Pope Francis sent a letter to the Methodists as well as the group now called Waldensians:

“May Jesus’ gaze also illumine our relations, so that they are not only formal and correct but fraternal and lively”, says Pope Francis in his letter to the Methodist and Waldensian Churches, on the occasion of the opening of their Synod, underway at Torre Pellice, Turin, from August 20-25, 2017.

“I keep alive in my memory our recent meetings at Turin and Rome, as well as those in Argentina,” the Holy Father wrote. “I am grateful for the beautiful testimonies I have received and for the many faces I cannot forget.

“I hope that these days of sharing and reflection, which are taking place on the 500^th anniversary of the Reformation, are animated by the joy of putting yourselves before the face of Christ; may His gaze, which is turned to us, be the source of our peace, so that we feel ourselves beloved children of the Father and makes us see others, the world and history in new way.” 08/21/17 https://zenit.org/articles/the-holy-fathers-letter-to-the-methodist-and-waldensian-churches/

The letter has obvious ecumenical tones as Pope Francis continues to try to make the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation a time of reconciliation (watch also Pope Francis’ Celebration of Reformation’s 500th Anniversary). His idea to see “the world and history in new way” essentially means his ecumenical and interfaith way.

Just over two years ago, Pope Francis made a public apology for his church’s murderous persecution of the Waldensians centuries ago:

Pope Francis asked forgiveness for the Catholic Church’s persecution of the Waldensian Church, an evangelical movement that began in the 12th century.

Founded by Peter Waldo, a wealthy merchant in Lyons, France who gave up his riches and preached on evangelical poverty as a way towards perfection. The movement, also known as the “The Poor of Lyons”, was declared heretical in 1184 by Pope Lucius III and by Pope Innocent III in 1215.

The evangelical movement is centered in the Piedmont region of Italy.

The pastor of the Waldensian Temple of Turin, Paolo Ribet, welcomed the Holy Father, referring to him as “our brother Francis.”

While reflecting on theme of brotherhood and unity, the Pope said that ecumenism brings together those who believe in Jesus Christ. He also said that “unity, which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit does not mean uniformity.” …

However, differences between faiths have not always been appreciated and instead, seen as a cause for war.

“On the part of the Catholic Church,” he said, “I ask you forgiveness. I ask forgiveness for the non-Christian, even inhuman, attitudes and behaviors that we have shown you in history. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us!”

The Pope went on to express his gratefulness at the good relations that now exist between the Catholic Church and the Waldensian Church, which he said “are more founded upon mutual respect and brotherly love.” …

It is good to ask forgiveness if one has repented. And although Pope Francis seems to believe that the Church of Rome was wrong for its murderous persecution, the Bible shows that the religion associated with the seven hills/mountains (Revelation 17) will do it again to those that will not hold to the Mark of the Beast (see also Persecutions by Church and State).

It should be understood that while the modern group that calls itself the Waldensian church considers Pope Francis a spiritual brother, this most definitely was not the position of the early Waldensians.

As far as Pope Francis goes, he is continuing a theme that was laid out in his latest encyclical titled Laudato Si (see also Laudato Si: Will Pope Francis’ economic actions match his words? and Will the Interfaith Movement Lead to Peace or Sudden Destruction?).

Which is?

Pope Francis is promoting an interfaith and ecumenical movement wherein he states he wants to allow for cultural and other differences. This is similar to what the Church of Rome has sometimes done in the past. For example, in Mexico the “day of the dead” is a big deal as it was part of the pre-Catholic religion/culture there, and it is allowed by the Church of Rome (see All Saints’ Day, the Day of the Dead, and All Souls’ Day). This is also somewhat similar to the compromise Rome made when it adopted the day of the sun-god Mithras’ birthday (December 25th) as a day to claim Jesus was born (see What Does the Catholic Church Teach About Christmas and the Holy Days?).

Getting back to the early Waldensians, some called Waldensians held Church of God doctrines and some called Waldensians did not.

Here is a tongue-in-cheek report from a Catholic about them and Roman Catholicism:

Alberto warns that Catholics are also unaware that the initials on their hosts, IHS, really stand for the Egyptian gods Isis, Hoeb, and Seb. This was the origin of the Catholic practice of the Eucharist, the central act of worship in Roman Catholicism. ..

As this religious system was forming, many Christians realized the real occult nature of the Catholic Church and rejected it. They fled into the hills and took the true copies of the Scriptures with them. When they were caught, they were given the choice to convert or be killed. This is the origin of such groups as the Waldneses and Anabaptists. (Gonzalez D. Steps of Grace. Dog Ear Publishing, 2010, p. 39)

The above is correct, though if you see the entire book it is clear that the author was intending to be sarcastic.

In 1968, the old Worldwide Church of God reported this about the Waldenses:

Most of the French Waldenses had already joined the Italians in the valleys of the Cottian Alps. More than a century of persecution by the Inquisition destroyed or dispersed the remainder. The valleys, overpopulated, sent colonists to Calabria and Apulia, where about 1380 the chief Waldensian leader dwelt. In the mid-13th century they had already adopted the name of Vallenses (“Vaudois” in French) meaning “people of the valleys,” because, as they said, they “dwelt in a vale of tears.” Later they regarded it as equivalent to Waldenses. Forgotten was the connection with Waldo of this name given them by the world. All but forgotten, too, the name “Church of God”!…

The Waldenses recognized that they were the true successors of the apostolic church. They kept the SABBATH, also the yearly PASSOVER. And each September or October (in God’s seventh month — see Lev. 23), they held at the headquarters church a great “conference.” As many as 700 persons attended from afar. New students were chosen, ministerial assignments were made, AND CROWDS GATHERED DAILY TO LISTEN TO SERMONS. What could this gathering have been but the Feast of Tabernacles! Under the name of Passagini, we have the clearest sort of statement that these people, about 1200, observed the whole Old Testament law, including the Sabbath and FESTIVALS! People called Cathars at Cologne, Germany, kept a fall festival, called “Malilosa”, even before Waldo began to preach. Compare this unexplained name with Hebrew “melilah” (a harvested ear of grain — Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance) and the Biblical title “Feast of Ingathering” (Ex. 23:16). How much more we might have known about these Middle Ages’ Feasts of Tabernacles had not the Inquisitors so zealously burned the records! The three-part division of tithes paid the Waldensian Church is significant. Even in the 1500’s the same division continued. “The money given us by the people is carried to the aforesaid general council, and is delivered in the presence of all, and there it is received by the most ancients (the elders), and part thereof is given to those that are wayfaring men, according to their necessities, and part unto the poor” (George Morel, Waldensian elder, quoted by Lennard, “History of the Waldenses”). 1. Compare this practice with Num. 18:21 and Deut. 14:22-25, 28-29. Isn’t it exactly what the Bible commands?… Most authors have ASSUMED the “wayfaring men” were the traveling “barbel.” But THEIR expenses would have been paid from the money given the elders, at EVERY time of year, for the direct conduct of the Work — “first” tithe and offerings. Notice that in Numbers 18:21. What Morel then mentions is a “second” tithe, for those traveling to and from the festivals — wayfaring men; and following it, the “third” to the poor. See the explanation in Deut. 14. Feast goers who had more “second tithe” than they needed shared their excess with those who had need, even as they do today! …

