scholars, for arbitrarily assigning events with certain “popes” (some of this is documented in the article What Does Rome Actually Teach About Early Church History?).

If Bishop Eleutherius did make this declaration (and it may have come later than this as Irenaeus also seemed to understand that unclean animals were prohibited for those who professed Christ, and he may have outlived Bishop Eleutherius–see The New Testament Church and Unclean Meats), it would have been about 150 years or more after Jesus was resurrected.  If unclean meats were “nailed to the cross”, one would think that Christians would not have taken over a century to know this.

PCG Defended

Gerald Flurry of the Philadelphia Church of God
Gerald Flurry

COGwriter

PCG was defended by Ray Hibbard in a cover article for Edmond Life & Leisure:

TV Report offends local church

I can certainly plead guilty of poking some fun at our broadcast news colleagues in the past but there is nothing funny about the latest slam on one of our local churches. Recently, Oklahoma City’s FOX-25 aired a two part series on the Philadelphia Church of God which is located just north of Waterloo on Bryant. Never having seen a news broadcast on FOX-25, I had to go to their web site to view the two broadcasts that upset church leadership.

Without a doubt, it was one of the worst pieces of “journalism” I have ever seen. Reporter Nick Winkler made a real effort to paint a possible line between this local church and groups such as David Koresh and the Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas. There was not an ounce of evidence to support any possible connection or similarity. FOX-25 said it stood by their story and frankly, it may have been technically correct in facts but how the story was put together and promoted gave the church leadership good reason to be upset. The Philadelphia Church of God strongly denies these “scurrilous allegations.”

It should be noted that the report aired during a sweeps period when ratings are determined. The sensational style of reporter Winkler could draw columns worth of comment. I think the Oklahoma Gazette once labeled him the “Winkavator” or perhaps it was the “Winkster” after an incident at a county courthouse and with a pistol. They even suggested a drinking game bearing his name. It was when he was with another station. http://www.edmondlifeandleisure.com/default.asp?sourceid=&smenu=81&twindow=Default&mad=No&sdetail=1759&wpage=&skeyword=&sidate=&ccat=&ccatm=&restate=&restatus=&reoption=&retype=&repmin=&repmax=&rebed=&rebath=&subname=&pform=&sc=2528&hn=edmondlifeandleisure&he=.com

While I disagree with certain misleading comments made by a PCG representative during those interviews, I felt from the very beginning that FOX 25 was unfair in its portrayal of PCG (see PCG on the News and PCG Responds to FOX 25).

Even though Gerald Flurry is a self-appointed (and false) prophet, I did not feel that PCG deserved to be portrayed as FOX 25 portrayed them.

But many Protestants are becoming more accepting of the idea.

And in California (where I live), the homosexuals seem to be quite determined to overturn the will of the voters in the recent Proposition 8 (which banned same-sex marriage).  And I suspect that ultimately the courts in California will side with the homosexuals.

Obama’s Senate Seat Leads to Governor’s Arrest

In an astounding development, the Governor of Illinois was arrested today for corruption charges, including trying to sell Barack Obama’s soon to be vacant seat in the U.S. Senate:

Illinois Gov. Blagojevich Arrested

By MIKE ROBINSON, AP
posted: 28 MINUTES AGO

CHICAGO (Dec. 9) – Federal authorities arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich Tuesday on charges that he brazenly conspired to sell or trade the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder.

Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper’s editorial board who had been critical of him fired.

A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

Otherwise, Blagojevich considered appointing himself. The affidavit said that as late as Nov. 3, he told his deputy governor that if “they’re not going to offer me anything of value I might as well take it.”

“I’m going to keep this Senate option for me a real possibility, you know, and therefore I can drive a hard bargain,” Blagojevich allegedly said later that day, according to the affidavit, which also quoted him as saying in a remark punctuated by profanity that the seat was “a valuable thing — you just don’t give it away for nothing.”

The affidavit said Blagojevich also discussed getting a substantial salary for himself at a nonprofit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions.

It said Blagojevich also talked about getting his wife placed on corporate boards where she might get $150,000 a year in director’s fees.

The amount of corruption among American government official is becoming more and more staggering.

While some have been critical about the idea that the Europeans are forming a supernational goverment with military and economic power, the following news item shows that some are starting to accept this possibility:

And now for a world government
Financial Times, London – Dec 8, 2008
By Gideon Rachman

I have never believed that there is a secret United Nations plot to take over the US. I have never seen black helicopters hovering in the sky above Montana. But, for the first time in my life, I think the formation of some sort of world government is plausible.

A “world government” would involve much more than co-operation between nations. It would be an entity with state-like characteristics, backed by a body of laws. The European Union has already set up a continental government for 27 countries, which could be a model. The EU has a supreme court, a currency, thousands of pages of law, a large civil service and the ability to deploy military force.

