Unrest in Spain: Consistent with a Prediction

Greek Riots, 2008

COGwriter

There have been protests in Spain:

Spain protesters defy ban to remain in Madrid square

BBC News – ‎21 May 2011
Tens of thousands of Spanish protesters have defied a government ban and camped out overnight in a square in the capital, Madrid. The protesters object to the government’s economic policies and have occupied the square for the past week.

I essentially warned about this last year (see 5 September 2010 post titled Civil War in Greece?) as I wrote, “Austerity measures in Europe will likely cause civil unrest”.  As well later in December 2010 when I wrote:

Civil unrest in Europe is expected.  Places such as France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Eastern Europe have potential for this occurrence.

Expanded civil unrest will have major impacts on the euro and on Europe itself. It is highly likely to propel a European leader to rise up. The final leader will be the one known as the Beast (Revelation 13:3-4) and final King of the North (Daniel 11:22-44) of Bible prophecy.

Additionally, in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect, I discussed the possibility of civil unrest and/or civil war breaking out in Europe. Here are a couple of captions from the 2009 book about that:

Some believe that God will punish the nominal Catholics with civil unrest and war in Europe. As there already has been civil unrest in Europe (and according to secular sources, more is expected), it is possible that the following (to some degree) also may come to pass:..

Monk Hilarion (15th century): “The people of the peninsula of Europe will suffer by needless wars…”

Brother Louis Rocco (19th century): “All over Europe there will rage terrible civil wars…A Great Monarch will arise after a period of terrible wars and persecutions in Europe.”

Some believe this civil unrest will result in the rise of a militaristic leader who will quell that particular violence, establish a new religious order, and reign with a pope who will perform miracles…

One interesting 15th century Catholic prophecy foretells a time when a “great prince” will rise up. “All Germany” will apparently convert to the ecumenical religion, and then massive conversions in “all countries” “will happen quickly…

The descriptions of the Great Monarch/Prince in many ways parallel the description of one the Bible refers to as the “prince” in Daniel 9:26–27, final “King of the North” in Daniel 11:27–45…

World events are aligning with prophecy. There will be ups and downs in Europe until the final European beast power rises up. The protests may turn quite violent and this may be a major trigger for the rise of the prophesied final King of the North.

Some articles of possibly related interest may include:

Who is the King of the North? Is there one? Do biblical and Roman Catholic prophecies point to the same leader? Should he be followed? Who will be the King of the North discussed in Daniel 11? Is a nuclear attack prophesied to happen to the English-speaking peoples of the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand? When do the 1335 days, 1290 days, and 1260 days (the time, times, and half a time) of Daniel 12 begin? When does the Bible show that economic collapse will affect the United States?
Europa, the Beast, and Revelation Where did Europe get its name? What might Europe have to do with the Book of Revelation? What about “the Beast”? Is an emerging European power “the daughter of Babylon”? What is ahead for Europe?

Why Were Harold Camping and His Followers Wrong about Jesus Returing May, 21, 2011?

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

Photo in New Orleans by Bart Everson (from Wikipedia)

COGwriter

Well as I have been warning for some time, Harold Camping was wrong and no “rapture” (or “secret rapture”) by Christ occurred.

Here is something from his Family Radio website:

Judgment Day

MAY 21, 2011

THE BIBLE GUARANTEES IT!

The sequence of events listed in the Bible (cf. Matthew 24) guaranteed that May 21, 2011 could not possibly have been that judgment day.  While the promoters of Family Radio claimed that yesterday was the biblically guaranteed “Judgment Day”, it is they themselves who seem to have been judged by the lack of the return of Jesus Christ.

According to Harold Camping and his followers, Jesus was to return yesterday.  Harold Camping also has claimed that the world itself would end on October 21, 2011.  This October date will also be proven to be wrong.

So why was he wrong?

The short answer is that Harold Camping allegorized away too many key scriptures.  In other words, he relied on his own private interpretations and imaginations more than looking at the prophetic sequence that Jesus Himself gave in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21.  It is that simple.  He ignored the fact that required physical events in the Great Tribulation had not happened, nor did the signs in the heavens preceding Jesus’ return occur.  Notice that Harold Camping and His followers ignored Jesus’ words which could not pass away:

3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.  5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many…

15 “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), 16 “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.  17 Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.  18 And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.  19 But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!  20 And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.  21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened…

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.  33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near — at the doors!   34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.  35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (Matthew 24:3-5, 15-22, 29-35)

Many of the events Jesus spoke of are still for the future.  Notice also:

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32)

The truth is that the events Jesus said must happen have not happened and not all of them can for quite some time.

And of course, since he ignored the calendar in the Bible, Harold Camping did not even have the correct date for Pentecost in 2011.  Pentecost will be on June 12th this year, and no, Jesus will not be coming then either.  There are too many biblically-required events that need to happen first and there is not enough time between now and then for them to happen.

Those who want a lot of specifics about why Harold Camping was wrong should study my article Harold Camping’s Teachings About the End of the World Do Not Agree with the Bible as it contains many quotes from Harold Camping and compares them to the Bible. Some realized its accuracy prior to May 21st.

Yet sadly, at least one Camping supporter, without any refuting facts, said that my article had not sufficiently persuaded him that Harold Camping was wrong a few months ago.  Now, hopefully with their blinders off, more of Harold Camping’s supporters will be willing to take a more objective view and see that what I wrote is true, and of course, always had to have been true.

