James Malm Wrong Again: The 1335 Days Have Not Begun

People Who Make Predictions Need to Be Sure that the Bible Supports those Predictions

COGwriter

In July 2009, I posted the following from an email from the often erroneous prophetic speculator James Malm:

Dear Robert
Because I had told you in the past that no changes had been made to the  70 Weeks Prophecy article, I feel responsible to inform you that the article has been expanded and edited…

I have stated that If this is the year, the Final False Prophet will be set up 1,335 days prior to the day BEFORE Pentecost in 2013.  I have said that this date will be 3 Oct, if my calculations are correct.  It turns out that the calculation was not correct.  I had made an error which has been pointed out to me and I have since rechecked this calculation.  The date should be 19 Oct 09; NOT 3 Oct 09.  This is based on the Biblical Calendar…(Malm J. Email, July 19, 2009).

Here was my response:

Dear James:
You know that I disagree with you.  I will post some of the following and once again explain part of why I feel that your dates are in error.
Eventually, perhaps you will relook into your situation and realize that God wants the Philadelphians together and those who make themselves independent are leaning to their own understanding too much.
Regards,
Bob Thiel

Well, yesterday was October 19, 2009 and despite James Malm’s calculations, the 1335 days did not start and the False Prophet did not rise up.  James Malm is in error again.

In August 2008, in response to my earlier posts related to him, James Malm contacted me and issued me a challenge (see James Malm Challenges COGwriter).  He then later somewhat admitted that he was in error, but then claimed:

The only possible years for the 1335 days to begin in the forseeable future are 2008 or 2009…

In short the last day of the 1335 days may occur on the day before Pentecost, making the Feast of Pentecost representative of a NEW BEGINNING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD. If this is true, and I shall study it further; the final False Prophet will be set up on 3 Oct 2009! (Malm. J. 2008 and Prophecy, 30 SEP 08).

James Malm has been wrong in the past and does not seem to like it when I warn readers in advance that his predictions are essentially from his own imagination and tend to be inconsistent with what the Bible teaches.

Apparently in his latest response, he has gone so far as to now inaccurately claim that I am a false prophet.  Notice something James Malm posted recently:

Robert Thiel: A False Prophet Unmasked

Robert Thiel’s new book: 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect; has come out on 15 Sep 2009. Here is the product description from Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/2012-Rise-Secret-Sect-Thiel/dp/0984087109/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t …

It is quite clear that Robert Thiel who runs a blog at: cogwriter; has thrown the Bible into a blender with every pagan prophecy he could find and created an appalling atrocity against the word of God.

But of course, I am not a false prophet (nor have I claimed to be a prophet).  Nor have I created an “atrocity against the word of God” (my writings support scripture).  Nor have I done anything different than the Apostle Paul who quoted pagan poets to get certain points across.  Furthermore, all should realize that Jesus said to “watch” and I believe that this does include watching what others believe will happen (which is why, for one example, my book he has misjudged explains why the pre-tribulation rapture hypothesis is in error).

The real reason for James’ post against me seems to be that I have sometimes provided quotes and biblical proof as to why he must be in error (it seems unlikely that he actually read the book as his conclusions suggest ignorance of its contents and conclusions, though his biases would likely affect his conclusions even if he had read it).  And James Malm remains in error as the 1335 days could not start in 2008 nor 2009 as he has insisted.

However, instead of publicly repenting of his errors, his tactic seems to be to try to discredit me, even though I have not made his type of errors.

As I have mentioned in many posts, because the deal in Daniel 9:27 has not yet occurred, it is not possible for the 1335 days to begin prior to the year 2013 (thus I have long disagreed with James Malm).  Furthermore, as there still is NO King of the North, NO King of the South, AND Europe does not have the military might it needs yet, etc., it is simply not biblically possible for the 1335 days to begin this year.  Furthermore, Matthew 24:14 has not, in my opinion, been fulfilled enough for the end to come.  And while events to fulfill those biblical requirements are in progress, they are simply not far enough along for James Malm to possibly be right.  His predictions have been repeatedly been shown at this page to be false.

And apparently, because he has repeatedly been shown to be wrong, he has stooped to the level of falsely declaring that I am “a false prophet”.  This is shameful, but apparently must be expected in these end times.

Those interested in learning the truth about prophetic matters related to the end and/or the 1335 days may wish to study the following:

Who is the King of the North? Is there one? Do biblical and Roman Catholic prophecies point to the same leader? Should he be followed? Who will be the King of the North discussed in Daniel 11? Is a nuclear attack prophesied to happen to the English-speaking peoples of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand? When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? When does the Bible show that economic collapse will affect the United States?
Is There A Future King of the South? Some no longer believe there needs to be. Might Egypt, Islam, Iran, Arabs, or Ethiopia be involved? What does the Bible say?
Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2009, 2010, or 2011? Can the Great Tribulation begin today? What happens before in the “beginning of sorrows”? What happens in the Great Tribulation and the Day of the Lord? When is the earliest that the Great Tribulation can begin? What is the Day of the Lord?