So could the European model go global? There are three reasons for thinking that it might.

First, it is increasingly clear that the most difficult issues facing national governments are international in nature: there is global warming, a global financial crisis and a “global war on terror”.

Second, it could be done. The transport and communications revolutions have shrunk the world so that, as Geoffrey Blainey, an eminent Australian historian, has written: “For the first time in human history, world government of some sort is now possible.” Mr Blainey foresees an attempt to form a world government at some point in the next two centuries, which is an unusually long time horizon for the average newspaper column.

But – the third point – a change in the political atmosphere suggests that “global governance” could come much sooner than that. The financial crisis and climate change are pushing national governments towards global solutions, even in countries such as China and the US that are traditionally fierce guardians of national sovereignty.

Barack Obama, America’s president-in-waiting, does not share the Bush administration’s disdain for international agreements and treaties. In his book, The Audacity of Hope, he argued that: “When the world’s sole superpower willingly restrains its power and abides by internationally agreed-upon standards of conduct, it sends a message that these are rules worth following.” The importance that Mr Obama attaches to the UN is shown by the fact that he has appointed Susan Rice, one of his closest aides, as America’s ambassador to the UN, and given her a seat in the cabinet.

A taste of the ideas doing the rounds in Obama circles is offered by a recent report from the Managing Global Insecurity project, whose small US advisory group includes John Podesta, the man heading Mr Obama’s transition team and Strobe Talbott, the president of the Brookings Institution, from which Ms Rice has just emerged…

But some European thinkers think that they recognise what is going on. Jacques Attali, an adviser to President Nicolas Sarkozy of France, argues that: “Global governance is just a euphemism for global government.” As far as he is concerned, some form of global government cannot come too soon. Mr Attali believes that the “core of the international financial crisis is that we have global financial markets and no global rule of law”.

So, it seems, everything is in place. For the first time since homo sapiens began to doodle on cave walls, there is an argument, an opportunity and a means to make serious steps towards a world government…

But this “problem” also hints at a more welcome reason why making progress on global governance will be slow sledding. Even in the EU – the heartland of law-based international government – the idea remains unpopular. The EU has suffered a series of humiliating defeats in referendums, when plans for “ever closer union” have been referred to the voters. In general, the Union has progressed fastest when far-reaching deals have been agreed by technocrats and politicians – and then pushed through without direct reference to the voters. International governance tends to be effective, only when it is anti-democratic.

The world’s most pressing political problems may indeed be international in nature, but the average citizen’s political identity remains stubbornly local. Until somebody cracks this problem, that plan for world government may have to stay locked away in a safe at the UN. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/7a03e5b6-c541-11dd-b516-000077b07658.html

And while what will happen in Europe will not quite be the government for the entire world, Europe is prophesied to rise up as the Beast power, which means that it will (for a while) highly dominate the world economically and militarily.

As far as being “antidemocratic” perhaps I should cite a private Catholic prophecy:

Rudolph Gekner (died 1675). “A great prince of the North with a most powerful army will traverse all Europe, uproot all republics, and exterminate all rebels. His sword moved by Divine power will most valiantly defend the Church of Jesus Christ. He will combat on behalf of the true orthodox faith, and shall subdue to his dominion the Mahometan Empire. A new pastor of the universal church will come from the shore (of Dalmatia) through a celestial prodigy, and in simplicity of heart adorned with the doctrines of Jesus Christ. Peace will come to the world.” (Cited in Connor, Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, p.36).

Republics are somewhat democratic and according to at least the above writing, the one called the Great Prince of the North (the King of the North in Bible prophecy) will essentially eliminate them in Europe and to a degree, elsewhere (like the USA and its Anglo-allies).

And while Europe led the formation of the Union for the Mediterranean States in July 2008 (see Deal Leading to Psalm 83?), both biblical and Catholic prophecy shows that it will invade many of the Southern members of that Union.

Conditions are setting Europe up for its prophesied end-time roles.

Why Prophecy? Because the World Will Not End Next Week Some question or downplay the role of prophecy. This article gives some of the biblical reasons what it is important and explains why the world cannot end for at least 3 1/2 years from now.
End of Mayan Calendar 2012–Might 2012 Mean Something? There is a Mayan calendar prediction for change in 2012. 2012 changes were also centuries ago predicted by the Hopi Native Americans (the Hindus may have some predictions for the next decade as well). Do these Mayan/Hindu/Hopi prophecies have any value? Why might Satan have inspired this date? Does the Dresden codex show destruction of the earth by flood? Leon Sexton’s Health Problems

Monday, December 8th, 2008

COGwriter

Tonight, the latest letter from Legacy Institute’s Leon Sexton (who is based in northern Thailand) arrived.  Here is a lot of what he reported about his health:

I want to bring you up-to-date on my physical condition. I am back in Chiang Mai after having spent over 2 months in the Bangkok Heart Hospital. God has been very merciful to me and I am able to walk with the help of a cane and am back to work at Legacy’s office. I know that you have been praying for me because I have felt the power of God’s presence all the time I was in the hospital – and even now. The doctors told me that I almost died twice. During my darkest times, I felt Jesus’ presence right there with me…

My eyesight is still not clear and my right arm has nerve problems, so I cannot type well at the computer.

