To enable lenders to operate freely across the 19-nation currency bloc, member states first need to agree to common deposit insurance, as well as a fund to handle the cost of bank failures. …
A more promising idea is a plan to impose a 3% levy on the revenue of global tech companies such as Facebook and Amazon. … The project needs to overcome opposition from small low-tax states like Ireland – and faces fierce criticism from President Donald Trump. …

Fossil-fuel and transport companies could end up paying tens of billions more in taxes under the European Green Deal, a package of proposals to fight climate change unveiled … The Green Deal is a cornerstone of newly elected European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s plan for the European Union. 12/11/19 https://www.wsj.com/articles/european-green-deal-calls-for-tax-reforms-11576077677
So, this Green Deal will be costly and new taxes are being proposed for that as well as for banking insurance and digital companies.
Could Ursula von der Leyen possibly have been prophesied in the Book of Daniel?
20 “There shall arise in his place one who imposes taxes on the glorious kingdom; but within a few days he shall be destroyed, but not in anger or in battle. 21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, … (Daniel 11:20-21a)
The “vile person” is the final King of the North (who is also the final Beast of the Sea of Revelation 13:1-10).
Presuming that the Hebrew allows for a woman to hold this role, and it well may, is it possible that Ursula von der Leyen could fulfill that?
Is this prophecy about a European tax imposer for our time?
In April of 1960, the old Radio Church of God published the following:
All Bible commentators agree in the identities of the “King of the North” and the “King of the South” of Daniel 11. The wars that anciently ravaged the land of Palestine are now recorded history!
But notice! The prophecy continues to the “time of the end!”
Here, in your Bible, is a prophecy for our day!
What most students of Biblical prophecy seem NOT to understand is that prophecy is DUAL! …
Notice it! “Then shall stand up in his estate [in his place] a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom, but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle . . .” (Dan. 11:20). As a forerunner, this was historically fulfilled in that the tax-gatherer, Heliodorus, who was sent by Seleucus to Jerusalem to plunder the Temple.
Notice the “tax-gatherer’’ was to be succeeded by a “vile person!”
“And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honor of the kingdom, but he shall come in peaceably [in a time of peace] and obtain the kingdom by flatteries!” (Dan. 11:20-21.) Antiochus Epiphanes succeeded Heliodorus, obtained the kingdom through deceit, treachery and wild promises! … after ancient Rome fell, the Germans continued the empire! (Armstrong GT. Is Naziism Dead? Plain Truth, April 1960, p. 3)
In Daniel 11:21, referring in original, typical fulfillment to Antiochus Epiphanes, there shall stand up a vile person … So once again before the second coming of Christ, a vile leader will stop the daily sacrifices being offered … This same prophecy spoken by Jesus is also reported by Luke…21:20-24 (Armstrong HW. Personal, Plain Truth magazine, June 1967).
If Ursula von der Leyen does raise taxes and then is gone or dies soon, notice what happens shortly thereafter:
21“The next to come to power will be a despicable man who is not in line for royal succession. He will slip in when least expected and take over the kingdom by flattery and intrigue. 22Before him great armies will be swept away, including a covenant prince. 23With deceitful promises, he will make various alliances. He will become strong despite having only a handful of followers. 24Without warning he will enter the richest areas of the land. Then he will distribute among his followers the plunder and wealth of the rich—something his predecessors had never done. He will plot the overthrow of strongholds, but this will last for only a short while. (Daniel 11:21-24, NLT)
Time is getting short (see Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?). And if various taxes are raised in Europe, this may signal how close we may be to the rising up of the final King of the North, and also the Antichrist.
Now, there was a type of fulfillment of Daniel 11:20 thousands of years ago:
Verse 19 — Antiochus next turned his attention to the fortresses of his own land, in the east and west. But, attempting to recruit his dissipated wealth by the plunder of the Oriental Temple of Belus, in Elymais, he was killed, 187 B.C.
Verse 20 — Seleucus IV Philopator (187-176), his son, in an effort to raise money, sent a tax collector, Heliodorus, through Judea. But he reigned only 11 years, when Heliodorus poisoned him.
Verse 21 — he left no heir. But his brother, a younger son of Antiochus the Great, named Epiphanes (Antiochus IV), a contemptible reprobate, came by surprise and through flattery took the kingdom. (Armstrong HW. The Middle East in Prophecy. Worldwide Church of God, 1972)
But since many prophecies in Daniel 11 are actually for the “appointed time” (Daniel 11:27,29,35) of “the end” (Daniel 11:27,35,40) as the chapter shows, they still have future fulfillment.
Unless something changes, Ursula von der Leyen is supposed to be in office for five years. Seleucus IV Philopator lasted 11 years.
Because of the prophesied death of the raiser of taxes and the quick rise thereafter by the final King of the North, if Ursula von der Leyen is this individual, it would take time to see if she might be. Particularly since the taxes she has proposed have not become law nor, of course, collected.
Ursula von der Leyen, who also wants greater European unity and a stronger European military looks to be one to ‘watch’ (cf. Mark 13:37).

In the Summer of 2019, German Defense Minister Urusla von der Leyen was elected through a secret ballot by Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to be the European Union Commission President effective November 1, 2019. She has gone on record in favor of a strong European army independent of the USA as well as for calling for a more integrated Europe. Were these some of the reasons she was selected? Does she believe that Donald Trump and Brexit will help lead to an integrated and armed Europe? Like various other European leaders in the 21st century, Ursula von der Leyen has called for a ‘United States of Europe.’ Since 1948 the old Radio Church of God warned a ‘United States of Europe’ would be formed (though probably without that name). Is that going to happen? What does the Bible teach? Will Europe get its own ‘great army’? Will Europe reorganize under a dictator? Are Ursula von der Leyen’s actions likely to help lead to the rise of the European Beast? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues and more.
