Matthew 24: Temple Destruction, Sorrows, Tribulation, and the Return of Jesus

This is the eleventh part of a multi-part sermon series on the Gospel According to Matthew. Dr. Thiel begins by discussing the Temple and Jesus’ prophecy about its soon coming destruction. Dr. Thiel provides citations from historical sources which demonstrate that prediction came to pass. Dr. Thiel also covers the ‘beginning of sorrows’ and briefly discusses the ecumenical/interfaith movements, earthquakes, famines, and pestilences. He goes over passages related to persecution in Matthew 24 as well as related chapters in the Book of Daniel. He also goes over the necessity to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God to the world as a witness. Dr. Thiel discusses some ideas about the ‘holy place’ Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24:15. He also explains some things related to the time to try to avoid becoming pregnant, as well as the fact that Jesus expected His people in the end times to be keeping the Sabbath. Dr. Thiel mentioned the sequence leading to the Great Tribulation, why certain others have been in error, as well as scriptures related to the return of Jesus. Dr. Thiel also reads each and every verse in the twenty-fourth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel.

The negotiations between the European Union and USA related to the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) have not gone well:

Austrian Economy Minister Reinhold Mitterlehner has joined a call by France’s Trade Minister Matthias Fekl, urging his EU counterparts to end talks on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

In an interview for Friday’s edition of German newspaper Die Welt, Mitterlehner said free trade talks should begin “under a new title and with different substantive headings,” including greater transparency.

“TTIP has become a metaphor for the exuberant dealings of big corporations. That has a negative connotation. We hope for a good deal, but it has to be approached differently,” he added. …

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership would create the world’s biggest free trade area with a market of 850 million consumers stretching from Hawaii to Lithuania.

But the deal, under negotiation since 2013, has become a hot potato as key elections approach in the United States, France and Germany. Washington and Brussels are officially committed to sealing the free trade deal before President Barack Obama leaves office in January.

However, earlier this month German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel declared that negotiations were “de facto dead.” And France’s trade minister said the United States had demanded too much and not compromised enough. http://www.dw.com/en/austria-france-push-for-ttip-restart-under-new-name/a-19569802

Many European leaders have wanted Europe to take the lead on trade and other matters, and they ultimately will do so according to biblical prophecy. Whether or not TTIP exists.

Also, because of the Brexit, expect to see the UK try to make trade deals directly with the USA and Canada–but this will only help for a short time as all of those nations are doomed without national repentance (cf. Jeremiah 30:7).

Economically, the USA is no longer going to be the head, but the tail (cf. Deuteronomy 28:13,44). This European-dominated new world order will result in the Europeans being on top (but only for a while), and the USA and UK no longer dominant. So, the Europeans are already talking about some type of variant of TTIP. Look for a renamed trade deal (called something other than TTIP) between the USA and the Europeans. Such a deal will be proposed.

Last month and last week, I also posted about European concerns:

The European Union is concerned that it cannot compete well with US agriculture, and having a partial GMO barrier has helped it keep many of its farmers working. It also, in my view, has helped protect the health of Europeans as I do not believe that GMOs have been tested thoroughly enough to insure that they do not have negative consequences on any aspect of human health. … the Europeans are worried that the USA produces “substandard items” that do not conform to their rules. The Europeans expect the world to adopt their standards. Most Americans do not realize that for the past several decades the Europeans have persuaded more and more countries to accept THEIR rules. Since the Bible tells of a time when Europe will be the leading economic power in the world (cf. Revelation 18), it is somewhat logical to conclude that Europe will get many nations to accept their rules.  And this is happening–but the USA has been resisting in certain areas.  (Thiel B. TTIP & CETA protests show European anti-Americanism. BRUSSELS — Talks for a massive free trade deal between the United States and European Union, the world’s biggest economies, appear to be on the rocks.

An accord was supposed to breathe new life into global trade, setting a shining example for other countries as they debate whether to knock down barriers to commerce or insulate their home industries.

But EU ministers were deeply pessimistic Friday that the talks for such a pact can be concluded under the current U.S. administration. …

Opponents in Europe argue that it would water down EU standards. European consumer groups worry that food in the U.S. is not produced to the same health and environmental standards as in Europe. Europeans also seem more concerned about their privacy and the protection of their personal data, and sanctions can be levied for abuses. Others worry that banned chemicals might find their way onto the shelves of European stores. The EU bans more than 1,300 hazardous chemicals, compared with around a dozen in the U.S. …

WHEN ARE THE TALKS LIKELY TO BE CONCLUDED?

Senior European officials say there is little likelihood of a deal before President Barack Obama leaves office next January — the deadline set by negotiators in Brussels and Washington. After that, France and Germany hold general elections, and no big movement appears likely before the formation of a new government, sometime around the end of 2017. Austria and France are already calling for TTIP talks to be put on ice until after the U.S. presidential elections, then relaunched with a new name and mandate given the toxic public reaction in Europe so far. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/09/23/world/europe/ap-eu-europe-us-trade-qa.html?_r=0

Europe continues to want to resist GMOs and USA standards. Europeans want to set the standards for the world, and that is consistent with certain biblical prophecies.

Economically, the USA is no longer going to be the head, but the tail (cf. Deuteronomy 28:13,44).

The Bible tells that many will become rich by the coming European daughter of Babylon system, but that it will eventually end, and many will mourn:

11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’

19 “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’  (Revelation 18:11-19)

A massive trading system, also involving human trafficking, is discussed in the Hebrew scriptures as well (Ezekiel 27:12-16). Apparently after the USA is taken over )Daniel 11:39; Habakkuk 2:6-8), human trafficking is again going to become ‘legal.’ Many will be shocked to learn that the USA and its Anglo-Saxon allies are to be among those that will be bought and sold (see the article Will the Anglo-Saxon Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves? and/or watch the video Will the USA and other Anglo-nations be Divided and Their People Made Slaves?). Anti-American sentiments will be worse than most now imagine!

The election in the USA has greatly offended the Europeans. Donald Trump, in particular, scares them (see also Donald Trump in Prophecy) and Barack Obama has often disappointed them. Nor do they care for certain aspects of Hillary Clinton’s policies.

Irrespective of USA politics, the prophesied reality is that Europe will end up setting many of the world’s trade standards.

