Fed: USA Heading to Insolvency

The economy of the USA is heading towards disaster and more officials are starting to somewhat realize it:

US Approaching Insolvency, Fix To Be ‘Painful’
Reuters – March 22, 2011

The United States is on a fiscal path towards insolvency and policymakers are at a “tipping point,” a Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday.

“If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when,” Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said in a question and answer session after delivering a speech at the University of Frankfurt.  http://www.cnbc.com/id/42209447

It is going to be more than a ‘little painful’ to fix this.  People who have faith that the USA will continue should ask themselves why.

Recall, what God inspired the Prophet Habakkuk to write thousands of years ago:

3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry…5 Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man… 6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him, And a taunting riddle against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases What is not his–how long? And to him who loads himself with many pledges’? 7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. 8 Because you have plundered many nations, All the remnant of the people shall plunder you (Habakkuk 2:3,5,6-8).

The above prophecy will be fulfilled at the time of the end (cf. “The message was true, but the appointed time was long…in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come”, Daniel 10:1,14). Daniel 8:19, 11:27,29,35 use same the Hebrew term for “appointed time” as Habakkuk 2:3, while Daniel 10, using a different term, ties the latter days to the time in Daniel 8:19. Habakkuk 2 was not fulfilled in its entirety anciently. Also, it makes little sense that Habakkuk would be directed towards the modern nation of Israel as it does not have enemy creditors. It must be a nation or group of nations with some prominence at the appointed time of the end.

This problem will cause sudden destruction among those who are spiritually drunk:

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. (1 Thessalonians 5:3-7)

Notice that both Paul and Habakkuk seem to have tied drunkenness in with this sudden calamity (so did Jesus in Luke 21:34-35). Truly the Anglo-nations are not spiritually sober.  And certainly not economically at this time either.

Notice how Ezekiel’s writings confirm that those who made profits improper will be punished:

13 “Behold, therefore, I beat My fists at the dishonest profit which you have made, and at the bloodshed which has been in your midst. 14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands remain strong, in the days when I shall deal with you? I, the Lord, have spoken, and will do it. 15 I will scatter you among the nations, disperse you throughout the countries, and remove your filthiness completely from you. (Ezekiel 22:13-15)

Borrowing money that will not be paid back is a “dishonest profit” which the American and British peoples have been living on for the past several years. They will be scattered for this and their filthiness. Sexual immorality and abortion are simply some outward signs of this filthiness.

Evangelist Dr. D. Winnail of the Living Church of God wrote about the suddenness of what will happen:

The U.S. and the British-descended peoples have enjoyed living off the resources of the world, but the prophet Habakkuk warns: “… Will not your creditors rise up suddenly? Will they not awaken who oppress you? And you will become their booty. Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the people shall plunder you” (Habakkuk 2:7–8). (Winnail D. Sudden Calamities Ahead! Tomorrows’ World, Volume 10, Issue 5. Sept-Oct, 2008)

Hebrew prophets also warned repeatedly that the future demise of God’s chosen Israelite peoples would come “suddenly” and unexpectedly (Isaiah 9:14–15; 29:5; 30:13; Jeremiah 6:26; 15:8). Modern financial analysts realize this could happen if the nations lending to America decide to dump the dollar and call their loans. The prophet Habakkuk’s warning to the ancient Babylonians, “Will not your creditors rise up suddenly?” (Habakkuk 2:7)—may also ring true for debt-plagued nations like America and its Israelite cousins. Prophetic scripture contains a sobering message: debt and disobedience lead to the demise of nations! (Winnail, D. Debt, Disobedience and Demise of Nations. Tomorrows’ World, Volume 12, Issue 2. March-April 2010, p. 27)

It is the the United States and its Anglo-allies that have loaded pledges of debt in these end times that they really do not expect to pay back.  Insolvency will cause bigger problems than even the experts who see it coming normally understand.

Prophecy moves forward–significant personal repentance is probably the only way out (as national repentance for the USA seems highly unlikely).

Harold Camping: Two Months Before His Followers Realize He Was False

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Harold Egbert Camping

COGwriter

While this page tends to focus more on those once affiliated with the Church of God, there are some other religious leaders that can impact it. One of those may be Harold Camping.

According to Harold Camping, Jesus will return on Pentecost May 21, 2011 and the world will end on October 21, 2011. So, based on his proclamations, the world has less than one year to exist.  Of course, that is not possible, so in two months (which will be May 22, 2011), his remaining followers will again see that his prediction was wrong.

Here are some of the predictions Harold Camping wrote in his We are Almost There! book:

The church age embraced, to the very day, exactly 1,955 years in that it began on Pentecost day, May 22, A.D. 33, and ended the day before Pentecost on May 21, 1988 (A.D.). (p. 29)

As we have noted, God further solidifies or locks in this date, May 21, 2011, by placing the day of shutting the door, when the rapture will occur, on the 17th day of the second month of the Biblical calendar. Significantly, the number 17 links perfectly to the fact of the rapture because spiritually, the number 17 signifies heaven. Moreover, the number 2 (second month) spiritually identifies with those who have been commissioned to bring the Gospel. Is it not amazing that they will be raptured on the 17th day of the second month? Is that coincidental? We also have learned that the last day of the earth’s existence, October 21, 2011, is the 23rd day of the seventh month of the Biblical calendar. The number 23 normally signifies God’s wrath being poured out. The number 7 (seventh month) signifies the perfect fulfillment of God’s purposes. Could this also be coincidental, that the final completion of God’s punishment on the unsaved occurs in the seventh month on a day that features the number 23, which is a number that completely identifies with God’s wrath, thus signifying God’s perfect wrath on the unsaved? (p. 61-62)

Now what is all that based upon?