Damage From Harold Camping’s Fallout

It remains my view that because Jesus did not come on May 21, 2011 and the world will not end on October 21, 2011 nor December 21, 2012, scoffers will point to Harold Camping, as well as those who insisted upon the Mayan date, as proof that there have been many who falsely believed to know when the world would end. And while they will be correct about that, they also will tend to discount all prophecy, including biblical prophecy (which is supposedly what Harold Camping claims to base his own allegorical predictions upon).

Notice the following:

Doomsday prophet Harold Camping gives bad name to Christianity, denounced by

International Business Times – ‎ Self-proclaimed Doomsday prophet Harold Camping is nothing more than a charlatan, a fraud who has given a bad name to Christianity, according to Christian leaders.

The iniquity of false prophets such as Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland (who still claims that Jesus will come on May 27, 2012), and others will turn various people off about prophecy. More will feel comfortable being scoffers. And this rise of scoffers who will not believe in prophecy is also foretold in the Bible by the Apostle Peter:

1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation — as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. (2 Peter 3:1-16, NKJV)

So, despite false predictions, Mayan prophecies, scoffers, and the assertions of many, Jesus will return. And we are to look forward to His return as the Apostle Peter wrote. Jesus will return no earlier than 2018 (and likely later) as certain biblically-required steps have not yet happened (Daniel 9:27; cf. Matthew 24:15,21,29-30).

Hopefully, those who followed Harold Camping will not turn away from the Bible, just from him and his false predictions–hopefully, instead they will study it enough to realize why it still is true and why Harold Camping could not have been right.

Those who follow Ronald Weinland of CGPFK may wish to ask themselves how they will feel on May 28, 2012 when Jesus does not return the day before as well (Ronald Weinland, like Harold Camping, also seems to excessively allegorize away prophetic scriptures).

False prophets result in an increase in scoffers, yet despite them, Jesus will return, but not in 2011 or 2012.  Please do not allow false prophets to turn you aside from the prophetic and other truths in the Bible.

Those who are interested in the truth about Harold Camping, Ronald Weinland (who also claims to be one of the two witnesses), Mayan prophecies, and when the Bible shows that Jesus can return, may wish to study the following articles:

Harold Camping’s Teachings About the End of the World Do Not Agree with the Bible Harold Camping teaches that the rapture will be on May 21, 2011 and the world will end on October 21, 2011. What does the Bible show?

Why does the Bible show that Ron Weinland is a false prophet? He also has at least one other view that suggests that he is not part of the Church of God.

Can the great tribulation start before 2012? How might the next pope be involved in 2012?
Who Are The Two Witnesses? What is their job? What does the Bible reveal? What has the Church of God taught on this subject? Might even Roman Catholic prophecies give some clues here?

Presbyterian Move Towards Sodom and Gomorrah

The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

COGwriter

In yesterday’s, TW News & Prophecy E-Zine, the Living Church of God (LCG) reported the following:

Professing Christianity slouches toward Sodom and Gomorrah.

On May 10, 2011, the 2.3 million member Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) voted to allow the ordination of practicing homosexual ministers, removing the requirement that they live in “fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman or chastity in singleness.” (CNN.com, “Presbyterian Church U.S.A. to allow gay and lesbian clergy,” May 10, 2011).This directly contradicts biblical instructions (see Leviticus 18:22). The Apostle Paul also told the Romans that when human beings reject the laws of God governing human sexual behavior, that they will descend into all sorts of sexual perversions with men burning in lustful passions towards other men and women towards women, and as a result, “receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” (Romans 1:18-29). Some of the “penalties” Paul wrote about involve emotional damage and physical diseases such as increased risks of cancers, STDs and HIV/AIDS in those who practice homosexuality (BBCNews.com, May 9, 2011, “Gay men report higher cancer rate than straight men”).

The Bible states that those who keep God’s commandments will inherit eternal life, but those who break the commandments of God will reap serious consequences (Revelation 22:14-15).

Various Protestant groups have become increasingly accepting of homosexuality.

And others have been influenced so much by it that in the USA, it appears that most now accept the odd concept of “gay marriage”:

Majority backs gay marriage

New York Post – Carl Campanile – 21 May 2011
In a dramatic shift, a majority of Americans now back gay marriage, a new Gallup Poll found. Gallup’s pollsters found that 53 percent of US residents back legalizing gay marriage, while 45 percent are opposed.

Apparently, Americans, like certain Protestant leaders, are overlooking scripture.

Between three thousand and four thousand years ago, notice what happened:

24 Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens. 25 So He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. (Genesis 19:24-25)

And why did it happen?

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. (Jude 7)

Why mention this in the 21st century? Because God turned:

6…the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly (2 Peter 2:6,
NKJV)

Thus, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah were to serve as an example to those who would live as they did.

Of course, not everyone in Sodom and Gomorrah were homosexuals as those that strictly practice that could not reproduce. Yet, notice that the destruction that hit their cities destroyed all that were there and notice that something like this is to happen again according to Jesus:

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:26-29)

The USA and UK can pretend that increasing “homosexual rights” poses no risk, but the Bible suggests otherwise.

Homosexual acts are clearly prohibited in the Bible:

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. (Leviticus 20:13)

The following passage, written nearly two thousand years ago, essentially predicts resurgences of homosexuality and explains the history behind why homosexuality develops:

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man — and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:18-32)

Many of those in the top governmental and theological positions in the USA and UK do not wish to retain the word of God in their knowledge. Also notice that God warned that many would “also approve of those who practice” various forms of sin.

The Apostle Paul shows that even if someone had been homosexual, they could come to Christ and be washed and changed:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

While certain “gay groups” act like people cannot change, the Bible takes a very different view–a view that should be Protestant leaders.