Pope Benedict Says European Union Cannot Succeed Without Essentially Catholic Values

Pope Benedict

Pope Benedict XVI

The Pope says that the European Union cannot succeed without recognizing its Catholic-Christian values:

Pope says Europe needs Christian values to prosper, help others
CNS – Oct 19, 2009
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — If European unity is based only on geography and economics, it cannot succeed in promoting the common good of all Europe’s citizens and in helping the rest of the world, Pope Benedict XVI said. The recognition of the dignity of the human person and the obligation to work for the common good — values Christianity fostered on the continent — are what inspired the movement toward European unity and are the only guarantee of its success, the pope said Oct. 19 in welcoming Yves Gazzo as the new head of the European Commission’s delegation to the Holy See.Gazzo defined the European Union as a “zone of peace and stability which comprises 27 states with the same core values.”

Pope Benedict said the European Union did not bring those values to the 27 member countries, “but rather it is these shared values that have given birth to and were like a gravitational force” that drew the countries together and inspired them to form a union.

“When the church recalls the Christian roots of Europe, it is not seeking a special status for itself,” the pope said. Instead, it is calling Europeans to remember that the values that brought peace to the continent and freedom and dignity to its people must be allowed to continue nourishing it.

“The immense intellectual, cultural and economic resources of the continent will continue to bear fruit as long as they are fertilized by the transcendent vision of the human person, which is the most important treasure of European heritage,” he said.

The European Union is right to promote a better economic situation and improved social conditions for all the continent’s people, the pope said, but the values shared by most Europeans have a broader scope.

Joint efforts are needed to safeguard the environment and, especially, to give “the vital and necessary support to human life from conception to natural death and to the family founded on marriage between one man and one woman,” he said.

“Europe will not truly be herself if she cannot keep the originality that made her great,” the pope said. He encouraged the continent to promote the “holistic development of people that the Catholic Church considers to be the only way to remedy the imbalances present in our world.

This is not a surprise as the Vatican has long been pushing for some reference to Christianity in any European “constitution”.

But Bible prophecy indicates that the rising European Beast power will have a religious element, and probably one that calls itself  “Catholic”.  And that this is not going to be good.

Another Storm/Typhoon to the Philippines?

It has been a difficult month for the Philippines, and it appears that another typhoon may hit:

Third Typhoon Threatens Philippines

October 19, 2009

The Philippines, already devastated by deadly floods from two recent tropical cyclones, is bracing for yet a third storm, as typhoon Lupit approaches the island chain.

The most recent bulletin from catastrophe modeler Risk Management Solutions warns that Lupit “has continued to intensify over the weekend and as of this morning was located approximately 870 miles (1,395 km) east northeast of Manila, Philippines as a category 4 storm.”

Lupit is moving in a northwest direction and is expected to continue for the next 12 hours before taking a more southwest direction towards the northern Philippines. The latest joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast indicates that Lupit will make landfall in northern Luzon Island on Thursday, 22 October.

However, RMS also indicated that a “slight deviation to the north would mean that Lupit may avoid a direct impact with the Philippines,” but it is nonetheless expected to “bring heavy rainfall to northern Luzon later in the week.  http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2009/10/19/104624.htm

Hundreds have died and thousands (if not millions) have been displaced by the previous storms and flooding.

Catholics and Protestants Approve and Condemn Halloween

Halloween in Ireland

A Halloween scene in Dublin, Ireland.

COGwriter

Halloween was NOT one of the early festival observed by the apostolic church.  Practices associated with pagan religions were condemned by early Christians.

However, over time, this changed amongst the Catholics of Rome and its Protestant daughters.

Notice the following:

The fantasy and folklore of All Hallows
ABC TV, KTNV, Las Vegas – Oct 12, 2009 By Jack Santino

Samhain became the Halloween we are familiar with when Christian missionaries attempted to change the religious practices of the Celtic people. In the early centuries of the first millennium A.D., before missionaries such as St. Patrick and St. Columcille converted them to Christianity, the Celts practiced an elaborate religion through their priestly caste, the Druids, who were priests, poets, scientists and scholars all at once. As religious leaders, ritual specialists, and bearers of learning, the Druids were not unlike the very missionaries and monks who were to Christianize their people and brand them evil devil worshippers.

As a result of their efforts to wipe out “pagan” holidays, such as Samhain, the Christians succeeded in effecting major transformations in it. In 601 A.D. Pope Gregory the First issued a now famous edict to his missionaries concerning the native beliefs and customs of the peoples he hoped to convert. Rather than try to obliterate native peoples’ customs and beliefs, the pope instructed his missionaries to use them: if a group of people worshipped a tree, rather than cut it down, he advised them to consecrate it to Christ and allow its continued worship.