In my view, his own imaginations.

Furthermore, PENTECOST IS ON JUNE 12, 2011 AND NOT MAY 21, 2011 (see Holy Day Calendar). Harold Camping does not even understand what Pentecost is all about (to learn more, see Pentecost: Is it more than Acts 2?). Because he prefers his own imaginations to the truth of the Bible, Harold Camping seems to load one misleading calculation onto other misleading information to get to the wrong answer. He should not be listened to by those that actually believe the Bible.

So why cover him?

It remains my view that when Jesus does not come on May 21, 2011 and the world does not end on October 21, 2011 nor December 21, 2012, scoffers will point to Harold Camping, as well as those who insisted upon the Mayan date, as proof that there have been many who falsely believed to know when the world would end. And while they will be correct about that, they also will tend to discount all prophecy, including biblical prophecy (which is supposedly what Harold Camping claims to base his own imaginative and allegorical predictions upon). As Jesus said,

The iniquity of false prophets such as Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland (who still claims that Jesus will come on May 27, 2012, though he seems to have hedged on that a bit earlier this month), and others will turn various people off about prophecy. More will feel comfortable being scoffers. And this rise of scoffers who will not believe in prophecy is also foretold in the Bible by the Apostle Peter:

1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation — as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. (2 Peter 3:1-16, NKJV)

So, despite false predictions, Mayan prophecies, scoffers, and the assertions of many, Jesus will return. And we are to look forward to His return as the Apostle Peter wrote. Jesus will return no earlier than 2018 (and likely later) as certain biblically-required steps have not yet happened (Daniel 9:27; cf. Matthew 24:15,21,29-30).

Those who are interested in the truth about Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland (who also claims to be one of the two witnesses), Mayan prophecies, and when the Bible shows that Jesus can return, may wish to study the following articles:

Why does the Bible show that Ron Weinland is a false prophet? He also has at least one other view that suggests that he is not part of the Church of God.

Extinction of Religion Forecast for New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland?

White Horseman Related to “Antichrist”

COGwriter

A new report that has looked into religion forecasts that it will become extinct in many countries:

Religion set for extinction in NZ, says US study

5:28 PM Tuesday Mar 22, 2011

A study using census data from New Zealand and eight other countries suggests religion is set for extinction in all these nations, researchers say…

The American research used “nonlinear dynamics” put a numerical basis behind the decline of religion as seen in census data from New Zealand, Australia, Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.

“The result, reported at the American Physical Society meeting in Dallas, US, indicates that religion will all but die out altogether in those countries,” the BBC reported today.  http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10714235

While religion is on the decline in many lands, it will not become extinct.  Researchers apparently have overlooked the Bible as it teaches that a false religion will rise up and be at least partially accepted all around the world:

3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.   (Revelation 13:3-8, NKJV)

So, according to the Bible, there will be two types of people in the end, those who worship the Beast and those whose names are written in the Book of Life.  Hence, despite what some American researchers have concluded, religion will not become extinct.  On the other hand, some of the countries mentioned themselves will become “extinct” as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, as descendants of  Ephraim, will relatively soon be taken over and eliminated.

But prior to that, an ecumenical religion will rise up and start to take over more and more lands.

The Book of Revelation tells of a time that the first seal will be opened by Jesus. Notice what happens:

1 Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. (Revelation 6:1-2)

In 1976, the old WCG taught:

In the book of Revelation we find a disturbing vision of four fearsome horsemen (Rev. 6:1-8). Each of these horsemen is a symbol of the four major punishments to be inflicted upon a rebellious mankind — probably in the not-too-distant future! (Ritter G. The First Horse, False Religion. WCG booklet, 1976).

LCG’s Dr. Meredith taught:

Rome’s constant promotion of the ecumenical movement—encouraging her wayward daughters to “come home”— will also resonate with increasing urgency throughout Europe and even here in North America. It is time for all Bible-believing Christians to WAKE UP! A MASSIVE religious/political union is now in the making in Europe.(Meredith RC. Is the —Beast— Awakening?, Tomorrow’s World, Sep-Oct 2000)

The relentless pressure of the ecumenical movement will also intensify.

The Great Mother Church will be calling with increasing fervor for her daughters to come “home.” Within the next several years, the “second” Beast of Revelation 13 will appear on the scene. We read of this man in Revelation 13:11–14: “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.” This coming powerful religious leader will look like a “lamb.” In Revelation 14 we see that Christ is described as the “Lamb.” So this coming religious leader will appear to be like Christ! But, John writes, he “spoke like a dragon.” (Meredith RC. Who or What Is—The Antichrist? LCG booklet, March 2008)

even many evangelical Christians—and their ministers—will eventually be caught up in the euphoria of this powerful Babylonish system! For it will be part of the “ecumenical movement.” It will seem like “the thing to do.”(Meredith RC. The Two Babylons. Tomorrow’s World, May-June 2004)

LCG’s Richard Ames taught:

Some commentaries wrongly interpret the first seal to mean that Christianity will evangelize the world and conquer it spiritually. But when we examine Christ’s words in Matthew, we come to a very different conclusion. Jesus warns his followers: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many” (Matthew 24:4). Compare this to Revelation 6 and we can see that the first horse and its rider represent FALSE Christs and FALSE religion. (Ames R. Mystery of Revelation. Tomorrow’s World, Jul-Sep 1999).