Long-term readers of this page realize that for many years, I have believed that a split would happen between the USA and the Europeans partially because of how the Europeans will view how the USA handles/mishandles bilateral trade issues (there are also other factors like USA debt, GMOs, etc.). It remains my view that trade disputes will be a factor in the Europeans taking over the USA. And that WILL HAPPEN (cf. Isaiah 10:5-11; Daniel 11:39).

Furthermore, the Europeans realize that the current election cycle in the USA will affect trade. This will not end well for the USA.

The Charlotte Riots: What They Are Not Telling You

Paul Joseph Watson points out something troubling: thugs burned down a city because a black cop shot someone, yet meanwhile the mainstream media spun it, or at least tried, as as “peaceful protest.” There is just one problem: violent criminals looting, attacking bystanders, attacking journalists, setting fires, smashing up cars, smashing up businesses and shooting at each other is not the a “peaceful protest.”And with all of these activities having been documented in the clip below, it is worth pointing out that:

• Stealing and looting cash registers from local businesses is not a legitimate form of protest
• A “protester” shooting another “protester” is not a legitimate form of protest.
• Physically attacking reporters is not a legitimate form of protest.
• Throwing rocks off bridges at passing vehicles full of families is not a legitimate form of protest
• Beating up innocent people in parking lots because they’re white is not a legitimate form of protest.
• Smashing up apartment windows where black people live to “protest” in favor of ‘Black Lives Matter’ is not a legitimate form of protest.
• Trashing your own neighborhood is not a legitimate form of protest.
• Looting the Charlotte Hornets team store so you can steal basketball merchandise is not a legitimate form of protest
• Attempting to hijack cars and terrify their innocent occupants is not a legitimate form of protest.

What was unfolding in Charlotte – and may still be – is not a protest. It’s a violent, unjustified riot by criminals and thugs. The question is why is the media giving it legitimacy by still referring to it as a protest?

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA —

A third night of demonstrations in Charlotte, North Carolina over the controversial police shooting of an African American man were largely peaceful.

Hundreds of demonstrators defied a midnight curfew, marching without incident in the early hours of Friday morning. Authorities said didn’t plan to enforce the curfew as long as the protests remained peaceful.

Television video showed some protesters shaking hands with smiling National Guard personnel in the early morning darkness.

Thursday night, large crowds of demonstrators marched through the heart of Charlotte – the state’s largest city. Tear gas was used against demonstrators at one location, but such incidents were rare.

Police in riot gear were dispersed throughout the city.

State of emergency declared

Governor Pat McCrory, a former mayor of Charlotte, had earlier declared a state of emergency, and he said police would arrest lawbreakers. “We cannot tolerate any type of violence … or destruction of property,” McCrory said. http://www.voanews.com/a/charlotte-protests-keith-lamont-scott-justin-carr/3522032.html

Notice that because parts of Charlotte have basically become a police state, under a ‘state of emergency,’ that the violence was limited and LESS tear gas was used than the night before. And the media slant was that it was hundreds of ‘peaceful protesters’ who just happened to intentionally violate the curfew law that was in place.

In my view, selective media coverage is related to three factors:

1. The media supports the race-baiting agenda of many political leaders (which, in my view, is part of what has led to the protests).
2. The media is less interested in a balanced representation of truth, but instead believes it should play more of a political role.
3. The media is afraid that if they do not come across as sufficiently sympathetic to the protesters, that they will become targets themselves (and I saw one ‘protester’ assault a reporter on the news) and/or that they will be accused of being racists themselves.

Cellphone video taken by Keith Lamont Scott’s wife captured the broad-daylight encounter that ended the 43-year-old black man’s life and reveals a dispute between the woman and police officers over whether Scott was armed.

The video, released on Friday to NBC News and the New York Times, shows the tense moments that lead up to and after Tuesday afternoon’s fatal police shooting but does not show the shooting itself. Scott’s wife, Rakeyia Scott, can be heard pleading with cops not to shoot and insisting her disabled husband “has no weapon” while cops shout at the man to drop his gun.

The disturbing video emerged as unrest in Charlotte carries on into a fourth night of protesting and pressure mounts from both local and national officials for police to release dashcam footage of the shooting. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/keith-lamont-scott-wife-releases-video-fatal-police-shooting-article-1.2803431

While it is NOT totally clear yet IF Keith Scott had a gun, it is clear that police claimed he did and that they did not heed his wife’s pleas.

We are in violent times and the release of the cell phone data will likely be a factor in some protesting in Charlotte over the weekend.

Consider the following prophecy for the end times:

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)

Speaking of prophecies, the Bible shows that God is against violence and that destruction will come because of it:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled. (Ezekiel 7:23-24)

Notice that the above says that there will be violence in the city. We have seen violence in the city of Charlotte this week. But also notice that later “the worst of the Gentiles” will come.

Essentially, this is a prophecy related to the ‘beginning of sorrows’ (Matthew 24:4-8) to be followed by the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21).

It remains my view that we currently are in the beginning of sorrows that Jesus prophesied. The Great Tribulation is coming relatively soon.

September 23rd is the day recognized by the Catholics of Rome to honor Linus of Rome. Typically he is shown second on the list of bishops that purport to show the Roman Catholic pontiffs and is the claimed successor to the Apostle Peter. For information about him in the Spanish language, check out Linus no fue obispo de Roma.

There is an individual named Linus in the Bible. He is mentioned one time. Here is the only passage that mentions him:

Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. Erastus stayed in Corinth, but Trophimus I have left in Miletus sick. Do your utmost to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, as well as Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brethren. The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen (2 Timothy 4:19-22).

The above was probably written, in approximately 67 A.D. – 68 A.D., by the Apostle Paul while in prison in Rome to the evangelist Timothy, who was in Ephesus.

This passage shows that Paul knew someone named Linus. Linus, therefore knew Paul, and was in Rome when Paul wrote this letter. It can probably be reasonably implied that Linus probably knew Timothy, and perhaps others in Ephesus. And based on Paul’s writings, it can be concluded that Paul, at that time, considered that particular Linus to be a Christian. It is probably logical to conclude that Linus met with Paul in prison on multiple occasions and probably, like the others, assisted him to some degree.