In terms of spreading Christianity, this was a brilliant concept and it became a basic approach used in Catholic missionary work. Church holy days were purposely set to coincide with native holy days. Christmas, for instance, was assigned the arbitrary date of December 25th because it corresponded with the mid-winter celebration of many peoples. Likewise, St. John’s Day was set on the summer solstice.

Samhain, with its emphasis on the supernatural, was decidedly pagan. While missionaries identified their holy days with those observed by the Celts, they branded the earlier religion’s supernatural deities as evil, and associated them with the devil. As representatives of the rival religion, Druids were considered evil worshippers of devilish or demonic gods and spirits. http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11289142

Even though it endorses it, according to Christianity Today, Halloween is clearly of pagan origin:

More than a thousand years ago Christians confronted pagan rites appeasing the lord of death and evil spirits. Halloween’s unsavory beginnings preceded Christ’s birth when the druids, in what is now Britain and France, observed the end of summer with sacrifices to the gods. It was the beginning of the Celtic year, and they believed Samhain, the lord of death, sent evil spirits abroad to attack humans, who could escape only by assuming disguises and looking like evil spirits themselves. The waning of the sun and the approach of dark winter made the evil spirits rejoice and play nasty tricks. Most of our Halloween practices can be traced back to the old pagan rites and superstitions…

Chrysostom tells us that as early as the fourth century, the Eastern church celebrated a festival in honor of all saints…Some people question the whole idea of co-opting pagan festivals and injecting them with biblical values. Did moving the celebration to November to coincide with the druidic practices of the recently conquered Scandinavians simply lay a thin Christian veneer over a pagan celebration? Have we really succeeded in co-opting Christmas and Easter, or have neopagans taken them back with Easter bunnies and reindeer? In a sense, it’s always been the same debate: do we ignore a pagan romp, merge with it, attack it, or cover it up with seasonal fun?…

However we must never be superficial about it. Evil exists. It impinges on our world. Jesus, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, was never naive about evil. Some, hearing the call for celebration of the light, would reassure all with a Disneyesque church production on heaven’s delights.

Unfortunately, the more gruesome aspects of Halloween observances carry a certain authenticity…

Those who feel squeamish about immature children identifying with evil should not be too lightly dismissed. Nor is it necessarily healthy for witches to be depicted as darling little black-magic miscreants, as if all evil were simply a silly folklore heritage for our enlightened contemporary amusement…(Myra H. Is Halloween a Witches Brew? Christianity Today, October 22, 1982. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2000/octoberweb-only/42.0.html verfied 10/18/07).

Of course, some Catholics and Protestants do condemn Halloween.

A Protestant group recently condemned Halloween:

Church claims Halloween trick or treaters ‘side with the Devil’
Daily Mail, UK – Oct 15, 2009

For many children it is simply the time of the year to don fancy dress in the home or charming the neighbours out of a few sweets.

But a church magazine has shocked parents by warning their children would be ‘siding with the devil’ if they go trick or treating this Halloween.

The article, called Halloween Isn’t a Treat – Don’t Be Tricked, warns parents trick or treating was amounted to ‘extortion and blackmail’ and ‘condemned as criminal the rest of the year’.

Residents in the picturesque Vale of Belvoir, which straddles the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire border, were told in the article that the evening of October 31 was simply a ‘concentration on evil’ which made ‘fun of potentially dangerous situations’.

The article appeared in the Belvoir Angel magazine, which is distributed by the Vale of Belvoir benefice, a group of nine parish churches in the area.

But it’s sparked anger in local villages, where residents described it as offensive and upsetting.

Mariel Heald, a mother-of-four who lives in Stathern, Leicestershire, said: ‘The article is so intense, saying that anyone trick or treating is Devil-worshipping. We don’t think of it that way, it’s just a bit of fun…

The article says: ‘On this evening (Halloween), normally law-abiding people damage the property of those whom they should be good neighbours.

‘In some cases, they bring fear, especially to the elderly.

‘The practice of “trick o’ treat”, which is only using extortion and blackmail to prevent vandalism, is condemned as criminal the rest of the year.

“Celebrating Halloween means we are siding along with the Devil and all his works.”…

Peter Briant, editor of the Belvoir Angel, said the article had been written by a member of a local Christian group and had been approved by a team vicar before being published.

He added: “It is a warning that it can be dangerous. It is a slippery slope. It opens doors for things. If people don’t like it, that’s their opinion.”

Earlier this year a Catholic church in Stockport, Greater Manchester, cancelled a booking by a coven of witches for a ball at its social club which was scheduled for Halloween, after ruling the event was not in keeping with the church’s ethos.

In 2007,  the Rt Rev David Gillett, Bishop of Bolton, launched a campaign to rebrand Halloween as a ‘triumph of good over evil’ after declaring the occasion had been hijacked by yobs and turned into the ‘anti-social event of the year’.

Halloween’s origins date back 2,000 years to the Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the start of their new year on November 1.

Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred.