Keeping the Ten Commandments reflects love. Breaking them and/or condoning those that do is evil. This should be clear to those who believe the God of the Bible, as should be the coming destruction of the USA and UK. While homosexuals are people, and we are to love all people, Christians are not suppose to promote lifestyles that go against biblical morality. Religious leaders, especially in the USA and UK, should know that.

Jordan’s King Believes USA Can Cause Middle East Peace Deal

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Jerusalem

COGwriter

The King of Jordan indicates that he believes that the USA can get a peace deal:

Jordan’s king: Palestinian-Israeli peace will succeed with US help

Washington Post – ‎21 May 2011
By AP, AMMAN, Jordan – Days after White House talks with President Barack Obama, Jordan’s king says that Palestinian-Israeli “peace will succeed” with America’s help.

Yet, notice the following from yesterday:

Netanyaho Rejects Borders

Yankton Daily Press – Ben Feller – ‎13 hours ago‎

AP White House Correspondent WASHINGTON — In a blunt display of differences, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the idea of using his country’s 1967 boundaries as the basis for a neighboring Palestinian state on Friday, declaring his objections face-to-face to President Barack Obama who had raised the idea just 24 hours earlier in an effort to revive stalled Mideast peace talks.

So, apparently the King of Jordan believes that the USA can pressure Israel despite the fact that Israeli President Netanyahu was strongly opposed to the “peace” proposal that the US President Barack Obama made.  Yet, the King of Jordan is likely right that ultimately the USA will help get such a deal (although biblically, it only requires a European leader, until the USA is gone it is likely to be an important player in this).

I believe that the USA, by treating Israel the way it has for the past couple of years, is likely to receive cursings, instead of blessings, from God.  And while the USA (and other countries) have other sins that can (and will) provoke this, it seems strange that the USA would be pressuring the USA the way the USA President did on Thursday.

Of course, as regular readers of this page are aware, the Bible tells of a time where a seven year peace deal is made, but that gets broken in the middle (Daniel 9:27) and that related events begin the Great Tribulation.  And while that deal will ultimately happen, shortly after it gets broken, the end of the USA will also happen (Daniel 11:39; Jeremiah 30:7).  Watch (Mark 13).

Events in the world line up to bring many biblical prophecies to pass.

Fasting

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Dr. Meredith and I

COGwriter

A reader recently asked me for more information about fasting.  The Presiding Evangelist of the Living Church of God wrote an article on that some time ago, and here is part of what it says:

But by Prayer and Fasting

These are trying times. Make no mistake about it; we need God’s help and His direct intervention— now.

For times such as these, the Apostle Paul instructs us to “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:10–12).

That is exactly what we are fighting. A higher power—Satan the devil—is our real antagonist. It is time we all recognize that.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (v. 13). We need that armor of God.

We need spiritual help in resisting ourselves, in overcoming the world (which strikes us from many different directions)
and in resisting and overcoming Satan the devil, who is also striking at us in remarkable and unusual ways he has never used against us before.

A Means to Spiritual Help

Scripture tells us what our Savior did to acquire spiritual strength, in connection with the devil’s attack on Him: “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted [or tried] by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry” (Matthew 4:1–2). Notice—He fasted!

Moses, who was a “type” of Jesus, took neither bread or water when he fasted (Deuteronomy 9:9, 18). In like manner, the Son of God fasted to humble Himself, to be close to God spiritually, lest He forget how weak He was in the flesh.

“Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, ‘If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread’” (Matthew 4:3). Imagine how hungry Jesus was after 40 days and nights of total fasting! The very cells of His body were crying out in a type of hunger that you and I have never experienced. But still He kept His wits, fasting for the right reason and in the right way, through prayer and meditation. In doing so, He was close in spirit to the invisible God. Responding to the devil, He answered and said: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God’” (v. 4 ). That is what you and I need to learn to live by, more and more as these days continue, before the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The devil had to leave Christ alone because of the spiritual strength He expressed even in His physical weakness. We, too, can live by the same strength Jesus had.

But Should Christians Fast?

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught His disciples to give generously from the heart, and to pray to God continually. Notice that He said, “Moreover, when you fast…” (Matthew 6:16). He did not say “if” you fast; He took it for granted that His disciples would fast. Christ said, “when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance.

For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward” (ibid.) In other words, their reward is whatever praise they receive from other people for showing off their fasting. He continued: “But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly” (vv. 17–18). Truly, God Almighty will do that for those of us who come before Him in fasting, as Jesus Christ said we should. Later, the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and asked, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” (Matthew 9:14). Jesus explained that as long as He was with them, it was like a wedding— a time to rejoice. “But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast” (v. 15). Although it was not yet fitting for His disciples to fast, as He explained in the next couple of verses, they would fast when their time came, yet they would do it for different reasons and in a whole new situation, with a whole new attitude and a whole new approach to God.

We Christians are not to punish ourselves, thinking that this will force God to hear our prayers. God is not interested in penance. That is just as if you or I would take whips and beat each other’s backs, saying, “Look at our suffering, God, so hear us.” The idea behind our fasting is quite different from that. We seek the invisible God. We fast to humble ourselves—to make ourselves realize how weak we are, and that we are little children, saying, in effect: “Father, we are up against a great army, and there are great forces around us. We don’t always know what we should do, and we need your help. We need guidance. And we need deliverance. We recognize that we are merely flesh that is slowly decaying toward death, and so we are fasting. You are our God. You are our banner. You are our shield. You are our refuge. You are our high tower. You’re our champion. You’re our deliverer. We are your little children. Please help us draw near to You.”(Click the following to go to the entire article: Spiritual Benefits of Fasting)

LCG: No Rapture on May 21, 2011

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Harold Egbert Camping

COGwriter

According to Harold Camping, Jesus will return today.  We in LCG disagree.  And here is part of today’s commentary on that:

By James Ginn | Saturday, May 21, 2011
Radio stations, billboards, RVs, and circulars have recently been flooding the public with predictions of Judgment Day and the end of the world occurring in 2011. These messages claim the Bible has foreordained May 21 as Judgment Day and the time of the “Rapture”–with the end of the world supposedly coming on October 21. The organizations behind these messages emphatically state that there is no possibility they may be wrong. In fact, they guarantee these claims. But are they true? Should we panic? Absolutely not! Here is proof of why these claims are false and should be ignored….