What it does not show is that Linus was to be the leader of those in Rome or ordained by Peter. Others are listed before him, hence, at least at the time Paul wrote this letter, there is no preeminence for Linus in Rome (and it should be noted that one of the proofs that Rome often cites to prove that Peter had preeminence is that Peter was quite often listed first in various New Testament passages involving multiple people). Linus simply was one of many who knew and probably assisted the Apostle Paul. The lack of emphasis/preeminence in Paul’s writings would seem to suggest that Linus could not have been the one to become the “bishop of Rome” and the successor of Peter and Paul in 67 A.D. Especially since it is believed that the Apostle Paul probably did not die until 68 A.D.

Whether or not this is the same individual named Linus that many Roman Catholics consider to be the first pope (the first “bishop of Rome”) to succeed Peter cannot be determined from the passages in 2 Timothy. This is confirmed by Catholic scholars, such as J.P. Kirsch, who wrote:

We cannot be positive whether this identification of the pope as being the Linus mentioned in II Timothy 4:21, goes back to an ancient and reliable source, or originated later on account of the similarity of the name (Kirsch J.P. Transcribed by Gerard Haffner. Pope St. Linus. The Catholic Encyclopedia, Volume IX. Copyright © 1910 by Robert Appleton Company. Online Edition Copyright © 2003 by K. Knight. But it seems that even if the Roman Catholics are referring to the same person, that he was not the one who was going to immediately become THE bishop of Rome–if he was it would be logical if Paul would have given Linus some special mention. Instead, he is simply grouped in with several others in Rome at that time (nor is Linus even mentioned first).

There are several demonstrably incorrect claims made about him by some in the Church of Rome. For example, here is something from a book I purchased in Vatican City:

2. LINUS, ST. (67-76)…He was the first to take up the inheritance of St. Peter…He made disposition for women to be admitted to the holy places and attend functions with their heads covered…He was buried beside St. Peter in the first Vatican burial spot. It is certain that he did exist while some have thrown doubt on his election to the pontificate. (Lopes A. The Popes: The lives of the pontiffs through 2000 years of history. Futura Edizoni as sponsored by the Pontifical Administration, Roma, 1997, p. 1)

The main historical fact is that Linus’ name showed up on a list. Not that he was Peter’s successor.

Here is some of what the Catholic scholar J.P. Kirsch wrote in The Catholic Encyclopedia about Linus:

The “Liber Pontificalis” asserts that Linus’s home was in Tuscany, and that his father’s name was Herculanus; but we cannot discover the origin of this assertion. According to the same work on the popes, Linus is supposed to have issued a decree “in conformity with the ordinance of St. Peter”, that women should have their heads covered in church. Without doubt this decree is apocryphal, and copied by the author of the “Liber Pontificalis” from the first Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians (11:5) and arbitrarily attributed to the first successor of the Apostle in Rome. The statement made in the same source, that Linus suffered martyrdom, cannot be proved and is improbable. (Kirsch J.P. Transcribed by Gerard Haffner. Pope St. Linus. Much about Linus is more than improbable.

Netherland’s Priest Roderick Vonhögen is the Chief Executive Officer of a pro-Catholic media group (SQPN) which correctly teaches, “Pope Saint Linus…ancient documents about his papacy have proven to be inaccurate or apocryphal” (Pope Saint Linus. saints.sqpn.com/saintl23.htm, viewed 09/18/12).

Yet, Linus is claimed to have been the first successor of Peter and head of all Christendom by the Church of Rome.

Here is what John O’Malley, a Jesuit Priest and Catholic historian, published:

The earliest lists of popes begin, not with Peter, but with a man named Linus. The reason Peter’s name was not listed was because he was an apostle, which was a super-category, much superior to pope or bishop…

The Christian community at Rome well into the second century operated as a collection of separate communites without any central structure…Rome was a constellation of house churches, independent of one another, each of which was loosely governed by an elder. The communities thus basically followed the pattern of the Jewish synagogues out of which they developed. (O’Malley JW. A History of the Popes. Sheed & Ward, 2009, p. 11)

It should be pointed out that the Apostle John outlived Linus and some of the others considered to have been early “popes.” Thus, the above admission is consistent with the Church of God view that the leadership of the Christian church in the late first century was clearly in Asia Minor, and not Rome, as that is where the Apostle John was based.

The Apostle Paul noted that there were three leaders in Jerusalem during one of his visits there:

James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars (Galatians 2:9).

He undoubtedly listed James first because James was the leader who actually lived in Jerusalem (the others were mainly visiting then). But notice that Paul then listed Cephas, who is Peter, and then John. This may suggest that Paul considered that Peter, at that time, had higher authority, sometimes called primacy, than John then did. It also shows that Peter apparently conferred with John, hence Peter helped train him as a potential successor.

Now, possibly around 64-67 A.D., Peter was killed, hence he no longer held physical primacy over the remaining apostles.

As it turned out John greatly outlived Peter and is believed to have lived as late as 98-105 A.D. (he also outlived James).

John was an apostle, the early leaders of Rome were only presbyters.

The Bible clearly teaches that apostles were first (I Corinthians 12:28). Notice that even Roman Catholic scholars understand:

Unlike Peter, the pope is neither an apostle nor an eyewitness of the Risen Lord (McBrien, Richard P. Lives of the Popes: The Pontiffs from St. Peter to Benedict XVI. Harper, San Francisco, 2005 updated ed., p.33).

Since that is true, it makes no sense that the Apostle John would be somehow subordinate to Linus, Anacletus, Clement, and Evaristus, all of whom have been claimed to have been “bishop of Rome” and supposedly had primacy over all Christianity after Peter died and while John was still alive.

Note that Paul wrote:

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles (1 Corinthians 12:28).

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11).

And since the Bible teaches that the true church is first led by apostles and other positions are lower ranked, there is no way that the Apostle John would have been below any bishop (essentially a pastor) in rank–Note that although the Bible uses the Greek term for pastor more than the one for bishop, it seems to show that the terms are interchangeable (see I Peter 2:25).

Hence, after Peter died (as well as the other apostles), it is clear that the one true successor–who had been appointed by Christ Himself–would be the Apostle John (the last of the original apostles to die) and that true apostolic successors would probably have had contact with him. John was the successor to Peter. This is consistent with the Bible.