The tradition of trick or treating crossed the Atlantic from America but is believed to have its origins in early All Souls’ Day parades in England. During the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called ‘soul cakes’ in return for their promise to pray for the family’s dead relatives.

The practice, which was referred to as ‘going a-souling’ was eventually taken up by children.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1220630/Church-claims-Halloween-trick-treaters-Devil.html

Interestingly, the powerful Roman Catholic archdiocese in Mexico City condemned Halloween observance as pagan in 2007, though it is still being observed by practicing Catholics there:

Mexico’s Roman Catholic church slammed Halloween as “damaging and against the faith” on Monday, as conservatives sought to stem celebration of the ghouls-and-goblins holiday and return to the country’s traditional Day of the Dead.

The U.S.-style holiday has made broad inroads in Mexico, with monster costumes almost as widely sold as the marigold flowers traditionally used to decorate relatives’ graves during Nov. 1-2 Day of the Dead ceremonies, when families build altars and leave food, drink and flowers for the dearly departed.

“Those who celebrate Halloween are worshipping a culture of death that is the product of a mix of pagan customs,” the Archdiocese of Mexico published in an article on its Web site Monday. “The worst thing is that this celebration has been identified with neo-pagans, Satanism and occult worship.”

The archdiocese urged parents not to let their children wear Halloween costumes or go trick-or-treating — instead suggesting Sunday school classes to “teach them the negative things about Halloween,” costume parties where children can dress up as Biblical characters, and candy bags complete with instructions to give friends a piece while telling them “God loves you.”…

Pre-Hispanic cultures celebrated a similar holiday in August, but after the Spanish conquest, historians say the date was changed to Nov. 1 to coincide with the Catholic holiday…

In another article, Onesimo Herrera-Flores complained that “Halloween, for a variety of reasons, has imposed itself on other nations, displacing native customs.”

Celebrating Halloween, he said, citing a church authority, is “like inviting Satan into your home.”  (Mexico’s Catholic church slams Halloween; conservatives call for return to Day of Dead. Halloween is pagan and leaders in many professing Christian churches know this.

Christians faithful to the original practices of Jesus and the Apostles do not observe Halloween.

LCG: Obama and Babylon

In his latest commentary, LCG’s Wyatt Ciesielka wrote:

Nimrod’s promise

By Wyatt Ciesielka | Saturday, October 17, 2009
While it is doubtful that President Obama even knows about the Tomorrow’s World Bible Study Course, his September 25, 2009 speech on the accomplishments of the recent G20 summit contained nearly identical language to what the Living Church of God published more than nine years ago, and echoed Nimrod’s promises from four millennia past.
The Tomorrow’s World Bible Study Course Lesson 3 is titled, “Can you understand Bible Prophecy?” and explains topics ranging from the four ancient kingdoms of Daniel 2 (the Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Greco-Macedonians, and Romans) to the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse.  The reader is then guided through a study of the end-time, worldwide trading combine identified in Revelation 18:9-21 and Ezekiel 27, commonly called “Babylon the Great.”  The Bible reveals that this final, world-dominating empire is in fact a final revival of ancient Babylon.  Its roots and spiritual heritage are founded in ancient Babylon; the first of the four kingdoms of Daniel 2.

Referring to this end-time system, Bible Study Course Lesson 3 states: “The end-time manifestation of Babylon will promise what Nimrod promised the human family at the Tower of Babel: unity, security and prosperity.  This is what Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, and Caesar Augustus, each in his turn, also offered” (page 11).

Speaking of confronting world challenges through international governance, President Obama said:  But we leave here today more confident and more united in the common effort of advancing security and prosperity for all of our people” (President Obama, September 25, 2009 Pittsburgh speech at the G-20 news conference).

While the G20 is not “Babylon the Great,” there is nothing wrong with “unity, security and prosperity,” and President Obama appears to be a well-intended man trying to deal with complex world problems. The reality is that in the coming years all institutions and nations will become increasingly dominated by Babylon the Great.  And for unity, security and prosperity, Babylon the Great will require sovereignty, freedom and religious submission

Eventually, Babylon the Great will use its economic and military might to attempt to enforce complete economic, political, military and religious submission.  This will lead many to accept the Mark of the Beast, which is to reject God’s laws, His Holy Days, and His sign of obedience – the Sabbath – and is to submit to this coming Babylonish system.

As Mr. Armstrong wrote decades ago, “You must soon choose whom you will obey – this coming Roman Empire resurrected by a United States of Europe, ruled by traditional Christianity – or whether you shall obey God! (Who or What is the Prophetic Beast?, 1960 edition, page 35).”

As I have written since he was first elected, President Obama appears destined to enable the rise of the King of the North (the “daughter of Babylon”) and the King of the South (an Arabic-Muslim confederation).

And he has taken steps that are leading in that direction.

NASA: World Will Not End in 2012

Nasa: world will not end in 2012
A Nasa scientist has condemned film producers over a viral marketing campaign that suggests the world will come to and end in 2012.
Telegraph, London – Oct 17, 2009   by Nick Allen in Los Angeles

Sony Pictures set up a website for an organisation called the Institute for Human Continuity which predicts a cataclysmic denouement for Earth three years from now.