Elsewhere, too, Waldenses were greatly persecuted about 1310-1330, and again about 1375. In the earlier period, one, Echard, martyred many in town after town in Germany. Then, overcome by the truth and himself converted, he began to preach the very gospel he once hated. He too in the end was hunted down and burned. About this time others were martyred, driven into hiding or scattered as far as Hungary and Transylvania by a Bohemian Inquisition. Many disciples of Bohemian teachers were discovered in Saxony and Pomerania about 1390. Waldenses from Picardy fled into Poland. During the century, the SCATTERED groups lost contact with the valleys. Many carnal-minded individuals attended Mass, pretending in every way to be good Catholics while continuing to teach their children what remained of their own doctrine. Cathars in Germany disappeared in this century also. But their tell-tale doctrines reappeared among the late Waldenses, who ceased proper ordination, began to require long periods of probation before baptism, etc. After the Reformation, in every area where such Waldenses had been known previously to exist, numbers of “baptists” suddenly appear. Remember, the original Waldenses before they became corrupted were in no way Protestant. The doctrine of salvation by “faith alone” cannot be found among the original Waldenses. Here is something from a Catholic source:

The Third Lateran Council took place under Pope Alexander III, Frederick I being emperor. There were 302 bishops present. It condemned the Albigenses and Waldenses (The 21 Ecumenical Councils. Source: The Catholic Encyclopedia, http://www.newadvent.org/library/almanac_14388a.htm 02/12/06).

In 1968 the old WCG also wrote:.

The infamous INQUISITION was then set up to complete the job by eliminating religious objections. Papal bull decreed severe punishment against any person suspected of even sympathizing with “heretics.” Confiscations, imprisonments, burnings and every imaginable form of persecution continued for more than a hundred years. Thousands died. In the city of Montsegur alone, 200 persons were burned in one day…

Gregory IX issued another bull against the Waldenses in 1231. From 1231 to 1233 a general persecution raged in Germany, cutting short the Work in Holland. By 1235, persecution on a large scale began at Milan, original seat of the Lombard Waldenses. The archbishop “razed their school” — apparently the College — but LEFT THE PEOPLE FREE! On the French side of the Alps, killing and burning reached the Valley Louise in 1238. The ancient Waldensians wrote about the Church of Rome which is considered the Waldensian Treatise on Antichrist.

“The treatise has indeed been attributed, and not without probability, to the pen of Peter de Bruys” from around 1120 and was reported by a Frenchman named Perrin and has more officially been called A Treatise concerning Antichrist, Purgatory, the Invocation of Saints, and the Sacraments (“A Treatise concerning Antichrist, Purgatory, the Invocation of Saints, and the Sacraments” as shown in Jones, William. The history of the Christian church from the birth of Christ to the xviii. century, Volumes 1-2, 3rd edition. R.W. Pomeroy, 1832. Original from Harvard University, Digitized, Feb 6, 2009 p. 336). Now I doubt that Peter de Bruys wrote it as it contains errors in doctrine and because some of the comments seem to be referring to actions that happened in the 13th and/or 14th centuries (see some items in the paper Persecutions by Church and State). By that time, less and less of the Waldensians held to COG doctrines.

Anyway, here is what was supplied (including some comments from William Jones; and the original punctuation which is not always entirely clear):

“Antichrist is a falsehood, or deceit varnished over with the semblance of truth, and of the righteousness of Christ and his spouse, yet in opposition to the way of truth, righteousness, faith, hope, charity, as well as to moral life. It is not any particular person ordained to any degree, or office, or ministry, but it is a system of falsehood, opposing itself to the truth, covering and adorning itself with a show of beauty and piety, yet very unsuitable to the church of Christ, as by the names, and offices, the Scriptures, and the sacraments, and various other things, may appear. The system of iniquity thus completed with its ministers, great and small, supported by those who are induced to follow it with an evil heart and blind-fold—this is the congregation, which, taken together, comprises what is called Antichrist or Babylon, the fourth beast, the whore, the man of sin, the son of perdition. His ministers are called false prophets, lying teachers, the ministers of darkness, the spirit of error, the apocalyptic whore, the mother of harlots, clouds without water, trees without leaves, twice dead, plucked up by the roots, wandering stars, Balaamites and Egyptians.

“He is termed Antichrist because being disguised under the names of Christ and of his church and faithful members, he oppugns the salvation which Christ wrought out, and which is truly administered in his church—and of which salvation believers participate by faith, hope, and charity. Thus he opposes the truth by the wisdom of this world, by false religion, by counterfeit holiness, by ecclesiastical power, by secular tyranny, and by the riches, honours, dignities, with the pleasures and delicacies of this world. It should therefore be carefully observed, that Antichrist could not come, without a concurrence of all these things, making up a system of hypocrisy and falsehood—these must be, the wise of this world, the religious orders, the pharisees, ministers, and doctors; the secular power, with the people of the world, all mingled together. For although Antichrist was conceived in the times of the apostles, he was then in his infancy, imperfect and unformed, rude, unshapen, and wanting utterance. He then wanted those hypocritical ministers and human ordinances, and the outward show of religious orders which he afterwards obtained. As he was destitute of riches and other endowments necessary to allure to himself ministers for his service, and to enable him to multiply, defend, and protect his adherents, so he also wanted the secular power to force others to forsake the truth and embrace falsehood. But growing up in his members, that is, in his blind and dissembling ministers, and in worldly subjects, he at length arrived at full maturity, when men, whose hearts were set upon this world, blind in the faith, multiplied in the church, and by the union of church and state, got the power of both into their hands.