It should also be mentioned that none of the Roman Bishops took the title Pope until the late 4th century, so there is no way that Linus was Pope Linus. It is also not clear that the early leaders in Rome were called ‘bishop’ prior to Anicetus in the mid-second century A.D.

Anyway, there likely was a genuine Church of God Christian leader in Rome named Linus who may have been an elder. Since there is no contemporary biblical nor other historical evidence that Rome had a bishop over it then, etc. Linus was certainly not the “Bishop of Rome” who somehow supposedly succeeded the Apostle Peter. Catholics and others might be surprised to learn that the first known “Bishop of Rome” did not take that title until the mid-second century and that title “Pope” or Pontificus Maximus was not taken by the bishops of Rome until the late fourth century.

The Eurasian Economic Union is looking to make deals with southeast Asia:

Veronika Nikishina, the trade minister for the Eurasian Economic Commission Board, declared that the free trade agreement (FTA) signed between the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) – which comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan – and Vietnam will come into effect on 5 October 2016.  …
This historic FTA bears much significance for Vietnam and the region. Touted as the next manufacturing hub of the world, the FTA will provide Vietnam-based manufacturers with access to a host of essential resources such as oil, gas, iron and steel, further augmenting Vietnam’s position as an emerging manufacturing powerhouse. The agreement will also open Vietnam to a market of 175 million people, with an estimated GDP of $2.5 trillion.

Likewise, member states of the EEU look set to benefit from the FTA by using Vietnam as a gateway into the promising ASEAN market. As the largest market in the bloc, Russia stands to gain the most from this agreement. Moscow and Hanoi have signed an agreement to produce Russian cars in Vietnam. These made-in-Vietnam Russian cars will enjoy tariff-free access to the rest of ASEAN as part of the free trade area between member states.

Looking beyond Vietnam, the Eurasian Economic Union has set its sights on expanding ties with other ASEAN member states. In particular, Singapore and the EEU will conduct a joint feasibility study on a free trade deal. Earlier this year, Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry Mr Koh Poh Koon visited all five states to identify possible opportunities for economic collaboration.

Could this deal bring economic growth and some prosperity to the Eurasian Economic Union?

Yes.

Could this deal be a step towards the formation of a military confederation that will one day gather in Armageddon?

More are expected as Russia’s Vladimir Putin has been working to enlarge the Eurasian Economic Union.

Vladimir Putin has publicly stated that his goal is to enlarge the Customs Union to all post-Soviet states, excluding the three Baltic EU member states. His basic appeal is that the various Eurasian nations are geographically close to each other, often share certain cultural ties, are not particularly loved by the West, and will improve their economies by integrating more with the EEU.

And where that expansion does not happen, he is hoping to increase the EEU’s influence. The more nations that are part of the EEU and the more deals that the EEU is involved in, the more relevant it becomes in the world. China, India, and Pakistan have all expressed at least trade interest with the EEU. Russia, China, and others have expressed interest in working together to eliminate the US dollar as the basis of international trade as well as to reduce US influence in many parts of the world. The EEU and deals it has made with China are consistent with this.

As far as official EEU membership goes, the nation of Tajikistan was formally invited to join the union and has expressed its interest in acceding. “Break-away” regions of Moldova (Transnistria), Ukraine (Donetsk and Lugansk)  and Georgia (South Ossetia and Abkhazia) have expressed a desire to join the Eurasian Customs Union and integrate into the Eurasian Economic Union. Places like Mongolia and Serbia have recently expressed interest. Some think perhaps Uzbekistan will someday as well.

It should be pointed out that all EEU member states participate in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, an intergovernmental mutual defense alliance.

Interestingly, a military confederation of nations including Russia, is prophesied to form. The EEU may be a step in making that happen (although Russia already has military alliances with places like China which are not currently officially part of the EEU).

In the Book of Jeremiah, it is shown that a northern people (which most logically would seem to have to be Russia at this stage) will be part of the force that concerns and then eventually invades, end time Babylon (which will be a European power):

9 For behold, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon
An assembly of great nations from the north country,
And they shall array themselves against her;
From there she shall be captured.
Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior;
None shall return in vain. (Jeremiah 50:9)

50:41 Behold, a people shall come from the north,
And a great nation and many kings
Shall be raised up from the ends of the earth.
42 They shall hold the bow and the lance;
They are cruel and shall not show mercy.
Their voice shall roar like the sea;
They shall ride on horses,
Set in array, like a man for the battle,
Against you, O daughter of Babylon. (Jeremiah 50:41-42).

From a European perspective, Russia is a north country whose borders reach to the eastern ends of the earth.

Does any of this have any relationship to Armageddon?

Yes.

The Bible tells of a time when there will be a confederation of the ‘kings of the east’ that will gather at Armageddon:

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. (Revelation 16:12-16)

This will include Eurasian  nations–whether or not they are formally in a group like the EEU.

In Daniel, we see that the final King of the North, who is European (see also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?) as well as the end time ‘daughter of Babylon,’ is concerned about a confederation to its north and east:

44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him. (Daniel 11:44-45)

It is the Eurasian nations that are north and east of Europe. Daniel tells of a Eurasian confederation that will frighten Europe in the end.

Notice also that Isaiah shows Babylon will have problems with a group from a far country:

1 The burden against Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
2 “Lift up a banner on the high mountain,Raise your voice to them; Wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have also called My mighty ones for My anger–Those who rejoice in My exaltation.” 4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, Like that of many people! A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together! The LORD of hosts musters The army for battle. 5 They come from a far country, From the end of heaven–The LORD and His weapons of indignation,To destroy the whole land. 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is at hand!It will come as destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands will be limp, Every man’s heart will melt, 8 And they will be afraid. Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them; They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth; They will be amazed at one another; Their faces will be like flames (Isaiah 13:1-8).

Thus, both the accounts in Jeremiah and Isaiah seem related to the same invaders. This is referring to an end time confederation that has a distance to travel–apparently a type of union of powers from the east including Russia, who is also the major power of the far north.

And this type of confederation is something that Vladimir Putin has repeatedly called for. This is something he and others will continue to advocate and work towards. In the end, it will form.