LCG’s Dr. Winnail taught:

The Roman Church is leading an “ecumenical” drive to bring all professing-Christian churches together under one umbrella, even though it has made clear that it considers itself the one true Church (see Isaiah 47:1–8). The Roman Church is promoting a united Europe, in which it can regain the prominent role it played in the “Holy Roman Empire.”…

The history of medieval Europe sheds light on how a deceptive and militant false form of Christianity will operate when the first horseman of the Apocalypse begins his ride. We are watching these prophecies come alive today! (Winnail D. The Mysterious First Horseman. Tomorrow’s World, Nov-Dec 2004)

Two of the most significant events in the last 2,000 years of religious history were the Great Schism and the Reformation. In 1054ad, church leaders in Rome and Constantinople mutually excommunicated each other over doctrinal differences, creating the Great Schism that has separated the western Roman Catholic Church from the Eastern Orthodox Church for almost a thousand years. The 15th century saw the birth of the Protestant Reformation… Many ecumenically minded church leaders believe that the Holy Spirit is leading them toward greater unity. (Winnail D. A Return to Rome? Tomorrow’s World, Nov-Dec 2008).

There have been many interesting ecumenical developments since the Feast of Trumpets in 2009.

In September 2009, the Eastern Orthodox held a significant pan-Orthodox conference; working towards unity was one of the objectives (World Council of Churches Inter-Orthodox Preparatory Consultation Towards the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation (IEPC) Leros, Greece. 15-22 September 2009). By itself, the meeting does not seem like too much, but it was partially in response to the World Council of Churches and later Orthodox developments suggest that it might have been important.

On October 15, 2009, the Vatican’s then top ecumenical official reported:

The official dialogue between the Catholic Church and the mainline Protestant Churches — Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed and Methodist — is entering a new phase, says the president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. Cardinal Walter Kasper pointed this out Thursday during a press conference at the Vatican…(Cardinal Kasper on 40 Years of Dialogue Says Catholic-Protestant Relations Entering New Phase. Zenit, October 16, 2009)

Notice this was called “a new phase” in the official dialogue, suggesting that major changes were occurring. On the next day, the Vatican and the Orthodox began a new round of ecumenical negotiations.

The eleventh meeting of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church took place in Paphos, Cyprus, a city with a rich history, having received three Apostles, Paul, Barnabas and Mark. The meeting took place from 16-23 October 2009…The Orthodox meeting discussed among other things the negative reactions to the Dialogue by certain Orthodox circles, and unanimously considered them as totally unfounded and unacceptable, providing false and misleading information. (Comminique. JOINT INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE ORTHODOX CHURCH. 11TH PLENARY SESSION.Paphos, Cyprus, 16-23 October 2009. Paphos, Cyprus, 22 October 2009. http://www.ec-patr.org/docdisplay.php?lang=en&id=1124&tla=en).

The International Mixed Commission for Theological Dialogue Between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church has progressed in its reflection on the role of the bishop of Rome. The meeting was attended by 20 Catholic members; all Orthodox Churches were represented, with the exception of the Patriarchate of Bulgaria. The commission worked under the guidance of two co-presidents: the Catholic representative was Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; and the Orthodox representative was Metropolitan Ioannis Zizioulas of Pergamum. (Orthodox-Catholic Commission Studies Primacy of Peter Concludes 11th Plenary Session in Paphos. Zenit, October 23, 2009)

As reported here previously, I personally was told when I was in Istanbul in May of 2008 at the office of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, that the Vatican stated that it would compromise doctrine to attain unity with the Orthodox. The Vatican basically wants the Orthodox to bend on the primacy of Peter/Rome issue, as it is willing change on most of the rest of the doctrinal differences. So, it is interestingly that both groups had a major meeting on the “primacy of Peter” subject.

On October 20, 2009, the Vatican announced that it would amend its constitution to allow for the change to allow the Anglicans to be in communion with Rome–without the Anglicans really having to do much of anything. Obviously, the decision was made prior to this formal announcement. The timing of this seems to have been meant to send a signal to the Eastern Orthodox that if they want something like was offered to the Anglicans, Rome would also offer them unity while allowing their priests to be married, and without changes to their liturgy.

This decision to amend the Vatican’s constitution to allow for the Anglicans would have involved many Catholic leaders, and one of them might become the False Prophet (the final Antichrist). This Vatican announcement allowed married Anglican priests to remain married and still be part of the clergy. This is something that the Eastern Orthodox would also likely insist upon to end its “schism” with Rome.

Interestingly, even the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill started to sound “ecumenical” in later 2009. Yet, then Metropolitan Kirill was so opposed to unity with the Vatican, that a few days prior to his election to his current post in January 2009, he publicly stated “there is no room for compromise” with the Vatican. However, by mid-November 2009, he apparently changed his mind (Cooper R. Russian Orthodox and Catholic church may end 950-year rift. Telegraph, November 13, 2009).

In February 2010, leaders of the Ecumenical Lutherans had a:

“2010 Ecumenical Journey,” and…visited Anglican, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic world leaders…In its 22-year history, the ELCA has established full communion relationships with the Episcopal Church, the Moravian Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Reformed Church in America, the United Church of Christ, and most recently the United Methodist Church. (ELCA Delegation, Roman Catholic Ecumenists, Discuss Future Vision. ECLA News Service, February 14, 2010)

The Lutheran leaders met with the Vatican and others in that “ecumenical journey”.

Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople (who has a certain primacy among the “sees” of the Eastern Orthodox) even came out in an encyclical and publicly warned against those who would oppose Vatican-Orthodox unity in late February 2010 (Patriarch of Constantinople’s new encyclical defends Catholic-Orthodox dialogue. Catholic News Agency, February 20, 2010).

In May 2010, a meeting between the leaders of the somewhat estranged Eastern and Russian Orthodox (Kishkovsky S. Orthodox leaders meet to heal a rift. New York Times, May 24, 1010.). The top two leaders of this group, however, have long had a personal working relationship, prior to being elevated to their current positions (Lipich O. The visit of Patriarch Bartholomew to Russia is intended to strengthen intra-Orthodox ties. Voice of Russia, May 22, 2010). Ecumenism is blooming amongst the Orthodox (though there will likely be some problems).

Behind the scenes in early February 2010, a Catholic Bishop from the German-speaking portion of Switzerland, by the name of Kurt Koch, privately accepted Pope Benedict XVI’s offer to be president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. This was not publicly announced until July 1, 2010.

About his appointment, Catholic Archbishop (and now Cardinal) Kurt Koch himself stated:

The Holy Father told me in February, in a personal audience, his desire that I would begin to lead this council. It is a great joy for me because ecumenism has always been in my heart since in my country, Switzerland, Protestants are very close to us and I have also had a particular interest in the Orthodox Churches…

The Holy Father has done much. In the first homily after his election he said openly that ecumenism is a challenge that comes from Jesus Christ and that, at this time dialogue finds good foundations in the documents of the Second Vatican Council.

In pastoral journeys he has always dedicated a part to ecumenism. Let us consider for example the trip to England, which will take place in September. It won’t be easy because the Anglicans’ situation isn’t easy. It’s said that Benedict XVI wishes especially to foster ecumenical dialogue with the Orthodox. For me it is impressive.

The Holy Father has asked me to do this work and an element that he has stressed much is that he wants a bishop who knows the churches of the Reformation not only in books but by personal experience. This tells us how close the Holy Father is to the churches of the Reformation. (Why a Swiss Bishop for the Unity Council. Zenit, July 13, 2010. http://www.zenit.org/article-29881?l=english)

Notice that Kurt Koch has his new position to get the Protestants (”the churches of the Reformation”) and the Eastern Orthodox to be part of an ecumenical deal (though he differs from Pontiff Benedict by calling the Protestant groups ”churches”). This is ecumenical plan is consistent with biblical, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox prophecies. And while he will likely have issues this month with many of the Anglicans in the UK, he and the pontiff plan to move ahead with their ecumenical agenda.

The Catholics and Orthodox are being portrayed as “Europe’s Brothers”:

High-ranking representatives of the Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches embraced on Monday in a moment reflecting a will for unity between the two Churches.

A photo of the embrace between Cardinal Peter Erdo and Metropolitan Filaret was printed with the title “Europe’s Brothers.”

…The Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches are already united in their common stance on many issues affecting Europe… (Catholic, Russian Orthodox Churches Embrace: Cardinal and Metropolitan Show Will for Unity at Rimini Meeting. Zenit, August 24, 2010)

Last week (March 16, 2011), Cardinal Koch was in Russia meeting with Orthodox Patriarch Kirill on matters of ecumenical unity (see Vatican’s Cardinal Koch Meets Russian Orthodox’s Patriarch Kirill).  He also met with other Orthodox leaders in Russia.

Thus, the idea of unity is becoming more and more public.

Perhaps I should state that the Eastern Orthodox have long believed that they will get the Vatican to change. Notice what my “2012” book reports:

The Orthodox have long taught that the Church of Rome (known sometimes as Latins) will change doctrines to those of the Orthodox. A document known as the Anonymou Prophecy of 1053 refers to this as the “Deferring of the Latins to the error-free faith of the Orthodox.”

Unity has long been both a Vatican and Eastern Orthodox goal. However until recently, it seemed more of a longing than something anyone would try to resolve. But now, that is changing.

The old WCG (Ritter G. The First Horse, False Religion. WCG booklet, 1976) and the current LCG recognize that the four riders in Revelation 6 are in the same order as the first four events Jesus listed as part of the “beginning of sorrows” in Matthew 24. Partially because of this, we understand that the rider of the first horse represents a deceiving religion that claims that Jesus is the Christ (e.g. Matthew 24:5; Revelation 6:3). Since the Bible, in several places, suggests a world-encompassing religion (Isaiah 47:6-9; Revelation 13:3-4; 13:12-17; 17:17-18; cf. Daniel 11:37-39), some type of ecumenical meetings likely need to take place before “ecumenical unity” is attained.

Ecumenical Council?

On February 21, 2010, after blasting critics of Roman Catholic-Eastern Orthodox unity as “fanatical”, Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople stated that:

“union between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches…is not decided by theological commissions but by Church Synods” (Bartholomew I. Patriarchal and Synodal Encyclical on the Sunday of Orthodoxy. Prot. No. 213, February 21, 2010. http://www.ec-patr.org/docdisplay.php?lang=en&id=1168&tla=en). This is actually a hint that Bartholomew I expects an ecumenical synod, or what some in the Orthodox world have called the 8th synod or ecumenical council (the Orthodox accept seven councils as authoritative and ecumenical).