It suggests that “after two decades of rigorous research from the world’s top astronomers, mathematicians, geologists, physicists, engineers, futurists, we know that in 2012 a series of cataclysmic forces will wreak havoc on our planet”.

It even details how elections have begun for the leader of the post-2102 world, offers survival kits and asks people to sign up to a lottery to be saved.

In fact, the website is a vehicle for promoting 2012 – a disaster movie about the end of the world based on predictions in the Mayan calendar.

It stars John Cusack and is directed by Roland Emmerich, who was behind the blockbusters Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. The film will include scenes of a tsunami washing an aircraft carrier into the White House and Los Angeles falling into the sea.

According to the website scientists have been tracking a previously unknown Planet X which is on the edge of the solar system and on a collision course with Earth.

But the site has been so successful that hundreds of people have been convinced that something terrible is about to befall the planet.

Dr David Morrison, a senior scientist at Nasa’s Astrobiology Institute, said he had received more than 1,000 inquiries from worried members of the public.

That included teenagers saying they would rather commit suicide than witness the world end. Dr Morrison said the website was “ethically wrong”. But Vikki Luya, Sony’s publicity director said: “It is very clear that this site is connected to a fictional movie. This can readily be seen in the logos on the site.”

And while the NASA is correct, it is unlikely to realize that the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are likely to cease being nations shortly after 2012.

EU, Not USA, Gets Deal With Korea

Flag of Korea, 1889

COGwriter

The European Union continued to expand its influence this week with an important trade deal with South Korea:

EU Grabs Korea Trade Pact That Was Ours

Investors Business Daily – Oct 16, 2009
Europe just walked off with the second-biggest trade deal in history with South Korea, bringing a fresh $26 billion to both economies and extending their clout globally. It’s a prize that could have been ours.Welcome to the new America, the land of the left behind.
As the Obama administration dithers for the eighth straight month about three pending free-trade treaties, those dust clouds you see are Europe taking off and running with the big one — South Korea.Late Thursday, Europe completed a free-trade pact with Korea in which 99% of all tariffs will be scrapped within five years. The two blocs already do business totaling $98 billion, and this deal is expected to tack on another $26 billion.

Products affected include machine tool parts, pharmaceuticals and agricultural produce. All are goods that American companies also make, but they still shell out 56% in tariffs.

For Europe, the deal with Korea was easy. The U.S. had already negotiated a trade pact of its own that was ready to go in 2006. Details of the EU-Korea treaty are nearly identical, so it’s obvious the Europeans just Xeroxed the U.S.-Korea pact and will now walk off with the spoils.

The EU-Korea treaty is the biggest since the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement. South Korea is the world’s 15th-largest economy, and the 27-nation European Union is the biggest bloc.

A U.S. in the throes of recession could use that kind of market opening. And with the dollar tumbling, it would be in the middle of an export boom if the treaty went through.

The EU-Korea pact is expected to take effect next June. Media reports say Congress won’t take up U.S. free-trade agreements with Korea (or Colombia and Panama, for that matter) until 2011 at the earliest. That’s time enough for Europe to snap up our market share. No wonder the Europeans are smiling.

This isn’t the only thing they’re cooking up. EU trade pacts are also in the works with India and the Asian Tiger states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) — Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Burma, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. And talks with Pakistan (with a GDP ranked 48th) start Oct. 19.

Other nations are doing the same. China, Japan and South Korea are creating their own economic zone, South Korea and Colombia have begun talks for a free-trade pact, Korea is holding talks with Peru, and Australia is pushing for free trade with India.

The Early Faithful Christians in Jerusalem Never Compromised

Jerusalem

It never ceases to amaze me how theologians can dismiss the fact that the early Christian Church clearly held practices that are considered to be Jewish, yet the mainstream churches (by and large) overlook this and fail to have the same practices.

Although they have their own biases, the Protestant theologians Philip Schaff and Johann Gieseler correctly noted:

The Jewish Christians, at least in Palestine, conformed as closely as possible to the venerable forms of the cultus of their fathers, which in truth were divinely ordained, and were an expressive type of the Christian worship. So far as we know, they scrupulously observed the Sabbath, the annual Jewish feasts, the hours of daily prayer, and the whole Mosaic ritual (Schaff, Philip, History of the Christian Church, Chapter 9. Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc. 1997. This material has been carefully compared, corrected¸ and emended according to the 1910 edition of Charles Scribner’s Sons by The Electronic Bible Society, Dallas, TX, 1998.)

While the Jewish Christians of Palestine retained the entire Mosaic law, and consequently the Jewish festivals, the Gentile Christians observed also the Sabbath and the passover (1 Cor. v. 6-8), with reference to the last scenes of Jesus’ life, but without Jewish superstition (Gal. iv. 10 ; Col. ii. 16) (Gieseler, Johann Karl Ludwig. A text-book of church history, Volume I, Chapter II. New York : Harper & brothers. Date 1857-80).