“Christ never had an enemy like this; so able to pervert the way of truth into falsehood, insomuch that the true church, with her children, is trodden under foot. The worship that belongs alone to God he transfers to Antichrist himself—to the creature, male and female, deceased—to images, carcasses, and relics. The sacrament of the eucharist is converted into an object of adoration, and the worshipping of God alone is prohibited. He robs the Saviour of his merits, and the sufficiency of his grace in justification, regeneration, remission of sins, sanctification, establishment in the faith, and spiritual nourishment; ascribing all these things to his own authority, to a form of words, to his own *works, to the intercession of saints, and to the fire of purgatory. He seduces the people from Christ, drawing off their minds from seeking those blessings in him, by a lively faith in God, in Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit, and teaching his followers to expect them by the *will and pleasure and works of Antichrist.

He teaches to baptize children into the faith, and attributes to this the work of regeneration; thus confounding the work of the Holy Spirit in regeneration, with the external rite of baptism, and on this foundation bestows orders, and indeed grounds all his Christianity. He places all religion and holiness in going to mass, and has mingled together all description of ceremonies, Jewish, Heathen, and Christian; and by means thereof, the people are deprived of spiritual food, seduced from the true religion and the commandments of God, and established in vain and presumptuous hopes. All his works are done to be seen of men, that he may glut himself with insatiable avarice; and hence every thing is set to sale. He allows of open sins, without ecclesiastical censure, and even the impenitent are not excommunicated. He does not govern, nor does he maintain his unity by the Holy Spirit, but by means of the secular power, making use of the same to effect spiritual matters.. He hates, and persecutes, and searches after, and plunders, and destroys the members of Christ. These are some of the principal of the works of Antichrist against the truth, but the whole are past numbering or recording.

Now, apparently the present head of the group calling itself Waldensian has a different view of the Church of Rome than earlier Waldensians did. The truth about the Church of Rome is that it is NOT the true Christian Church of God.

Yet, because of ecumenical compromise, more and more leaders are turning for an improper ‘Babylonian’ relationship with Rome (see Revelation 17)–which the Bible warns against (cf. Revelation 18).

Speaking of compromise, a leading Catholic theologian is concerned about some of Pope Francis’ doctrinal errors and hopes that dealing with them can aid ecumenical unity. The Catholic Herald reported the following:

Leading theologian: change canon law to correct papal errors

Fr Aidan Nichols, a prolific author who has lectured at Oxford and Cambridge as well as the Angelicum in Rome, said that Pope Francis’s exhortation Amoris Laetitia had led to an “extremely grave” situation.

Fr Nichols proposed that, given the Pope’s statements on issues including marriage and the moral law, the Church may need “a procedure for calling to order a pope who teaches error”.

The Dominican theologian said that this procedure might be less “conflictual” if it took place during a future pontificate, rather as Pope Honorius was only condemned for error after he had ceased to occupy the chair of Peter.

Fr Nichols was speaking at the annual conference in Cuddesdon of an ecumenical society, the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius, to a largely non-Catholic audience.

He said the judicial process would “dissuade popes from any tendency to doctrinal waywardness or simple negligence”, and would answer some “ecumenical anxieties” of Anglicans, Orthodox and others who fear that the pope has carte blanche to impose any teaching. “Indeed, it may be that the present crisis of the Roman magisterium is providentially intended to call attention to the limits of primacy in this regard.” … He has not publicly commented on Amoris Laetitia until now, but was a signatory to a leaked letter from 45 priests and theologians to the College of Cardinals. There are Catholic leaders who have issues with the current pontiff. As far as Amoris Laetitia goes, we put together a video against some of its errors (watch Pope Francis’ Tolerance of Immorality is Not Biblical). Pope Francis continues to push his anti-biblical ecumenical and interfaith agenda. Some Catholic leaders oppose parts of it, the Bible warns against it, but the Bible also shows that it will come to pass.

Do not be fooled to become part of it. Be separate.

17 “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6:17).

Several hours ago, I saw the following:

“Terrorism, Terrorism, Terrorism”

The Cato Institute published some data recently showing that the chances of dying in a terror attack are around 1 in 3 million.

Statistically speaking, you have a better chance of being crushed to death by a vending machine.

But we don’t demand that our governments spend hundreds of billions of dollars that taxpayers cannot possibly afford in order to protect us from vending machines.

That’s because deep down we sense that vending machines don’t truly pose a threat. …

Just as we are manipulated into being terrified of certain risks that pose no real statistical threat, we are manipulated into ignoring other risks that are far more likely. …

The Social Security Trustees, including the Treasury Secretary of the United States, state very clearly in their annual report that Social Security’s major trust funds “will be depleted in 2034.”

Yet despite the totally predictable, unavoidable, widespread consequences to Americans’ primary source of retirement income, the public is manipulated into ignoring this threat as well.

Instead of the truth, we continue to hear the same tired mantra– “Social Security is just fine,” despite every shred of objective evidence to the contrary.

We’re also told to believe ridiculous axioms like “the US government’s debt doesn’t matter,” even though they have $20+ trillion of it and spend like drunken sailors.

The USA has massive debt and that will increase if its government feels that this is the way to relieve social tension.

But let’s first consider terrorism, statistically, those in countries like the USA do have a greater chance than 1 in 3,000,000 of dying from terrorism if you look at data over the last 20 years. That being said, statistically it does not SEEM likely. However, statistics look at the past, and do not normally take into account biblical prophecies.

Bible prophecies do predict terror:

5 They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. … 25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:5,25)

12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh. (Ezekiel 21:12)

25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. (Proverbs 1:25-27)

5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).

6 You have forsaken Me,” says the Lord,
“You have gone backward.
Therefore I will stretch out My hand against you and destroy you;
I am weary of relenting!
7 And I will winnow them with a winnowing fan in the gates of the land;
I will bereave them of children;
I will destroy My people,
Since they do not return from their ways.
8 Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas;
I will bring against them,
Against the mother of the young men,
A plunderer at noonday;
I will cause anguish and terror to fall on them suddenly. (Jeremiah 15:6-8)

Jesus predicted a time of “troubles” (Mark 13:8) and that, too, is consistent with terrorism.

Furthermore, there are prophecies in Isaiah that are related to the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies such as the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand:

8 The Lord sent a word against Jacob, And it has fallen on Israel. 9 All the people will know — Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria — … 11 Therefore the Lord shall set up The adversaries of Rezin against him, And spur his enemies on, 12 The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; And they shall devour Israel with an open mouth. (Isaiah 9:8-9, 11-12)

The USA, UK, and Canada have all brought in Syrian refugees. The Bible clearly is prophesying problems from Syrians and Palestinians. And this would be expected to include terrorism.