But he neglected to pointed out that theological commissions seem to be the vehicle that leads to synods. And that he likely expects such a synod. Interestingly, there is an old Orthodox prophecy and a Roman Catholic one, that Patriarch Bartholomew I should be aware of, which tells of a coming ecumenical synod/council:

Saint Nelios the Myrrh-Gusher (died 1592): During that time the Eighth and last Ecumenical Synod will take place, which will satisfy the contentions of the heretics…(Tzima Otto, Great Monarch and WWIII, Verenikia Press, Rock Hill (SC), 2000, p. 111)

Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (Born in the 17th century, in Germany): There will be an ecumenical council which will be the greatest of all councils. By the grace of God, by the power of the Great Monarch, and by the authority of the Holy Pontiff, and by the union of the most devout princes, atheism and every heresy will be banished from the earth. The Council will…be believed and accepted by everyone (Dupont, Yves. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1973, p. 40).

This “synod” should not be looked forward to, but feared. By satisfying “heretics”, clearly this council compromises and changes the religion, which will be called “Catholic”.

A Catholic prophecy shows that after its church is changed (reformed below), the Orthodox will come back:

Roger Bacon (died 1294): There shall arise a…priest to reform the Church. The Greeks will return (to the Church)…there will be one fold, one shepherd. (Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times, p. 149)

Also notice the following warning from a Catholic nun:

Anna-Katarina Emmerick (October 1, 1820): The Church is in great danger…The Protestant doctrine and that of the schismatic Greeks are to spread everywhere. I now see that in this place (Rome) the (Catholic) Church is being so cleverly undermined, that there hardly remain a hundred or so priests who have not been deceived. They all work for the destruction, even the clergy. A great destruction is now at hand…

(April 22, 1823): I saw that many pastors allowed themselves to be taken up with ideas that were dangerous to the Church. They were building a great, strange, and extravagant Church. Everyone was admitted in it in order to be united and to have equal rights: Evangelicals, Catholics, sects of every description. Such was to be the new Church (Dupont, pp. 66, 71).

Various events around the globe suggest that people of many faiths are getting to the point where they are likely to accept some type of ecumenical religion.

Notice carefully the following Catholic prophecy:

Frederick William Faber (died 1863):…Antichrist…Many believe in a demonical incarnation—this will not be so—but he will be utterly possessed…His doctrine as apparent contradiction of no religion, yet a new religion…He has an attending pontiff, so separating regal and prophetic office (Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, p. 87).

That prophecy, which is in a book with an official imprimatur from a Catholic bishop (as well as others), suggests that there soon may be a change to the “Catholic” religion that will make it the religion of the final Antichrist.

This change will not seem to be a contradiction, but it will be a new religion—like a new order within the Catholic religion.

Speaking of the end times, Jesus warned:

they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake (Luke 21:12).

All (Catholic or otherwise) should be careful, compare their teachings with the Bible, pray to God, and not accept doctrines that are unbiblical for the sake of this coming ecumenical unity.

Anyway, despite what some researchers have concluded, religion will not become extinct.  A false religion will rise up that will deceive nearly all in the world.  Persecution from the false  ecumenical religion that is developing will affect the faithful.  And both of these are predicted in your Bible.

Those who wish to learn why the ecumenical discussions are dangerous may wish to read the following articles:

“Orthodox” 16th Century Representation of the “Apocalypse”

COGwriter

Zenit, a pro-Vatican news source reported:

By Mariaelena Finessi

ROME, MARCH 21, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi is highlighting the example of St. Thomas Becket as a man who knew how to fight temptation and be faithful to his conscience.

Thomas Becket was from the 12th century and is mentioned in at least one book on Catholic prophecies:

St. Thomas says:

“A knight shall come from the West. He shall capture Milan, Lombardy, and the three Crowns. He shall then sail to Cyprus and Famagoste and land at Jaffa, and reach Christ’s grave where he will fight. Wars and wonders shall befall till the people believe in Christ toward the end of the world.”

Notice that St. Thomas says wars and wonders will precede a resurgence in belief in Christ during the latter times (Birch, DA. Trial, Tribulation & Triumph: Before During and After Antichrist. Queenship Publishing Company, Goleta (CA), 1996, p. 255).

{The comments in italics were from Desmond Birch personally}.

Many Catholic writers tells of a time when there will be wars (and there are many conflicts currently in the Middle East), and then there will be wonders (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2) that will lead to the rising up of a leader that is often called “the Great Monarch” (the knight from the west in Thomas’ prediction).  Other writers have tied this is with a religious revival.

Of course, a religious revival that would tend to include most people throughout the world would tend to be an ecumenical one. Hence, this is a somewhat different religion than the current Catholic faith. Catholics should not accept any changes from the true faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3) and truly turn to true apostolic Christianity.

The fact that Thomas is still being praised publicly suggests, to me at least, that there are Catholics who take his writings seriously.  Writings that align with others about certain end time matters.

Those interested in learning more about the Great Monarch, who seems to be the same person as the final biblical King of the North may find the following of assistance:

Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North? Is the German Defense Minister one to watch? What do Catholic, Byzantine, and biblical prophecies suggest?
Who is the King of the North? Is there one? Do biblical and Roman Catholic prophecies point to the same leader? Should he be followed? Who will be the King of the North discussed in Daniel 11? Is a nuclear attack prophesied to happen to the English-speaking peoples of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand? When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? When does the Bible show that economic collapse will affect the United States?

The situation in Libya is changing:

Doubts Mount on Libya War

By Chris Stirewalt

Fractures Emerge in Anti-Qaddafi Coalition

“What is happening in Libya differs from the aim of imposing a no-fly zone. And what we want is the protection of civilians and not the shelling of more civilians.”

— Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League, condemning the U.S.-led air assault on Libya…

The Arab League, which helped spur a sudden shift in the Obama administration late last week by calling for a no-fly zone, is now expressing misgivings about the size and ferocity of the effort. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/21/doubts-mount-libya-war/#ixzz1HF6wcf8X

Qaddafi Vows to Repel ‘Christian States’
Bloomberg – March 20, 2011
Qaddafi denounced the countries allied against him as “the party of Satan.” The military action continued today with the bombing of airfields and air-defense sites.

“We will not leave our oil to America or France or Britain or the enemy Christian states that are aligned now against us,” the Libyan leader, who has ruled since 1969, said on state television today. “We will not leave our land. We will fight for every inch of our land and liberate every inch of it.”

Libyan rebels launch offensive; coalition continues pounding Gaddafi’s forces

By Peter Finn, Greg Jaffe and William Branigin, Monday, March 21, 9:17 AM

Buoyed by U.S. and allied airstrikes that relieved a siege of Benghazi, Libyan rebels launched an offensive early Monday aimed at retaking the strategic city of Ajdabiya, as Western warplanes continued pounding forces loyal to longtime leader Moammar Gaddafi.

Explosions and plumes of smoke marked the scene of the strikes against Gaddafi’s forces in Ajdabiya, about 100 miles south of the rebels’ de facto capital of Benghazi, and advancing rebels cheered when Western warplanes flew overhead, news agencies reported. The rebels by Monday had regained control of Zuwaytinah, an oil terminal about 16 miles northwest of Ajdabiya that had been captured by loyalist forces last week.

In Benghazi, Libya’s second-largest city, spokesmen for the opposition to Gaddafi said the rebels ultimately still plan to march on Tripoli, the Libyan capital where the 68-year-old strongman remains ensconced.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/us-jets-strike-gaddafis-forces-coalition-continues-hitting-libyan-air-defenses-/2011/03/20/ABgFNa3_story.html

Cruise Missile Slams Gadhafi’s Compound Near Tent

Mar 20, 2011 – 11:59 PM…
TRIPOLI, Libya — A cruise missile blasted Moammar Gadhafi’s residential compound in an attack that carried as much symbolism as military effect, and fighter jets destroyed a line of tanks moving on the rebel capital. The U.S. said the international assault would hit any government forces attacking the opposition…

“I feel like in two days max we will destroy Gadhafi,” said Ezzeldin Helwani, 35, a rebel standing next to the smoldering wreckage of an armored personnel carrier, the air thick with smoke and the pungent smell of burning rubber.  http://www.aolnews.com/2011/03/20/us-calls-libya-bombing-successful-endgame-unclear/?icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk1%7C206815

What the West is doing is more than simply stopping Libya from using its air force against those who wish to overthrow its leader, Moammar Gaddafi.  Some in the West are determined to remove Colonel Gaddafi, and apparently have decided that this is the time to do it.  While the rantings of Colonel Gaddafi against the “crusaders” and “enemy Christian states” tends to be downplayed in the West, the reality is that these terms strike many Muslims as signs of Western imperialism–especially since the West has done more than simply stop the Libyan air force from flying.

As I have been reporting, I believe that interim governments will likely be put in place in various nations in the Middle East/North Africa. These will be followed ultimately by one that supports a pan-Arabic leader known biblically as the King of the South, but also known as the Caliph or Imam Mahdi by various ones in the Islamic world. The stage clearly is being set for this to happen and the current concerns by the Arab League are consistent with that.

Notice what one Muslim wrote about the appearance of their Mahdi/Mehdi:

SIGNS BEFORE HIS APPEARANCE AS THE MEHDI

The world will be filled with a great amount of injustice and oppression. There will be widespread evil in which all people will be heavily involved.

Muslim countries and their people will have become so weak that even animals would defeat them in battle.

Muslims would be totally disunited, hence their state of weakness. On the other hand, the Kuffar of the whole world would be united under one leader…

Throughout the world earthquakes would occur frequently. Innocent people will be put to death…

I would suggest that the protesters and rebels in the Middle East believe that they have been subject to injustice and oppression. If an earthquake happens in the region, it would seem that some may consider that to be a sign for the leader to rise up as they already believe that they have the injustice and oppression.  I would also suggest that if the West continues to pound Libya, that some Muslims will believe that this is making the Arab world very weak, “so weak that even animals would defeat them in battle” (at least enough to justify the rise of the Mehdi).  Thus, as the situation in Libya has once again changed, it does seem to be consistent with a leader ultimately rising up in the Arab world.

Yet, while it may also take a war in the Middle East for this leader to rise up, civil unrest, riots, rebellions, demonstrations, and protests may also be involved. Things are changing in the Arab world. And events are lining up for the King of the South/Imam Mahdi to arise.

R.C. Meredith of the Living Church of God (LCG) wrote:

Al Qaeda named its Internet newscast, which debuted in September, ‘The Voice of the Caliphate.’…Kerem Acar, a tailor in central Istanbul {said} ‘…one day maybe my children’s children will see someone declare himself the caliph, like the pope, and have an impact’” (January 14, 2006). Indeed, a coming “Mahdi” whose arrival Muslims are expecting—in Bible prophecy known as the “King of the South” (Daniel 11:40–45)—will soon arise and have a dramatic impact on world events. This powerful Muslim religious leader will unite many of the more than one billion Muslims. He will pose a genuine threat to the coming European Empire, which will have to crush that threat in order to continue exploiting Middle Eastern oil to further its military ambitions. (Meredith RC. Prophecy Fulfilled: God’s Hand in World Affairs. LCG Booklet, 2007, pp. 16-17)

And the current situation in Libya and elsewhere in the Arab world seem to be pointing in that direction.