In other words, it is known that the true early Christians in Judea did keep the Sabbath and God’s biblical Holy Days.

Eusebius states this about the succession of early leaders in Jerusalem:

The chronology of the bishops of Jerusalem I have nowhere found preserved in writing; for tradition says that they were all short lived…The first, then, was James, the so-called brother of the Lord; the second, Symeon; the third, Justus; the fourth, Zacchaeus; the fifth, Tobias; the sixth, Benjamin; the seventh, John; the eighth, Matthias; the ninth, Philip; the tenth, Seneca; the eleventh, Justus; the twelfth, Levi; the thirteenth, Ephres; the fourteenth, Joseph; and finally, the fifteenth, Judas. These are the bishops of Jerusalem that lived between the age of the apostles and the time referred to, all of them belonging to the circumcision (Eusebius. Church History, Book IV, Chapter 5. Translated by Arthur Cushman McGiffert. Excerpted from Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Series Two, Volume 1. Edited by Philip Schaff and Henry Wace. American Edition, 1890. Online Edition Copyright © 2004 by K. Knight).

However, this did not last as this church was eliminated. The Catholic Encyclopedia of 1907 notes:

The shortest-lived Apostolic Church is that of Jerusalem. In 130 the Holy City was destroyed by Hadrian, and a new town, Ælia Capitolina, erected on its site (Wilhelm J. Transcribed by Donald J. Boon. Apostolic Succession. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume I. Copyright © 1907 by Robert Appleton Company. Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight. Nihil Obstat, March 1, 1907. Remy Lafort, S.T.D., Censor. Imprimatur. +John Cardinal Farley, Archbishop of New York).

And while is now believed that Ælia Capitolina was erected in 135 (as opposed to 130 since the Bar Kaba revolt was from 132-135 A.D.), as the true Christians had to flee from Jerusalem then (some Greeks, apparently led by Marcus, who were not considered by Hadrian to be close to the apostolic Christianity that had been in Jerusalem, did go there, but again they were not faithful to the original teachings, more information is in the article The Ephesus Church Era), it is clear that Catholic scholars have dismissed the idea of unbroken apostolic succession from Jerusalem.

The Orthodox saint Irenaeus specifically seems to have eliminated Jerusalem as being faithful by his time (circa 180) as he wrote:

Further, also, concerning Jerusalem and the Lord, they venture to assert that, if it had been “the city of the great King,” it would not have been deserted. This is just as if any one should say, that if straw were a creation of God, it would never part company with the wheat; and that the vine twigs, if made by God, never would be lopped away and deprived of the clusters…The fruit, therefore, having been sown throughout all the world, she (Jerusalem) was deservedly forsaken, and those things which had formerly brought forth fruit abundantly were taken away; for from these, according to the flesh, were Christ and the apostles enabled to bring forth fruit. But now these are no longer useful for bringing forth fruit. For all things which have a beginning in time must of course have an end in time also (Irenaeus. Adversus haereses, Book IV, Chapter IV, Verse 1).

So while the Orthodox also consider Irenaeus to be a saint and Jerusalem to be one of the five “Apostolic Sees”, Irenaeus basically taught that God was finished using Jerusalem as a type of headquarters in this age.  Irenaeus’ “forsaken” statement is probably referring to those that fled Jerusalem prior to its destruction in 70 A.D. or at the latest 135 A.D.

Furthermore, note what happened in Jerusalem according to the noted historian E. Gibbon:

The first fifteen bishops of Jerusalem were all circumcised Jews; and the congregation over which they presided united the law of Moses with the doctrine of Christ. It was natural that the primitive tradition of a church which was founded only forty days after the death of Christ, and was governed almost as many years under the immediate inspection of his apostle, should be received as the standard of orthodoxy. The distant churches very frequently appealed to the authority of their venerable Parent, and relieved her distresses by a liberal contribution of alms…

The Nazarenes retired from the ruins of Jerusalem to the little town of Pella beyond the Jordan, where that ancient church languished above sixty years in solitude and obscurity. They still enjoyed the comfort of making frequent and devout visits to the Holy City, and the hope of being one day restored to those seats which both nature and religion taught them to love as well as to revere. But at length, under the reign of Hadrian, the desperate fanaticism of the Jews filled up the measure of their calamities; and the Romans, exasperated by their repeated rebellions, exercised the rights of victory with unusual rigour. The emperor founded, under the name of Alia Capitolina, a new city on Mount Sion, to which he gave the privileges of a colony; and denouncing the severest penalties against any of the Jewish people who should dare to approach its precincts, he fixed a vigilant garrison of a Roman cohort to enforce the execution of his orders. The Nazarenes had only one way left to escape the common proscription, and the force of truth was on this occasion assisted by the influence of temporal advantages.