This combined with prophecies like Psalm 83:3-8 demonstrate (for more details, see Why Terrorism? Is Terrorism Prophesied?) that the risk of death via “terrorism” of various types will be higher for the Anglo-Americans than 1 in 3 million.

That being said, the point of the article at the beginning of this post is that US citizens do not realize the real dangers associated with Social Security. For non-USA readers, Social Security is a government mandated retirement program that has made many promises to so many, that unless the USA economy really revs up, it will not be in a position to fulfill its promised obligations.

Last year I received an email with a link that stated 2016 . . . The Death of Social Security. The link brought me to a video by James Davidson. It was very similar to one that I watched from him in the past, so I stopped watching after a while and decided to look for a written version of it. Instead, I basically found a summary related to it.

Here is some of what it had to say:

As you know, Social Security operates as a classic Ponzi scheme — new contributions are used to pay off earlier contributors.

The problem is twofold: Our government tapped into Social Security savings, and there are not enough new contributors to pay those who already funded the system.

And the problem is worse than any government agency wants to admit.

However, one famous economist, James Dale Davidson, boldly states…

“We could see the end of Social Security as soon as 2016,

and there is nothing President Obama, Congress or

any other government agency can do to stop it.”

Yes, Social Security as we know it could end in 2016.

Before you dismiss Davidson’s warning, know that he has a remarkable track record of calling nearly every major economic shift over the last three decades.

For example, Davidson predicted the stock market collapse of 1999 and 2007, along with the fall of the Soviet Union and Japan’s economic downfall, to name just a few.

And his predictions have been so accurate, he’s been invited to shake hands and counsel the likes of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton — and he’s had the good fortune to befriend and convene with George Bush Sr., Steve Forbes, Donald Trump, Margaret Thatcher, Sir Roger Douglas and even Boris Yeltsin.

So, how can Davidson be so sure that Social Security will end in 2016?

As Davidson explains in a newly released video, “Right now, there are five massive cracks in the American economy’s foundation that are converging for the first time in history. This is a landmark development that I am convinced will trigger the greatest depression we’ve ever seen. Yes, worse than the 1929 Great Depression.”

Davidson’s new video is causing a controversy, not just because of what he says, but because the evidence he provides is irrefutable (he uses over 20 unquestionable charts to prove his point).

“I know that everywhere you turn things look pretty good,” Davidson goes on to say, “The market is near all-time highs, the dollar is strong and real estate is booming again. But remember, the exact same scenario played out in 1999 and 2007. The economy is unraveling right now, and fast. Very fast.”

Davidson warns that a 50% stock market collapse is looming, that “real estate will plummet by 40%, savings accounts will lose 30% and unemployment will triple.” http://thesovereigninvestor.com/exclusives/2016-the-end-of-social-security/

I have done some research into James Davidson’s more recent predictions. What the above fails to mention is that he claimed certain things about a collapse in 2015 that did not happen. And last year, I correctly posted:

James Davidson’s dates have been wrong, but a lot of the data he has referred to is correct. There are real risks.

That being said, I also do not expect Social Security to die this year.

But that does not mean that the USA will be able to continue as it has been.

Financial prophecies show that the massive debts that the USA has will cause problems:

6 “Will not all these take up a proverb against him,
And a taunting riddle against him, and say,
‘Woe to him who increases
What is not his — how long?
And to him who loads himself with many pledges’?
7 Will not your creditors rise up suddenly?
Will they not awaken who oppress you?
And you will become their booty. (Habakkuk 2:6-7)

Now, let’s look at a couple of verses that are ahead of the above prophecy:

2 Then the Lord answered me and said:

“Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

So, we see that this is a prophecy for the appointed time of the end, that it will be so bad that those that read it should run.

Yet, most in the highly indebted nation of the USA do not believe that there is any serious financial catastrophe that will hit it.

That is wrong.

Although some feel that Donald Trump will be able to fix this, since he has referred to himself as “the king of debt,” I do not believe that he understands the debt risk that the USA faces.

Absolute financial destruction will come and we will one day see the end of the USA. Terrorism will be a factor, but the Bible is quite clear that debt accumulation will be a factor that will trigger the destruction of the USA. Its underfunded “Social Security” may well be a factor in its debt getting increased (and actually, it has been already.

North Korea views such exercises as preparations for invasion and has fired missiles and taken other actions to show its anger over military drills in the past.

The USA is vulnerable to electromagnetic issues, either from natural causes or man-made ones. Iran and North Korea, both of whom President Donald Trump has riled up to a degree, allegedly have capability that way.

There are various economic catastrophes including war, famine, and pestilences (Matthew 24:4-8) and troubles (Mark 13:8; Jeremiah 30:7), like debt, that will cause a massive catastrophe in the future. And a man-made downing of the electrical power grid through hacking and/or an EMP event could be one of the coming troubles as I have warned readers for many years.

The USA faces a massive threat from many things that could knock-out its electrical power grid. The USA itself has been developing its own cyber-warfare and EMP technologies, which, of course, also encourages other nations to do so. Plus, the USA is likely to share that technology with Europe.

Jesus taught of a time of “troubles” that would come in Mark 13:

7 But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:7-8)

While most in the USA act like it will go on indefinitely and cannot truly be brought down, the reality is that electrical, weather, pestilence, and other events can devastate the USA. I believe a combination of ‘black swan’ events including terrorism, weather issues, debt problems, and crop failures, which are consistent with Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:4-8, etc. will hit the USA and make it vulnerable to its prophesied takeover (cf. Daniel 11:39).

It is likely that the USA will have to be in a weakened state to be taken over. And while deceit will be a factor (Daniel 8:25; Lamentations 1:1-2), the fact is that the USA will be hit with troubles and sorrows beforehand (Matthew 24:4-8) that will weaken it.

Some type of electrical problem could be a factor. The USA is highly dependent upon electricity and its power grid is at risk.

This is not an impossible risk, like the one from a group who claimed that the solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 would mark the start of the Great Tribulation (watch Will the Great Tribulation Start in 2017?)–this is dangerous (watch Electrical End of the USA?).

According to some, an EMP attack could happen tomorrow. In other words, do not think it will take years for enemy nations to develop this ability–many already have it–and North Korea may attempt to do this.