A northern confederation (that appears to be led by Russia and probably includes the far north and far east/Pacific coast portion of Asia) will destroy the European Babylon. Although many worry that Russia will be a major military threat to the USA, the reality is that the Bible indicates that it will be the Europeans that will receive a massive attack involving Russia.

As for the USA itself, Bible prophecy shows that it will be eliminated by a surprising (Revelation 13:4; Isaiah 10:5-12) European power (Daniel 11:39) years before Armageddon.

Steps towards Armageddon, as well as the elimination of the USA, are in process.

There are conflicting reports about the shooting, which happened during a second night of unrest in Charlotte, North Carolina. Police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse angry demonstrators. …

North Carolina governor Pat McCrory later declared a state of emergency in Charlotte due to the unrest, a statement from his office said.

Clashes repeated

Wednesday’s protest got out of control after several hundred demonstrators approached a downtown intersection and began to surround and taunt groups of police and their patrol cars.

Some protesters banged on glass windows, others threw objects at police and stood on cars as police fired tear gas and rubber bullets, prompting demonstrators to run. Protesters were also seen looting a convenience store after smashing its windows. …

The governor of North Carolina declared a state of emergency in Charlotte and deployed National Guard troops in the city.

Early in the night there were peaceful marches, but they later turned violent with clashes erupting between police in riot gear and protesters. Officers fired tear gas to try to disperse crowds. Some people smashed store windows and set small fires in streets.

The situation was largely calm by the early hours of Thursday. …

Clinton, Trump weigh in

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that the killings are “unbearable and need to become intolerable.”

She said the country needs strength, love and kindness and that “we are safer when communities respect police and police respect communities.”

The scene was total chaos, according to the report headlined, “1 shot during uptown protests over officer-involved shooting.”

“Moments earlier, police fired tear gas at protesters at the entrance to the Omni Hotel in uptown Charlotte. Loud booms sounded, and police said explosives had been used,” the newspaper reported.

“Your life is in danger, you need to move!” shouted police in riot gear. …

Officers fired rubber bullets into the crowd around 9:45 p.m., according to the report. Fox News reported rioters were “lobbing bottles and lobbing rocks at police,” who set up a barrier outside the Omni hotel. …

Keith Lamont Scott, 43, was killed at an apartment complex on the city’s northeast side while police were trying to serve a warrant for a different man in the same complex.

Charlotte police warned Scott again and again to drop his handgun, said Police Chief Kerr Putney during a news conference on Wednesday.

“The officers gave loud, clear verbal commands which were also heard by many of the witnesses. They were instructing the subject, once he got out of the vehicle, to drop the weapon … Mr. Scott exited his vehicle armed with a handgun as the officers continued to yell at him to drop it.”

Scott’s family members said he was simply sitting in his car, reading a book while waiting to pick up his son from school.

Officers did not find a book where Scott was shot, said Putney.

The violence began after Scott’s daughter posted a profanity-laced, hour-long video on Facebook, saying her father had an unspecified disability and was unarmed.

A man described as the brother of Scott is heard calling all white people “f––ing devils” in a video captured shortly after Scott was killed.

“I just know that all white people are f—ing devils.” Then he adds, “All white cops are f—ing devils, and white people.”

The officer who killed Scott, Brentley Vinson, is also black….

But that was not all… As Mediaite notes, among the many reports of violence from the Charlotte, North Carolina unrest Wednesday night was one particular shocking example: rioters tried to throw a news photographer into a burning fire. Last night, I watched a lot of what was reported live from Charlotte. The news showed looting in progress as well as various ones taunting police officers.

As protests in Charlotte descended into chaos and violent outbreaks on Wednesday night, a conservative columnist for USA Today put out a provocative tweet that seems to have led to his suspension on social media.

University of Tennessee law professor Glenn Reynolds is creator of the Instapundit blog, and he was following along with the protests being held after the fatal police shooting Keith Lamont Scott. More violence and injuries is not the solution to the problems in Charlotte. This call to ‘run them down’ will further inflame many of the protesters.

Last night, the police used a lot of tear gas, and the protesters often threw the tear gas canisters back at the police.

As far as tear gas goes, some might find the following anti-tear gas information of interest:

What is tear gas? What are “lachrymatory agents”?

The term “tear gas” is applied to numerous substances, although the most common one currently in use internationally is what is called “CS gas.” CS is one of many so-called “nonlethal” chemical weapons referred to as “lachrymatory agents” (which comes from “lacrima,” the latin word for “tear.”) The category “lachrymatory agents” also includes chemicals commonly known as pepper spray (OC, PAVA) and mace (CN). Technically, tear gas and pepper spray are thought of as different substances. (For instance, most people probably think of tear gas as a gas and pepper spray as a liquid, however either chemical can come in various forms depending on how it is prepared.) However, they are both lachrymatory agents used by the state to stifle dissent and to terrorize prisoners, and they are often manufactured by the same companies (sometimes they are also combined in the same product.)

The term “tear gas” is a misnomer. For one thing, “tear gas” seems to imply something innocuous— you would think it’s just a chemical that makes you tear up. In fact, tear gas is a dangerous, potentially lethal chemical agent which is outlawed under the Chemical Weapons Convention for use during wartime. As the Omega Research Foundation argues: “Less-lethal weapons are presented as more acceptable alternatives to guns. But these weapons augment rather than replace the more lethal weapons. Euphemistic labels are used to create the impression that these weapons represent soft and gentle forms of control. CS is never referred to by the authorities as vomit gas, in spite of its capacity to cause violent retching.” NGO Physicians for Human Rights believes that “ ‘tear gas’ is a misnomer for a group of poisonous gases which, far from being innocuous, have serious acute and longer-term adverse effects on the health of significant numbers of those exposed.” We aim to change the conversation on tear gas by calling this so-called “nonlethal” weapon what it is: a chemical weapon. http://facingteargas.org/bp/36/what-tear-gas

I do not believe that tear gas is the solution to crime (see Crime can be stopped…here’s how! and/or watch a related sermon: Crime and How it Will be Stopped!).

Nor did it appear that the protesters had the answers to it either (and that is ignoring the looters and the violent protesters who acted as criminals themselves).

Those involved with protests (including police) should consider that the Bible teaches:

2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil (Exodus 23:2)

31 Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. (Proverbs 3:31, NLT)

I am not saying that peaceful protests are evil, but that sometimes people are influenced to do wrong things by crowds.