Do not panic! While May 21, 2011 may or may not bring major news events, one fact is certain: May 21 is not the Judgment Day, nor will it bring a “rapture.” Do not be carried away by anyone who says to you, “’Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it” (Matthew 24:23). Many prophetic milestones that must occur before Christ’s return simply have not yet occurred (Luke 21:31). Though God certainly does tell of a future return of Christ and a judgment on the earth, Scripture definitively reveals that this absolutely will not occur on May 21, 2011.

Jesus will not return on May 21, 2011 (and actually, since Harold Camping said it would be 6:00pm in the local time zones, and it is long past that in Australia, now, he has already been proven wrong). There simply have not been enough fulfillment of the required prophecies that Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 for this date to have been possible. Notice, for one example, that Jesus returns after the tribulation and various heavenly signs:

29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24:29-31)

24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. (Mark 13:24-27)

25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:25-28)

Despite Harold Camping’s writings indicating that the Great Tribulation began in 1988, it has not began yet (see also Can the Great Tribulation Begin in 2011, 2012, or 2013? ). Furthermore, the heavenly signs that Jesus claimed would precede His return simply have not happened. All who believe that Jesus will return on May 21, 2011 need to notice that those “signs of the times” (cf. Matthew 16:3) have not yet manifested themselves and Jesus is not coming in two weeks.

Harold Camping’s date is causing some people to denounce prophecy:

Rapture talk creating a buzz, but critics say it’s all about the money

Detroit Free Press – ‎21 May 2011
Participants in a movement saying today will be Judgment Day gather May 13 in New York City. If the prediction duds out, some people have decided the Mayan calendar calls for some kind of doom on Dec. 21, 2012…
Some critics say setting dates — there have been many throughout history — actually harms Christianity because false predictions buttress the nonbelievers. This week’s frenzy, they say, is less about faith and more about pop culture and money.

The iniquity of false prophets such as Harold Camping and others (like some with the Mayan 2012 date) has and will turn various people off about prophecy (Ronald Weinland also comes to mind).

Jesus will return no earlier than 2018 (and probably later) as certain biblically-required steps have not yet happened (Daniel 9:27; cf. Matthew 24:15,21,29-30).

LCG on Changes in Europe

12 Star Flag of Europe
EU Flag

COGwriter

In today’s, TW News & Prophecy E-Zine, the Living Church of God (LCG) reported the following two items about changes in Europe:

Winds of change continue blowing in Europe.

The last couple of weeks have been filled with anticipation and action across Europe. The Finnish parliament voted for a new prime minister, EU finance ministers approved a bailout package, EU leaders discussed the Greek debt situation–Greece is expected to need another bailout in the future–and the International Monetary Fund’s former head–until recently, a likely candidate for the French presidency–Dominique Strauss-Kahn, is now embroiled in a sex scandal.Next week, “Spain will hold regional and municipal elections. Polls also forecast a heavy defeat for the ruling Socialists throughout Spain”-which could lead to early elections. This could further destabilize a nation that many believe may be the next to request an economic bailout (Stratfor.com, May 9, 2011).

Meanwhile, critics suggest Germany may be becoming ambivalent with its foreign policy (The Economist, May 12, 2011).

As the “iron and clay” mixture of European nations continues to solidify and then crack, students of Bible prophecy are reminded that God foretold these events long ago through Daniel (Daniel 2:33, 41-43). God also revealed that eventually “ten kings” will be of “one mind,” for a time, and give their power over to a central Beast power–an entity that will play a dominant role on the world stage for a short time and make war with the returning Christ (Revelation 17:12-14).

Rest assured that there is a God in heaven who will bring to pass what He has prophesied long ago!

EU debt crisis and the consolidation of power? A recent article in The Times (of London) read: “The bailouts don’t work but they do allow the EU to build up centralized power at the expense of nation states.” The author continued, “The political motivation for tightening the debt yoke on Greece, Ireland and Portugal is even clearer. By turning these countries into permanent debtors to the ECB [European Central Bank] and the various EU bailout funds, Brussels and Frankfurt are enormously increasing the power of centralized European institutions at the expense of nation states” (May 11, 2011).In a recent speech at Humboldt University in Berlin, Michel Barnier reiterated the need for a European president. He noted that for the EU to remain viable on the world scene in the years to come, European nations must also work to “combat nationalism” (EUobserver.com, May 11, 2011).

Winston Churchill was right–“there IS a purpose being worked out here below.” God promised in regard to Daniel’s dream about the great image depicting world-ruling empires that would appear, “The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure” (Daniel 2:45). A great Beast power will arise in Europe, and ten nations or “kingdoms” will give their power (surrender their sovereignty) to it at some point in the future (see Revelation 17).

The events now taking place throughout Europe are all for a purpose. They will eventually lead to the creation of the Beast power prophesied to arise in Europe. For more information on this fascinating topic, please review our free booklet, The Beast of Revelation.

EU politicians and institutions are intent on making a real empire.  Just like some American politicians, they do not wish to “waste a crisis”.   Instead, they are moving forward to fulfill biblical prophecy.  The “beast-power” is being formed in the 21st century–the final King of the North will soon rise up and be revealed.