The first total solar eclipse in 99 years will be an unprecedented test of an American power grid that has become rapidly reliant on solar energy, according to Bloomberg. Power grids, utilities and generators are bracing for more than 12,000 megawatts of solar power to go offline starting around 9 a.m. in Oregon as the moon blocks out the sun across a 70-mile-wide (113-kilometer) corridor.

The eclipse has arrived at a time when the American power grid is becoming increasingly reliant on solar, wind and hydroelectric power.

“This is the first major test of the power grid since America started bringing large amounts of intermittent solar and wind resources onto the system. It comes just as the grid is undergoing an unprecedented transformation whereby flexible resources such as battery storage will complement growing supplies of solar and wind. Solar installations have grown ninefold since 2012 and renewable sources are forecast to supply just as much of America’s electricity demand as natural gas by 2040.”

… Anyone interested in watching the eclipse should use the proper precautions. Experts have warned that looking directly at the sun during the eclipse, while wearing sunglasses. The power grid could have problems, but a solar eclipse is not a massive risk to it.

But the eclipse is expected to permanently damage many people’s vision.

As noted by Karl Denninger at The Market Ticker, while the August 21st solar eclipse may be a once in a lifetime sight to see, the actual act of seeing it may cause serious damage to your eyesight:

Because the eyes do not have pain receptors, if you are looking at the eclipse you will not know that your eyes are literally burning.

There will be no forewarning that you are about to lose your eyesight. And there will be nothing a doctor can do to restore your vision once the damage has been done.

As far as prophecies go, some have falsely claimed that this solar eclipse is or marks the ‘end of the world’ or is an important ‘sign from God’ (watch Solar Eclipse and the Apocalypse).

The latest edition of the Protestant TBN program Christian World News bounced around whether or not this solar eclipse has prophetic ramifications.

It does not.

Mark Biltz, who was one who improperly promoted the ‘blood moons’ a couple of years ago, is also promoting a supposed prophetic significance of this eclipse. He was wrong before and remains wrong again.

Let’s look at the BIBLICAL prophecies related to the sun being darkened in the end times:

²⁹ “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ³⁰ Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. ³¹ And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24:29-31)

¹² I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood.(Revelation 6:12)

Notice that both accounts are of something that takes place AFTER the Great Tribulation (which is the fifth seal in Revelation).

The solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 is simply a natural phenomenon. But can be dangerous. Be cautious and do not look directly at parts of it.

In contrast, Richardson believes the rapture will not occur until during the tribulation period. It should be noted that Revelation 12:1-2 discusses the woman giving birth to Jesus. Later we see the ‘woman’ fleeing to the wilderness–this is not a reference to the constellation Virgo.

The Bible teaches:

2 The LORD says, “Do not start following pagan religious practices. Do not be in awe of signs that occur in the sky even though the nations hold them in awe. 3 For the religion of these people is worthless. They cut down a tree in the forest, and a craftsman makes it into an idol with his tools. 4 He decorates it with overlays of silver and gold. He uses hammer and nails to fasten it together so that it will not fall over. (Jeremiah 10:2-4, NET Bible)

Mark Biltz is once again trying to tell people to be in awe of something that does not have prophetic significance. Do not be like the pagans and read things into astronomical phenomena that people like Mark Biltz are pushing. How he twists scriptures (cf. 2 Peter 3:16) and connects things while overlooking what the Bible teaches reminds me a lot of the late Harold Camping who detailed calculations and predictions were later proven wrong (see Harold Camping’s Teachings About the End of the World Do Not Agree with the Bible).

While the end is coming, the solar eclipse of 2017, like the ‘blood moons’ of 2014 and 2015, is NOT a sign that Jesus gave in Luke 21 or Matthew 24 nor as shown in the Book of Revelation. Watch also: 2017 Solar Eclipse and the Apocalypse.

A solar eclipse is not a sign of the beginning of the great tribulation (see the 6th chapter of Revelation). A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. Casting a shadow does not end the world.

Why report about this? Because there are many false and heretical leaders that lead people astray on prophecy (2 Peter 2:1-2). Scoffers will not believe, but properly understood biblical prophecy will come to pass (2 Peter 3:1-12).

Sometimes false teachers mention the Bible to try to act like God sanctions their nonsense. And it is not just the secular fringe people, but also those who claim to be Christian or even claim to be in the Church of God.

Yet, those of us in the Continuing Church of God “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed” (2 Peter 1:19, KJV).

Why?

Because we believe the Bible over signs that many point to.

Austria’s Kurz: Keep out of Europe’s elections, Erdogan

At only 30 years old, Sebastian Kurz is angling not only to become chancellor of Austria, but also to give his country a more powerful stance on the world stage. To that end, he warned against any “meddling” from Turkey. …

In an interview with Germany’s weekly Welt am Sonntag on Sunday, Kurz outlined his vision for the future should he win the chancellor’s seat in October, including ending the “chaos” of NGOs getting involved in Europe’s migration wave and keeping Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from “meddling” in European elections. …

On Friday, Turkish President Erdogan issued a message to Germany’s considerable Turkish community not to vote for any of the country’s major parties during the country’s federal vote on September 24.

Amidst an escalating row over Turkey’s authoritarian crackdown on opposition voices in the media – which has led to several German nationals being jailed by Ankara – Erdogan said he was “calling on all his countrymen not to make the mistake” of voting for Chancellor Angela Merkel. …

Kurz had a clear warning for Erdogan: Keep out of our elections.

“If Erdogan or his ministers are planning anything similar for Austria’s upcoming vote, I want to make it absolutely clear that we will not accept meddling of any kind.”

So, we see that the Austrian chancellor candidate is warning Turkey, plus does not want Turkey in the EU. Being in the EU is something that Turkey has long wanted. And this desire preceded the current EU. Turkey became an associate member of the old European Economic Community in 1963, joined the old EU Customs Union in 1995 and started accession negotiations with the European Union in 2005. But issues remain.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called Germany’s ruling politicians “enemies of Turkey” who deserve to be rejected by German-Turkish voters.

Germany will hold a general election on 24 September, and about one million ethnic Turks living in Germany can vote. A majority of them backed Mr Erdogan in an April referendum.

“The Christian Democrats [CDU], SPD [Social Democrats], the Green Party are all enemies of Turkey,” he said.

German ministers protested angrily.

These statements by President Erdogan will not endear him to leaders in Germany and obviously are not helping get Turkey accepted into the EU.