There was a lot of restrained hatred in Charlotte last night (from both the police and the protesters), though not all of it was restrained, and unneeded violence occurred.

Isaiah was inspired to write:

2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood,
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken lies,
Your tongue has muttered perversity.

4 No one calls for justice,
Nor does any plead for truth.
They trust in empty words and speak lies;
They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity.
5 They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web;
He who eats of their eggs dies,
And from that which is crushed a viper breaks out.

6 Their webs will not become garments,
Nor will they cover themselves with their works;
Their works are works of iniquity,
And the act of violence is in their hands.
7 Their feet run to evil,
And they make haste to shed innocent blood;
Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity;
Wasting and destruction are in their paths.
8 The way of peace they have not known,
And there is no justice in their ways;
They have made themselves crooked paths;
Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:2-8)

The USA clearly does have a problem with violence. Over the past many years, politicians have fanned the flames for this and I expect much worse violence in the future in the USA.

The Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21) will also come.

Yet the time will come when violence will end. Isaiah was also inspired to write:

15 “Whereas you have been forsaken and hated,
So that no one went through you,
I will make you an eternal excellence,
A joy of many generations.
16 You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles,
And milk the breast of kings;
You shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior
And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 “Instead of bronze I will bring gold,
Instead of iron I will bring silver,
Instead of wood, bronze,
And instead of stones, iron.
I will also make your officers peace,
And your magistrates righteousness.
18 Violence shall no longer be heard in your land,
Neither wasting nor destruction within your borders;
But you shall call your walls Salvation,
And your gates Praise.

19 “The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;
But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light,
And your God your glory. (Isaiah 60:15-19)

God’s Kingdom will ultimately solve the problems of violence and hatred.

Pray as Jesus taught, “Thy Kingdom come” (Matthew 6:10).

  Should you keep the Fall Holy Days?

The ‘Fall’ Holy Days come every year in September and/or October on the Roman calendar. Some call them Jewish holidays, but they were kept by Jesus, the apostles, and their early faithful followers. Should you keep them? What does the Bible teach? What do records of church history teach? What does the Bible teach about the Feasts of Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles, and the Last Great Day?

Those of us faithful in the Continuing Church of God who are able, keep the Feast of Tabernacles and believe that it foreshadows the coming millennium.

Notice also that the Catholic, Orthodox, and Church of God Saint Polycarp of Smyrna kept the Fall Holy Days:

I will give the narration in order, thus coming down to the history of the blessed Polycarp…

So also he pursued the reading of the Scriptures from childhood to old age, himself reading in church; and he recommended it to others, saying that the reading of the law and the prophets was the forerunner of grace, preparing and making straight the ways of the Lord, that is the hearts, which are like tablets whereon certain harsh beliefs and conceptions that were written before perfect knowledge came, are through the inculcation of the Old Testament, and the correct interpretation following thereupon, first smoothed and levelled, that, when the Holy Spirit comes as a pen, the grace and joy of the voice of the Gospel and of the doctrine of the immortal and heavenly Christ may be inscribed on them. And he said that they could not otherwise receive the impression of the seal which is given by baptism and engrave and exhibit the form conveyed in it, unless the wax were first softened and filled the deep parts. So also he thought that the hearts of the hearers ought to be softened and yield to the impress of the Word. For he said that it unfolded and opened, like closed doors, the minds of recent comers; and accordingly the prophet was bidden by God, Cry out mightily and spare not, Raise thy voice as a trumpet. What must one say, when even He that was gentler than all men so appeals and cries out at the feast of Tabernacles? For it is written; And on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to Me and drink. (Pionius, Life of Polycarp (1889) from J. B. Lightfoot, The Apostolic Fathers, vol. 3.2, pp.488-506.)

Polycarp, according to the above, seems to have endorsed the Fall Holy Day season which begins with the Feast of Trumpets, includes the Feast of Tabernacles, and ends on The Last Great Day. And while the Day of Atonement was not specifically mentioned above, it was mentioned in the Book of Acts, where it is referred to as the Fast (Acts 27:9).

While the Greco-Roman churches have some acknowledgement of the Spring Holy Days, historically they have not observed those that are in the Fall, despite the fact that people that they claim as saints, such as the Apostle Paul and Polycarp of Smyrna actually did.

During the Middle Ages the fall holidays were observed, though records are limited.

Notice the following report:

Under the name of Passagini, we have the clearest sort of statement that these people, about 1200, observed the whole Old Testament law, including the Sabbath and FESTIVALS! People called Cathars at Cologne, Germany, kept a fall festival, called “Malilosa”, even before Waldo began to preach. Compare this unexplained name with Hebrew “melilah” (a harvested ear of grain — Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) and the Biblical title “Feast of Ingathering” (Ex. 23:16). How much more we might have known about these Middle Ages’ Feasts of Tabernacles had not the Inquisitors so zealously burned the records! The three-part division of tithes paid the Waldensian Church is significant. Even in the 1500′s the same division continued. “The money given us by the people is carried to the aforesaid general council, and is delivered in the presence of all, and there it is received by the most ancients (the elders), and part thereof is given to those that are wayfaring men, according to their necessities, and part unto the poor” (George Morel, Waldensian elder, quoted by Lennard, “History of the Waldenses”). 1. Compare this practice with Num. 18:21 and Deut. 14:22-25, 28-29. Isn’t it exactly what the Bible commands?… Most authors have ASSUMED the “wayfaring men” were the traveling “barbel.” But THEIR expenses would have been paid from the money given the elders, at EVERY time of year, for the direct conduct of the Work — “first” tithe and offerings. Notice that in Numbers 18:21. What Morel then mentions is a “second” tithe, for those traveling to and from the festivals — wayfaring men; and following it, the “third” to the poor. See the explanation in Deut. 14. Feast goers who had more “second tithe” than they needed shared their excess with those who had need, even as they do today! (LESSON 51 (1968) AMBASSADOR COLLEGE BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE “And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place …” Rev. 12:6).