They elected Marcus for their bishop, a prelate of the race of the Gentiles, and most probably a native either of Italy or of some of the Latin provinces. At his persuasion the most considerable part of the congregation renounced the Mosaic law, in the practice of which they had persevered above a century. By this sacrifice of their habits and prejudices they purchased a free admission into the colony of Hadrian

When the name and honours of the church of Jerusalem had been restored to Mount Sion, the crimes of heresy and schism were imputed to the obscure remnant of the Nazarenes which refused to accompany their Latin bishop. They still preserved their former habitation of Pella, spread themselves into the villages adjacent to Damascus, and formed an inconsiderable church in the city of Bercea, or, as it is now called, of Aleppo, in Syria. The name of Nazarenes was deemed too honourable for those Christian Jews, and they soon received, from the supposed poverty of their understanding, as well as of their condition, the contemptuous epithet of Ebionites…The unfortunate Ebionites, rejected from one religion as apostates, and from the other as heretics, found themselves compelled to assume a more decided character; and although some traces of that obsolete sect may be discovered as late as the fourth century, they insensibly melted away either into the church or the synagogue…

It has been remarked with more ingenuity than truth that the virgin purity of the church was never violated by schism or heresy before the reign of Trajan or Hadrian, about one hundred years after the death of Christ (Gibbon E. Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Volume I, Chapter XV, Section I. ca. 1776-1788).

It should be noted that, because of this revolt, Emperor Hadrian outlawed many practices considered to be Jewish. The Christians in Judea had a decision to make. They either could continue to keep the Sabbath and the rest of God’s law and flee or they could compromise and support a religious leader who would not keep the Sabbath, etc.

This seems to be consistent with an Arab account of what happened.  The following was written originally in Arabic by Abd al-Jabbar:

(71a) ‘After him’, his disciples (axhab) were with the Jews and the Children of Israel in the latter’s synagogues and observed the prayers and the feasts of (the Jews) in the same place as the latter. (However) there was a disagreement between them and the Jews with regard to Christ.

The Romans (al-Rum) reigned over them. The Christians (used to) complain to the Romans about the Jews, showed them their own weakness and appealed to their pity. And the Romans did pity them. This (used) to happen frequently. And the Romans said to the Christians: “Between us and the Jews there is a pact which (obliges us) not to change their religious laws (adyan). But if you would abandon their laws and separate yourselves from them, praying as we do (while facing) the East, eating (the things) we eat, and regarding as permissible that which we consider as such, we should help you and make you powerful, and the Jews would find no way (to harm you). On the contrary, you would be more powerful than they.”

The Christians answered: “We will do this.”

(And the Romans) said: “Go, fetch your companions, and bring your Book (kitab).” (The Christians) went to their companions, informed them of (what had taken place) between them and the Romans and said to them: “Bring the Gospel (al-injil), and stand up so that we should go to them.”

But these (companions) said to them: “You have done ill. We are not permitted (to let) the Romans pollute the Gospel. In giving a favourable answer to the Romans, you have accordingly departed from the religion. We are (therefore) no longer permitted to associate with you; on the contrary, we are obliged to declare that there is nothing in common between us and you;” and they prevented their (taking possession of) the Gospel or gaining access to it. In consequence a violent quarrel (broke out) between (the two groups). Those (mentioned in the first place) went back to the Romans and said to them: “Help us against these companions of ours before (helping us) against the Jews, and take away from them on our behalf our Book (kitab).” Thereupon (the companions of whom they had spoken) fled the country. And the Romans wrote concerning them to their governors in the districts of Mosul and in the Jazirat al-’Arab. Accordingly, a search was made for them; some (qawm) were caught and burned, others (qawm) were killed.” (Pines S. The Jewish Christians of the Early Centuries of Christianity according to a New Source. Proceedings of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Volume II, No.13; 1966. Jerusalem, pp. 14-15).

The above is interesting for a number of reasons. It shows that there were two group that professed Christ then in Jerusalem. One called “Christians” above, and the other (the faithful ones) called “companions”. The fact that the companions would no longer associate with the compromisers (who the Muslims called “Christians”) showed that in whatever area the above occurred in, there were definitely two groups.  It is also of interest to note that the Arab account suggests that the faithful may have had the books of the New Testament, while the others did not.

It is a fact that the Romans made a deal with those who were willing to renounce original Christianity in Jerusalem in 135 A.D. (see The Ephesus Church Era). It is possible that the above account is related to that (or may have been what led to the 135 deal).

It is also a fact that the original faithful Christian Church had practices that many now consider to be Jewish.  Was the true Church really supposed to change?  Was it to embrace non-biblical practices or retain those of Christ and the original apostles?

While the answer should be obvious, most theologians seem to have no clue.

Those interested in learning more should carefully and prayerfully study the following:

European Union Tower of Babel Poster

PCG reported:

Macedonia Ready to Start EU Membership Talks
October 15, 2009 | From theTrumpet.com

The European Union is wrapping up its expansion in the Balkans. The small republic of Macedonia was told it was ready to start membership talks in a European Commission assessment released October 14.