Erdogan also accused the Netherlands of state terrorism and having a “rotten” character earlier this week, claiming the Dutch were responsible for the 1995 Srebrenica massacre during the Bosnian War. “We know how rotten their character is from their massacre of 8,000 Bosnians there. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has accused Europe of staring a “clash” between Christianity and Islam with a ruling allowing employers to ban headscarves as part of wider restrictions on religious and political symbols. …

Speaking hours after his foreign minister warned that “holy wars will soon begin”, the Turkish President on March 16 launched a fresh attack as part of an ongoing row over the cancellation of his supporters’ rallies in different European countries.

Erdogan’s strong words come as enmity between North Atlantic Treaty Organization member Turkey and different EU nations has ratcheted up in the past week.

Using terminology alluding to the period of the Crusades, he said the European Court of Justice ruling that upheld the dismissal of two Muslim women who refused to remove their hijabs started a “clash between crescent and cross.”

“Shame on the EU. The idea of bringing up the term “crusade” by President Erdogan will inflame Muslims, including some radical ones who will likely point to that statement as proof that their ‘jihad’ (Islamic ‘holy war’) quest is justified.

President Erdogan is not the only leader in Turkey with some anti-European ideas (bolding below mine):

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a rally in the southern city of Antalya.

“There is no difference between the mindsets of Geert Wilders and social democrats in the Netherlands. They all have the same mindset … That mindset is taking Europe to the cliff. Soon wars of religion may and will start in Europe.”

Turkey on Monday suspended high-level relations with the Netherlands after the Dutch cited public safety in banning its ministers from addressing expatriate Turks. Their votes are being sought in a campaign for a referendum that would give President Tayyip Erdogan sweeping new powers.

Erdogan, who is counting on the overseas Turks in the April 16 vote, has accused the Dutch government of acting like “Nazi remnants”. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu’s statement, “Soon wars of religion may and will start in Europe,” should show all that the roots of armed conflict between Europe and Islam are still strong. The biblical reality is that War is Coming Between Europeans and Arabs. And there will be civil unrest in Europe.

But what will happen with Turkey?

Before going further, let me state that the Protestant prophecy writer Joel Richardson’s view that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may be the final Antichrist of biblical prophecy is in error (see Richardson: Rebirth of the Turkish Caliphate — and why it matters).  Joel Richardson has various misunderstandings of biblical prophecy that I have addressed in the article Can the Final Antichrist be Islamic? as well as in the sermon Is the Final Antichrist Islamic or European? and the sermonette Mystery Babylon USA, Mecca, or Rome? for those who want more information about what the Bible says lies ahead.

As far as Turkey goes, it will, however, support a coming confederation of nations in the Islamically-dominated lands of North Africa and the Middle East. Yet, it will also keep some ties to Europe. The leader of the coming ‘Islamic’ confederation will be AN Antichrist, but biblically carries the title the King of the South (Daniel 11:40):

40 At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. (Daniel 11:40-42).

The above shows that Turkey (Edom) escapes what will happen from the European King of the North.

Notice the following put out decades ago by the old Worldwide Church of God:

King David of ancient Israel, in a prophetic psalm (Psalm 83) provides additional insight into the coming Mideast picture. Germany (Assyria in Bible prophecy) and perhaps the rest of Europe will be in league in the future with a union of Arab nations — a vast confederacy bound together in an effort to crush out the name “Israel” from the face of the earth! This Arab-Moslem confederacy may very well be the previously mentioned “king of the south” of Daniel 11 — a sphere of power encompassing vast portions of the Islamic world. “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom [Esau or modern-day Turkey, a non-Arab but Islamic nation] and the Ishmaelites [Saudi Arabia]; of Moab [part of Jordan] and the Hagarenes [anciently these people dwelt in the land known as Syria today]; Gebal [Lebanon], and Ammon [modern Jordan], and Amalek [part of the Turks]; the Philistines [the modern Palestinian Arabs] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Lebanon]; Assur [whose descendants, the Assyrians, migrated to Germany] also is joined with them: they have holpen [helped] the children of Lot [Jordan and western Iraq]” (Psalms 83:4-8). …

Mideast Invaded

But in the end, this European-Arab alliance will prove short-lived. As shown earlier, the “king of the north” of Daniel 11 — the leader of the German-led European union — will ultimately turn against the Arab “king of the south,” with disastrous consequences for the entire Middle East — both Jew and Arab alike. The entire region will be subjected to armed invasion! Europe’s ire could well be precipitated by a cutoff of vital oil’ supplies by the Arabs. Whatever the provocation, Europe will act swiftly to protect its interests — sending troops into the Middle East!

“Daniel 11:40-41: “And the king of the north shall come against him [the king of the south] like a whirlwind … and he shall enter into the countries…. He shall enter also into the glorious land [Palestine], and many countries [Arab countries of the Middle East] shall be overthrown….” The modern State of Israel will be conquered. Jerusalem will be besieged and taken. The prophet Zechariah also speaks of this capture of Jerusalem, revealing that eventually half the city will be taken into captivity by the European power (14:1-2). In addition, Daniel’s prophecy specifically mentions that Egypt will be conquered by the German-led European forces. …

The Arab-Moslem Confederation will, of course, be thrown into chaotic disarray in the face of invasion. Some of its component countries will be directly occupied by European troops. However, as revealed in Daniel 11:41, Jordan (the present-day descendants of Moab and Ammon) and Turkey (Edom) will escape occupation. Other Arab countries may also avoid full occupation, possibly remaining in some sort of limited alliance with United Europe. “Libya” (or Put, the North African Arabs) along with ” Ethiopia” (or Cush, certain black African nations) shall be “at his [the king of the north’s] steps” — or “following him” as some translations render it. (Stump K. The Arab World in Prophecy. Plain Truth, December 1979, pp. 9-10).

Psalm 83 shows a deal between the Arabs, Turks, and Europeans (called Assyrians in Psalm 83) to destroy end time Israel. Which according to prophecies in Genesis 48, Daniel 11:39, Jeremiah 30:9, Isaiah 10:5-12, includes the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies (see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel and USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses and Germany in Biblical Prophecy).

As far as the King of the South goes, Bible prophecy shows that Turkey will support such a leader, to a degree. Groups like the Muslim Brotherhood want a confederation of Islamic nations similar to one that the Bible prophecies. Although Turkey was the last power to lead a massive Islamic caliphate, it is NOT prophesied to lead the coming King of the South. This will apparently be some type of an Arab, like an Egyptian (cf. Ezekiel 30:2-8).

So, what will happen to Turkey?

Well, expect Turkey to both cooperate with and distance itself from Europe.