Is Russia the King of the North? Some claim it is. But what does the Bible teach?
Europa, the Beast, and Revelation
Where did Europe get its name? What might Europe have to do with the Book of Revelation? What about “the Beast”? Is an emerging European power “the daughter of Babylon”? What is ahead for Europe?
Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel Are the Americans, Canadians, British, Scottish, Welsh, Australians, Anglo-Southern Africans, and New Zealanders descendants of Joseph? Where are the lost ten-tribes of Israel? Who are the lost tribes of Israel? Will God punish the U.S.A., Canada, United Kingdom, and other Anglo nations? Why might God allow them to be punished first?
Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves? Will the lands of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand be divided? What about Jerusalem? What does Bible prophecy teach? Are there non-biblical prophecies that support this idea? Who will divide those lands? Who will end up with the lands and the people?

Journal Out: CGI, GCI, UCG, & Unitarianism

Friday, May 20th, 2011

COGwriter

The latest issue (print date May 31, 2011) of The Journal just came out.

The biggest items related to UCG crisis matters (some of which have been covered here), CGI governance,  that GCI (formerly WCG) now will baptize infants (Baptism and the Early Church), and a unitarian conference.  I have always felt that The Journal gives much too much coverage to the unitarians (Was Unitarianism the Teaching of the Bible or Early Church?) who once were part of the old WCG.

It also mentions a reunion in Big Sandy, as well as the usual letters to the editor and other opinions.

While The Journal is available only by paid subscription (though some subscriptions are free to those who cannot afford it), you can view the PDF version of the first and last page of The Journal at: www.thejournal.org/issues/issue144/jf053111.pdf

This will give some of the flavor and details of The Journal’s coverage of the current UCG crisis and other matters.

Here are some articles on the Godhead and one on baptism:
Binitarian View: One God, Two Beings Before the Beginning Is binitarianism the correct position? What about unitarianism or trinitarianism?
Is The Father God? What is the view of the Bible? What was the view of the early church?
Jesus is God, But Was Made Man Was Jesus fully human and fully God or what?
Virgin Birth: Does the Bible Teach It? What does the Bible teach? What is claimed in The Da Vinci Code?
Did Early Christians Think the Holy Spirit Was A Separate Person in a Trinity? Or did they have a different view?
What is the Holy Spirit? An article by Rod Reynolds that was published in the Living Church News.
Did the True Church Ever Teach a Trinity? Most act like this is so, but is it?
Was Unitarianism the Teaching of the Bible or Early Church? Many, including Jehovah’s Witnesses, claim it was, but was it?
Binitarianism: One God, Two Beings Before the Beginning This is a shorter article than the Binitarian View article, but has a little more information on binitarianism.
Baptism and the Early Church Was it by immersion? Did it include infants?

Herbert W. Armstrong on When the Work Was to End

Order of the Sacred Treasure

COGwriter

Last month, a new anti-gospel small COG group sent me an email and a link to its website.  It, like many small groups, claims to be highly faithful but insists that Hebert W. Armstrong fulfilled Matthew 24:14 and that the top priority for the Philadelphia portion of the Church of God should NOT be public proclamation of the gospel.  While various small groups like to point out that Herbert Armstrong claimed to fulfill Matthew 24:14 in Mystery of the Ages (MOA), they fail to realize that he never taught that it was “completely fulfilled” as one group just claimed or that no one after him should try to fulfill it.

If this particular MOA quote (which was published mid-1985, but written before the June 24, 1985 quote above) meant that Herbert Armstrong felt the preaching work was finished, one would expect that he would have gone off all television and radio stations then. Instead, he remained on them until he died in 1986.  In his last letter, all arguments about the work being over were rebutted:

It may be that the Work that God has given me to do is complete, but not the Work of God’s Church, which will be faithfully doing God’s Work till Christ, the True Head of this Church, returns…Remember brethren, this is not the work of Herbert W. Armstrong…The greatest work lies ahead…Never before in the history of the Church has it been possible to reap so great a harvest. It has only been made possible through modern technology, beginning with the printing press, radio, television...Each of you must commit yourself to support God’s Work…God’s work must push ahead as never before. God is opening up new doors in television (Letter, 1/10/86).

And to be sure that this portion of the work would continue after he died, Herbert Armstrong insured that there were other men designated to continue to make television programs after his death. One of those men was evangelist Richard Ames, who remains faithful to this mission to this day, as he is still making television programs to proclaim the Gospel! Another evangelist who was preaching the Gospel in the French language over radio while Herbert Armstrong was alive, Dibar Apartian, continues to preach it until he died in December 2010. When I once asked him if Hebert  Armstrong told him to stop doing this in the event of his death, Dibar Apartian responded, “To the contrary, he told me he wanted me to go on more stations”.

This concept is confirmed by Herbert Armstrong in his third to last letter,

I thank God that he has organized this present work of his so thoroughly that regardless of the outcome of my present illness, the work will continue right on to the Second Coming of Christ (Letter dated 12/23/85).

Thus it seems clear that Herbert Armstrong felt that he was the leader of the Philadelphia era, but that if he died prior to the time of the end, that he considered that the Church should continue to preach the gospel to the world!

Yet, not only do many groups overlook some of HWA’s other writings on gospel proclamation, they simply do not understand Matthew 24:14:

14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

Since the end has not come, the above verse has NOT be COMPLETELY fulfilled, as it is tied into the abomination that happens in Matthew 24:15, etc.