Leon Sexton used to accompany the late Herbert W. Armstrong to places like Thailand.

Supreme Court Denies Obama Citizenship Challenge

Senator (now President Elect) Barack Obama

COGwriter

The news today announced that the Untied States Supreme Court will not hear an emergency case brought to it related to whether or not Barack Obama is a “natural born” U.S. citizen:

Court won’t review Obama’s eligibility to serve

Associated Press – Dec 8, 2008

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court has turned down an emergency appeal from a New Jersey man who says President-elect Barack Obama is ineligible to be president because he was a British subject at birth.

The court did not comment on its order Monday rejecting the call by Leo Donofrio of East Brunswick, N.J., to intervene in the presidential election. Donofrio says that since Obama had dual nationality at birth — his mother was American and his Kenyan father at the time was a British subject — he cannot possibly be a “natural born citizen,” one of the requirements the Constitution lists for eligibility to be president.

Donofrio also contends that two other candidates, Republican John McCain and Socialist Workers candidate Roger Calero, also are not natural-born citizens and thus ineligible to be president.

At least one other appeal over Obama’s citizenship remains at the court. Philip J. Berg of Lafayette Hill, Pa., argues that Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii as Obama says and the Hawaii secretary of state has confirmed. Berg says Obama also may be a citizen of Indonesia, where he lived as a boy. Federal courts in Pennsylvania have dismissed Berg’s lawsuit. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081208/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_obama

This comes as no surprise to me as I believe that, presuming he survives, Barack Obama will become President of the United States on January 20, 2009 (even though the court might hear yet another challenge on this).

For more on the citizenship challenge, please see the item Barack Obama is Not A Shiite.

Christmas, Pagans, & Comfort

What Do Santa and Trees Have to Do With the Christ of the Bible?

COGwriter

There was an interesting item in the news yesterday concerning comfort, pagan practices, and Christmas:

Church attendance rises as recession deepens
… Nigel Farndale reports on how the revival of religious beliefs and community spirit is helping a recession-hit population to find new comfort and joy .
Telegraph, London – Dec 7, 2008…

Apart from services and nativity plays, most of the rituals associated with the festivities are pagan: the tree, the mistletoe, the Yule log and so on. Even the date of Christ’s birth was chosen arbitrarily in the middle of the 4th century by Pope Julius I as a way of settling arguments about it once and for all. No one was even certain about the year. As the census took place every 14 years, Christ would have had to have been born in either AD6 or 8BC.

Nevertheless, in the pagan calendar the winter solstice was a time for feasting, drinking and dancing. By placing Christ’s birthday in the middle of it, the Christian church hoped to absorb the pagans and convert them at the same time. It became Christ’s Mass…

Outside the churches, in the chilly recessionary air, there seems to be a feeling that there is safety in numbers…

There is a perhaps an element of stock-taking going on; a belated recognition of how decadent and greedy we have been in Christmases past…This realisation that materialism isn’t enough to satisfy the human spirit might be a good thing. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/christmas/3630732/Church-attendance-rises-as-recession-deepens.html

Pagans have long attained comfort from their practices.  Yet, the Bible never endorses the celebration of birthdays (see Did Early Christians Celebrate Birthdays?), the December 25th concept of “Christ’s Mass” (see What Does the Catholic Church Teach About Christmas and the Holy Days?), using pagan practices to honor God (cf. Jeremiah 10:2), decorated trees (cf. Jeremiah 10:3-5, see also Christmas Trees: A Symbol of the Trinity?), Santa, nor any such things.  In the Bible, Jesus had nothing to do with any of them.

Yet, many who profess Christ derive “comfort” from such material things that we see all around us, especially at this time of year.

We are to “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).  Notice what the Apostle John wrote:

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world (1 John 2:15-16).

3 For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (3 John 3-4).

Since Christmas is not based upon truth and is at least partially intended to appeal to the “lust of the eyes” those who are serious about living “by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4) should study and pray on whether they wish to obtain comfort from God, or paganized traditions of men.

Notice that our comfort is supposed to come from SCRIPTURES and God the Father:

4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 15:4-6).

Do you really think that the Father is pleased with those who prefer to honor pagan customs in the name of His Son than to gain comfort from following the teachings of the scriptures?