Furthermore, Sabbath-keepers in Transylvania in the 1500s and probably later kept the Fall Holy Days such as the Day of Atonement and the Feast of Trumpets (called Day of Remembrance below):

The Sabbatarians viewed themselves as converted Gentiles..They held to the biblical holidays…The Day of Atonement was a day of fasting, although they emphasized that pentinence is more easily acheived by a peaceful and quiet meditation on the law and one’s life than by fasting. The Day of Remembrance (New Year, which they celebrated in the Fall of the year) was the day on which they thanked God especially for the creation of the universe. There is no mention of circumcision, so it is unlikely that they practiced circumcision (Liechty D. Sabbatarianism in the Sixteenth Century. Andrews University Press, Berrien Springs (MI), 1993, pp. 61-62).

And the Fall Holidays are still observed into the 21sth century by many Sabbath-keeping Church of God groups, such as the Continuing Church of God.

The biblical Holy Days (both Spring and Fall) were kept by early, faithful Christians, and this is clear from both scripture and early church records. And there is a scattering of later records showing that they have been kept by some professors of Christ throughout history. The first Holy Day this Fall season is the Feast of Trumpets (called Rosh Hashanah by the Jews) which begins October 2nd, 2016 at sunset until sunset October 3rd, 2016.

The second Holy Day this Fall season is the Day of Atonement (called Yom Kippur by the Jews) which begin October 11th, 2016 at sunset until sunset October 12th.

The seven day Feast of Tabernacles begins at sunset October 16th, continues until sunset October 23rd, and is immediately followed by the Last Great Day, which ends October 24th, 2016 at sunset. Most people travel to attend the Feast of Tabernacles (here is a link to CCOGs Feast of Tabernacles’ Sites for 2016). This has limited information on many Feast of Tabernacles locations for this Fall feast.)

Then, other than the weekly Sabbaths, after the Last Great Day there are no Holy Days until Passover in the Spring.

The early, faithful, Christians kept what many now refer to as “Jewish” holidays. Jesus, Paul, and the apostles did. They were part of “the faith once for all delivered unto the saints” (Jude 3).

Perhaps you should look into them more?

Again, the first one this year is the Feast of Trumpets which starts after sunset on the 2nd of October.

Question:

Over the years you have made several comments about directional changes and have alluded to the idea that a crossroads is coming in that we will either enter another Dark Age or we will see the light towards greater liberty and freedom. More recently, you mentioned the year 2032 as a critical year in this regard.

In addition, you have mentioned that Trump winning the election would postpone the inevitable chaos, but that HRC winning would speed it along.

In terms of the distal effects of the November election on 2032, does either Trump or Clinton winning increase the likelihood of entering a Dark Age over something more hopeful? Should we be attempting to kick the can down the road or should we get it over with?

Answer:

Hillary is just corrupt and rotten to the core. She represents everything that is wrong with our political economy. Politicians no longer care about the people. Every election promises “change” in some variation.

Indeed, it was Mark Twain who put it best during the last century: “If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it.” …

We are approaching the grave danger of a Dark Age beginning from the aftermath of 2032. Hopefully, I will be gone by then and will not have to face this horrible event. Yet Dark Ages are reoccurring events throughout history and in all cultures. … he cause is always political corruption. …

The Roman Monetary Crisis that saw silver vanish by 268AD, was naturally followed by  an attempt to restore the monetary system. A new bronze coin was introduced in 295AD known as the Follis. Again, one 52 year cycle saw its collapse from over 16 grams to under just 2 grams.

By the time you come toward the very end of the Roman Empire, you rarely find any bronze and when you do, it is less than an American penny. Coinage is debased because of the corruption in government. Those who think restoring the gold standard would do anything are wrong. Such monetary reforms appear repeatedly throughout history with little lasting impact. Let’s look at five of his points.

First, is some type of ‘dark age’ coming?

Yes.

Jesus foretold it:

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. (Matthew 24:21-22)

While Martin Armstrong seems to believe that history will basically be repeating itself, Jesus said the great tribulation will be worse than anything that has happened before. Hence, worse than previous ‘dark ages.’  As far as when it may happen and some about how it will be, check out the article When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?

Second, voting for the lessor of two evils is still a vote for evil. It is also often difficult for humans to know which human is ‘more evil’ than another. Third, as far a Hillary Clinton goes, I have written a book featuring her: Hillary Clinton, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States. Should Donald Trump be elected as the next President of the United States, I plan to write a similar book featuring him (and he is discussed in the book Hillary Clinton, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States, 2nd edition.

Fourth, the US dollar used to be backed by gold and silver. Yet now, because the US dollar is not truly backed by anything tangible (other than a semi-agreement with Saudi Arabia to price oil in dollars), the excess production of US dollars via debt/quantitative easing dilutes the value. This is a modern form of ‘dross’ (a coin that is worth less than it appears because it is not pure silver or gold despite its outward appearance).

As far as currency debasement of coinage goes, starting in 1965 the USA started to remove silver from its then silver coins and replace it with cheaper metals. That has been done by others in the past.

Governments have devalued their currencies by making their coins ‘dross’ and this has led to various problems throughout history. Wikipedia noted:

The Antoninianus was a coin used during the Roman Empire thought to have been valued at 2 denarii. It was initially silver, but was slowly debased to bronze. The coin was introduced by Caracalla in early 215 …

But even at its introduction the silver content was only equal to 1.5 denarii. This helped create inflation – people rapidly hoarded the denarii, while both buyers and sellers recognised the new coin had a lower intrinsic value and elevated their prices to compensate. Silver bullion supplies were running short since the Roman Empire was no longer conquering new territory, the Iberian silver mines were exhausted and a series of soldier emperors and usurpers needed coin to pay their troops and buy their loyalty. So each new issue of the antoninianus had less silver in it than the last, and each contributed to ever increasing inflation.

In other words, it was a ‘dross’ coin (a picture of the Antoninianus is shown at the beginning of this post; Diocletian was the Roman emperor from 284 to 305). The USA continues to try to cheapen its remaining coins as well.