Droughts Affecting Russia and Parts of USA

Unusual weather has caused disasters in many places this year. Although it has been raining a lot the past couple of days in California, drought is affecting many states:

Drought more severe in Texas, impacting area agriculture

Wheat Rises as Dry Weather in Kansas, Russia May Cut Supplies

Putin Says Drought Destroyed 13 Million Hectares of Crops

Famines, of course, are biblically expected (Matthew 24:7).

The weather situations around the world affect many things, including the economy, people’s lives, and the food supply. The fact that so much is happening now, may be consistent with certain end time prophecies. But the end is not yet.

LCG has long had a booklet of possibly related interest titled “Who Controls the Weather? ” that is available for those interested in more on the weather and Bible prophecy.

Jesus foretold on a time of natural disasters, including famines, as part of “the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7-8), but the Book of Revelation (16:8-11) tells of a time of even greater disturbances during “the Day of the Lord”. These will go beyond what normally have occurred in the past century. World events are aligning towards the fulfillment of biblical prophecies.

Now there is good news as ultimately, God’s kingdom will come and those issues will be gone (Revelation 7:16). But a terrible hour of trial is coming first (Revelation 3:10).

Dr. Winnail: The Most Important Quality

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Dr. Douglas Winnail

COGwriter

In his latest update, LCG’s Dr. D. Winnail had the following:

The Most Important Quality: Most of God’s people understand the importance of keeping the commandments, the Sabbath, the Holy Days and the dietary laws. They also understand the importance of government, tithing, faith and watching for the fulfillment of prophecy. Yet sometimes, in our zeal to obey the laws of God, we can overlook something else that is even more important—and that is the need to develop and exercise Godly Love. We are told in the Scriptures that without Godly Love, all these other things will amount to nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Here, the biblical word for love (agape) refers to an unselfish outgoing concern for others. In 1 Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul states that Godly Love does not seek its own way; it is calm and not easily provoked, nor does it jump to conclusions or assign motives or sit in judgment of others. Instead, Godly Love is gracious and forgiving. It is positive and focuses on what is right and true. It never fails or falters. Godly Love is the most important fruit of God’s Spirit that we must nourish and cultivate if we hope to become like our Father and our Elder Brother Jesus Christ. God is love (1 John 4:8, 16). And we have been created to become like Him (1 John 3:1-3). Let’s make that our goal. Let’s ask God to help us learn to love Him and learn to love others as He does, so we can develop this most important quality—of Godly Love.

Love is what the Bible really is about.  And that is what true Christianity is specifically about.

Libya Attacked by ‘Terrorists’ and ‘Crusaders’

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

Muammar al-Gaddafi

COGwriter

Libya’s Muammar al-Gaddafi has called those that launched an attack against his troops both terrorists and crusaders:

Nations bombing Libya are ‘terrorists,’ Gadhafi says

CNN International – Nic Robertson, Arwa Damon – ‎20 March 2011

By the CNN Wire Staff Tripoli, Libya (CNN) — Libyan ruler Moammar Gadhafi called the allied nations bombing his country “terrorists” Sunday, a day after the United States, United Kingdom and France began to enforce a United Nations-mandated no-flyto protect Libya’s civilians from their leader.

Libya Hit by Tomahawk Missiles as Qaddafi Decries Crusaders

San Francisco Chronicle – ‎20 March 2011

The UN’s principal policy-making panel voted 10-0, with five abstentions, to adopt a resolution that establishes a no- fly zone over Libya, demands a cease-fire and allows “all necessary measures” to protect civilians “excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory.”

While Libya has often been considered a terrorist-supporting state, the claim that Moammar Gadhafi calls his opponents terrorists is really no surprise.

Nor is his use of the term “crusaders” (which CNN also reported during its telecast).  The term crusaders essentially means “cross-bearers”.

I have long felt that although there will be some cooperation between the Europeans and many Muslims states to eliminate the USA, UK, Canada, and Israel (cf. Psalm 83; Daniel 11:27), I have also felt that because the coming European King of the North will likely enforce a compromised form of religion that he will claim as Catholicism, that many in the Middle East will consider that the Europeans are crusaders (the crusaders were Catholics) who are against them, and that this will trigger the King of the South to push at the King of the North (Daniel 11:40) and the King of the South will be defeated.

Colonel Gadhafi’s use of the term “crusaders” is intended as a rallying cry for his supporters, but also to warn other Muslims that they should not engage so closely with the Europeans.

The situation in Libya is changing and the final King of the South will rise up. The more chaos there becomes in the world in general, and the Middle East/North Africa in particular, the more the stage is being set for the people there to desire to support such a leader.

While troubles will precede the end (Mark 13:5-8), the end will come.

And the final King of the South may rise up soon–and this will be a leader that will cooperated with, then turn against the West (Psalm 83; Daniel 11:27, 40).