When the final King of the South rises up, expect Turkey to look like it will support it.

Yet, the Bible in Daniel 11:25-26 is quite clear that an ally of the King of the South will betray the King of the South:

25 “He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. And the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him. 26 Yes, those who eat of the portion of his delicacies shall destroy him; his army shall be swept away, and many shall fall down slain. (Daniel 11:25-26)

If Daniel 11:25-26 has future fulfillment (and as it seems to parallel Daniel 11:40-43 it looks to), there will be close allies to the King of the South (like Turkey) that will betray it according to scripture.

Recall that the prophecy in Daniel 11:40-43 shows that Turkey (Edom) will escape the wrath of the European King of the North. Let me add that Ezekiel 30:2-12 shows that Egypt and its allies, including Arabs, will be destroyed by the final European/Babylonian leader, which Daniel 11:40 calls the King of the North. But those verses in Ezekiel 30 do NOT mention Turkey getting destroyed at that time (this will happen later to Turkey, see What Should You Know About Turkey in Prophecy). That is consistent then with Turkey ultimately betraying the King of the South and cooperating with the King of the North.

Right now we are seeing Turkey distancing itself from Europe. This is expected as Turkey will, to a degree, later  (temporarily) align itself with the coming King of the South. Yet, Turkey will not completely break ties with Europe (even though many may think that is what is happening). When push really comes to shove, Turkey will betray the King of the South.

The current political rhetoric is mainly getting Turkey in more of a position to temporarily support the coming King of the South.

World events continue to align with properly understood biblical prophecies.

Former US Treasury Secretary David Stockman put out some words of warning:

What is actually going on is a short-lived global credit/growth impulse emanating from China. Beijing panicked early last year and opened up the capital expenditure (CapEx) spigots at the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) out of fear that China’s great machine was heading for stall speed at exactly the wrong time.

The 19th national communist party Congress scheduled for late fall of 2017. This every five year event is the single most important happening in the Red Ponzi. This time the event is slated to be the coronation of Xi Jinping as the second coming of Mao.

Beijing was not about to risk an economy fizzling toward a flat line before the Congress. …

However, you cannot grow an economy indefinitely by building pyramids or any other kind of low-return/no return investment – even if the initial growth spurt lasts for years as China’s had.

Ultimately, the illusion of Keynesian spending gets exposed and the deadweight costs of malinvestments and excess capacity exact a heavy toll.

If the investment boom that was financed with reckless credit expansion is not enough, as was the case in China where debt grew from $1 trillion in 1995 to $35 trillion today, the morning-after toll is especially severe and disruptive.  This used to be called a “depression.”…

China’s propagated spurt in global trade and commodities was artificial and short-term. It was done to flatter China’s rulers at the 19th party congress.

Now that a favorable GDP glide path has been assured, China’s planners and bureaucracy are already back at it trying to find some way to reel in its runaway credit growth and bloated economy before it collapses. …

In sum, during the last 19 months the Rd Ponzi propagated a false upturn in the global economy that is already decisively reversing. Basically, David Stockman is saying that the world is in worse economic shape than it looks, and it looks better than it should because China spent capital to look good for its every 5 year Congress. He indicates that otherwise this would have looked more like a depression. He is also calling what China did a Ponzi scheme (a Ponzi scheme essentially involves bringing in money to make something look better than it really is–eventually Ponzi schemes fail–and fail hard).

Before going further, let me add that US government spending and the Fed’s quantitative easing programs (legal ‘counterfeiting’) have made the US economy look better than it really is–this is another “Ponzi scheme”–and this will not last (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

David Stockman also commented that China has its own credit and other economic problems. David Stockman is correct about that. China is hoping to dominate the world economically as well as to have enough economic growth to quell domestic anxieties. Eventually, this will not work well for China. China hopes that it ‘Silk Road’ project of China will increase its influence in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and even Africa, while also contributing to domestic tranquility. Yet, China has not fully funded that project yet (see Will debt derail China and its ‘One Belt, One Road’ plan?) and is facing some credit issues.

David Stockman also brought up ‘swans.’

What do swans have to do with anything? Years ago, unexpected events of major magnitude were called “black swan” events. Notice also the following:

The black swan theory or theory of black swan events . . . was developed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb to explain:

1. The disproportionate role of high-profile, hard-to-predict, and rare events that are beyond the realm of normal expectations in history, science, finance, and technology
2. The non-computability of the probability of the consequential rare events using scientific methods (owing to the very nature of small probabilities)
3. The psychological biases that make people individually and collectively blind to uncertainty and unaware of the massive role of the rare event in historical affairs (Wikipedia, viewed 12/12/13)

Since then, other “swans” have been mentioned. Gray swans are events that look more likely to possibly happen, they are not considered as unlikely/random as black swan events.

Apparently what might happen to Donald Trump is being considered to be an “orange swan,” which may be the source of odd and significant events.

China is apparently considered to be a “red swan” by David Stockman for reasons like its red Communist flag and that some of what it may be involved in can be speculated in advance.

What does any of this have to do with prophecy?

The Bible tells us that the power that will dominate trade later this century is not China or the USA, but Europe (cf. Revelation 18).

What is going on with China and the Trump Administration may propel Europe’s rise in ways that few will expect.

Boston police are implementing a tight security plan on Saturday as a “free speech” rally with right-wing speakers is expected to converge with a large counter-protest on the city’s historic Common.

“If anything gets out of hand, we will shut it down,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said at a news conference Friday. “We’re going to respect their right to free speech. In return, they must respect our city.”

The deployment of 500 police officers, extra security cameras and barriers separating the opposing rallies are among the steps the city is taking to avoid a repeat of last weekend’s violence in Charlottesville. http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-boston-march-20170819-story.html

In the wake of Charlottesville, all eyes are turning to Boston, which is scheduled to hold a “Free Speech Rally” on Saturday afternoon.

Just one week after the disastrous “Unite the Right” rally in Virginia that left one woman dead and dozens more injured – and just days after Boston’s Holocaust Memorial was smashed to pieces — the City of Boston and Police Commissioner William Evans were preparing for possible confrontations at the “Free Speech Rally,” organized by the Boston Free Speech Coalition.

In order to keep the peace between conservative activists and leftist counter-protesters during a rally that could draw thousands of people to Boston Common, the city is deploying 500 police officers — some in uniform, others undercover, Williams said.