As I have mentioned in the past, this diluting of the value of coinage/currency is condemned in the Bible:

4 Take away the dross from silver (Proverbs 25:4a).

22 Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water. (Isaiah 1:22)

25 I will turn My hand against you, And thoroughly purge away your dross, And take away all your alloy. (Isaiah 1:25)

18 “Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me; they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead, in the midst of a furnace; they have become dross from silver. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20 As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you. 21 Yes, I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst. 22 As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall you be melted in its midst; then you shall know that I, the Lord, have poured out My fury on you.’” (Ezekiel 22:18-22)

Although the Bible warns against using dross and diluting the money supply, modern ‘experts’ have a different view. The wrong views on economics will lead to economic problems and ultimately the total crash of the dollar of the USA. Economic problems in Europe may well propel the rise of the Beast power that the Bible warns about.

The USA has repeatedly proven that economic pressures result in its increasing its debt. This has worked for a while, but the time will come when it will end in disaster (cf. Habakkuk 2:4-8).

Fifth, once the USA is taken over (Daniel 11:39), gold will have value (Daniel 11:43; Revelation 18). But, in time, gold will become less than worthless just prior to Jesus’ return (Ezekiel 7:19; see also The Plain Truth About Gold in Prophecy. How Should a Christian View Gold?).

Does the USA have any hope?

Yes, national repentance:

14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14)

But at this stage, that does not seem to be likely.

The Bible points out that the descendants of Jacob and Joseph are God’s people (Psalm 77:15; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel). But, instead of repenting, the USA has been pushing a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, pro-violence, and pro-debt message. The shock that will come to the USA and the rest of the world (Revelation 13:4) will not just be the end of the USA’s financial dominance, but the end of it militarily (Daniel 11:39).

Hosea prophesied that because the Israelites’ rejected God’s instruction, “the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to repent” (Hosea 11:1–5). The final time of the Gentiles is getting nearer (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin? 2016, 2017, or 2018?).

While the Bible shows that Assyrian Europe will also eventually be punished for what it will do to the USA (e.g. Isaiah 10:12), the Bible shows that the USA will be punished first (Isaiah 10:5-11; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel).

The solution to the problems in the USA is not investments in the dollar of the USA–which will one day fail–but the coming Kingdom of God. Notice what Jesus taught:

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:31-33)

The police shooting of a man in Charlotte, N.C., sparked overnight protests and unrest, temporarily shutting down a major interstate in the area.

The protests began Tuesday night after police shot and killed 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott at an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

Officers were at the complex to serve a warrant for a different man, The Associated Press reports, when they saw Scott in a car. Police say he came out of the vehicle with a gun.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Kerr Putney said that officers gave the man multiple verbal warnings to drop his weapon before he was shot. Putney says a handgun was recovered on the scene, and that witnesses corroborated the officer’s accounts. …

Officer Brentley Vinson shot Scott, who later died in the hospital, the AP reports. Vinson, who has been with the department for two years, is on administrative leave while police investigate the shooting — standard department procedure, the wire service says.

Both Vinson and Scott are black.

After the shooting, the woman who says she’s Scott’s daughter streamed live on Facebook for an hour, as Nick de la Canal of member station WFAE reported. Police in Charlotte, N.C., shot and killed a black man they said was armed outside an apartment complex Tuesday, setting off violent protests that continued late into the night and left about two dozen people injured.

A large crowd of demonstrators gathered near the scene of the shooting Tuesday night to protest the killing of Keith Lamont Scott, who was fatally shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer earlier in the day. Scott’s family insisted he was not armed when he was killed.

The demonstrations began peacefully, with some people chanting “black lives matter” and “hands up, don’t shoot.” News reports and posts on social media later showed police in riot gear firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the demonstrators and some people smashing out the windows of police cars.

Early Wednesday morning, protesters shut down traffic on Interstate 85. Some protesters opened up the backs of tractor trailers, took out boxes and set them on fire in the middle of the highway, WSOC reported. The station spoke to one truck driver who said people stole cargo from her trailer. Police reportedly used flash grenades to break up the crowd and had cleared the highway by early morning.

A few dozen other people broke down the doors of a nearby Walmart, then disbursed when police arrived, according to WSOC.

CHARLOTTE, N.C./TULSA,Okla. (Reuters) – Investigators on Wednesday were probing a pair of police shootings of black men in North Carolina and Oklahoma, the latest in a long series of such killings that have stirred protest across the United States. …

Those protests erupted hours after the family of Terence Crutcher, 40, condemned his fatal shooting by a white Tulsa, Oklahoma, police officer. The family disputed a statement by police that Crutcher, who was unarmed, was reaching into his vehicle when he was shot by white police officer Betty Shelby.

Two police videos of the Tulsa shooting that have been broadcast widely since their release on Monday have stoked the debate, with U.S. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton calling the contents “unbearable.” http://www.newsweek.com/police-shootings-probed-north-carolina-oklahoma-501151

It is unclear if there has actually been more police violence this year compared to the past, but we are seeing more protests associated with some police shootings.

As the USA moves further away from biblically-related morality and justice, increased violence is expected.

In the past decade, two major movements for criminal justice reform have arisen: the push against mass incarceration and Black Lives Matter’s mobilization against police brutality. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has attacked both, arguing that the movements would touch off a new crime epidemic.

He’s wrong. …

Of course, the United States still has a terrible problem with violent crime.

Many cities endure rates of violence that undermine our efforts to promote decent and successful community life. Major cities — including Chicago, Milwaukee and Baltimore — reported significant increases in homicide in 2015. Many are having a tough 2016, too. Chicago already has had 500 homicides. The annual toll was 422 only two years ago. …

Whether the protests in Charlotte, etc. will help or hurt Donald Trump’s election prospects in November will be seen later. I do not believe that the politicians (or any of the main parties) have the solution to crime (see Crime can be stopped…here’s how! and/or watch a related sermon: Crime and How it Will be Stopped!).

The USA clearly does have a problem with violence.

Violence, itself, often begets violence.

The Bible teaches:

9 ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Enough, O princes of Israel! Remove violence and plundering, execute justice and righteousness (Ezekiel 45:9)

9…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:9-10)

As far as violence goes, the Bible shows that God is against violence and that destruction will come because of it:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled. (Ezekiel 7:23-24)

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality…30…violent, proud, boasters,…31…unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32)

8…And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it. ( Habakkuk 2:8)

Notice the violence is prophesied to result in the worst of the Gentiles to come and take possession of houses–this will happen to the USA during the Great Tribulation (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).

There will be more violence in the USA.

Even now, it can be said of various cities in the USA, “the city is full of violence.”