The end spoken of above seems to be 75 days prior to the start of the Great Tribulation based what Jesus discusses in the verses that follow (15-21) as well as upon HWA’s other writings related to his understanding of what Daniel 11 & 12 seem to teach.  Here is what Herbert Armstrong taught about that:

And the abomination that maketh desolate set up.” What is this abomination? This refers to Daniel 11:31 and Matthew 24:15…From this time (Daniel 12:11) to Christ’s coming will be 1290 days. Now, verse 12, “Blessed is he that waiteth, and comes to the 1335 days.” Never before have we understood these periods of 1260, 1290. and 1335 days. But it seems evident, now, a blessing is pronounced on us–GOD”S CHURCH–who wait and endure until the 1335 days–approximately 1335 days prior to Christ’s coming. But since no one can know the day or hour of His coming, we probably shall not be able to know the exact day this 1335 days begins. But apparently that is the time when OUR WORK SHALL END. That will be a time when the UNITED Europe shall appear–the revival of the medieval “Holy Roman Empire.” (Armstrong HW. Personal. Good News magazine January 1980).

(See also Who is the King of the North?).  And since we are not there yet, and we certainly were not there in June of 1985, the gospel still needs to be proclaimed.

Another problem with some who have taken some of Herbert Armstrong’s quotes out of context, is that while it is true Herbert Armstrong seemed to feel that he personally succeeded in preaching the gospel of the kingdom to all the world as a witness, it is not true that he felt the true Church should stop placing its top priority on proclaiming. For example, in what appears to be the second to the last letter from Herbert Armstrong, he wrote,

It is now true that this Gospel has been proclaimed within every nation on earth by the Worldwide Church of God (Letter 1/86).

He then listed that 90 million booklets, magazines, articles, and correspondence course lessons had been sent out in 1985 (and never mentioned the Worldwide News which was for members only). Instead of suggesting that the publishing portion of the work was over, he wrote (in the same letter),

Now let’s keep it up in 1986! (Letter 1/86).

Therefore, all of the last three letters sent out by Herbert Armstrong stated that the work of publicly proclaiming the Gospel was to continue even though it had been proclaimed within every nation. Why would God have all of them preserved if He did not want those who were faithful to keep up the work?

Under Herbert W. Armstrong, It Was Always Taught that the Door Was Opened Until the Philadelphians Go to a Place of Safety!

Many once in WCG simply never understood what was taught about the open door:

Philadelphia has little strength to do this great work that God has given it to do. God has opened the door, and yet look how insignificant, how weak, how little strength we as a Church have to do that work…Revelation 3:7-13: “And to the angel of the Church in Philadelphia write these things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that OPENETH, and no man SHUTTETH; and SHUTTETH and no man openeth.” The great door that God has opened to this work is the facility to go into all the world and preach the gospel; the door of radio, the door of the printing press, plus many other such doors. God has set before us an open door and no MAN can shut it. God can shut it, and He will when the work is finished and the Philadelphia Church goes to a place of safety. …The Laodicean Church is not going to he worthy to escape to a place of safety. When it is too late, they will find that the Church of Philadelphia has gone to safety (What Is the “LAODICEAN CHURCH”? Good News August 1959 Vol. VIII, Number 8).

Notice what Herbert Armstrong taught:

Our work in the hands of Christ is NOT YET FINISHED, and He will not allow the Work to stop until it is finished. And when will that be?

since no one can know the day or the hour of His coming, we probably shall not be able to know the exact day that this 1335 days begins. But apparently that is the time when OUR WORK SHALL END. That will be a time when the UNITED EUROPE shall appear –the revival of the medieval “Holy Roman Empire.” We shall then be warned, and readied to be taken to a place of refuge and safety from the Great Tribulation. Forty-five days later “the beast’s” armies will surround Jerusalem. Thirty days later the Great Tribulation will probably start with a nuclear attack on London and Britain–and possibly the same day or immediately after, on United States and Canadian cities (Armstrong HW. The Time We Are In, Now. PASTOR GENERAL’S REPORT – VOL.1, NO.15 NOVEMBER 20, 1979).

Next, when our Great Commission is in God’s sight completed, we are to be taken–symbolically flown on the two wings of a great eagle–we shall be taken to a place of protection from the Great Tribulation (Armstrong HW. Looking…PASTOR GENERAL’S REPORT – VOL.3, NO.4 January 23, 1981).

Notice what Herbert W. Armstrong specifically taught about preaching the gospel, when that work ends, and preparing the church:

When this European empire is perfected, the great Work God is doing through this Church will be quickly completed–finished…

The sign He gave was that which He is doing through us–proclaiming for the first time in 1900 years to the world the Gospel of the KINGDOM OF GOD (Matthew 24:14).

But next, after our work, is to come the GREAT TRIBULATION (verses 21-22. That shall be ended, verse 29, by supernatural, frightful signs in the sun, moon, and stars; signaling the “day of the Lord”–see also Joel 2:31). Then quickly; the coming of Christ. See also Daniel 12:1.

Events now occurring SWIFTLY in the world are SIGNS of the imminency of the Great Tribulation. No one will be allowed to proclaim Christ’s Gospel then. The “Philadelphia era” or succession of God’s Church will be taken on the “two wings of a great eagle”–whatever that symbolizes–to a place of protection where we are to be “fed”–provided for. We need now to begin to be ALERT, for this “flight” may happen suddenly. DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY THE NEGATIVE SNEERING OF EXCOMMUNICATED MINISTERS: Both Revelation 12:13 and 3:10 warn us.

We, ourselves, are a sign (Matt. 24:14) of the very imminency of these things!

I say again and again, it is later than we think.