Although rally organizers stressed in a Facebook post that, “We are not associated with any alt-right or white supremacist groups. We are strictly about free speech,” opponents fear the event will turn into another white nationalist protest, especially as members of the Massachusetts Ku Klux Klan are planning to attend, the Boston Herald reported. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/08/19/boston-hopes-to-keep-peace-at-free-speech-rally.html

So, there are concerns that the ‘left’ and the ‘right’ may clash again, this time over what is being called free speech.

In order to try to further protect the rights of the citizens of the USA nation, the Bill of Rights came into effect as Constitutional Amendments on December 15, 1791. Here is the first amendment:

• First amendment — Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

We have seen troubles with people who wish to peaceably assemble. Violent agitators, some of which are professional (meaning that someone pays them to attend and stir up trouble), often attend what is supposed to be a peaceful assembly.

Partially because of that, we have seen many speakers and protests cancelled by US government authorities this year.

As far as free speech and freedom of religion goes, the USA has had real problems with federal courts as they have ruled against religious freedom and have moved further away from freedom of speech. Here are links to a couple of examples: US Federal Judge rules religious freedom law unconstitutional and another US Supreme Court delivers another blow to ‘freedom of religion’.

The State of California has had politicians propose bills to limit freedom of speech. One proposed earlier this year would have allowed the government to essentially shut down websites that did not like certain political statements–which would seem to be something that the First Amendment was specifically supposed to protect (see California considering internet political censorship; Canada again restricts speech).

Today, I saw the following regarding a speech restriction bill:

California has a well-earned its reputation for introducing wacky legislation. …

But a new bill penned by Senator Scott Wiener of San Francisco, dubbed the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Long-Term Care Facility Resident’s Bill of Rights (or SB-219 if you’re into the whole brevity thing), takes wacky California legislation to a whole new level.  Among other things, the bill makes it illegal for employees of any “long-term care facility” to “willfully and repeatedly fail to use a resident’s preferred name or pronouns after being clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns.”

This bill would enact the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Long-Term Care Facility Resident’s Bill of Rights. Among other things, the bill would make it unlawful, except as specified, for any long-term care facility to take specified actions wholly or partially on the basis of a person’s actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status, including, among others, willfully and repeatedly failing to use a resident’s preferred name or pronouns after being clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns, or denying admission to a long-term care facility, transferring or refusing to transfer a resident within a facility or to another facility, or discharging or evicting a resident from a facility.

So what is the punishment for failing to observe someone’s preferred pronouns?  Oh, just a year in prison and a $1,000 fine, according to CBN…

Here is a link to the full text of SB-219 for those who want more official details. This bill is not only a speech restriction, it violates common sense. One’s genitalia determines one’s sex/gender. The English language pronouns were intended to convey that, not some ‘transgender’ preferences. These type of facilities have many employees, and to expect them all to remember inaccurate personal pronouns or face prosecution is absurd.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that there are also more biological differences between males and females than genitalia:

A biological male can take hormones, surgically alter his body and identify as “female,” but the procedures still won’t make him a woman, according to new evidence found by Israeli researchers.

That’s because there are at least 6,500 genes that contain sex-specific instructions for males and females.

For the study by Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, professor Shmuel Pietrokovski and Dr. Moran Gershoni, both researchers from the institute’s Molecular Genetics Department, “looked closely at around 20,000 protein-coding genes, sorting them by sex and searching for differences in expression in each tissue. They eventually identified around 6,500 genes with activity that was biased toward one sex or the other in at least one tissue, adding to the already major biological differences between men and women.” …

The new findings are further evidence that biological males cannot simply “transition” into females and vice versa, argues Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel.

“This recent study from Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science further proves that you cannot fool Mother Nature,” Staver said. “The saying, ‘I think, therefore, I am’ is best left to philosophy and not science. Gender confusion is mental, not physical or biological. God made male and female, and no amount of protestation will change the natural created order.”

Staver called the idea that a person can choose his or her gender “fiction.”

Of course, many ‘moderns’ want to act like there is no difference, but the Bible is clear that men and women are different. God warned that there would be those “who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). But the truth is still the truth.

This proposed California pronoun bill brought the following scriptures to mind:

²⁰ Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
And prudent in their own sight! (Isaiah 5:20-21)

³³ For God is not the author of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33)

It is not good to encourage gender confusion. SB-219 will not really help those who want to be considered as transgender.

Consider also the following scriptures:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, (Romans 1:22)

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, (Romans 1:24-25)

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:26-32)

Notice that Romans 1:32 even says that those who approve sins such as those the LGBTQ crowd promote deserve punishment. Perhaps it should be noted that various government officials in Canada are opposed to people citing/teaching scriptures like those (see Anti-biblical censorship in Canada and Canada celebrates its 150th, but pushes internet and biblical censorship).

As far as freedom of speech about such matters, consider that the Bible teaches:

1 Cry aloud, spare not;
Lift up your voice like a trumpet;
Tell My people their transgression,
And the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)

The LGBTQ agenda is sinful.

The time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), also known as the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21), is coming and the USA and its Anglo-Saxon allies (including Canada) will be affected.

National repentance is the only way to prevent it, and that does not look likely. The advocacy of homosexuality and abortion, and increased indebtedness and acceptance of various forms of pornography (including what would be considered soft pornography involving the current ‘first lady’ of the USA) that we have seen the past few years suggests that national repentance is about the furthest thing on the minds of the national political leaders and most of the mainstream media in the USA.

Personal repentance, however, is still possible. If you are an American, your personal future can still be much brighter than that of your country.

11 “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God,
“That I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread,
Nor a thirst for water,
But of hearing the words of the Lord.
12 They shall wander from sea to sea,
And from north to east;
They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord,
But shall not find it. (Amos 8:11-12)

Notice that the Bible tells of a time that will come when the word of God will not be found. I do not believe that this means that there will be no more Bibles–but that those wanting to better understand it will have trouble finding explanations and there will be governmental restrictions related to teaching what the Bible teaches.

We are seeing more of this now–it will intensify (cf. Revelation 13:16-18).

That is part of why we in the Continuing Church of God are preparing for the ‘short work’ (Romans 9:28) and the coming ‘famine of the word.’

Consider, however, that Jesus said:

4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. (John 9:4)

Philadelphian Christians want to respond to the doors that Christ opens to proclaim the gospel (2 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 16:8-9; Colossians 4:2-4) and do the work. We will stand up for the truth, despite realizing that the ‘famine of the word’ that the prophet Amos referred to is coming. We must do the work and persevere to the end–despite government restrictions and protesters.