This is welcome news in Macedonia, where more than 90 percent of the people support their country’s efforts to integrate with Europe, according to a recent survey by the International Republican Institute.

“We are now able to recommend the opening of accession negotiations with the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia,” EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn told reporters at a news conference in Brussels.

EC: Macedonia ready for entry talks

…the European Commission (EC) told Macedonia on Wednesday (October 14th) that it is ready to begin its accession talks with Brussels…

Potential EU candidates Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia are making uneven progress and have a lot more to do to meet EU requirements, according to the commission. http://www.setimes.com/cocoon/setimes/xhtml/en_GB/features/setimes/features/2009/10/15/feature-01

Thus, even more countries are hoping to be part of the EU.

The Beast of the final Babylon is growing right before our eyes (though ultimately it will fall, Revelation 18).  And although there will be structural changes to the EU, it is growing in economic and political power.  And behind the scenes (to a degree) military power (though bureaucracy and other factors have misled many to discount this area).

A European power that will not initially intend to destroy, but still will per Isaiah 10.

Dollar Losing Reserve Status, EU Becoming a “Legal Personality”

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

COGwriter

People all around the world need to realize that the end of US economic might is occurring.  Notice the following news item:

Dollar loses reserve status to yen & euro
New York Post – Oct 13, 2009  by PAUL THARP

Ben Bernanke’s dollar crisis went into a wider mode yesterday as the greenback was shockingly upstaged by the euro and yen, both of which can lay claim to the world title as the currency favored by central banks as their reserve currency.

Over the last three months, banks put 63 percent of their new cash into euros and yen — not the greenbacks — a nearly complete reversal of the dollar’s onetime dominance for reserves, according to Barclays Capital. The dollar’s share of new cash in the central banks was down to 37 percent — compared with two-thirds a decade ago.

Currently, dollars account for about 62 percent of the currency reserve at central banks — the lowest on record, said the International Monetary Fund.

Bernanke could go down in economic history as the man who killed the greenback on the operating table.

After printing up trillions of new dollars and new bonds to stimulate the US economy, the Federal Reserve chief is now boxed into a corner battling two separate monsters that could devour the economy — ravenous inflation on one hand, and a perilous recession on the other.

“He’s in a crisis worse than the meltdown ever was,” said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. “I fear that he could be the Fed chairman who brought down the whole thing.” http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/dollar_loses_reserve_status_to_yen_hFyfwvpBW1YYLykSJwTTEL;jsessionid=65E301CF47ED50D15170F8D6530791C5

At the same time the US dollar is losing ground, the Euro is gaining ground.  Also, the EU itself is forming into a powerful force that will dominate the world:

EU draws up plans to establish itself as ‘world power’

The European Union has drawn up secret plans to establish itself as a global power in its own right with the authority to sign international agreements on behalf of member states.

By Bruno Waterfield in Brussels
Published: 7:00AM BST 07 Oct 2009

Confidential negotiations on how to implement the Lisbon Treaty have produced proposals to allow the EU to negotiate treaties and even open embassies across the world.

A letter conferring a full “legal personality” for the Union has been drafted in order for a new European diplomatic service to be recognised as fully fledged negotiators by international bodies and all non-EU countries…

The decision, taken shortly before Ireland’s referendum last week, will mean a new European diplomatic service with over 160 “EU representations” and ambassadors across the world.

Lorraine Mullally, the director of Open Europe, described the move as “a huge transfer of power which makes the EU look more like a country than an international agreement”.

“Giving the EU legal personality means that the EU, rather than member states, will be able to sign all kinds of international agreements – on foreign policy, defence, crime and judicial issues – for the first time,” she said.

She pointed out that the 1975 referendum was on staying in the EC and that it was the European Communities Act that gave Brussels legislation primacy over British law.

“British voters agreed to join the European Communities, not a political union with legal personality with the power to sign all kinds of international agreements,” said Miss Mullally. “No one under the age of 52 has ever had a say on this important evolution and it’s about time we did.”

A restricted document circulated by the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, seen by The Daily Telegraph, spells out the need for legal changes to set up a European External Service (EEAS), an EU diplomatic and foreign service with “global geographical scope”.

The paper said: “The EEAS will need a legal status providing it with functional legal personality so that it has sufficient autonomy.

“This legal personality should also give it the capacity to act as necessary to carry out (its) tasks.”  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/6266147/EU-draws-up-plans-to-establish-itself-as-world-power.html

Now, there will be ups AND downs with the EU and the Euro.  But in the long run, the US dollar will be worth nothing, and the US, UK, and their Anglo-allies will be nations no more.

Also, based upon biblical prophecy (specifically Revelation 17:12) it is clear that the Lisbon Treaty will not be the last treaty to give Europe more power–a powerful European leader (known as the “King of the North”) will  be given much power by European states to rule over the final European Beast power.