Barack Obama in Brazil

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

Dilma Rousseff

COGwriter

US President Barack Obama is in Brazil:

Obama, Juggling Crises, Arrives in Brazil

New York Times – Jackie Calmes, Alexei Barrionuevo – ‎19 March 2011

BRASILIA, Brazil — President Obama and his family arrived here on Saturday morning for his first trip to South America…Mr. Obama’s visit had also been billed as way for him to connect with Latin Americans, especially in Brazil, a multi-racial society where he has been wildly popular since his presidential campaign…

The Brazilians under the new presidency of Dilma Rousseff, its first female president, are eager to build closer economic and political ties to the Obama administration, though their occasional differences on the international stage were reflected on Thursday night, when Brazil was one of five nations to abstain in the vote of the United Nations Security Council to authorize force against Libya.

The Obama administration from the start has described the trip, especially its Brazil leg, in terms of its potential job-creating benefits for the United States — in keeping with Mr. Obama’s main domestic theme.

Some in the USA press have criticized Barack Obama for going on the trip at this time, but in my view, since he promised to go now, it is not inappropriate for him to be there as he promised.

There exists certain legal connections between those of Portugal and Brazil which ties those nations relatively closely.

While Brazilians are often of mixed ethnicity, Brazil is believed to have a significant Jewish influence as well (see Jewish Heritage of Brazil).

But essentially, the Latin American nations are primarily made up of Gentile-descended peoples. During the prophesied “time of the Gentiles” the Gentile-descended nations, and not the Anglo-descended ones, will rule the earth (more information on that can be found in the article Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2011, 2012, or 2013?).

While the USA wants closer ties with the emerging power of Brazil, consistent with biblical prophecy, and for reasons of religion, language, and culture, I believe Brazil will become a closer ally of the rising European power.

Muammar al-Gaddafi

COGwriter

Today, I received the following from ICG’s Mark Armstrong:

You’veprobably followed some of the news from Libya, where Gaddafi largely crushed the unidentified “rebel forces.” Since the UN has approved calls for military action against the Libyan regime, Gaddafi has claimed to call a cease fire amid reports that U.S. warships are heading his way and British and French aircraft have scheduled a visit. There has been no question over recent decades, Gaddafi is a rotten, brutal dictator who has orchestrated vicious terrorist attacks. Assuming he is deposed or killed, who will replace him? Will the U.S. and NATO allies clear the way for Libya to become another terrorist training center?

The media, and the U.S. administration cheered the move to oust Mubarak from Egypt. But whenever we hear some additional news from Egypt, it is of more riots and continuing violence. As the U.S. and the world should have learned from Iran, toppling a brutal dictator in the Muslim Middle East is no guarantee of better days ahead. Speaking of Iran, there has been very little in the way of cheering for the opposition movement to topple the oppressive theocracy of the mullahs and their midget, Ahmadinejad. Wouldn’t that be even better news than the ouster of Mubarak?

Possibly the most unnerving reports coming out of the Middle East are those of a continuing clamor of demonstrations in Bahrain, and Iran is in support of that now, just as they supported the movement in Egypt. They’re also calling for the Saudi kingdom to be toppled because of its cooperation with the U.S.

The situation in Libya will change and the final King of the South will rise up. The more chaos there becomes in the world in general, and the Middle East/North Africa in particular, the more the stage is being set for the people there to desire to support such a leader.

Here are some other news items related to the Middle East:

Libyan Forces Take Aim on Benghazi as World Leaders Convene
VOA 19 March 2011

Rebels in Libya say pro-government forces advanced on their eastern stronghold in Benghazi Saturday, as world leaders convened an emergency summit on the Libyan crisis in Paris.

The rebels say military units loyal to Moammar Gadhafi shot down one of their planes over Benghazi.  They also report that government troops and artillery have been moving closer to the city, in apparent disregard of a cease-fire that Libya’s leader declared on Friday.

Representatives from the United Nations, European Union, Arab and Western powers are gathering in France to decide on a response to the deteriorating military situation in Libya.

Israel National News – March 18, 2011

Egypt’s temporary military rulers sent a delegation to Syria on Thursday to meet with President Bashar al-Assad. Egyptian General Murad Mohammed Muafi and Assad agreed to boost cooperation between the two countries, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.

The meeting follows long-term tension between Egypt and Syria. Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak refrained from developing warm ties with Assad due to disagreement over Syria’s role in Lebanon.

Assad sent his greetings to the new Egyptian government shortly after Mubarak’s overthrow, wishing them success and expressing readiness to “cooperate with Cairo.”

Egyptians vote in major test of shift to democracy

Forbes – Maggie Michael, Hamza Hendawi – ‎19 March 2011‎

CAIRO — Eager for their first taste of a free vote in decades, Egyptians lined up by the hundreds Saturday to vote on constitutional amendments sponsored by the ruling military that critics fear could propel the country’s largest Islamist group to become Egypt’s most dominant political force…the timeframe would benefit Mubarak’s one-time ruling National Democratic Party and the Muslim Brotherhood – archrivals and the two most powerful and best-organized political groups in Egypt.

Middle East unrest: 52 shot dead in Yemen

Telegraph.co.uk – Adrian Blomfield – ‎19 March 2011
Pro-regime snipers positioned on rooftops in the Yemeni capital Sana’a shot dead at least 52 protesters as authoritarian regimes across the Middle East grappled with a fresh wave of popular unrest.

The situation in much of the Middle East remains volatile.  Protests have not resulted in stabilization for much of the region.  The Muslim Brotherhood’s goal is to get a unified Arab/Islamic world that will speak with one voice, like the prophesied King of the South.

While troubles will precede the end (Mark 13:5-8), the end will come.

And the final King of the South may rise up soon–and this will be a leader that will turn against the West (Psalm 83; Daniel 11:40).

Watch (cf. Mark 13:33-37).