Fellow Ministers, God has made it our job to PREPARE His Church–that we may be “without spot or wrinkle…holy and withouth blemish” WHEN Christ comes!

This means renewed dedication, more constant and intensive earnest prayer, “soul-searching,” and determined preparation. This is a serious responsibility for all of us! (Armstrong HW. Great Significance of Summit Conference. Pastor General’s Report, Vol. 2, No. 26, June 27, 1980).

Notice that although Herbert W. Armstrong felt that the ministry had to prepare the church, the gospel still needed to preached until the European empire was perfected, and we flee to a place of safety. The European empire has not been perfected yet, nor have the Philadelphians fled to a place of safety, therefore, the gospel still must be preached.

What many people who are against public proclamation to the world to fulfill Matthew 24:14 do not seem to understand is that Jesus did not condemn the work of the Philadelphia portion of the Church of God (which HWA was used by God to begin), Jesus condemned the Laodiceans of Revelation 3 for having a different, less effective work.  And it is Jesus’ standard that we all need to follow.

Part of Herbert W. Armstrong’s legacy is that he took the Bible to be the word of God and taught:

…the Bible tells us to PROVE all things (Armstrong HW. The RESURRECTION was NOT on Sunday. 1952).

Which of course, it does as the Apostle Paul wrote:

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV).

There is no verse in the Holy Bible that hints that the Philadelphians are intentionally to stop proclaiming the gospel.  Since Herbert W. Armstrong’s death, only relatively few seemed to really understand his work and what he felt Christ expected of the church.

Herbert W. Armstrong clearly taught that the work of gospel proclamation to the world as a witness would not end until near the time the Philadelphia-portion of the Church had to flee.  And while this could happen in a few years in the future, it has not happened yet.  Those who claim to be faithful to the teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong and the Bible would continue to put a high priority on public proclamation.

Those truly interested in learning more about Herbert W. Armstrong, should read the article Who Was Herbert W. Armstrong? How is He Viewed Today?.

And everyone should try to live by the following teaching of Herbert W. Armstrong:

Don’t believe me BELIEVE YOUR BIBLE BELIEVE GOD! I always say…check up! Listen without prejudice, with open mind, then check up–go to your BIBLE, and BELIEVE what you read there.

(Herbert W. Armstrong, Plain Truth magazine, Sept. 1963, Personal pg.1)

Is There a King of the West?

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

COGwriter

Students of Bible prophecy are aware that the the Bible talks about end-time kings of the North (Daniel 11:40), South (Daniel 11:40), and East (Revelation 16:12). Yet, Bible prophecy students are aware that the Bible does not mention an end-time “king of the west” by name.

The “United States” is “the leader of the west” (Cox RW. A Canadian Dilemma: The United States or the World. International Journal. Vol. 60, No. 3, Summer, 2005, pp. 667-684. http://www.jstor.org/pss/40204055 viewed 05/03/11).

Although the terms United States of America and Great Britain are not specifically mentioned in the Bible, Bible prophecy does foretell of the blessings that the descendants of Jacob would have.

Notice these prophecies for the latter days by Jacob:

1 And Jacob called his sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:

2 “Gather together and hear, you sons of Jacob, And listen to Israel your father…

22 “Joseph is a fruitful bough, A fruitful bough by a well; His branches run over the wall.
23 The archers have bitterly grieved him, Shot at him and hated him.
24 But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong
By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),
25 By the God of your father who will help you, And by the Almighty who will bless you
With blessings of heaven above, Blessings of the deep that lies beneath, Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.
26 The blessings of your father Have excelled the blessings of my ancestors, Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.
They shall be on the head of Joseph, And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers (Genesis 49:1-2,22-26).

It is only the United States and the groups of English nations now composed of the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand who have historically fulfilled these prophecies given to Abraham and his descendants (and they are separated from their “brothers” on continental Europe). In these latter days they have been prosperous, though they are now in a period of decline.

Though not obvious to all, there are several end-time prophecies in the Bible that seem to be referring to the USA and its Anglo-allies.

Let’s review a few of them, along with a few from outside the Bible.

One is Daniel 11:29-30, yet few would tend to think of this because of how one word is normally translated. The Bible shows at “the appointed time” which is very near the end, something will trigger the King of the North (the “he” below) to go towards the south:

29 At the appointed time he shall return and go toward the south; but it shall not be like the former or the latter. 30 For ships from Cyprus shall come against him; therefore he shall be grieved, and return in rage against the holy covenant, and do damage. So he shall return and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant (Daniel 11:29-30).

The Hebrew term translated as “Cyprus” in the NKJV is somewhat of a mistranslation. The KJV uses the term Chittim (which is also spelled Kittim) which signifies “western lands” (see The Nelson Study Bible, page 1441 and The Ryrie Study Bible, page 1359). Hence, the BIble shows that the King of the North will apparently be temporarily stopped by a Western naval power.

For several reasons, this Western naval power seems to be the United States.

  1. The United States is west of Jerusalem.
  2. The United States is a major naval power.
  3. Although Latin America is also west of Jerusalem, it (even when all the nations that compose it are combined) would not seem to have enough of a naval force to stop the European king’s approach (plus, since Latin America shares culture, languages, and religion with Europe, it will most likely be allied with the King of the North either at this time or shortly thereafter).
  4. The Bible shows that the problems from the kings that are north and east of the King of the North do not occur until verse 44 of Daniel 11, hence once they are eliminated as possibilities.

This pretty much only leaves that United States and its English-speaking allies as the only possible naval power that could deter the King of the North at this stage.

Perhaps it may be of some interest to report that a European leader known as the Great Monarch in some Catholic prophecies (King of the North in biblical ones) is claimed to ultimately take over the West (and other places):

Venerable Bartholomew Holzhauser (died 1658): There will rise a valiant monarch…His dominion will extend from the East to the West. (Connor, Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, pp.35-36)

Saint Cataldus of Tarentino (c. 500): The Great Monarch will be in war till he is forty years of age….he will assemble great armies and expel tyrants from his empire. He will conquer England and other island empires (Connor, p.30).

Priest Gobbi (November 15, 1990): Mary spoke about the great trial coming to the United States and for all humanity.  The Blessed Mother specifically mentions the United States will know the hour of weakness and of poverty as well as “the hour of suffering and defeat”Sins of impurity have become ever more widespread, and immorality has spread like a sea which has submerged all things. Homosexuality, a sin of impurity which is against nature, has been justified; recourse to the means of preventing life have become commonplace, while abortions,–these killings of innocent children–have spread and are performed in all areas of your homeland. The moment of divine justice and of great mercy has now arrived. You will know the hour of weakness and poverty; the hour of suffering and defeat; the purifying hour of the great chastisement…(Flynn, Ted and Maureen. The Thunder of Justice. MaxKol Communications, Inc. Sterling (VA), 1993, pp. 341,342).

Werdin d’ Otrante (13th century): The Great Monarch and the Great Pope will precede Antichrist…The capital of the world will fall. (Connor, p. 33).

The “capital of the world” in a sense is the United States. Hence, certain non-biblical prophecies seem to indicate the destruction of the Anglo-Western peoples (for more on some of them, please see Catholic Prophecies: Do They Mirror, Highlight, or Contradict Biblical Prophecies?; see also Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Apparitions).

The Bible itself tells of the end-time period of trouble for those descended from Jacob:

7 Alas! For that day is great,
So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
But he shall be saved out of it.

8 ‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’
Says the Lord of hosts,
‘That I will break his yoke from your neck,
And will burst your bonds;
Foreigners shall no more enslave them. (Jeremiah 30:7-8)

Notice that before they are saved out of it, the descendants of Jacob will be enslaved by foreigners (see also Will the Anglo-Nations be Divided and Have People Taken as Slaves?)

This is the Great Tribulation that Jesus referred to in Matthew 24:21. It begins shortly after the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel (11:31) happens according to Jesus (Matthew 24:15).

It seems to begin with the following from the Book of Daniel (the “he” is the King of the North):

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain (Daniel 11:39).

Who has the strongest fortresses?

The strongest fortresses in the world belong to the USA and to a much lessor extent, its English-speaking allies (for a more detailed explanation of why the USA and its Anglo-allies are involved, as well as the dividing of their lands, please see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel). Isaiah warns that “The fortress also will cease from Ephraim” (Isaiah 17:3)–but unlike Manasseh, Ephraim simply does not have the strongest fortresses.

This passage about the strongest fortresses in Daniel 11:39 cannot be referring to the Europeans as they support the King of the North, nor can it be referring to the Russians, Chinese, or other Asians as they do not get involved until verse 44 of Daniel 11.

People who have faith that the USA will continue and get through all of this should ask themselves,  “Why?”

The USA is west of Jerusalem, in a major sense is currently the “King of the West”, and apparently is the Western naval power of Daniel 11:30–yet no King of the West seems to exist after the King of the North eliminates those with the strongest fortresses (Daniel 11:39). Yet, there still are end-time kings of the North (Daniel 11:40), South (Daniel 11:40), and East (Revelation 16:12).

Is the Leader of the West Mentioned in Islamic Prophecy?

While I rely on biblical prophecy, it may be of interest to note that a leader of the West is mentioned in Islamic prophecy.

There is an old Shiite prophecy about “the new leader of the West” that seems to fit Barack Hussein Obama personally. Notice what Forbes’ writer Amir Taheri reported:

Is Barack Obama the “promised warrior” coming to help the Hidden Imam of Shiite Muslims conquer the world?

…a pro-government Web site published a Hadith (or tradition) from a Shiite text of the 17th century. The tradition comes from Bahar al-Anvar (meaning Oceans of Light) by Mullah Majlisi, a magnum opus in 132 volumes and the basis of modern Shiite Islam.

According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (the prophet’s cousin and son-in-law) prophesied that at the End of Times and just before the return of the Mahdi, the Ultimate Saviour, a “tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West.” Commanding “the strongest army on earth,” the new ruler in the West will carry “a clear sign” from the third imam, whose name was Hussein Ibn Ali. The tradition concludes: “Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us.”

In a curious coincidence Obama’s first and second names–Barack Hussein–mean “the blessing of Hussein” in Arabic and Persian. His family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, which means “he is with us,” the magic formula in Majlisi’s tradition (for more details, please see Barack Obama in Islamic Prophecy?).

Since we are near the end of times and Barack Hussein Obama is considered to be black and he now the “ruler in the West” and he now leads the” strongest army on earth”, it makes sense that a lot of Shiite Muslims apparently believe that he may fit that Islamic prophecy. And of course, that prophecy suggests that the West as we know it will be eliminated while he is in office as supposedly he will help the Hidden Muslim Imam conquer the world.

Some Shiites seem to believe that their writings have Barack Hussein Obama as the leader of the West in prophecy (others have challenged the integrity of Amir Taheri’s writings). (More on Barack Obama can be found in the article Prophecies of Barack Obama?)

The USA and, currently to a lessor degree, its Anglo-allies are the King of the West. They will not exist as they now do when Jesus returns because they will have been taken over years prior to then–that may be why the Bible does not use the term “king of the west”. But ultimately most of those that survive from the Anglo-lands will repent and turn to God.

Please do not wait until then. The time to repent is now.
